It would have been nice for some of those songs to be top 10 hits.

I don't think there's going to be very many of these tbh. Maybe a post-album single from someone like Ed Sheeran or an indie/alternative artist which gets very close to top 10 on sales, but not quite (and streaming boosts it there officially).

Yeah I can't see there being a huge amount, definitely not as many as those which get there on sales but not officially.

G.R.L. seem to have been the biggest victims of streaming in this thread, falling 5 places from #6 to #11 sad.gif

In the US there have been numerous songs that went top 10 only because of streaming (Loyal, Started From the Bottom, Love Me, f***in' Problems), but it rarely happens in the UK (granted it hasn't been very long that streaming has been included).

I could see it happening with Thinking Out Loud, since it's already high on streaming, so when it gets released there might be a week when it's climbing the charts where streaming pushes it into the top 10 before it gets there on sales.

To be fair, that's because the US charts include streaming from YouTube and the like, which is more prone to produce outliers that don't do so well in sales, while Streaming with Spotify and the like mostly helps big tracks and big artists.

You cannot compare the US chart to the UK one, in the UK not all streamings are counted in fact it is very limited (10/week/person or something like that?), while in the US I'm pretty sure there are different rules how they calculate streams to the Hot 100.

Posted by: { bré } 10th September 2014, 11:53 AM

I think the only way there will be a top 10 hit that didn't get there on the sales-only chart (in the near future anyway) is if we get another song that would ordinarily be a long running #11 hit but happens to coincide with what would ordinarily be a scrapey top 10 hit. I imagine they'll be more common as streaming continues to get bigger.

Update as both Sam Smith tracks take over two Taylor Swift tracks, no shock considering she removed the tracks from Spotify. Like I Can becomes the 2nd song to reach the top 10 with streams added before it makes it on sales, although I assume it will make the sales top 10 soon a la Thinking Out Loud anyway.

Posted by: JosephCarey 7th December 2014, 07:12 PM

Big update this week!

- Ella Henderson, James Newton Howard and Band Aid 30 lose a top 10 week.
- David Guetta and Calvin Harris/Ellie Goulding both gain a top 10 week.
- One Direction also gain a top 10 week, making Steal My Girl the first song to both gain and lose a week!

Sam Smith remains the only song to date to have made the top 10 without ever making it on sales with Like I Can too.

Posted by: Dobbo 7th December 2014, 10:35 PM

Steaming working wonders this week then! All 3 superior switches.

I like all 6 songs involved but would have happily sacrificed a top 10 week for 2 out of Guetta/Calvin/1D to see Ella get a third top 10 hit and 'The Hanging Tree' a top 10 peak. Grr.

Posted by: JosephCarey 16th December 2014, 11:34 PM

Three swaps this week!

- Bring Me the Horizon, The Pogues/Kirsty MacColl and, surprisingly, Meghan Trainor all lose top 10 weeks! Meghan now has a total gain of 0 weeks as this loss has balanced out her previous gain.
- Calvin Harris/Ellie Goulding, Clean Bandit/Jess Glynne and Olly Murs/Travie McCoy all gain weeks! Clean Bandit/Jess Glynne set a new record for lowest position on sales to be top 10 officially, at #16.

- Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding gain their 4th week with Outside.
- Gorgon City lose a week, and Jennifer Hudson loses her first top 10 cry.gif
- Band Aid 30 become the first track to lose more than one week top 10 ohmy.gif

Meghan gains a week with All About That Bass, its third gain and second overall week gained as it lost a week before.

Posted by: Hadji 7th August 2015, 07:08 PM

I'd easily swap Disclosure for Sam Feldt on this one

Posted by: Dobbo 7th August 2015, 07:37 PM

I'd swap both! As much as I love Cheerleader it's most definitely has its time now & Joe Stone deserved one week there...

Posted by: zenon 14th August 2015, 07:30 PM

Major Lazer x DJ Snake was one place away from being the first entry to be outside the sales top 20 yet top 10 officially. 11 combined - 25 sales!

Posted by: JosephStyles 15th August 2015, 06:38 PM

Updated - Omi gains his 5th week, and Joe Stone becomes the first song to lose 2 weeks top 10 and still not have a top 10 peak! Every other song to have lost multiple weeks so far still managed at least one week in there.

No updates this week!

