BuzzJack Music Forum _ Kylie and Dannii Minogue _ Aphrodite or Golden

Aphrodite and Golden are 2 of Kylie's Number 1 studio albums of the last decade.
Which album do you prefer?

I voted for Golden because it offers more variety and emotional depth. But Kylie's career is under-pinned by records like Aphrodite, so I see the value in both.

Both good Kylie albums but would prefer Aphrodite by a nice distance.
Golden was very exciting in its campaign and chart performance and housed some great Kylie material.
Aphrodite has a consistent sound from start to finish and i feel it was her last big era.
By big, i refer to All the Lovers a hugely successful single and the album a platinum selling Number 1.

Golden was a good return to form but aphrodite is the better album.

Overall, Golden. Her voice sounds more natural and less processed. Aphrodite is a good album though and in my top 5 albums.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Jan 24 2020, 11:39 PM

Both albums were def launched with the best song of the album.

Definitely Aphrodite, that's one of my top favourites from Kylie. It soundtracked my Summer 2010 with its many big pure pop moments, just the sort of music I love from Kylie.

Golden was a such a refreshing record; it gave Kylie a new way of storytelling through her lyrics and the country twist brought some interesting productions. Kylie seemed so invested in the album which was really infectious and made the songs stand out even more. Not sure where it places on my album list but it's definitely a great album.

Aphrodite.

Golden is overrated.

But the effort she put into the Golden campaign was fantastic! It was really how I wished Madonna's Madame X era went. Like she had a fantastic campaign with the album and I could tell it was one of her favourite albums in a long while as she looked engaged and all round happy throughout the campaign.

Golden is good, and it was refreshing especially following kylie Christmas and kiss me once. I think overall it would place around 8th or 9th on my list of kylie albums. Aphrodite would be around 6th.

I think Aphrodite is pushing for my top 5, whereas Golden is about 7th.

I would place the albums in around the same positions.
With Kylie, she has a few top tier albums and the rest are much lower in my rankings.
Kylie certainly has top tier, middle and bottom tiered albums.

Light years, rhythm of love and enjoy yourself would be my top tier, kylie, IP, Fever, aphrodite and X are next tier, then let's get to it and golden, body language and km94 are next tier and kylie Christmas and kiss me once are bottom tier.

My current Rankings of her albums are:

01 Light Years
02 Enjoy Yourself
03 Impossible Princess
04 Rhythm of Love
05 Aphrodite

06 Kylie
07 Fever
08 X
09 Golden

10 Lets Get To It
11 Body Language
12 KM4

13 Kylie Christmas
14 Kiss Me Once

Enjoy yourself always ranks high for me, for many years I always rated rhythm of love above it but in the last few years it alternates. Light years I think will always remain my fave kylie album.

Enjoy Yourself is often hugely underrated and sometimes people forget it houses some excellent Kylie tracks.

I think I'd like it more if the ballads on the album weren't so terrible, I like all the upbeat tracks on it. It's very much an album of two halves for me.

Posted by: pippa Jan 29 2020, 12:53 PM

I think 3 quarters of Enjoy Yourself is just great.
It does have its weak moments but i don't really dislike any song on the album.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Jan 29 2020, 03:21 PM

The ballads are the weaker songs but the rest is ace.

Posted by: pippa Jan 29 2020, 04:13 PM

I think with most Kylie albums, her ballads are the least enjoyed songs.
That said, Kylie has delivered some wonderful ballads.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn Jan 29 2020, 05:00 PM

She really has, just not here.

By here, are you referring to Enjoy Yourself?

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn Jan 30 2020, 10:04 AM

I am indeed.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Jan 30 2020, 10:45 AM

Many of the pwl ballads are much of the same standard.

Posted by: pippa Jan 30 2020, 04:08 PM

Kylie has excelled to a much higher level with ballads since she departed PWL.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Jan 31 2020, 12:22 PM

Def agree, flower, bittersweet goodbye,,paper dolls just 3 gems that spring to mind

Posted by: pippa Jan 31 2020, 01:25 PM

I would add Fragile to that list.

There was a time when artists released the ballad collection for times of year likes Valentines.
This has stopped for a few years now.
