BuzzJack Music Forum _ Eurovision Song Contest _ // SUPER EUROVISION III // 2008-2017

Posted by: Iz~ 9th July 2017, 03:32 PM

Welcome boys & girls, to heat 4. We have for you today, the indie nation that people don't appreciate when they send glorious dad rock, slightly appreciate when they send emotional and strained singers but mostly just ignore like most of Europe does. We have the little kid of the Nordic bloc who used to be doing well but has shifted to going through a period of bad luck despite the high quality of the entries not changing. And then we have the tiny island of Malta who is for the most part are just happy to be here, while Switzerland, the original kings of Eurovision have had some really tough times lately with most of this lineup having fallen deep in the semi.

I think the theme of this week is EUROVISION LONERS. The only nation here with more than a 50% record is Iceland, three of the nations here are three of the nations that have never won but come 2nd in the past and with only 19 of the 40 songs here being finalists most of these have few close Eurovision 'bros' to constantly see them through. Shall we see what you think of them?

VOTING

As normal, voting will be done in the traditional manner of 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 point(s). When we reach countries which have less than 10 entries, the number of points will simply reduce accordingly. You must rank each set of entries from the different countries separately. Do not send one ranking with a mixture of all 4 countries. Votes for this heat can be sent via PM to myself before 23:59 Saturday 15th July 2017. The results will be presented the following evening. The top 2 songs from each country will progress to the next round, as well as the next 2 highest ranked entries from across the 4 countries.

Ugh, I just know Iceland especially is going to be agony. Switzerland on the other hand...won't be.

Posted by: AdamAloud 10th July 2017, 05:15 PM

Voted!

For a country that loves Eurovision so much, Malta aren't brilliant are they. Vodka EXCEPTED *.*

Posted by: RobBob 10th July 2017, 05:41 PM

Look at Albania, they might have had the worst run for me of any country so far. Just worse than Netherlands and their Radio 2 MOR tripe.

That 2008-2010 run though, ALL ESSENTIAL heart.gif

Posted by: LexC 10th July 2017, 08:06 PM

Frankly I think we need a clean sweep of all the 2008 entries this round!

Posted by: Oliver 10th July 2017, 08:39 PM

Do you have to vote for every one? Or for instance can I just vote for Iceland?

You can vote for just one of them if you want to!

That wouldn't be the worst thing but 2009 is a higher priority for me - in my top 2 for every country here.

(although for Malta it's rather by default, SLIM PICKINGS (excuse the irony))

Posted by: Iz~ 15th July 2017, 04:28 PM

I almost forgot to send reminders! Who do I need reminding! You have until the rest of this evening!

Posted by: Oliver 15th July 2017, 06:40 PM

There are specifically four songs I want to go through for Iceland, I'm fairly confident for two of them but the other two I'll be incredibly disappointed if they don't make it.

Posted by: Iz~ 16th July 2017, 09:15 AM

I have... 10 votes. Hopefully that'll shame a few more people into voting (I'll accept late votes) but otherwise I shall be starting the results at... some point this evening, I'm afraid I'm not sure on details yet. You'll hear when it does, I'll do a final 30 minute warning or something.

Posted by: Iz~ 16th July 2017, 06:49 PM

Half an hour - I know we've got BJSC going on at the same time but you can check this in between or something.

SWITZERLAND

Let's get the country that people probably care about the least out of the way first (although it IS a tough tie with Malta and Albania on that front), so I'm just going for my personal least essential.

Anyway, here are the results of the bottom 5.

10th Michael Von Der Heide - Il Pleut De l'or - 26 points
9th Rykka - The Last Of Our Kind - 44 points
8th Takasa - You And Me - 52 points
7th Sinplus - Unbreakable - 55 points
6th Mélanie René - Time To Shine - 56 points

Mourning the loss of Switzerland's attempts at guitars. Correct bottom 2 though.

