I'm starting new thread with some bad news

QUOTE
Robert Kubica injures leg in fall

Robert Kubica has injured his leg in a fall near his home, with sources close to the Polish driver suggesting that he has reopened a fracture that he sustained in his rally accident last year.

It is understood that Kubica fell over on ice in Pietrasanta, where he lives, and subsequently complained of pain in the right leg which was broken in his crash. He was driven to the local hospital for checks.

Although there has been no official statement, it is understood that it has been found that Kubica has reopened the fracture in his right tibia.

Kubica's latest injury setback comes on the same day that Ferrari played down talk that it was planning to test the Polish driver later this year once he was fully recovered.

Sources suggested that the injury is likely to delay his recovery by at least three weeks.

"That was not on our plan," said Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali at the annual Wrooom media event.

"For sure Robert Kubica is a great driver that had a very severe injuries and at the moment he is still working very hard to try to go back to his normal living.

"So before any kind of thinking or discussion of whatever could be, we need to wait and see. For sure that kind of injury is taking a long time to recover so I can say we will wait and see if he is going to recover, but at the moment there is nothing in place."

can't believe it how unlucky he is! sad.gif

Just read this! So unlucky sad.gif

I'm really looking forward to this season though, but I hope this Sky deal doesn't affect things too much as I don't have Sky sad.gif

Posted by: Silas 11th January 2012, 06:43 PM

That really sucks.

Posted by: ukchartstatsfan 11th January 2012, 07:27 PM

How unlucky can Robert get.

If he did return to F1 would he still be the same driver as he was? Look at Massa he hasn't been the same driver since he had that crash in Hungary 2009.

People who don't have Sky

We'll at least have extended highlights to every race that Sky are doing and 10 races live on the BBC. But still it's going to be annoying to not find out the result until the highlights comes.

Senna and Maldonado? Dear me, Williams won't be improving anytime soon then! A shame Sutil is such a moron really, he'd surely be a shoo-in.

Yeah I agree with that. Sutil is a pretty talented driver he is just a bit of a tit. Does anyone know what actually went on in that nightclub? Did he just have a fight with someone or summat?

Would be great to see Kubica back in the cockpit but I agree that it will be difficult and unlikely that he comes back as good as he was before. That has got to play on your nerves surely?

Posted by: Silas 18th January 2012, 08:45 AM

Williams are gonna be wasting a Championship winning engine on that? :/

Williams are absolutaly stupid they should of got rid of maldonado got sutil nd kept barricelo for one more season nd then get senna next season

Don't forgot Maldonado still has that sponsorship money to help Williams. I was surprised that Williams kept him.

Edit:
More problems for Hispania Racing. once again they may not get to the grid

Jarno Trulli has been replaced by Vitaly Petrov for Caterham for this season.

Trulli, 37 is without a drive in F1 since Minardi in 1997.

It will be the first time that an Italian driver is not on the grid for the start of a F1 season since 1970.

New season starts in less than 10 hours, will be there prediction game again?

Posted by: Pablo 18th March 2012, 03:24 PM

Button was imperious today, I really hope he wins the title this year. Vettel looked decent too, but was helped with Shumacher going out and the safety car. Will be very interesting to see if the pace of Mercedes and Lotus can keep up and challenge Ferrari for third spot. If Massa does not improve his form soon I imagine he will be gone, he was very very poor today.

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 18th March 2012, 08:12 PM

Massa is truly terrible now. He was never that good anyway, a solid number two that almost got lucky once but since his accident he's been terrible. Last year the only driver you could even possible say was worse than him was Jarno Trulli... Maybe Rubens at a push?

Good race today, I couldn't help but smile at Maldonado though, as harsh as it is! Kimi looks like he'll be able to battle with Alonso and the Mercedes this season. and I really like Ben Edwards on the BBC, the reaction to him was really positive too when I had a quick look at what people were saying.

Posted by: Pablo 18th March 2012, 08:48 PM

Maldonado deserved what he got, since he ran Grosjean off at the very start. Still, its nice to see Williams seemingly competitive again. I am already looking forward to Malaysia. The Sky coverage was good, but the new commentator made a few too many mistakes throughout the race, but it was probably beginner's nerves and all that.

