How incredible are they?! I've been revisiting all of the albums and they have yet to make a less than "AMAZING" album. Not TOO familiar with Devotion and Beach House but GODDAMNIT everything since Teen Dream has been MIND-BLOWING. I'm not even attempting to rank the last 5 albums because it's impossible. Thank You Lucky Stars is probably my least favourite if I'm being honest but that's what you get when you drop 2 incredible albums within less than 2 months!

Should we just do a discography rate omg but I feel it wouldn't get enough votes sad.gif

Where should I start?

They got me around 2010 with 'Teen Dream'. So I'd say that or 'Bloom'.

Teen Dream definitely!!

Beach House are one of those bands where they could keep making the same album over and over and I'd probably love every single one. Although admittedly I didn't get into 7 as deeply as all the others but they're one of like 3 bands from the 2000s who continue to be consistent with everything they release. They really never fell off imo.

I do sort of feel they peaked at Teen Dream and then each album after is weaker than the previous but the Teen Dream - Bloom - Depression Cherry trio is exceptional.

I'd go for a top 5 of:

Norway
Myth
Zebra
Irene
Levitation

Why do we not seem to have a thread for their new material? I'm absolutely loving the new double album, it usually takes me a while to love their work but this has been so instant for me

The new album is fantastic dreamy stuff all the way through.

I'm going back to listen to 'Bloom' in full now (and maybe their other albums) as 'Myth' has stuck with me really well over the years but that was about the only song I ever heard from them (and 'Wild' a few times, but that wasn't quite as beautiful).

This album is not one of my favourites but it's very good nonetheless. I'll be getting back to it later to see if anything can grow on me.

The Teen Dream through 7 album sequence was SO strong that I don't really care if they don't exactly blow my socks off with this.

I am a newbie to Beach House (apart from a couple of their older songs that were sent to BJSC) so cannot comment on how it compares to their other albums but I'm really enjoying the new album. A tossup between 'Superstar' and 'Masquerade' for my fave track, then I think 'Hurts To Love', 'Only You Know' and 'New Romance' would round out my top 5.

My rankings of each of the discs:

Superstar > Once Twice Melody > Pink Funeral > Through Me
New Romance > Over And Over > Runaway > ESP
Masquerade > Only You Know > Illusion Of Forever > Sunset > Another Go Around
Hurts To Love > The Bells > Modern Love Stories > Many Nights > Finale

So I have at least one track from each disc in my overall top 5, very pleasingly well paced x I think this is a surprisingly diverse sounding album as well, dream pop seems like a genre that would be difficult to make an 18 track album of that doesn't get samey but I think they pull it off really well here, there are only a couple of tracks here that come across as a bit indistinct (looking at 'ESP' and 'Finale', both nice but not particularly memorable, 16 out of 18 isn't bad though).

'The Bells' lowkey sounds like it could be a Christmas song, I'm not sure if they were going for that but I'm not mad about it laugh.gif

How was it? ohmy.gif they've been a revelation for me this year (I did end up listening to the album in full since I last posted and it's definitely one of my favourites of 2022 so far, just magical)

So magical. The lighting and staging was simple but impeccable, the song choices (except Take Care was not on the list but they did it earlier in the tour :'( ) were great - switching between the last album and some classics, they were sweethearts stopping the show for someone in the crowd who fainted. I lost my shit when they played 'PPP' but I knew they would do it from the earlier setlists I googled. Overall the energy in the room was a bit meh especially during the Once Twice Melody songs, lots of people who probably only knew 1-2 of their songs and didn't care much about the rest but who gives a shit, I still LIVED.