Birdy missing out for Martin solveig cry.gif Horrid swap smile.gif
Felix in instead of Stormzy on the other hand wub.gif

Posted by: JosephStyles 25th September 2015, 09:06 PM

Updated! Naughty Boy and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis lose a week, with The Weeknd and Pia Mia gaining. Pia's now on a total gain of 0 weeks, with her gain this week balancing out the loss from a few weeks ago biggrin.gif

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 25th September 2015, 09:28 PM

Yay for Pia finally getting a week but would have loved Macklemore and especially Runnin to make the top 10 sad.gif

Posted by: Hadji 2nd October 2015, 04:49 PM

Little Mix become the first artist to reach the top 10 on sales and miss the top 20 officially

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 2nd October 2015, 04:52 PM

Would swap them all around this week as I love all 3 of the new entries and downtown is also great sad.gif Especially gutting that Little Mix go top 10 on sales and miss the top 20 officially sad.gif

This is true if we're going by peak positions, but Taylor Swift actually ended up at #10 on sales and #21 officially one week with Shake It Off, so it's not the first occasion overall.

I'll be updating this properly tomorrow as I always do.

To be fair though, we shouldn't count songs which are unstreamable. At least Little Mix's song is streamable

Posted by: JosephStyles 3rd October 2015, 02:48 PM

Updated! Macklemore & Ryan Lewis lose a 2nd week, with Nick Brewer, Rudimental and Little Mix all missing out too. Jess Glynne, The Weeknd, Calvin Harris and Pia Mia gain a week each.

Posted by: Dobbo 3rd October 2015, 02:51 PM

Only Rudimental & The Weeknd swapping would have made it perfect.

Posted by: Hadji 3rd October 2015, 03:33 PM

I'd easily swap Jess Glynne, The Weeknd and Calvin Harris for Rudimental, Nick Brewer and Little Mix

Posted by: JosephStyles 10th October 2015, 02:04 PM

Updated! Natalie La Rose and The Vamps (cry.gif) lose a week each, as do Rudimental for the second week running. Calvin Harris and Pia Mia gain weeks, and Drake also makes the official top 10 despite not making the sales top 10 (yet), joining Sam Smith's Like I Can in this exclusive group. This will probably change in future weeks though!

Posted by: JosephStyles 17th October 2015, 02:33 PM

As expected, Drake loses the above accolade as he's made the sales top 10 this week. Olly Murs, The 1975 and Philip George lose a week each, with Pia Mia, Sigala and Ellie Goulding gaining a week.

Posted by: Hadji 17th October 2015, 02:45 PM

Id happily exchange Olly Murs and The 1975 for Pia Mia and Sigala

Posted by: Hadji 23rd October 2015, 09:43 PM

This week's changes

Gains

5) 11 Justin Bieber - What Do You Mean?
10) 14 Ellie Goulding - On My Mind

Losses

11) 10 Sam Smith - Writing's On The Wall
21) 8 Ben Haenow featuring Kelly Clarkson - Second Hand Heart

Posted by: JosephStyles 24th October 2015, 12:31 AM

Hadji, I've told you before, I am capable of updating this thread on my own (on a Saturday as it works best for me). Not sure why you keep ignoring this.

Posted by: JosephStyles 24th October 2015, 10:44 AM

And with that, the first post is now updated. Ben Haenow gets the title of highest sales position to not be top 20.

Posted by: Hadji 24th October 2015, 12:24 PM

Funnily enough, both artists who missed the top 20 but made it top 10 on sales are X Factor winners

Posted by: JosephStyles 31st October 2015, 02:12 PM

No changes this week!

Posted by: JosephStyles 7th November 2015, 05:28 PM

No changes for a second week running ohmy.gif

Posted by: JosephStyles 14th November 2015, 02:50 PM

Updated! AURORA (sad.gif) and Coldplay lose a week each, with Justin and Drake gaining their second week each.

Posted by: JosephStyles 21st November 2015, 02:36 PM

Updated! Justin Bieber gains a third week with What Do You Mean? and Sam Smith loses a second with Writing's On The Wall.

Posted by: JosephStyles 27th November 2015, 08:38 PM

Updated! Olly Murs loses his second week, while Adele sets a new record for lowest charting sales top 10, as When We Were Young enters at #29 despite being #9 on sales, obviously down to no streaming. WSTRN and One Direction each gain their first week.

Posted by: JosephCarey 6th December 2015, 05:10 PM

Updated biggrin.gif Olly Murs and Nathan Sykes both lose a week each with The Weeknd and WSTRN gaining. Olly now has the record for most weeks lost without ever making the official top 10, with three!

Posted by: JosephCarey 12th December 2015, 03:23 PM

Updated! MNEK/Zara Larsson and Justin Bieber (What Do You Mean?) both gain a week each with Sigma/Rita Ora and Naughty Boy/Beyoncé/Arrow Benjamin losing a week.

Posted by: JosephCarey 19th December 2015, 05:24 PM

Updated biggrin.gif Justin Bieber gains a 5th week at the expense of One Direction.