Posted by: Silas 19th March 2012, 09:53 AM

Typical, the minute they take the bloody Renault name out of the team it looks like we might have a fighting chance of having our best season since 05/06. Renault should never have sold their stake in the team.

Posted by: ramseydawson 22nd March 2012, 07:58 PM

Think the race this weekend will be better since grosjean and Schumacher went out early in australia ruining the chances of having someone different in the top 3. So I think we might see a Schumacher, grosjean or Kimi fighting for that 3rd position as well as all the normal contenders.

Posted by: Pablo 25th March 2012, 03:11 PM

After today I will be astounded if Perez isn't in a red car in China. Stunning drive, got the decisions correct bar coming in same lap as Alonso, which if he did he would surely have won the race at a canter, but going on the hard tyres was a great call. His inexperience did show somewhat when he spun behind Alonso at the end. At least he should have plenty of more opportunities to push for victory in the future. I have always tried to defend Massa, but he was frankly embarrassing today. Another lap or 2 on the race and he'd have been lapped.

Unlucky for Jenson, but once again he seemed to have edged Hamilton in terms of race pace, obviously though they were miles apart on the track. Its good to see Red Bull are not going to waltz away this year again, it actually seems like this season could be as unpredictable as 2010.

Posted by: Ryan741 25th March 2012, 03:16 PM

Another incredible grand prix!! I love rain-affected GPs even if it means a red flag stoppage (as long as it gets going again unlike Malaysia 2009) because it always causes chaos when it restarts after today and Canada last year biggrin.gif

Brilliant drives from Alonso and especially Perez! Senna did great too and Force India were the only team with both drivers in the points! cheer.gif

Posted by: Pablo 15th April 2012, 12:41 PM

Well done Nico Rosberg, deserved victory for him this weekend and very pleased he finally managed to get that maiden win. Would have been a more interesting last couple of laps had Button's pitstop not gone awry though, not that today had some of the closest wheel to wheel action I've seen in any race for many years. Schumacher also unlucky, I reckon he was a shoe-in for a podium otherwise.

Posted by: Ryan741 15th April 2012, 12:55 PM

Really happy with Rosberg getting his first win! Loved the massive train there was from 2nd to 12th or so - amazing racing! biggrin.gif

Have just seen this. 2 Force India team members have asked to return to Britain, while the "top brass" at Force India team are in deep discussions with John Yates (An ex-Metropolitan police officer). For him to show up must show that Force India are worried about the security concerns. Furthermore, di Resta and Hulkenberg are both expressing concerns about the race but senior team manage maintaining the team have not withdrawn from the GP.

At the moment, it does seem possible the Force India may withdraw from the GP, and if they do I feel many teams may follow. If something else happens tonight, I think we will wake up to news that the GP will be cancelled tomorrow morning.

Posted by: Silas 19th April 2012, 04:20 PM

I'm in two minds about this. Mainly because the ForceIndia car had a petrol bomb go off near them and they genuinely weren't targeted.

Continuing my indecisive theme I don't really have a team this year. I officially disowned 'Lotus' for completely ditching their ties to former owners Renault and that chassis name is an abomination, so I was considering moving my loyalties to RBRRenault instead but Nico Rosberg really impressed this weekend and I have always liked him as a driver. Its a shame he drives for Merc.

Unconfirmed reports from a motorsports news correspondent from The Times (@easonF1) in Bahrain that a protester has been shot in the eye, and another is unconscious due to the use of tear gas. If this unrest gets closer to Sakhir which it inevitably will, it is quite worrying! ohmy.gif

Posted by: Ryan741 20th April 2012, 04:47 PM

Today, the Force India team chose to pull out of the 2nd practice session in order to be able to leave the track earlier so they can travel back to the hotel in daylight! I respect Force India very much for this and definitely shows the severity of the events that are happening in Bahrain. Bernie who was at the track today is insistent that everyone is safe!

