Anything about Nicola that doesn't need its own thread!
HA. It should really have been the second single.
Reform, make it happen. </3
:lol <3 Nicola.
I need a new solo album from her this year, can't cope.
I'm not sure even 'On The Metro' would have done anything as the second single, to me it seems there was initial comeback hype which quickly faded regardless.
Such an epic track though!
Something New probably would have got to #1 if it wasn't up against Olly, I reckon whatever they released after wouldn't have been a huge hit but if On The Metro was released over Beautiful they could have at least got a Top 10/20 single from it.
If they did a proper release for On The Metro, rather than the half-arsed release they gave Beautiful Cause You Love Me, it would EASILY have been a hit IMO.
Cheryl wedding: Girls Aloud star Nicola Roberts defends whirlwind marriage
She better release her new album next year!
a new album sounds lush. Nicola is without a doubt my fave of the girls after Cheryl ❤❤
Your signature would also have made a suitable answer for that Jay.
Happy 29th birthday to Nicola!
I still havent forgiven her for unfollowing Nadine.
After finishing a slightly overlong blog post for the 12th anniversary (scheduled to appear at 11:30, which seemed appropriate - EDIT: up here http://musicinyourroom.blogspot.com/2014/11/girls-aloud-twelve.html ) having worked on it for hours it, it's kinda spooky to return from the toilet break just to see a brand new tweet from Nicola, especially if you read an earlier post: http://musicinyourroom.blogspot.com/2014/10/the-coolest-popstar-on-earth.html
Nicola is apparently in talks with Simon Cowell to be a BGT judge?! Odd choice imo but I think she'd be interesting to see as a judge!
Yes please *.* If only to give GA some more relevance! Alesha out then?
She would be an interesting signing!
Needing that second album, Nicola.
There's a news story I never thought I'd read! I mean it must've come from somewhere and as far as I can tell there's been no denial from Nic herself so that leads me to believe there has been a discussion of sorts. Or it could be complete BS.
I'd be more surprised if there was in change in line-up at all when the show continues to go from strength to strength with the current panel. Maybe someone doesn't want to stay on? It is this time of year the contracts are finalised, I remember the Alesha announcement being in early January as the judges auditions are not long after.
Amanda Holden said that everyone will be back in an interview in October but that they were waiting on contracts. So still time if Alesha has pulled out. Not that anything would respark any interest from myself in this show anyway, I don't understand how it's the nation's most-viewed programme.
Oh I love Amanda/Alesha/David on BGT
Can Nicola replace Simon?
Oh Nicola
Noooooo, I've really got into Cinderella's Eye's over the last few weeks and would have loved a follow up
I suppose a song 'Written by Nicola Roberts and performed by Little Mix' is gonna get played on Radio 1 and bring in the ROYALTIES compared to a song 'Written and performed by Nicola Roberts'.
I just used Little Mix as an example.
Heartbroken.
I sort of accepted years ago that the likelihood of ever getting a second album from her is slim to none.
The last of the Girls has left her twenties behind today (doesn't look like she has though )
In case she's reading this (and why wouldn't she?): happy birthday, Ms Roberts!
Happy birthday Nicola! Gosh, all in their 30s now. In two and a half years I'll be joining them D:
Happy birthday Nicola! Gosh it feels strange that they're all in their 30s now
The way they act with each other though you'd think they were 17.
!
She looked incredible!
ALBUM NUMBER 2 PLEASE.
Track on Tinashe's new mixtape 'Nightride' that was co-written by Nicola and you can hear her vocals in the background of the chorus.
'Ghetto Boy' is possibly my favourite on the whole mixtape so come through Nicola.
I have just got round to watching 'High Street Hijabis' and 'New York Hijabis', the two documentaries Nicola did with modest fashion YouTube vlogger Nabiilabee for Radio 1. Both are on BBC iPlayer for the next year and I would highly recommend both to watch. Really insightful viewing.

What do we think?
The two witches reunited last night for the Pride of Britain Awards but I was most surprised to see Nicola posing for a selfie with Jeremy Corbyn!
