Snooker’s match-fixing investigation is close to an end, says WPBSA chairman Jason Ferguson, who explains that lifetime bans for anyone found guilty are very unlikely.

Eight players are currently suspended from the World Snooker Tour due to allegations of ‘manipulating the outcome of matches for betting purposes’.

Chen Zifan was the latest to be suspended just before Christmas, joining Yan Bingtao, Liang Wenbo, Lu Ning, Li Hang, Zhao Jianbo, Bai Langning and Chang Bingyu in being barred from events.

The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association chairman explains that there is no limit in how long the players can be suspended for, but he is pushing for the investigation to be completed as rapidly as possible.

Hossein Vafaei has replaced Zhao Xintong in this week's Cazoo Masters.

Vafaei will face Mark Selby in the opening round at the Alexandra Palace in London on Sunday at 7pm.

Zhao was cut from the tournament due to a suspension imposed by the WPBSA earlier this week and has decided not to appeal.

It relates to an investigation into match-fixing with 10 players now temporarily banned from the sport. No charges have been brought at this time.

Best of 7 for the title after the interval then.

Couldn't call it to be honest, 6-6 in the Masters final between Judd Trump and Mark Williams.

That could be a massive turning point. Feel Williams missed a big opportunity to go 8-6 up there. Could that cost him this match, 7-7.

Not totally convincing by Judd as he needed three chances but 8-8 it is. Very tense indeed.

Judd Trump ahead again and now just one frame from victory. So many times this week you’ve had to wonder how he’s still in the tournament and here he is so close to lifting the trophy…

It was a great final. Impressive mix of playing styles from Judd. Mark let it get away from him a bit in the end. That mammoth frame did him in a bit.