Posted by: Ryan741 21st April 2012, 12:37 PM

....Vettel...... on pole for tomorrow's GP. However, I think the biggest story is that Force India have blatantly not been shown through FP3 or qualifying which is probably due to them skipping FP2 and FOM/Bernie getting revenge. Force India and FOM are top trending on twitter in the UK and even Sky picked up on their absence from TV. Disgraceful from FOM!

Well done to Maldonado on his first win for Williams and Williams first win since Brazil 2004.

Sadly is it was overshadowed by a fire at the Williams garage where a KERS unit from Bruno Senna's car which apprently sparked a fuel fire at the back of the garage.

Pastor Maldonado was given a 10 place grid penalty for this to Sergio Perez during third practice in Monaco.

Michael Schumacher fastest in qualifying but he has to start 6th after the incident with Senna in Barcelona.

Here's the grid for tomorrow's race:
1st Webber Red Bull
2nd Rosberg Mercedes
3rd Hamilton McLaren
4th Grosjean Lotus
5th Alonso Ferrari
6th Schumacher Mercedes * Five-place grid penalty
7th Massa Ferrari
8th Raikkonen Lotus
9th Vettel Red Bull
10th Hulkenburg Force India
11th Kobayashi Sauber
12th Button McLaren
13th Senna Williams
14th Di Resta Force India
15th Ricciardo Toro Rosso
16th Vergne Toro Rosso

What are people's prospects for tomorrow's race?

Posted by: ukcsf 10th June 2012, 07:39 PM

7 different winners in the first seven races.

Lewis Hamilton wins the Canadian Grand Prix for the 3rd time for McLaren. After he passed Alonso with six laps remaining. Alonso went from 1st to 5th in the last six laps.

Romain Grosjean for Lotus-Renault was second, Sergio Perez for Sauber was 3rd.

What a season!

Yes that's right 2 points in the last four races. That came with a 9th in Spain. And late retirements in Bahrain. Monaco due to a collison with Kovalainen. Where was Button in the race though.

Fantastic race, was really pleased to see Vettel and Hamilton DNF. Felt really sorry for Grosjean, he's been exciting on his comeback, and was hoping for 8 different winners. Still, I thought the podium was fantastic to see, a throwback to the previous era shown above. Schumi wub.gif

Europe was a fantastic race and the best race ever that Valencia has had. As the previous four grand prixs there apart from Webber's crash in 2010 have been quite dull.

Great win for Alonso. Brillant drive from 11th on the grid in win. Great to see Schumacher get a podium. He deserves that after the bad luck he has had this season.

Silverstone next!

Bring it on. F1 2012 as Murray Walker would say is 'FANTASTIC'

Terrible news in the F1 world over the last couple of days.

Yesterday, Marussia reserve/test driver Maria de Villota was involved in a crash during straight-line testing yesterday. She was then fighting for her life in hospital yesterday and today it was unfortunately revealed Maria had lost her right eye.

A positive is that she is now stable and no longer in a life-threatening condition, but thoughts are with Maria and her family after this terrible injury.

Posted by: ukcsf 10th July 2012, 12:21 PM

Mark Webber is staying at Red Bull for 2013 which ends any rumours about him moving to Ferrari. Red Bull look set to keep the same line-up of Vettel and Webber for 2013.

Do people think Massa will stay at Ferrari in 2013?

Posted by: Ryan741 13th July 2012, 11:42 PM

I don't think there is any chance of Massa staying at Ferrari, he's just not performing anything like well enough!

Then again, who would replace him? I think that Perez is still too young for Ferrari to consider, Webber is staying at Red Bull it seems, I doubt Raikkonen would return there alongside Alonso. Rosberg would probably be someone Ferrari will look at, but I can't see Mercedes letting him go.

Maybe they could go for a complete surprise and put Bianchi in the car, he's been doing reasonably well for Force India in the practices and Bianchi is part of Ferrari's driver programme.

It's definitely going to be an interesting "silly season" anyway, with possible changes at Ferrari and McLaren with Hamilton seemingly not 100% committed.