Posted by: JosephCarey 26th December 2015, 03:32 PM

Updated! Justin Bieber's What Do You Mean? now matches the record for most top 10 weeks gained due to streaming, with 6. Stormzy also gains a week. Fleur East and Louisa Johnson both lose a week each.

Posted by: JosephMendes 2nd January 2016, 05:27 PM

Updated! biggrin.gif Zara Larsson and MNEK gain a week, and Little Mix lose their second week (after their very first week).

Posted by: JosephMendes 9th January 2016, 02:45 PM

Updated! Motorhead and Fleur East both lose a week, the second week for the latter surprisingly! Justin Bieber gains a second week to set a new record for most weeks gained, at 7. Coldplay also gain a week, now having a total gain of 0 weeks.

Posted by: JosephMendes 16th January 2016, 04:21 PM

Updated for this week! David Bowie loses a week with two songs - Heroes would've been in the top 10 at #7 for the first time without streaming involved, and Starman would've returned to its #10 peak. Justin Bieber and Coldplay gain a week.

Posted by: JosephMendes 23rd January 2016, 05:48 PM

Updated! Little Mix/Jason Derulo and Grace/G-Eazy both lose a week each, and are replaced by Major Lazer/Nyla/Fuse ODG and, you guessed it, Justin Bieber. Light It Up becomes the second song to go top 10 officially but not on sales (after Like I Can), whether it gets there at a later date remains to be seen.

Posted by: JosephStyles 30th January 2016, 06:19 PM

First post updated for this week! A busy week this week. Little Mix become the first non-Taylor artist to lose multiple top 10 weeks with two songs as Secret Love Song loses a second week drama.gif Elle King and Rihanna also lose a week each. Gains this week come from Adele, Major Lazer and Justin Bieber, who gains a 10th week with What Do You Mean?, also smashing the record for lowest sales position to be top 10 officially! Previous record holder was Major Lazer's Lean On, which was top 10 despite being #19 on sales. What Do You Mean? is #23 on sales this week - the first time a non-top 20 selling song is in the official top 10.

Posted by: JosephStyles 6th February 2016, 05:19 PM

Little Mix lose a third week this week, thankfully their asterisk should be removed next week! Justin Bieber's Sorry gains its first week in their place.

Posted by: JosephStyles 13th February 2016, 12:52 PM

Updated for this week biggrin.gif Jason Derulo and Coldplay lose a week each, meaning Coldplay have both lost 2 weeks AND gained 2 weeks! This is the first song to both lose and gain multiple weeks. Justin Bieber (Sorry) and Snakehips gain a week each.

Posted by: JosephStyles 20th February 2016, 02:09 PM

Jason Derulo loses his second week this week, and sadly Viola Beach also miss out. Snakehips and Justin Bieber both gain again, as per last week.

Posted by: Hadji 20th February 2016, 03:33 PM

Viola Beach missing top 10 is like G.R.L all over again

Posted by: JosephStyles 27th February 2016, 03:37 PM

Adele loses a 2nd week with When We Were Young this week, 3 months after she lost one originally! Mike Posner also loses a week but I expect he'll end up gaining at the end of his top 10 run. Justin Bieber [Sorry] and Shawn Mendes gain a week each.

Posted by: MarthaJonesFan 5th March 2016, 04:59 PM

Riton and Tinie Tempah both lose a week this week, and Little Mix lose their fourth, which ties them for the record of most weeks lost sad.gif Shawn Mendes, ZAYN and Justin Bieber [Love Yourself] all gain a week.

Posted by: Dobbo 5th March 2016, 05:05 PM

I'm extremely surprised ZAYN is actually not top 10 on the sales chart already!

Posted by: Hadji 11th March 2016, 10:14 PM

Fifth Harmony and Adele (When We Were Young) both lose a week in favour of Justin Bieber (Love Yourself) and ZAYN

Posted by: JoeyJeppssonWall 12th March 2016, 02:23 PM

I appreciate you're trying to help but I've asked you more than once before to not try and get in before me with this job, please respect that.

In other news, Light It Up finally gets a top 10 peak on sales, leaving Sam Smith's Like I Can as the only official top 10 to never make the top 10 on sales once again.

Posted by: JoeyJeppssonWall 19th March 2016, 02:07 PM

No changes this week! biggrin.gif

Posted by: JoeyJeppssonWall 27th March 2016, 03:38 PM

Selena Gomez and Blonde/Craig David lose a week each this week, with Rihanna/Drake and ZAYN gaining.

Posted by: JoeyJeppssonWall 2nd April 2016, 03:53 PM

Three losses this week, from Blonde, DNCE and Alan Walker. Rihanna, Jonas Blue and ZAYN all benefit however and gain a week each.

