BuzzJack Enthusiast Joined: 1 January 2016 Posts: 907 User: 22,819	After taking Glastonbury by storm with their "legends" slot over the weekend, the Electric Light Orchestra's greatest hits album All Over the World has hit a massive sales landmark, OfficialCharts.com can confirm. The retrospective has tipped sales of one million (1.005m as of today, June 28 according to Official Charts Company data), hitting the milestone some 11 years after its release. Thousands turned out to watch the British rock band at Glastonbury last weekend, where they played their biggest hits including Evil Woman, Showdown and Mr Blue Sky in the famous "legends" slot, previously played by the likes of Dolly Parton and Lionel Richie. All Over the World: The Very Best of Electric Light Orchestra was originally released in 2005, entering the Official Albums Chart at Number 11 before climbing to Number 6 the following week. It has since enjoyed 112 weeks in the Top 100, having been re-released in 2011 and again earlier this month, entering inside the Top 5. Here's a breakdown of All Over the World's sales since its 2005 release: Total physical sales: 858,931 Total album download sales: 138,787 Individual track downloads: 674,894 Individual track streams: 23,024,405 What's more, there appears to be plenty of life in the record yet; their Glasto slot has set the album on course for a new chart peak this week, currently at Number 2 as of today's sales flash. ELO aren't the only act enjoying post-Glasto success on the Official Albums Chart; Adele is on course to reclaim the top spot following her headline set, while a string of albums from performers including Muse, Foals and Tame Impala are set to to re-enter the Top 40.

According to the Wikipedia ELO Discography page there are 40 compilations available (not all are UK ones but still a substantial number). You can tell when a back catalogue has been plundered to the max when the number of Compilation Albums available is more than triple the number of Studio Albums For ELO studio Albums = 13 (Compilation Albums = 40) Compilation Quotient = 3.07 for every Studio Album. One of the highest Compilation Quotients I can think of is Frankie Goes To Hollywood (2 Studio Albums, 10 Compilation with a Quotient of 5 for every Studio Album). I'm sure there must be other Artists out there that have a higher Quotient than that.

All Over the World: The Very Best of ELO sold 16,986 copies to debut at #11 the w/e 18 June 2005, before increasing to #6 with sales of 53,829 the next week, thanks to Father's Day. It re-entered for its first re-release exactly 6 years later in 2011, this time at #22 with 6,230 copies, then slipped to #23 but with about 7.1k the following week before shooting up to #10 with (unconfirmed, but I assume) 15-20k. In 2012, the w/e 13 October, it re-entered at #10 with 11,526 copies thanks to a BBC 4 documentary and promo from Jeff Lynne. It remained at that position the following week with 9,482 copies - a week where another ELO compilation debuted at #8 and a Jeff Lynne solo album debuted at #7. Its re-entry a couple of weeks ago saw it at #4 with 12,124 copies, before slipping to #7 but with an increased 12,584.