Posted by: Nick F1 22nd July 2012, 01:58 PM

Great race again this season, happy to see Alonso on top, very deserved win. Vettel should have got penalty immediately, not after the race sleep.gif. Very sad coz of Lewis, he would be easily in top 3, and great race for Schumacher, Perez, Kobayashi and Rosberg. Can't wait for Hungary GP!

Posted by: Ryan741 22nd July 2012, 02:10 PM

Yep, it was a great race after an amazing wet qualifying yesterday!! I thought Button was going to get Alonso at one point and he ended up losing out to Vettel. I'm expecting Vettel to get a penalty either to drop him back to 3rd or a time penalty equivalent to a drive through.

Happy that Force India got a couple of points, but it could have been even better when Hulkenberg qualified an incredible 4th! Love it when there is a race on consecutive weekends, bring on Budapest!

Gutted, really don't want Alonso to win the Championship but looks like it's his, Ferrari the most consistent car.

Posted by: djmokoia 8th August 2012, 11:27 AM

yeah the way things are going something terrible would have to happen to the rest of Alonso's season for him not to be crowned champion at the end of this year. As much as I dislike him, I can't fault his talent as a driver and who would have thought he would be in this position by the mid-season break with the way that Ferrari were in pre-season?

I can't see Massa staying, he just hasn't performed since coming back from that accident a couple of seasons back. But who would replace him? Whoever goes there is always going to have to play second fiddle to Alonso, so I can't see any of the top names (who aren't already signed for next year) doing it.

Posted by: ροćk 11th August 2012, 10:51 AM

The lack of dry pace from Ferrari at Hungaroring was quite alarming, however, with only 9 races left and a comfortable lead for Alonso I'd still have him as the favourite going into the second half of the season, given that he's much less likely to make mistakes/have off races than the other protagonists.

Posted by: kenukcsfant2012 25th August 2012, 09:03 AM

No driver replacements mid-season yet. This would be the first time since 2008 that no team has replaced any of their drivers throughout the season. Don't forget also Super Aguri did pull out of F1 after the Spanish Grand Prix due to finanical issues. Who do you think might get replaced?

Posted by: Ryan741 25th August 2012, 04:00 PM

I can't see anyone getting replaced unless HRT decided to play musical chairs again - I can see Clos getting a couple of races at the end. Otherwise I think that'll be it! I prefer it when we keep the same drivers throughout a season! biggrin.gif

Posted by: Ryan741 1st September 2012, 01:50 PM

Very mixed up top 10 today! Should mean a brilliant race tomorrow as races at Spa always are!

Still remember Spa qualifying in 2009, was so so pleased for Fisichella's pole for Force India! One of the biggest shocks in F1 history I think!

Posted by: Silas 1st September 2012, 11:58 PM

I wouldn't say so. Fisi could always wrangle a surprising amount of performance out of a shit car. He was always abysmal at getting any performance out of the Renault though sad.gif After Australia '05 where he won that spectacular race his performance just dived.

He was always pretty good at Spa, save for the year he went backwards into the wall at the top of Eau Rouge. (Though iirc the fastest lap of the race was set by him just before that while it was still part wet.)

No surprise Maldonaldo has had a penalty and been dropped a bit. Kimi is now 3rd which is nice. If Roman can pass him and manage not to get taken out by him at the start we're in for a good race. (If Maldonaldo wants to take out Hamilton again, that's fine by me.)

It was definitely the biggest shock in my time in watching F1 anyway (since about 2002)! Fisi was great at outperforming lower class cars, but despite being with Force India since their creation at the beginning of 2008 neither he or Sutil had managed a single point! Force India just had the perfect low downforce package that only worked at Spa and Monza and no-one realised until that weekend! It may be my love of Force India that makes this stick in my mind, but it was an incredible surprise at the time! I agree it was a shame he didn't succeed completely at Renault, but at least he got a couple of seasons fighting for regular podiums and points!

Yep, it's gonna be a great race I think! Two Saubers in the top 4 now with a McLaren and a Lotus. I wonder if Sauber with their great tyre management could spring a surprise and maybe pull out a 1-stop? It'd be very difficult but I wouldn't put it past them trying with one of their cars!