Posted by: Hadji 2nd April 2016, 03:54 PM

I'd swap them all especially Jonas Blue. Trash like that shouldn't be in the top 10

Posted by: JosephStyles 9th April 2016, 04:03 PM

So the main thing of note this week is The Vamps' I Found a Girl, which is #10 on sales and #30 overall, easily the lowest official position for a sales top 10 so far drama.gif Drake also suffers badly with no streaming, going from #5 on sales to #21 overall. DNCE also lose a week this week. Gaining weeks are Major Lazer, Jonas Blue and Rihanna, who matches Justin Bieber's record for lowest sales position to be top 10 overall, being #23 on sales. A busy week to say the least laugh.gif

Posted by: JosephStyles 16th April 2016, 12:44 PM

Rihanna sets a new record for the lowest sales position to still be top 10 overall, being at #28 on pure sales drama.gif Lukas Graham also gain their first week, meaning Meghan Trainor and Kevin Simm lose a week each.

Posted by: JosephStyles 29th April 2016, 12:58 PM

Records have been broken in both directions this week. Rihanna manages to be as low as #32 on sales yet #10 overall, whilst P!nk is #9 overall and as far down as #32 officially drama.gif Meghan loses her 2nd top 10 week and Lukas Graham gain their 2nd.

Being as it's been five weeks since it was last updated, I've decided to volunteer to bring it back up to date.

May 6th - A staggering four changes with Beyonce, DJ Snake, Disturbed and Little Mix losing their places from Fifth Harmony, Galantis, Tinie and Zara's duet and Zara Larsson's own Lush Life.

May 13th - Two losses from Beyonce and Little Mix, the gains coming from Fifth Harmony and Zara Larsson

May 20th - Four losses from Invictus Games Choir, The Stone Roses, Beyonce and Reggie 'n' Boilie, the gains coming from Mike Posner, Desiigner, Drake feat Rihanna and Fifth Harmony

May 27th - Four losses from Beyonce, Sigma feat Take That, Gnash feat Olivia O'Brien and Little Mix, the gains coming from Drake feat Rihanna, Mike Posner, Desiigner and Fifth Harmony

This week Pink and Beyonce miss out making room for Drake feat Rihanna and Mike Posner

Posted by: JoeyJeppssonWall 3rd June 2016, 09:49 PM

I will continue this and the other thread and catch up at a point in the future but ta for stepping in temporarily!!

Posted by: zenon 22nd June 2016, 03:39 PM

More catch ups

June 10th - DJ Khaled feat Drake, Pink and Cheat Codes miss out, places gained by Sia, Mike Posner and Drake feat Rihanna

June 17th - Dua Lipa, The Neales and The Stone Roses miss out, places gained by Cheat Codes, Sia and Galantis

Is this the first time that the sales top 10 has included two tracks that aren't even top 20 officially? I'll Be There and Beautiful Thing only managing 21 and 22 respectively.

Posted by: JosephStyles 27th July 2016, 05:25 PM

All up to date!

This week, gains for One Dance, Treat You Better and Too Good while Tilted, Sunshine and You Don't Know Love miss out.

Posted by: JosephSpears 24th August 2016, 03:00 PM

Please be patient waiting for the updates, just because I've not done it yet doesn't mean I won't be getting round to it soon, I've asked this before heehee.gif No need to fill in for me when it's only a few days overdue.

Posted by: JosephSpears 24th August 2016, 03:37 PM

Updated anyway. Too Good matches the most weeks gained record, set by What Do You Mean? earlier this year. One Dance matches the joint second lowest sales position (#28) to still be top 10 overall. It's joint with Rihanna's Work, which also set the overall record position of #31 the week after.

Posted by: zenon 24th August 2016, 03:39 PM

Sorry, as it looked like it wasn't going to be updated before Friday afternoon, I decided to do the job.

Posted by: JosephSpears 24th August 2016, 03:48 PM

Thanks for the help but I'll be OK to catch up even if it's not done before Friday heehee.gif

Posted by: JosephSpears 31st August 2016, 08:26 PM

Updated! Losses for Ellie Goulding, Craig David/Sigala and TIEKS/Dan Harkna, with gains for Drake x2 and Shawn Mendes. Too Good breaks the record for most weeks gained - it's now on 11.

I won't be updating it, seems nobody really cares either considering it's been 7 months since the last post too kink.gif

Posted by: zenon 12th April 2017, 09:12 PM

If no one else wants to update it then I'm happy to do so myself although there's a lot of catching up to do first.

Posted by: Dobbo 13th April 2017, 04:59 PM

I'd still keep an eye on this if continued! Always fun to see the record for weeks gain/lost broken which occurs very regularly now with the equivalent top 40 thread...
