2017 is the 20th anniversary for Steps and last night all their social media pages at midnight changed to say 2017 was the year of Steps.
They are apparently recording a new album.
DigitalSpy have done a story http://www.digitalspy.com/music/news/a817981/steps-reunion-2017-new-album/.
Will be interesting to hear what this "mature" sound will be.
I am SO ready for this They're doing new music so I'm very intrigued about what that will sound like.
The Ultimate Tour was brilliant. I'm not sure how I feel about new material though.
Yes they are making a comeback this year. I knew this 6 month back as I was staying in a house with there musical director (who has worked with them over all eras including H & Claire). They are recording a new album.
Id love to see them back if they come up with the right material, i miss the days of good chessey pop music.
Last summer I did have listens to some of the new music (Kirsten - friend of mine and their musical director - just composes and produces the music and not vocals) but some of the bare music tracks sound good. He is using Celine Dions Back to life as a template which he also helped work on.
Steps are wonderful. They know how to make people who enjoy pop music smile. It would be wonderful if the new album can do better than the Christmas album they released.
Apparently the new album is out April 21st and called 'Tears on the dance floor' its listed on Amazon. Excited to hear the new material now
Ooh, very Robyn sounding...
I'm glad we're getting a proper new/presumably final studio album from them. Ending their studio career with Light Up The World would have been a major letdown. The title track was the only decent song on the album.
Steps need to do an all out Pop Party on the new material. For anyone like myself who is looking forward to their new material i would be disappointed if they dont give us the cheese pop we have always loved from them.
It's called 'Tears On the Dancefloor'.
https://www.popjustice.com/articles/lisa-scott-lee-interview-we-said-its-twenty-years-of-steps-what-can-we-do-to-make-it-special/
Lots more good stuff here including the album cover *.* A throwback to Step One <3
http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/steps-announce-comeback-album-tears-on-the-dancefloor-to-commemorate-their-20th-anniversary__18407/
I must say I'm quite excited to hear the album. The roll call of collaborators - Ina Wroldsen, TMS and Steve Mac - certainly looks impressive. I'm particularly intrigued to hear their cover of Benny Andersson's "Story of a Heart" as I've loved that song for years. Like the great lost ABBA comeback single that never was!
From the outset it looks like they are really going for this, the collaborators list is impressive. I look forward to hearing the new material ( i really want to like it) and i hope they can pull this off and make a successful comeback. I really like the album cover.
Lisa continues to be an icon.
Excited for this era!
When will we get the full album tracklist? The title is sooo generic though. May as well call it dance like nobody is watching!!
Album Tracklist:
1. Scared Of The Dark
2. You Make Me Whole
3. Story Of A Heart
4. Happy
5. No More Tears On The Dancefloor
6. Firefly
7. Space Between Us
8. Glitter & Gold
9. Neon Blue
10. I Will Love Again
Bonus tracks
11. Scared Of The Dark (Wideboys In The Shadows Vocal Mix)
12. Story Of A Heart (7th Heaven Radio Mix)
Darren Hayes tweeted earlier that 'No More Tears On The Dancefloor' is a song of his.
I'm quite looking forward to hearing what they've done as they have certainly worked with some good names and been two years in the making
Definitely looking forward to this album! Cannot wait to stan for them all over again
Anyone care to make early prediction on how they think the single and album will chart.
I believe the album can easily go top 5 but am unsure of how the single will perform,it is likely streaming with crucify them.
#1 for 14 weeks. Album to outself Adele in 2 days flat.
Pre-ordered the signed CD today. This comeback is absolute slayage *.*
The comeback is going remarkably well and i hope it continues to build.Looks like the re-release of the Greatest Hits turning out to be a success was not just a fluke.
I firmly believe there is a place in the market for Steps right now as no-one does what they do.
Id love the album to get number 1, i was so surprised their re-hashed Greatest Hits nabbed the number 1 at the last minute when they reformed before and based on how the single is doing they could be in with a chance of getting themslves a 4th number 1 album.
For some reason i thought the album was out the week after next and up against Take That but im glad it not as i want Take That to get the number and Steps too but thought Ed Sheeran would block them.
I have a strong feeling they will go all out on promoting the album. Everything seems to point in that direction.