What a fantastic race! I was slightly terrified after that carnage in the first corner, but I'm glad everyone involved was okay! I was so glad to see the Force Indias 3rd and 4th after that first lap unfolded and extremely happy they both managed to stay in the points especially Hulkenberg with what I think is a career-best 4th place! cheer.gif

Non-stop overtaking and action, and that is why we love Spa! Bring on Monza! biggrin.gif

EDIT: Here's a LQ video of the crash:

Posted by: ροćk 2nd September 2012, 02:36 PM

Can't believe that Raikkonen's managed 4 podiums in the last 5 races ohmy.gif definitely wouldn't rule him out of the championship yet. Today was a huge result for Vettel, Alonso can't cruise and collect with that lead and it's nice to see Massa and Schumacher moving up the table (10th & 11th), hopefully both of them can end the championship in the top 10! (I can see them being 9th & 10th actually, with Perez 11th.)

Posted by: kenukcsfant2012 2nd September 2012, 05:42 PM

Romain Grosjean has received a one-race ban and fined €50,000 following his part in the first corner crash which took out Hamilton, Alonso and Perez and also wrecked Kobayashi's race.

Grosjean misses next week's Italian GP and Lotus have test driver former Virgin racer Jerome D'Ambrosio as an reserve driver. Whether he'll race in Italy or not is down to Lotus. Grosjean is the first driver to receive a race ban since Felipe Massa in 2002 who missed the US Grand Prix following a crash in the Italian GP during his debut season at Sauber. Heinz-Harald Frentzen took his place for that race.

Grosjean really needs to calm down a bit. But not as much as Maldonado who jumped the start and was involved in a collison with Glock. As a result Maldonado will have a 10-place grid penalty for his actions.

Great result for Button. Brillant drive from him.

Caterham were given a €10,000 fine for a unsafe release in the pit lane following the incident with Kovalainen making contact with HRT's Karthikeyan.

So quite an eventful race. Who do you want to take Grosjean's place for the Italian GP? Is Grosjean's ban fair? and also do you think Maldonado will ever calm down?

Posted by: kenukcsfant2012 4th September 2012, 07:45 PM

Lotus have today confirmed that Jerome d'Ambrosio will replace Romain Grosjean for the Italian GP on Sunday.

How do you think d'Ambrosio will do? I think it would asking a lot for him to match the pace of Raikkonen. Possibly might get a points finish.

Posted by: Ryan741 4th September 2012, 08:11 PM

It will definitely be interesting! At times last year he was matching Glock if not beating him in the Marussia, so now we will get to see how good he really is! Obviously, he won't be right at the top of his game as he hasn't had hardly any car time during the GP practices but we'll still get a good idea!

Posted by: Silas 4th September 2012, 09:18 PM

I think the one race ban is absolutely absurd/ridiculous/moronic/unjust etc.

Hamilton should have yielded! It's outrageous that Roman gets a ban given that Maldonado causes at least 9 crashes at each race weekend and gets off ban free! (I admit that throwing Hamilton into the wall on my Birthday gives him some leniency but that ain't limitless)

The ban is completely fair and just, if anything too lenient. There's no way it was Hamilton's fault at all, that's just complete and utter bias coming through there. What's ridiculous is that it's the first race ban since 1994. There's no way it's the worst thing that anyone has done in the last 18 years and some of the things other drivers have done should certainly have warranted it, Maldonado certainly, Schumacher and Hamilton too in recent seasons.

There's a good article on it here: http://willthef1journo.wordpress.com/2012/09/03/spa-stewards-standards-and-safety/

Posted by: kenukcsfant2012 5th September 2012, 07:01 PM

Following from the article from above:

Here is the Conor Daly GP3 crash where Daly received a ten-place grid penalty in the next race at Monte Carlo this year. When Russia's Dmitry Suranovich didn't even allow him to overtake when he had no rear wing. This is the kind of drivers we want in F1? Awful crash from Daly. What was Suranovich doing?

