Similar to the thread about top 40 weeks, I thought it would be interesting to see the effect streaming has had on the amount of weeks a song is in the top 10, as opposed to if the chart were sales only.

It would have been nice for some of those songs to be top 10 hits.

I don't think there's going to be very many of these tbh. Maybe a post-album single from someone like Ed Sheeran or an indie/alternative artist which gets very close to top 10 on sales, but not quite (and streaming boosts it there officially).

Yeah I can't see there being a huge amount, definitely not as many as those which get there on sales but not officially.

G.R.L. seem to have been the biggest victims of streaming in this thread, falling 5 places from #6 to #11

In the US there have been numerous songs that went top 10 only because of streaming (Loyal, Started From the Bottom, Love Me, f***in' Problems), but it rarely happens in the UK (granted it hasn't been very long that streaming has been included).

I could see it happening with Thinking Out Loud, since it's already high on streaming, so when it gets released there might be a week when it's climbing the charts where streaming pushes it into the top 10 before it gets there on sales.

To be fair, that's because the US charts include streaming from YouTube and the like, which is more prone to produce outliers that don't do so well in sales, while Streaming with Spotify and the like mostly helps big tracks and big artists.

You cannot compare the US chart to the UK one, in the UK not all streamings are counted in fact it is very limited (10/week/person or something like that?), while in the US I'm pretty sure there are different rules how they calculate streams to the Hot 100.

I think the only way there will be a top 10 hit that didn't get there on the sales-only chart (in the near future anyway) is if we get another song that would ordinarily be a long running #11 hit but happens to coincide with what would ordinarily be a scrapey top 10 hit. I imagine they'll be more common as streaming continues to get bigger.

Failed to mention last week that Thinking Out Loud was the first song to make the top 10 with streams added but not on sales! Obviously that changes this week as it's at #4 in both charts but even so.

Update as both Sam Smith tracks take over two Taylor Swift tracks, no shock considering she removed the tracks from Spotify. Like I Can becomes the 2nd song to reach the top 10 with streams added before it makes it on sales, although I assume it will make the sales top 10 soon a la Thinking Out Loud anyway.

Big update this week!

- Ella Henderson, James Newton Howard and Band Aid 30 lose a top 10 week.
- David Guetta and Calvin Harris/Ellie Goulding both gain a top 10 week.
- One Direction also gain a top 10 week, making Steal My Girl the first song to both gain and lose a week!

Sam Smith remains the only song to date to have made the top 10 without ever making it on sales with Like I Can too.

Update this week as Shake It Off loses a fourth week top 10, and actually went from #10 on sales to #23 overall, ouch! I believe that's the biggest difference so far when it comes to the top 10. Meghan gains a week with All About That Bass, its third gain and second overall week gained as it lost a week before.

Updated for this week Jason Derulo and Coldplay lose a week each, meaning Coldplay have both lost 2 weeks AND gained 2 weeks! This is the first song to both lose and gain multiple weeks. Justin Bieber (Sorry) and Snakehips gain a week each.

Adele loses a 2nd week with When We Were Young this week, 3 months after she lost one originally! Mike Posner also loses a week but I expect he'll end up gaining at the end of his top 10 run. Justin Bieber [Sorry] and Shawn Mendes gain a week each.

So the main thing of note this week is The Vamps' I Found a Girl, which is #10 on sales and #30 overall, easily the lowest official position for a sales top 10 so far Drake also suffers badly with no streaming, going from #5 on sales to #21 overall. DNCE also lose a week this week. Gaining weeks are Major Lazer, Jonas Blue and Rihanna, who matches Justin Bieber's record for lowest sales position to be top 10 overall, being #23 on sales. A busy week to say the least

Records have been broken in both directions this week. Rihanna manages to be as low as #32 on sales yet #10 overall, whilst P!nk is #9 overall and as far down as #32 officially Meghan loses her 2nd top 10 week and Lukas Graham gain their 2nd.

Being as it's been five weeks since it was last updated, I've decided to volunteer to bring it back up to date.

May 6th - A staggering four changes with Beyonce, DJ Snake, Disturbed and Little Mix losing their places from Fifth Harmony, Galantis, Tinie and Zara's duet and Zara Larsson's own Lush Life.

May 13th - Two losses from Beyonce and Little Mix, the gains coming from Fifth Harmony and Zara Larsson

May 20th - Four losses from Invictus Games Choir, The Stone Roses, Beyonce and Reggie 'n' Boilie, the gains coming from Mike Posner, Desiigner, Drake feat Rihanna and Fifth Harmony

May 27th - Four losses from Beyonce, Sigma feat Take That, Gnash feat Olivia O'Brien and Little Mix, the gains coming from Drake feat Rihanna, Mike Posner, Desiigner and Fifth Harmony

This week Pink and Beyonce miss out making room for Drake feat Rihanna and Mike Posner

Updated anyway. Too Good matches the most weeks gained record, set by What Do You Mean? earlier this year. One Dance matches the joint second lowest sales position (#28) to still be top 10 overall. It's joint with Rihanna's Work, which also set the overall record position of #31 the week after.