I've pre-ordered the blue vinyl of this off their website.
'You Make Me Whole' will be released as the first instant grat, tomorrow!
Track 2, so expecting good things!
*.* yassssssss. You can never tell by titles but it sounds ballad-y. Ready for Faye VOX to blow us all away
Looking forward to hearing 'You Make Me Whole' - expecting it to have a brief stint in the Top 40 at least on iTunes.
The one I'm most eagerly awaiting is their version of 'I Will Love Again'.
Excited to hear another track from this!
I am looking forward to getting the album and playing it aloud on my stereo. I hope my expectations aren't to high as i have something telling me its going to be a good album.
*.*
Sorry for the shitty quality.
Amazon also had 30 Second Clips of the album, but took it down
OMG not a ballad but DAT drop.
You Make Me Whole is available on iTunes AU.
Just downloaded it.
The verse is good and the bridge is fantastic!
I find the chorus melody slightly clunky and the drop is a bit generic, but it's a strong album track and a lot more 'relevant' sonically than Scared Of The Dark. Interesting to hear Steps on a production like this.
Not H and Lee getting actual lines in a song *.*
'You Make Me Whole' is pretty good. Generic but it is rather fun. It almost gives me Eurovision vibes in the chorus.
Not a patch on the 'Scared of the Dark' but it is definitely 2/2 so far.
They should announce the second single soon and have it added to new release schedules so people will be aware something is been released.
I just listened to 'You Make Me Whole', and I'm shocked to find it's a cover of this 2016 song by Anna Naklab (who you might remember from the 2014 hit 'Wicked Games' by Parra For Cuva):
I'm pretty fond of the original but like, it charted nowhere, I can't believe someone came across it and thought to cover it!
This is very much them trying to sound modern/current (well, sort of like 2013/2014esque) and not actually making a bad job of it!
I much prefer you make me whole to SOTD
Scared of the dark is brill, a total win. However the album clips and You make me whole sound terrible, like really naff. Sounds very 2000 Eurovision.
We should start hearing the line up of promotion soon. If they really go for it on promotion the album should get off to a strong sales start.
My problem with You Make Me Whole is that it sounds like they've received an instrumental and tried to put a vocal melody on top of it and not doing a great job of making it match the instrumental. I haven't checked out the original so maybe it's a problem the original has too.
'Scared of the Dark' is a 12/10 life-defining anthem, 'You Make Me Whole' is a 9.5/10 bop. The album is shaping up well so far, I can't wait to hear the rest of it! 💃
Yeah, 'You Make Me Whole' really feels clumsily produced for me! Disappointed in it. I'm not the biggest fan of Steps anyway (although I remember playing Steptacular a lot as a kid), but SOTD really got my hopes pretty high and I ended up being underwhelmed by this. Still curious to hear the full album, but that's all it is now, just curiosity for me.
I bought their "Ultimate Collection" today from HMV, was only £2.99, and 'It's The Way You Make Me Feel' is seriously pop ballad GOLD! 'Here & Now' and 'Say You'll Be Mine' are also other faves. But a lot of the production on the others I had no idea they were as badly "mixed" as they were. 'Heartbeat' was a fave of mine, but I don't remember the voices being as all over the place as they are on here! Some verses seemed slightly quieter/tinnier than others and the chorus just felt like it was recorded at a different time, to me!
We have been playing their Greatest Hits a few times in HMV where I work too and It's The Way You Make Me Feel easily stands out as their best for me! Stomp is one of the others to have aged the best as well.
QUICK. Before it's gone:
Even in LQ this album sounds FAB. Happy sounds HUGE.
LARA FABIAN COVER YASSSSSSSSSS.
Happy sounds like an absolute Eurovision reject.
I was secretly hoping Firefly was an A*Teens cover
I Will Love Again sounds like it could be great.
Previews of all the songs are also available on their official instagram page
It's all about Scared of the Dark, Story of a Heart and I Will Love Again for me at the moment. Claire's vocal on the latter's chorus is astonishingly good, and the chorus of Story...is easily the closest they've ever been to just becoming ABBA.
From clips i have heard there isn't anything i have heard that i dont like.