And in Race 2 a scary-looking flip right at the start:

Here also was Robert Cregan's GP3 crash in Spa

Any other driving standards from GP2 and GP3 this year that have had you think why are they allowed to race?

offtopic.gif
But well done to former Jordan, Minardi, Lotus and Williams driver Alex Zanardi who won gold today at the H4 Handbike Time Trial at the Paralympics. What a day for him! Fantastic to see him win a gold medal after the scary-looking 2001 crash where he lost both of his legs.

So we move to Italy at Monza for the Grand Prix this weekend where news is about:

News:
Where Lewis Hamilton will be in 2013? Eddie Jordan said that Hamilton had signed a deal with Mercedes for 2013 possibly replacing Schumacher however Mercedes and Hamilton's representives have denied this rumour. Where do you think Hamilton will drive for? McLaren or another team. Schumacher although has again denied any talk of retirement.

Pastor Maldonado has said that he needs to change his driving style. I'm glad that he has admitted that needs to curb his aggressive driving. Hopefully he'll be back in the points soon. Still hasn't scored a point since winning the Spanish Grand Prix back in May. He has had 7 penalties for driving infridgements in 12 races.

Kobayashi thinks that Romain Grosjean got away lightly with a one-race driving ban and believes that he should have banned for more than one race. Interesting quote from Kobayashi about Maldonado and Grosjean

Why do these guys want to finish in Turn One, or take so much risk in the beginning?

Good win for Vettel in Singapore after Hamilton retired from the race due to a box of neutals. Button second and Alonso third. Alonso still with that advantage following consistently being in the points.

Edit:
Vettel and Button have been summoned to see the stewards following the incident at the safety car period where Button nearly made contact with Vettel. When Vettel swerved and braked when warming his tyres up. We'll see what happens here.

Posted by: Ryan741 23rd September 2012, 04:21 PM

At the beginning of the race I could tell it was building up to be an amazing one and then from the Karthikeyan crash and the first safety car it was a fantastic race! So happy for Di Resta with a career-best 4th place finish! cheer.gif

Posted by: Nick F1 23rd September 2012, 05:24 PM

That was for me most boring race this season, nor those crashes didn't been that excited laugh.gif

So sad coz of Lewis this is his 4th DNF sad.gif

Lewis to Mercedes. Perez to McLaren

Posted by: euro music 28th September 2012, 10:49 AM

Bad move Lewis - what have Mercedes achieved on track - one win in 3 years.

Who do you think will take the now vacant Souber seat. I think it will be Guttierez as he's currently their reserve driver. I then think British GP2 driver James Collado should then become their reserve driver.
I would have thought about Max Chilton but he's now Marrussia's reserve driver.

What happens to Schumacher now - permanent retirement hopefully w00t.gif

Posted by: kenukcsfant2012 28th September 2012, 07:27 PM

How do people think Lewis will do at Mercedes and also Perez at Sauber. I was surprised about Perez joining McLaren as it looked like he might replace Massa at Ferrari. But I'm glad Perez has got a top drive now at McLaren. Hopefully he and Jenson will equal rights to race against each other. More money for Lewis then joining Mercedes. Guess he'll be first driver and Rosberg as second driver.

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 28th September 2012, 07:33 PM

Perez moving to McClaren probably indicates one more season for Massa before Vettel joins when his contract is up.

I'd quite like Heikki to move up the field a bit.

Button has a five-place grid penalty in Japan due to a gearbox change.

Live on Sky Sports F1 on Sunday. Just an idea for people who like to watch the BBC highlights. Maybe it could be an idea to put any results of race/qualifying as spoiler tags until after the BBC highlights have been shown. What do you think?

Posted by: kenukcsfant2012 7th October 2012, 05:31 PM

Vettel becomes the first driver in 2012 to win back to back races by winning in Japan which takes him to 4 points behind leader Alonso. After Alonso retired on the first lap due to a puncture caused by Kimi Raikkonen. Mark Webber had to fight back from last place to 9th place from being hit by the first corner crash man, Romain Grosjean. For the 8th time this season, Grosjean has being involved in a first lap incident. What now for Romain? Was a 10 second stop go penalty enough for him? Clearly that one-race ban wasn't enough in my opinion. Surely after that one-race ban you would have thought that Romain would have learned his lesson but clearly he hasn't.

