Im confused too, but people have told me that it just means they have just signed a songwriting deal. So they will probably be writing for other artists etc.. Im not too sure if its something else or...?

Yeah I think that's it. I understood they'd be joining a team too from this bit:
Said Thirlwall and Pinnock in a joint statement: “We’re so excited to be a part of the Sony/ATV and TwentySeven team! It feels amazing after eight years in the industry to be recognized as songwriters! We can’t wait to begin our journey with Jenna Andrews and Barry Weiss.”
“We’re an unlikely pairing of business and creative but the alchemy really works,” added Weiss and Andrews. “We’re ready to kill it in the world of music publishing and are excited about Little Mix, our other new signings and the opportunity to partner with everyone at Sony/ATV.”https://variety.com/2019/music/news/ittle-mix-jade-thirlwall-leigh-publishing-sonyatv-1203180401/

I'm pretty sure they always got their royalties for writing songs, this publishing deal just means their writings are going to be more actively shipped to other artists?