Story of a Heart is out and it's good. Hyped for the album tomorrow.
Promo -
Tonight - Live at The Palladium (SOTD performance)
Friday - This Morning (SOTD performance)
Saturday - All Round To Mrs Browns
Decent start to the album promo plus they have a HMV signing on release day.
My copy came in the post today *.* listening now and frankly, it's their best album to date.
I WILL LOVE AGAIN THO OMG
Lucky! Strange to think that they farted out that weak Xmas album five years ago and are now looking set to go top three with what sounds like the best pure pop album in many years.
I think Lee gets more solo lines on this album than he ever has in the past 20 years.
Parts of Firefly are very Into The Blue by Minoguey *.*
FIRELFY IS EVERYTHING OMG.
Slayed by every song on the album - they have come back with such a killer pop album.
Already #3 on iTunes.
Currently on 'No More Tears On The Dancefloor'... H's opening verse, has he got worse vocally, or is it me?
But so far, I'm liking this album!
He sounds like Cliff Richard.. wtf. Thank god he's barely on the album.
This album is quite Kylie meets Infernal!
'Glitter & Gold' especially is a lot like Infernal.
Early stand outs - Story Of A Heart, Neon Blue, I Will Love Again, Happy
My standouts are: 'Glitter & Gold', 'Neon Blue' and 'Story Of A Heart' (especially the 7th Heaven Remix!)
But overall, this album is pretty damn good!
#1 on iTunes currently!
The album is sounding great. Didn't realise I will love again was the song that Kelly Llorenna recorded Years ago
Wow, this album is wall to wall brilliance. What a comeback!
Wow was not expecting such a strong pure pop camp bop fest but certainly delivered love it
I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT SCARED OF THE DARK IN ALL IT'S POP PERFECTION ISN'T EVEN THE BEST TRACK ON THE ALBUM.
10 | Scared of the Dark (easily their best single yet, just perfection)
9.5 | You Make Me Whole (So very 2013-ish and works well)
09 | Story of a Heart (FAB, but i feel that the ending is a bit sudden, sounds like it is ready to go into another chorus)
10 | Happy (I love the way that it gets more batshit crazy as it goes on)
7.5 | No More Tears on the Dancefloor (The only one I consider a bit "eh" but still a solid pop song)
217 | Firefly (THIS IS THEIR BEST SONG EVER MOVE OVER PARADISE LOST)
8.5 | Space Between Us (Not normally here for the 2 guys leading songs but this is really good, nice to actually hear them having actual verses to sing)
8.5 | Glitter & Gold (Growing on me was one of the weaker ones initially)
09 | Neon Blue (just full of joy and amazingness)
10 | I Will Love Again (I truely believe Claire's voice is so magical that it could restore sight to the blind)
Top 3
Firefly
Happy
Scared of the Dark
Such a great album! 'Scared of the Dark' remains my favourite but it leads a very high standard of an album. 'Story of a Heart' is shining through as a key favourite; I think it would make a very strong follow-up single and being one of the first tracks as well as being made available pre-album seems a big sign that it will be. I was going to comment on how ABBA-esque (more so than their other songs) it was until I realised it actually is an ABBA cover!
Also, listening party here:
More promo tomorrow -
Interview on Radio 2
Album of the week on Radio 2
TV interview & performance on 'The Chart show'
HMV signing today too with seemingly unlimited entry! Plus HMV are selling the Greatest Hits for £2.99 so should give it a boost
No More Tears on the Dancefloor is really solid. I'd pick that as a next single.
In general this album is pure Eurovision...we must send them eventally. What a breath of fresh air for pop in 2017!
Okay, Glitter & Gold is SUCH an earworm, it keeps growing on me really just No More Tears on the Dancefloor that I am slightly less than stanning right now.
Neon Blue is pretty much Scared Of The Dark 2.0 lmao
Seriously I can't get over how good the whole album is - I'm amazed they have managed it after the disaster of 'Light Up The World'.
They have come a long way since then when their best promotion was a link up with QVC to try and sell the album for £15
COMPLETELY SLAYED BY 'I WILL LOVE AGAIN'
This Albummmmmmmmmmmmmmm omgggg
Everytime a song from this album comes on....