Fantastic podium for Felipe Massa in second place for Ferrari which should secure his drive for next season. Massa's first podium since the 2010 Korean GP. Also delight for Japanese fans as local hero Kamui Kobayashi scored his first ever podium in F1 with a third place and managing to hold off McLaren's Jenson Button.

What did people think of the race?

Korea next weekend live on BBC and Sky Sports F1

Skip to 04:23 for Mark Webber's interview and hear him call Grosjean a 'first-lap nutcase'

Stewards decision regarding Vettel's qualifying stoppage in Abu Dhabi today expected within 15 minutes. Vettel, Horner and the Renault mechanics have been back and forth to the stewards at least a couple of times this afternoon, but we still aren't sure whether this suspected fuel issue is the same as Hamilton's 'issue' in Spain (which got him demoted to the back of the grid) or some other technical fault.

The decision either way will have a massive effect on who will win this year's championship! ohmy.gif

Posted by: Nick F1 3rd November 2012, 06:57 PM

Vettel is starting last tmrrw! Good news for championship!!

Posted by: Ryan741 3rd November 2012, 06:58 PM

It has been confirmed that Vettel will start from the back of the grid for tomorrow's race due to not having the amount of fuel required to take the required sample at the end of qualifying. This could be a decision that could not only change the championship, but also change F1 history as it could prevent Vettel from becoming only the 3rd person to win 3 consecutive championships! ohmy.gif

This is going to be VERY interesting!

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 3rd November 2012, 07:03 PM

At least it's got interesting again. Been really boring lately. At least last year Vettel may have stormed the championship the races were still often decent.

Posted by: kenukcsfant2012 3rd November 2012, 07:08 PM

What a interesting race this makes now. Following Vettel being relegated to the back of the grid. Hamilton had the same thing happen to him in Spain back in May. Golden chance for Alonso to make up ground in the championship providing he doesn't get in a first-lap accident.

Posted by: Nick F1 3rd November 2012, 07:37 PM

Still rooting for Lewis win in championship, if not he then Alonso! This Vettel's penalty is like gold for Alonso!

Posted by: Ryan741 4th November 2012, 06:16 PM

Absolutely fantastic race, possibly the best of the season! Glad that everyone who was involved in the crashes is ok! Just 10 points between Alonso and Vettel now, but it could have been a lot worse for Vettel!

Big well done to Raikkonen, so glad he's finally got a win this season and also well done to di Resta who managed points despite the first lap collisions!

Posted by: lxix 13th November 2012, 08:40 AM

2 races left, who's everyone hoping to win? & who do you think deserves the title?

Posted by: #Insanity 13th November 2012, 10:23 AM

ALONSO.

Posted by: ροćk 13th November 2012, 01:21 PM

Definitely still backing Alonso, although it's seeming quite unlikely, which is a shame given that he had a pretty huge lead a few races back!

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 13th November 2012, 06:47 PM

Vettel all the way for me. I couldn't cope with the amount of arse-licking for Fernando I'd see if he won the championship.

I hope Alonso wins the title for the very same reason. laugh.gif

The Vettel glorification over here is getting unbearable and reaching Schumacher levels very quickly. sick2.gif

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 14th November 2012, 06:34 PM

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a particular fan of Vettel. I'd much much rather it be Kimi Raikkonen winning the championship, or failing that Webber and then either of the two Brits. I just think Alonso is so utterly overrated, and the fact that he had the worst driver in Formula 1 as team-mate for 18 months has gone even further for people to prove how amazing he is. Saying he's massively outperformed the cars abilities or that he's challenging in an inferior car is, as far as I'm concerned, utter rubbish.

Posted by: Silas 14th November 2012, 07:27 PM

Alonso has been great in inferior cars, but his personality has been steadily decreasing since he was closing in on his first world championship win.