I was at a party with Nicola the other day & bothered her for a bit. NR2 does exist. Its different from anything she’s done before. Its not urban. It doesn’t sound like ‘gladiator’ She loves ‘Ghetto Boy’. I joked about campaigning to get ‘on the metro’ in the charts 2022 and she said they fought for it to be a single but Brian wouldn’t let them... and we both toasted to 10 years of Tangled Up. There was more but I canny remember...
OH we loled over the ‘Team Ginge’ campaign also
Cool story bro. Please refrain from telling it again. 🙃
I assume "they fought for it to be a single but Brian wouldn’t let them" is in regards to deciding what was chosen as the first single? Kimberley also mentioned in her autobiography that she would have preferred On the Metro over Something New. Although Nadine recently stated that the other girls had wanted Beautiful Cause You Love Me to be first!
Considering that they promoted Beautiful Cause You Love Me (which isn't Xenomania produced) alongside Something New, it doesn't seem like Brian would have had the power to veto On the Metro being released afterwards. I wish they had, it would have been a fantastic single to bow out on! Even though it wasn't Xenomania, it was still very them and would have sat comfortably in their singles discography. Sigh!
Also, Nicola gushed over BCYLM when it was announced.
Nicola performs a stripped back version of P!nk's What About Us at Madison Square Garden. No clue what she was doing there and it also seems to me that there was no audience..? Randomly beautiful rendition.

Nicola is in the news today after she has (finally) received an apology from the Crown Prosecution Service for their failing to prosecute her ex-boyfriend who stalked her. The full story from the BBC:
Singing in front of an audience again, it seems:
"Nicola Roberts
9th - 10th May 2019
In association with GF Entertainment
We are thrilled to announce the lovely Nicola Roberts will be performing a medley of Girls Aloud hits, her catchy solo material and classic covers that have inspired her incredible career"

Would have preferred a proper venue without waiters running around, bar noises and the smell of fish, but she was magnificent.
Set:
Forrest Gump (Frank Ocean song)
Fish Out Of Water
I Say A Prayer For You
I
Untouchable
Memory Of You
Sticks + Stones
(song unknown to me)
Whole Lotta History (with the middle 8 from Call The Shots as intro)
she,s makin cleas asda tour seem like a smash hit success
I don't mind anyone's opinion, but it's probably worth remembering that this set is not meant to be a "tour setlist", it's very much constructed (and all songs are reworked) with a fully seated venue (well, a restaurant) in mind, focusing on more emotional songs. Uptempo songs would be totally out of place, and the only appropriate thing about a song like Take a Bite in this setting would be its title.
By popular demand, here are some additional details after the second show (and having slept on it more than once):
- the song I didn't know (well the second song, I didn't know the Frank Ocean one either, I just found it more easily) turned out to be God Is a Woman, originally by Ariana Grande. It was suggested by, and on the first night performed with Joe Ross, former Girls Aloud tour guitarist and musical director
- the crowd was much louder on Friday
- Kimberley was in attendance for the second show
So she's still not performing new music... it's so odd.. she's been teasing NR2 since 2013, when I met her last year she said it was done and coming and yet... here we are... nothing. What a bizarre setlist.
Anyone else hearing Nicola's voice in Queen Bee on The Masked Singer?
New interview with Nicola in The Guardian today, to promote her upcoming West End debut in 'City of Angels', which opens in March: https://www.theguardian.com/music/2020/jan/06/nicola-roberts-my-therapist-said-i-was-one-of-the-most-resilient-people-shed-ever-met
How awful about her stalker ordeal, poor lamb. Glad she's OK and settled now. She's also working with Fred Ball who she worked with a lot on 'Cinderella's Eyes' but hasn't said anything concrete about a new album.
It’s a 1000% Nicola behind the Queen Bee Mask on the Masked Singer...
I definitely heard Nicolas voice tonight.
I was 50/50 last week but within about ten seconds of tonight’s performance I knew it was her.
And the clues too. The drum referencing her debut solo track! And another clue matched to her wanting to pass a sunbed law.
You can literally hear her accent in the VOs. It's her.
Just had a quick sconce on ITV Player at lunch. It's her alright, I recognise her voice anywhere! Hopefully this will push her towards her second album if she does well on this.