7th Heaven mix of Story of a Heart recharges my gayness.
An interview with Claire: http://www.hmv.com/music/steps-tears-on-the-dancefloor-interview
+ their manager Peter Loraine talks about their comeback here: http://www.musicweek.com/talent/read/5-6-7-8-20-years-of-steps-fascination-management-s-peter-loraine-takes-us-inside-steps-big-comeback/068206
I bought the album, love it! 'I Will Love Again' is just what I was hoping for.
I was hoping for 'Story of a Heart' to sound a bit more upbeat, but it's good so I'll get used to it.
Good effort, guys!
Excellent album, my favourites are scared of the dark, you make me whole, firefly, glitter & gold and neon blue. I will love again is the weakest track by far!
So excited that the album is going to be big - it's still #1 on iTunes and SOTD is #8.
The album is everything I wanted it to be and I'm glad they have managed to turn it into a success - their promotion has been on point so far and like I said before it's remarkable that they managed to pull this off after 'Light Up The World'
This whole album is fantastic but Scared Of A Dark, Story Of A Heart and Neon Blue are definitely my holy trinity, I've had all three on repeat. The latter is so good, it sort of sonically follows on from some of the stuff on Buzz, like Here and Now, or even some of the stuff on Scooch's only album. And yet it doesn't feel that dated, apart from maybe in a 2010 sort of way...the production style - not melody - is similar to Kylie's Get Outta My Way.
My rank of the album:
1 Scared of the Dark
2 Neon Blue
3 Story of a Heart
4 I Will Love Again
5 No More Tears on the Dancefloor
6 You Make Me Whole
7 Firefly
8 Glitter and Gold
9 Happy
10 Space Between Us
That was tough!
I've played the album multiple times already and Space Between Us has settled as being the track I'm least enthused about (even though it's cool to hear the guys sing more on this one). I still like it though - for me there isn't a single dud on this album.
Neon Blue is incredible! If there's a third single, I truly hope it'll be this one.
The midweeks are just
Tears On The Dancefloor #1
Ultimate Collection #16
Sacred Of The Dark #35 (And still Top 10 on iTunes)
Shame streaming will send them all down
Claire and H are promoting lots on Twitter and talking about how close Ed is to taking over.
They are on Loose Women on Wednesday - their promo so far has been spot on!
I hope they give him a run for his money. People are saying he has it in the bag I'm hoping they can pull a shocker out and just pop him to the post 🙌🏽
I really want them to get it this week, come on Steps, you truly deserve this!
They appeared on 3 news stations tonight - ITV, BBC and Channel 5.
Claire and Faye are on 'The Wright Stuff' in the morning too - they so deserve #1 for taking up literally every promo opportunity that has been made available to them!
Another signing would have been ideal to catch Ed Sheeran. 40,000 looks on lock for the album.
They'll probably end up about 10-15k adrift of Ed and I don't think any number of signings could overcome that, they've done their best and for a pure pop album to sell as much as it looks like it will is remarkable.
I just hope their sales don't fall off a cliff next week. I'm sure Radio 2 will continue to strongly support them, especially if it's true 'Story of a Heart' is the next single, which I'm sure they'll be all over, but what other promo, if any, do they have on the horizon?
Obviously #2 is still a huge achievement for them and so much more than any of us could have expected, so I am grateful for that, of course, but I just would like the album to have some surprise longevity, like even half the success Rick Astley's album had.
I don't think sales will drop away that quickly and it seems they will move forward with SOAH as it's already being added to streaming playlists etc.,
They always were one of the hardest working pop bands and the last week goes to prove it - they have literally done any snippet of promo they could.
I can't believe they are having such a successful comeback !!
Who would have thought ??? 😱
I think credit where it's due has to be given to Peter Loraine their manager. He pulled off the same feat he's achieved with Steps but with All Saints last year in bringing them back successfully, and it looks like he'll do the same with Bananarama later this year.
This is the man lest we forget who gave the Spice Girls their nicknames and fought Girls Aloud/The Saturdays' respective corners heavily whilst he was at Polydor. He knows his pop eggs incredibly well!
Almost everything has gone swimmingly well with this comeback, I'm made up for them! I'm particularly pleased that the album is hugely enjoyable (it exceeded my expectations) and that it's been well received.