I'd rather Kimi won personally, failing that I'm happy with a Vettel win as it's still a Renault powered win. As long as it ISN'T either of the brits.

Posted by: kenukcsfant2012 14th November 2012, 07:58 PM

Kimi Raikkonen can no longer mathmatically win the World Championship as he is 57 points behind Vettel with 50 points avaliable in the last 2 races.

Looking forward to the return of USA in the F1 calendar in Austin, Texas on Sunday. Let's hope that is a good race.

Posted by: Silas 14th November 2012, 08:20 PM

I do think that the way your phrased it made it sound like there was still a chance, so I guess that Ken took it the same way.

I do agree though, I would have preferred Kimi to win - but I'm not really too bothered out of Vettel and Alonso! I just hope it goes down to the last race as anything could happen in Brazil, just like with Hamilton and Massa!

Posted by: kenukcsfant2012 16th November 2012, 07:44 PM

I agree I would have liked Raikkonen to win the world championship sadly he can't. But he pushed the Lotus to its limits this season. He would have still had a chance had he got from 2nd to 12th in the final few laps in China. Hopefully he'll challenge for the title next year. Shame that people who don't have Sky Sports F1 have to wait until 10:30pm to watch the race highlights.

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 17th November 2012, 08:04 PM

Vettel qualifies on pole with Alonso starting 8th (qualified 9th, Grosjean penalty). Only the second time this season he's been outqualified by Massa. Oh dear. Didn't watch it so not sure why so low? Cocked up? Pressure got to him?

Posted by: Silas 17th November 2012, 08:08 PM

He couldn't seem to get heat into his tyres. Regularly fluffed up the last couple of corners scrubbing his time. There was some form of incident with Schumacher in P2 that left him displeased but I didn't see.

Posted by: Silas 17th November 2012, 08:16 PM

At least Grosjean got a penalty for a gearbox change this time.

Yeah, Schumacher was going slow and blocked him at one corner during Alonso's flying lap.

Alonso's got work to do tomorrow to take this championship to the final race, I hope he can do well enough to do so!

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 18th November 2012, 05:50 PM

Massa has taken a gearbox change to push Alonso up a place on the grid and on to the clean side of the track.

Exceptional race, exceptional season, the best outcome! biggrin.gif

Posted by: Ryan741 25th November 2012, 07:33 PM

One of the best races I have ever seen, and must have been one of the best races of all-time!!

Congratulations to Vettel on his championship and to everyone who helped to make this such a fantastic season!

Also a quick mention to Hulkenberg who did so well and possibly could have got a podium if not for the undeserved drive-through. Glad he still got 5th place and that Force India passed 100 points for the first time since they formed in 2008! cheer.gif

Thank you F1! biggrin.gif

Posted by: Silas 25th November 2012, 08:29 PM

What an absolutely outstanding race and a fantastic finale.

Posted by: Silas 25th November 2012, 08:32 PM

That drive through wasn't without cause though. I blame Hamilton for ruining what would have been the perfect end to this season by having a Force India on the top step. Although his retirement did make me jump for joy.

Can't say I'll miss HRT to be honest. They were basically a mobile chicane at times. Just didn't have the budget to match the other teams. I guess. They were lucky to be in F1 thanks to a buyout from Colin Kolles.

11 teams for 2013. Wonder if they'll be a new F1 team in 2014 possibly?

Posted by: Silas 2nd December 2012, 09:41 PM

Not surprised they aren't in 2013 tbh. Will be interesting to see if there is a bidding war for the 12th spot on the grid for 2014 though.

Romain Grosjean will be staying at Lotus for 2013 where he will partner alongside Kimi Raikkonen again. I hope Grosjean will have mend his ways and not get involved in as many first-lap incidents than he did this season. How do people think Grosjean will do next year?

Posted by: lxix 18th December 2012, 10:45 AM

I think Grosjean will improve. He's very a quick driver, at the start of the year Kimi fans were getting worried because Grosjean was out qualifying him.
He just needs to spend the summer analysing his mistakes & talking to ALOT of experienced people.

It's better having a quick driver that's a bit wreckless than having a safe but slow driver.