The top 5 going to be safe for the next round are

Anna Rossinelli - In Love For A While
Lovebugs - The Highest Heights
Paolo Beneguzzi - Era Stupendo
Sebalter - Hunter Of Stars
Timebelle - Apollo

Posted by: Iz~ 16th July 2017, 07:34 PM

MALTA

10th Glen Vella - One Life - 27 points
9th Thea Garrett - My Dream - 40 points
8th Claudia Faniello - Breathlessly - 42 points
7th Kurt Calleja - This Is The Night - 55 points
6th Gianluca - Tomorrow - 62 points

Inessential Breathlessly manages to beat two other entries!

If it weren't for the insatiably cheerful Tomorrow being awfully low considering the low quality of Malta on the whole then this would be good, none of the 4 below it are worth keeping so onwards!

Amber - Warrior
Chiara - What If We
Firelight - Coming Home
Ira Losco - Walk On Water
Morena - Vodka

is the Maltese top 5!

Posted by: J▲hq 16th July 2017, 07:42 PM

Aw that Takasa song for Switzerland isn't too bad, it could've at least done better than the dreadful "Time to Shine".

Correct bottom three for Malta, the rest are pretty interchangeable for me. I assume Ira will be in the top 2 and she is just about my favourite but out of the four countries this week, I think I prefer my other top picks.

Posted by: LexC 16th July 2017, 07:44 PM

I mean I love me some Il pleat d'Lor but not acting like I wasn't expecting that 10th.

Posted by: Iz~ 16th July 2017, 07:47 PM

ALBANIA

10th Eneda Tarifa - Fairytale - 30 points
9th Aurela Gaçe - Feel The Passion - 42 points
8th Adrian Lulgjuraj & Bledar Sejko - Identitet - 44 points
7th Hersi - One Night's Anger - 45 points
6th Lindita - World - 53 points

GREAT SUCCESS as with two 12s and a barrage of 1s, Identitet beats two out of the nine inferior Albanian songs to get into 8th place. I've developed even more love for it this week. World is a bit of a loss too but I guess it's rather soon.

The Albanian top 5 is:

Elhaida Dani - I'm Alive
Juliana Pasha - It's All About You
Kejsi Tola - Carry Me In Your Dreams
Olta Boka - Zemrën e lamë peng
Rona Nishliu - Suus

Posted by: Iz~ 16th July 2017, 07:54 PM

Finally, the main attraction for most people and certainly the least predictable nation, considering so many of their entries are loved: ICELAND

10th Sjonni's Friends - Coming Home - 36 points
9th Pollapönk - No Prejudice - 40 points
8th Eyţór Ingi Gunnlaugsson - Ég á lif - 44 points
7th Maria Olafs - Unbroken - 57 points
6th Svala - Paper - 64 points

Rather UNSURPRISINGLY, the three entries done by masculine (and mostly bearded) Icelandic men fill up the last three places (No Prejudice is a right anthem guys), followed by the least essential of the Icelandic pop from Unbroken and Paper.

Icelandic top 5, but which are the top 2 here?

Euroband - This Is My Life
Greta Salóme - Hear Them Calling
Greta Salóme & Jónsi - Never Forget
Hera Björk - Je Ne Sais Quoi
Yohanna - Is It True?

Posted by: LexC 16th July 2017, 07:57 PM

I was concerned Paper might have pushed out a better song because of its recentness but glad to see that's not materialised

Posted by: Iz~ 16th July 2017, 08:01 PM

For Switzerland, our top 2 are:

Sebalter - Hunter Of Stars
Timebelle - Apollo

Switzerland's best qualifier ignores the handicap of being a man and whistles straight to the final, with their most recent mourned DNQ in tow.

Anna Rossinelli - In Love For A While - 79 points
Paolo Beneguzzi - Era Stupendo - 73 points

----
Lovebugs - The Highest Heights - 60 points

Lovebugs are out but the other two are still in with a chance if they are the two highest scoring songs to not make it.