The only negative I can think of is their lack of streaming, which has severely hindered the single's official chart potential. I wonder why 'Scared' wasn't included in Hot Hits UK for instance? Did it boil down to payola that they perhaps couldn't justify, or was it Spotify snubbing them for not being current? I'm not overly sure how these playlists are determined. I wish they could have at least had the chance to gain some casual listeners via Spotify.
Incredible achievement that they are #1 on actual sales!
SO surely that means we cna get half a naked Lee? Bottom half pls.
For them to sell new material is so surprising .
I get why they will sell out arenas .
They are the Rick Ashley of 2017
The tours are big business for them but its good they can still sell an album aswell.
Really loving Neon Blue at the moment.
Neon Blue is very catchy but No More Tears on The Dancefloor is the song that is stuck in my head since hearing the album. That said, there is so many excellent songs on the album.
Wonderful news for the album in week 2: it is midweek Number 4 on sales of over 8,000 so far this week.
I feel so proud of them on how well the comeback has been received and more importantly i am lucky to have an excellent pop album as part of my music collection. They have delivered an album that will in no way tarnish the reputation they had in their heyday for making guilty pleasure cheesy pop music.
Now the dust has settled I'd rank the album as follows (not including the remixes):
Incredible
1. Scared Of The Dark
2. Story Of A Heart
3. Neon Blue
Amazing
4. Firefly
Great
5. I Will Love Again
6. Happy
Very good
7. Glitter & Gold
8. You Make Me Whole
9. Space Between Us
10. No More Tears On The Dancefloor
I don't often get four songs that I'd rank amazing or higher on one album, this is Delta level quality *.* That top three are an incredible holy trinity, slotting right in with their highest quality singles amongst their best ever tracks for me.
I decided that the 7th Heaven Remix of 'Story Of A Heart' is my 2nd favourite thing they've done. (Nothing will top ITWYMMF for me)
Outstanding.
Also 'No More Tears On The Dancefloor' should be top 4!
WHY all the love for No More Tears On The Dancefloor? easily the worst one there.
For me the "least exciting" track is Space Between Us (to describe any song as "worst" feels too negative for this album, like Rich I think all the tracks are at least "very good"!).
No More Tears on the Dancefloor is great! Claire's vocals are sublime & it's nice to hear the guys take the verses!
I adore Neon Blue, it's already one of my favourite tracks they've ever done. In interviews they mentioned the great feedback it received, and some of them stated it was a personal favourite, so it should safely be one of the songs they do on tour! I hope so anyway. They also mentioned they were only considering including 4 or 5 songs from the album in the set list, with the main focus being on the hits.
The album remains number 4 in the chart update today with sales of 9,634.
How are people rating the album against all their previous albums. We could do an album rate or ranking if people were interested.
Solid third week performance from Steps, currently number 7 in the latest midweek chart information.
It would be amazing if the album could stay in the top 10 for another week.
It should stay at #7, maybe #8. If they get more promo in then they could stay top 10 for a while considering sales outside of the top 5 are so small.
I would greatly welcome for it to remain top 10, as this week would cement them having a month in the top 10 album chart in 2017. Further weeks in the top 10 would also be great.
#10 today
It has already achieved its 3rd week in the top 10, this would be its 4th if they hold.
This week will be its third as in tomorrow...
My mistake on the week in the chart,i was taking the midweek number 7 position as a stand alone week my sillyness!!
I was reading some reviews online of the album and in general it has great reviews which is great to read.
Tears on the Dancefloor looks in with a good chance of remaining top 15 this week based on today's midweek chart information.
Edit (May 19 2017, 05:13pm) - Tears on the Dancefloor is officially number 16
+ 'Tears on the Dancefloor' has passed 60k, silver certification level.
That's good for them and it's still top 20 so it should at the least manage gold.
A reissue at the end of the year with remixes and bonus tracks might help the album.
Yeah, I'd say gold is pretty much guaranteed at least. Fab!
Its doing well and the new single should help keep it selling. I wouldnt mind a re-release at a later point if it was done well. Ideally a re-release with a bonus dvd of the concert would be great.
