BuzzJack Music Forum _ Movies and Theatre _ Least Favourite Disney Animated Classic Round 10

Posted by: Acidburn 7th December 2015, 11:59 PM

Welcome To Round 10 of Least Fave Disney Animated Classic, and we are now down to our final 25, and 29 have bowed out so far. Finishing in 26th place is "Tarzan" receiving 8 votes. It has remained quite popular throughout the previous rounds with no higher than 3 votes for 7 rounds. This also means that we finally lose another of the "Disney Renaissance" era, which started in 1989 and came to an end in 1999, which consisted of 10 animated features which restored Disney's public and critical interest and became new classics. "Tarzan" was the 10th and final from that era. This now leaves 8 left in that era here, after "The Rescuers Down Under" bowed out in Round 3 and now this in Round 9.

As for the others "Wreck It Ralph" came pretty close to bowing out after receiving 5 votes, but "Tarzan" started picking up more votes and ended up getting voted out. Glad "WIR" is still in the running, as I do love it and do hope that it can last a little longer. "Pocahontas" managed the third highest amount of votes with 4, it's joint highest since Round 7. Then "The Fox and the Hound" also starts picking up votes as the competition carries on with 3 votes, after scoring none in the last round. Even "Dumbo" isn't safe as it gained 2 votes, after 6 Rounds of 0 votes and 2 rounds of just 1 vote. "Bambi", "Alice In Wonderland", "Peter Pan", "Robin Hood" & "The Lion King" each score 1 vote each.

26th Tarzan = 8 Votes

I always remember the Renaissance quite fondly, being a child of 90's and experiencing these wonderful Disney classics and they were all very good movies, the ones from the earlier half of the decade were the best ones and "Tarzan" probably would rank 9th out of the 10 movies from that period. I'd have to say that this was a great way to end that era, as I think at the time computer animation was already taking off thanks to "Toy Story", and hand drawn animation had already reached it's peak by this point although they would further mix computer animation into hand drawn movies such as "Atlantis" and "Treasure Planet", but they didn't quite have the same impact, and it was such a shame that by the next decade Disney had started to go downhill and stale with their storytelling, (apart from 1 or 2 movies that were decent). "Tarzan" itself is a brilliant movie with some beautiful animation, great characters and when he's swinging from the trees and sliding down them, it looked excellent, and the story was really good, the only thing I wasn't keen on was the villain, who I found very weak and not fully realized, just kinda boring. The voice acting from it's cast was really superb, that can make or break a animated feature. Tony Goldwyn did an excellent job as Tarzan, he totally nailed it and really worked at it and originally Brendan Fraser auditioned for the part but didn't get it. Minnie Driver was also great as Jane as was Glenn Close whose always amazing in everything she does, bringing such a heartwarming glow as Tarzan's adoptive mother Kala and especially when she sings at the beginning of the movie, she was just great. The Phil Collins soundtrack used for this movie, I thought was pretty good, I know opinions have been very mixed on this subject, but I found it was used rather well here and was much better here, than when he sung again on the "Brother Bear" soundtrack a few years later.

Right then guys same rules apply just vote for your least favourite Disney movie and the one with the most votes will be gone by Round 11. As we're down to the final 25, I will be keeping this poll open for a little longer, so the next round will be on Friday 11th December.

Pocahontas

Posted by: Joe ho ho! 8th December 2015, 12:07 AM

Tangled for me.

I'd really like to get rid of Frozen soon, as while I like it, it doesn't compare to most of the remaining classics. But I guess that will be wasted votes.

Tarzan out cry.gif it's like in my top 5 of all these. Plot, characters and music are amazing y'all sad.gif

Dumbo again. Pocahontas or Tangled going out wouldn't be too shabby either.

I went with Robin Hood after a surprising time spent deliberating. Why does Disney have to slay so much?

Posted by: Cheznuts 8th December 2015, 12:47 AM

Pocahontas. Really needs to go now, and can we not with Wreck it Ralph? sad.gif Such an excellent film and I'd say the all round best Disney film of the 21st Century for me. It wasn't JUST the princess films that were good in the 2010s dammit mad.gif

Lots of recent rubbish to choose from - I went for Lilo & Stitch.

Posted by: Qween 8th December 2015, 09:38 AM

Lilo & Stitch. Only about 6/7 of them are amazing, but generally they are all about a 7/8 for me.
