Stormzy and Lil Nas X battle for #1 on the singles chart, Lewis Capaldi's latest single Hold Me While You Wait shouldn't be far off, and new arrivals from Shawn Mendes' If I Can't Have You and Logic/Eminem' Homicide could hit the top 10. Other new tracks come from Bastille, Hardy Caprio, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds and Kylie Minogue

On the albums chart P!nk defends the #1 spot against Vampire Weekend with their fourth album Father of the Bride. Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes' End of Suffering and Lucy Spraggan's Today Was a Good Day are among the new releases along with The Wildhearts, Guy Chambers, Ten Tonnes and Big Thief

Vampire Weekend are closing in on their highest chart position ever on the UK's Official Albums Chart, and they could even clinch the coveted Number 1 spot.

The group's fourth studio album Father Of The Bride is all-but-certain to mark their third consecutive Top 10 appearance and leads today's (May 7) Official Chart Update. The New York trio's previous highest placing was Number 3, achieved by both 2010's Contra and 2013's Modern Vampires of the City.

The Ezra-Koenig fronted band face stiff competition for the top spot however, in the form of last week's chart topper Pink and her eighth album Hurts 2B Human. So far, just 443 combined sales separate both albums, with Vampire Weekend leading on paid-for sales and Pink ahead on streams.

Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes are on track for best Official Chart placement yet with End of Suffering at 3, while Newcastle rockers The Wildhearts are at 5 with their first album in 10 years Renaissance Men. Lucy Spraggan is also Top 10 bound with Today Is A Good Day at 8, on track to be her second album to reach the top flight.

Elsewhere in the Top 20, Swedish death metal outfit Amon Amarth are destined for a new UK personal best with Berserker at Number 13, and Ten Tonnes is currently at Number 19 with his self-titled debut.

Over on the Official Singles Chart Update, Stormzy is primed for a second week at Number 1 with Vossi Bop, trailed by Lil Nas X's Old Town Road at Number 2 by 2,400 combined sales.

Lewis Capaldi could very well have Top 5 singles by Friday's Official Chart as his former chart topper Someone You Loved lifts a spot to 3, and his new track Hold Me While You Wait is set to be this week's highest new entry at 4.

Shawn Mendes is on track for his fifth UK Top 10 single with If I Can't Have You at Number 8, while Logic and Eminen have united for Homicide, new at Number 11.

Finally, a further three new entries could impact this week's Top 40: Hardy Caprio & Digdat's Guten Tag (18); M.E.N. II by Bugzy Malone (34); and Wild from Mostack (38).

We wouldn't have this problem if people invested in Kylie instead!

Kylie should have released New York City as cassette single in 7 different colours and she'll be #1 by now smile.gif
haven't liked any Kylie song since All the Lovers

Kylie could easily move 5000 physical releases if available and would see her achieve a further Top 75 hit at the least.

"Tanking" seems like a great exaggeration. It might not have made the Top 10 but it's showing serious longevity, especially when most people wrote her off as a one hit wonder.

Posted by: Burns May 7 2019, 02:51 PM

"Logic and Eminem have united for Homicide"

Posted by: WhoOdyssey May 7 2019, 03:11 PM

Outside the Top 40 new entries:

45: Bastille - Joy
60: Billie Eilish - you should see me in a crown
61: Iggy Azalea - Started
73: Vampire Weekend - This Life
87: Ramin Djawadi - The Night King (Game of Thrones)
89: Headie One - All Day
90: Dominic Fike - 3 Nights
91: Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - Black Star Dancing

Becky Hill & Weiss also re-entering at #70.

Posted by: danG May 7 2019, 03:17 PM

would be nice if Becky Hill (which would be new, she just appeared in the mids before), Vampire Weekend and Dominic Fike could scrape the top 100 this week.
hopefully Stormzy can keep Old Town Road off the top again too.

Hardly it's been in the chart 9 weeks and remember there's 4 new enteries ahead this week so if these are removed she'd be at 15.

It's sticking around at the moment despite not making the top 10, I'd say it was still a decent sized hit.

Hadji last spotted foaming at the mouth over this.

"WHY aren't people downloading and streaming the new track instead? It's May for for God's sake, not March".

Posted by: Bré May 7 2019, 04:39 PM

I see 'wish you were gay' is slipping onto ACR despite its climb last week - thank god, especially as it looks like it'll be allowing 'you should see me in a crown' to finally make a belated top 100 debut! wub.gif I presume that would have been charting for a few weeks already (and probably a bit higher) if it weren't starred out. Great to see that Vampire Weekend should get a top 100 hit from this era after all as well (was a shame 'Harmony Hall', one of the best songs of the year, couldn't manage it but I'll take 'This Life') and Dominic Fike also on course to debut this week.

Lewis Capaldi may a bit surprised by having another top 10 hit. As he said in Music Week last week:

QUOTE
Q: How do you follow a smash like Someone You Loved?

LC: “You don’t try to. I think if you try to follow that with another Top 10, you’re going to be sorely disappointed. I’d be very surprised if we had another song in the Top 10.”

I think he might be a bit wrong there! I'm actually surprised to see him have another top 10 hit, at least so soon, given the way the charts work these days.

Posted by: Bjork May 7 2019, 05:37 PM

Actually if the label had been smarter and put the song on HH from Friday, it could have easily been top 3

You should see me in a crown is the best Billie track to date, so glad it's finally charting, much better newies outside the top 40 than inside

Posted by: pippa May 7 2019, 06:59 PM

That is a stronger than anticipated start for Lucy Spraggan.
Wonderful to see Take That Top 30 again, it looks safe to stay Top 40 for the week.
Noel Gallagher i thought would be initially higher but Top 100 is out of the question now.
Even more disappointingly Kylie is not Top 100 in the midweeks.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey May 7 2019, 07:01 PM

Wouldn't surprise me if Noel makes it when the EP is released - he always does well on vinyl & physical.

I believe that's how Holy Mountain made it to the top 40.

For no reason

People are listening to it more with the Sunnier weather (though it didn't seem like that today lol)

Shame Ten Tonnes is looking like it could potentially miss the Top 30, it's a great album.

Lucy Spraggan should manage a Top 20 position on Friday.
Unfortunately it will most likely suffer the same fate as recent releases by Emma Bunton and Claire Richards.

Stop being a Debbie downer its still a fantastic result for Lucy and she never really been a consistent seller anyway yahoo.gif yahoo.gif

Going to be close in singles, gwon pink show Ariana she not the only one who can get multiple weeks at album number 1 yahoo.gif

Her album seems to have climbed back on the iTunes chart into the top ten so could mean a boost in sales

Elton John number 30 in the latest midweeks, I expect in the next few weeks that album will see sales similar to Queen's Platinum Collection

Good to see new LewCap will debut in the top 5!

I reckon he'll have 3 tracks in the top 10 when the album is released.

Pink looks certain to retain her Number 1 position.