The bonus DVD on a re-release would be wonderful. Steps are still very strong at selling out concerts so there would be interest in a DVD so it would be a smart way to get people to purchase the album.
I'd hate a re-release with a DVD, sell it on it's own. People who'd want the DVD would have the album already.
Not the best week for them based on the midweek chart information as Tears on the Dancefloor has dropped to number 27. In the last 2 weeks they have ended the week on a lower position than the first midweeks figure. I would hope they can pick up as the week progress and reverse that trend.
It's hardly that bad.
Yes to a point, but a 12 place drop is still sharp. Story of a Heart should help capture some more album sales for them.
The album should hopefully climb in the coming weeks, hopefully it will move back into the top 25 this week.
The end of week official position for Tears on the Dancefloor is slightly worse than the mid week chart predicted as it drops to number 29.
Edit (May 31 2017, 02:24 PM): Tears on the Dancefloor has a midweek position of number 31, remaining top 40 looks safe.
Tears on the Dancefloor still has potential to hang around 75-100 for a while I reckon.
Hopefully it does stay around, and im sure the tour will help it climb, for now its good to see it still in the top 40. It has already done so much better than most expected.
Nothing special in this album.
Tears on the Dancefloor was number 45 in this weeks first set of midweeks.
It's actually the best album they have done by far!
Tears on the Dancefloor is definitely my favourite album they've done so far, it's very consistent.
Thats how i often judge how good an album is, are any of the songs outside the singles good and with Steps they have passed that test on the studio albums.
Edit (Jun 9 2017, 07:23 PM): Tears on the Dancefloor is number 46 this week.
Edit (Jun 12 2017, 07:59 PM): Tears on the Dancefloor is number 60 in the midweek chart released today.
Steps making the Top40 earlier this year was my chart highlight of the year so far.
It's a mixture of that and the mid week number 1 for the album.
Seeing Scared of the Dark with an Official Top 40 entry was the chart moment of the year, the iTunes number 1 was so great to see too as was the album doing so well. To sum it up Steps, are the chart highlight for the year.
In the first midweeks for this week Tears on The Dancefloor is currently number 66.
They should release Firefly
They should just do a MJ Bad and release pretty much all the songs as singles.
Album up to 32 in today's mids yay
Great to see the album climbing, number 39 today so I hope it can stay top 40.
While it's great to see the album climbing im disappointed with number 51 this week as it's 19 places lower than it was at the start of the week. Good to see the ultimate collection on the rise too.
Each single will help keep the album in the charts.
To be fair, the album is doing good,it's still well ahead on sales over "current acts"such as the chainsmokers.
The album will manage Gold status which is great for them. I would believe sales will increase again when the Tour kicks off.
It would be wonderful if they stay together and release another brand new studio album in the next 2 years.
Disappointed with the midweek chart as the album sees a huge drop this, after a fairly steady chart run a 40 place drop is a surprise.
Well, at that sort of level sales are a lot closer together so a few hundred sales difference can mean a massive difference in position. At this point it's all about accruing sales.
Accuring sales is very important. With sales, it is likely 100 sales could change a chart position within 30 places at the mid point of the week.
Shame it dropped out of the chart this week.
I'm sure it will return again.
By chance the album may appear on the chart this week or next but will likely not appear again until the tour starts kicking in.
A price reduction may help in these weeks to help attract sales.
Scared of the Dark would have got a much higher chart position had it had a cd single release. All in all the era has done well for them and they have done far better than i thought they would. I would be happy if the album eventually manages 100,000.
100,000 should be easily manageable for the album. At this point it has sold over 80,000. Neon Blue may help it back into the charts and the tour will attract sales in addition to the casual sales it will pick up.It is likely Tears on the Dancefloor will reach its Gold Status at the same time the Ultimate Collection will result in Steps achieving their 5th platinum selling album.
^ Tears on the Dancefloor is on just under 78,000 sales as of Friday / Ultimate Collection just under 267,000! Would indeed be nice if the tour can enable the albums to go gold and platinum certified respectively.
With the tour a while away, they should pick up sales at low levels until then to bring the sales up slightly. Ideally, they need to grab attention in the Q4 market to attract sales but the tour should keep their name out there.