Bee is so winning The Masked Singer UK.
It’s definitely Nicola as well! Cheryl even said in her TV Mag interview that she thinks it’s her (but then said Nicolas denied it to her but it was just to bluff readers) we know it’s her.
SHE WON! (Not revealed yet - but it's basically confirmed as her now lmao)
Amazing!!!!!!
I was just saying in The Masked Singer thread that I think this was such a good show for Nicola to do. It’s showcased her voice to the GP in a way what no other show could do and I’d be surprised if we didn’t get another album from her this year. She’s gonna get some deals after this for sure whether it’s theatre or a new solo album being announced.
I’m thrilled that she won though. Most consistent performer for sure!
Cinderella’s Eyes the album is up to #24 on UK iTunes!
Great to see her debut pick up a few extra sales now.
Just saw her on This Morning and she said she’d love to do something with Girls Aloud for the fans for the 20th anniversary in 2022! It just depends on where everyone is at when the time comes around. Here’s hoping!
I could see them doing another tour like the ten tour but this time around with no new material being promoted.
I’m the mean time though another solo album from Nicola pls. If she struck while the iron is hot fresh off the back of her Masked Singer win she could be onto a winner. She will have heaps of material I’d imagine as she is a writer and I honestly think it could be a genuine success on the albums chart as it’s really opened peoples eyes and shown what GA stans have known for years. She could easily get a top ten album I’d say tbh.
I think Sarah Harding is going to be the biggest stumbling block for a reunion as she hadn't been in the public eye for years now. I feel she isn't comfortable with fame and needs normality in her life to function well. The last reunion she clearly wasnt well at all and I cant see them putting her through that again. I know their 20 years anniversary is almost 3 years away and anything could happen but I just cant see it happening with Sarah.
I'd love if Nicola even dropped a covers EP, the demand is there.
I think Sarah would do it as she also enjoys some of the fame and maybe if they did unite they would be uniting with their differences sorted which would help Sarah greatly. Steps had big issues within the band and they managed to sort it and had a successful comeback and really seem to genuinely get on now. Take That were another one who sorted the big issues and look at them now so there is hope for the girls. Its good that at various points various members are in the public eye.
Returning to the Masked Singer as a guest panellist in the FINAL, airing 13th February!
Nicola Roberts has tearfully revealed how she feels she's "lost a bit of herself" in the wake of Sarah Harding's death.
Former Girls Aloud star Nicola, 36, reveals she viewed her fellow former bandmate Sarah as a sister and is still grappling with the grief of losing her.
Sarah was just 39 when she passed away following her battle with breast cancer in September.
Six months on from Sarah's sad passing, Nicola has opened up on how she is still dealing with her grief on Laura Whitmore's podcast Hear Her Voice.
As Laura, 36, asked how Nicola was, she tearfully said: "I’m gonna cry."
Nicola later added how close she was with Sarah and her fellow bandmates Cheryl, Kimberley Walsh and Nadine Coyle.
"Even as sisters through birth, you don’t truly experience..." She said through tears. "I mean listen, like we went to the moon together. So… and somebody becomes such an extension of who you are.
"To then not have that person there… it’s just like you’ve lost a bit of yourself. It’s really s**t."
And when asked if she was regularly in touch with the other women from the band Nicola said: "Yeah, absolutely, 100 per cent. I mean, my God, there’s so much to say and unpack."
Nicola also gave a candid insight on how she deals with her grief alongside the remaining three band members as she explained: "Everybody deals with loss differently.
"I’m very much somebody who needs to process stuff by myself so I will just sort of go quiet and process it as much as I can alone. Some people might say that’s really unhealthy and some people need to just talk and talk and talk it out.
"I’m not one of them people because, it’s hard as well because, like I said earlier, only the other four know.
"So you’re talking to people who weren’t there. And they might ask a question which really infuriates you at the time because you think how can you not understand that? What perspective has that even come from?
"So I think it’s best to – unless I’m talking to the four girls, sorry, unless I’m talking to the other three girls – I just feel like I don’t need to talk about it to anyone else because they don’t get it."