Posted by: Iz~ 16th July 2017, 08:06 PM

Malta top 2:

Ira Losco - Walk On Water
Morena - Vodka

Ira's return storms through the Maltese round with VODKA similarly having no trouble.

Chiara - What If We - 76 points
Firelight - Coming Home - 75 points

---

Amber - Warrior - 72 points

Though Warrior is out, the same unfortunately applies to Firelight & Sons as the current top 2 second chance shortens to Chiara and Anna Rossinelli.

Name and shame the other person who needs a ban from this forum pls

Lovebugs were great!!!! Damn. "Paper" isn't a major loss for me but I hope Hera is 5th because "Je Ne Sais Quoi" definitely isn't all that

Posted by: Iz~ 16th July 2017, 08:14 PM

Albania top 2:

Juliana Pasha - It's All About You
Kejsi Tola - Carry Me In Your Dreams

2009 and 2010 rep as the upbeat It's All About You and the epic Carry Me In Your Dreams get high points across the board.

Elhaida Dani - I'm Alive - 82 points
Olta Boka - Zemrën e lamë peng - 75 points
------

Rona Nishliu - Suus - 74 points

Bit of a shock to me as Suus is out with no possibility of return, but Elhaida has put herself into a very strong position as she takes the lead, with In Love For A While still in the mix in second place.

Now for Iceland, I can say that both the 3rd and 4th songs got 82 points or more BUT because Oliver voted only Iceland and not the other countries, I have adjusted those scores in order to fit in fairly with the rest of those competing for 3rd/4th places. Will that adjustment be enough to see Elhaida or Anna through against the Icelandic juggernaut?

Posted by: Jerick 16th July 2017, 08:16 PM

Suus didn't go through!?

It was me laugh.gif The song just holds sentimental value to me as it reminds me of my holiday to see ESC in Malmo in 2013, it was playing on loop in one of the supermarkets there <3

I'm gutted Lovebugs have fallen, was a #1 in my personal chart! Similarly, Era Stupendo was in my top 40 of 2008 and really should have gone further, gorgeous track.

Posted by: Iz~ 16th July 2017, 08:20 PM

Iceland top 2

Greta Salóme & Jónsi - Never Forget
Yohanna - Is It True?

*.* as the better Greta entry goes through along with the Icelandic runner up ballad by Yohanna.

Euroband - This Is My Life - 88 points (less 12s)
Greta Salóme - Hear Them Calling - 86 points

-----

Hera Björk - Je Ne Sais Quoi - 85 points

NOTHING in it. Nothing.

Adjusting those scores (by multiplying them by 11/12, as there were 11 voters who voted for all plus Oliver), we get 79 points for Hear Them Calling... and 81 points for This Is My Life.

Therefore your two wildcard qualifiers are:

Elhaida Dani - I'm Alive

and

Euroband - This Is My Life

Posted by: Iz~ 16th July 2017, 08:21 PM

And this is a summary of the qualifiers from this round:

Elhaida Dani - I'm Alive
Euroband - This Is My Life
Greta Salóme & Jónsi - Never Forget
Ira Losco - Walk On Water
Juliana Pasha - It's All About You
Kejsi Tola - Carry Me In Your Dreams
Morena - Vodka
Sebalter - Hunter Of Stars
Timebelle - Apollo
Yohanna - Is It True?

YAY

Posted by: gooddelta 16th July 2017, 08:27 PM

Hera </3 Euroband and Yohanna are great though and the Greta songs are both good.

Well now I'm conflicted heehee.gif

Heartbroken for "Hear Them Calling" all over again, but a massive yass at Euroband. Surprised that Albania have three entries through but "I'm Alive" is pretty great

Posted by: AdamAloud 16th July 2017, 09:05 PM

YAY VODKA *.*

Posted by: Oliver 17th July 2017, 07:10 AM

Thank Christ that me not voting for all countries didn't stop Euroband getting through! wub.gif

Disappointed at Hera Bjork not getting through. sad.gif