The podcast can be heard here, her interview begins at 23m05s: https://open.spotify.com/episode/5aMjR4tDEHcBuCLBRmBlcP?si=11d3fef20b624f87
When she realised she'd said four girls, and then corrected herself... that was heartbreaking
The correction from 4 to 3 is a proper gut punch moment
Oh gosh the bit about 4 girls then correcting herself was awful to read that must be so hard for her too! 😓
Something is better than nothing but I would welcome her performing over a DJ set.
I'll be in Soho for Pride next weekend, so I'll pop along and see what it's all about!
I plucked up the courage to listen to Nicola's interview she did on Laura Whitmore's podcast a few months ago today. Wow, I'm a mess
I can only really speak for myself but I've found myself dipping in and out of listening to both Girls Aloud and also their solo projects - Nicola this week especially with the vinyl reissue of Cinderella's Eyes - over the last couple of months.
Maybe it's my way, like many others, of trying to come to terms with what's happened over the last year. But I'm not sure I'll ever be OK with the fact Sarah's not here anymore. In my head she's still here.
When she corrected herself and said "only the other four, sorry three know". That just bought me completely undone.
Now that Sarah's passing is less in the press I sometimes forget she is no longer with us and when I listen to Girls Aloud or something appears online it all comes back how real it is and how sad that such a beautiful young woman is longer with us.
Nicola has deffo entered this really weird era where she's known as a singer... yet doesn't really have any music to back up for it (except the 2011 album ofc). I'd say she deffo has a indie-pop career (like Rina ) in her but doesn't seem to release anything.
She's deffo got at least 2(?) unreleased albums.
Id like to believe she will eventually release a second album.
I can't see it, if she didn't capitalise on how the Masked Singer raised her profile and the fact it's been 11 years now.
Releasing after the Masked Singer would have been a good time for Nicola to release and there has been no hint of anything coming any time soon.
I find it a bit weird that she has never released anything else after how she claimed to be so passionate about music and performing and recording etc... I mean even Victoria Beckham signed to a second label and released a single with an intended second album to follow.
If Jo from S Club can release a 2nd album, NR can!
It may be related to the financial issues that she faced? Release the album would be an investment and guess she wouldn’t have much benefit.
she had an album ready to go in 2014 and around 2017(ish).
i just find it so weird she keeps getting all these music gigs, yet doesn't release music - the masked singer, queens jubilee, suprise guests at Mighty Hoopla, Sink the Pink? The woman's only ever done one proper show of her own at G-A-Y Heaven in 2011.
You would question how much income Nicola would have coming through as she is not hugely active.
Nicola's dancing on the Christmas special of Strictly Come Dancing!
This will be airing today at 5:10pm!
He didn't lie!!!
Hopefully it does actually happen.
No lies present
Agree, truth has been spoken.
Great new podcast that Nicola has appeared on that's out today that's worth a listen. About half an hour long but really insightful, especially with what she says about people passing away which really resonated.

MUST. HEAR. THEIR. VERSION. NOW!
Would love to have seen her facial reaction when she heard it in a shop
So Brian didn't even bother to tell them that he had decided to give it to Kylie?
With regards to 'Made of Glass', there were rumours at the time that Rachel Stevens had recorded it before Kylie's version leaked around Xmas 2004 and then it appeared as a B-side on the single. Although, doubt has since been cast over whether Rachel's version actually does exist.
This is a really interesting nugget of pop info, especially because at the time I remember loads of people were saying GYU "sounds like a Girls Aloud song" (although it's little wonder!)
Wow I bet the GA version slaps!
I would have liked to see how a Girls Aloud version would sound even though i do genuinely love Kylies verison.
Did know you had. Though yeah, li can see them singing it.
That picture is everything. Women in music supporting women in music ❤️
So incredible! The supergroup crossover we all need! I left a comment on this post and suggested about them bringing out some of these ladies on the tour as surprise guests on select nights. Maybe to sing one of their own songs from their bands? JLS did something similar on their most recent tour and had like Max George from The Wanted pop out and do "Glad You Came" and Olly Murs do "Heart Skips A Beat".
Love the supergroup photos
Love this!