If neon blue is promoted it will help album sales so between that and the tour and a few q4 sales it should get 100,000 eventually.
I'm hoping the album will climb again but looking at the midweeks it's still not top 100 despite album sales extremely low this week.
From the information we have received on sales in the top 5 albums it would indicate 1,000 sales would be enough to reach the top 100 this week. I would like to believe Steps would not be that far away.
Its chart run so far:
2 4 12 16 29 34 46 63 64 51 59 134 176 out 182...
It was out of the Top 200 for 1 week, and #182 is its most recent chart position. It's on the verge of 80,000 total sales.
That was a huge drop on its 12 weeks of release. That said, sales between positions 76 and 134 and was likely to be minimal.
I do think we'll get some kind of album reissue later this year. I am hoping for a bonus disc of remixes and extra material but maybe that's just wishful thinking.
I am disappointed not to see the album back on the chart. I really thought Neon Blue would help the album re enter the top 100 at the least.
the tour is probably the only thing that will help the album chart again,is it discounted anywhere?
Got the album for my birthday today. Just listening now...really great so far!
My review of the album up on my blog now: http://wp.me/p4UO9N-oM Think this may have become my album of 2017 with repeated listens! Not a bad track on it!
The album was such a fabulous return, i dont think that any of the fans could have been disappointed with the style they returned with. They stuck to their roots, stuck to what they were known for, stuck to what the fans wanted and yet modernized their sound to fit into the current market. In general i think it worked brilliantly.
Do you think we will get another brand new studio album at some point?
I'd say another album is more likely now that it's proved to be a hit, I'd hope so anyway.
Album chart run so far:
[1st Entry: 28/04/2017] 2-4-12-16-29-34-46-63-64-51-59-134-176-out

Apparently Gay Times magazine has said that Steps are currently choosing what to release as a 4th single, and it's between Glitter & Gold and Firefly! I'd prefer G&G
FIREFLY OR DIE
You Make Me Whole
Id Like Glitter and Gold, its good they are going with a 4th single as im surprised seeing the last 2 haven't done much at all.
I love Firefly, that really would round off a perfect era for me personally! But on other forums I've read everybody seems to mark it as filler so I'm surprised they're even considering it.
Would have thought Glitter & Gold would be the obvious choice, despite me not liking it as much.
I Will Love Again!!
Firefly would be an excellent choice. My 2nd favourite track from the album after scared of the dark.
'Firefly' and 'Glitter and Gold' are two of my favourites on the album so both good shouts for me!
They should just do a Double A-Side for old times sake
'Firefly' would be my pick out of those two, but there's not a bad song on the album so I'll be happy with anything tbh!
Sadly the doubt a side releases are a thing of the past.
Firefly would be a bad single choice. You make me whole or I will love again are the only two singles left on the album in my opinion
You make me whole would be the least song I'd like as a single from the album.
No More Tears on the Dancefloor would also have been a good choice as 4th single.
I want 'I Will Love Again'.
It is so good to see people picking various choices as a 4th single as it shows the strength of the songs on the album.
Am I one of the few that would like Happy as a single? If not, G&G is good too 😜
One of my really good friends who's a diehard fan wants 'Space Between Us', I don't think anyone's said that.
I agree, the fact there has been so many suggestions is a testament to the strength of this album.
At this stage between all the posters every song remaining must have been picked. Anyone think a re-issue of the album will happen based around the tour?
I think there will be a reissue. I read on another forum they have been back in the studio recently so hopefully we will get a few extra songs and maybe some good remixes. I think they will use the tour to re-promote the album to help it push over 100k which would be a fantastic achievement.
The album is being re-released with new tracks, to coincide with the tour. It has been rumoured for a while, but someone on another forum confirmed it. They've been filming something recently, so that may well be a video for a new track.
I'll wait for actual official confirmation, but that's amazing news if they are re-releasing!
Im happy about a re-release, if we get a few more songs, the rest will be remixes i would think but i would also buy the new version. I wonder will they release a Christmas single, id love an all out christmas pop style single from them full of bells and jingles.
This is great news, again, it is showing they are putting in all the effort to make this era as successful as possible. I think the album has already far exceeded expectations in both quality of music, critically and sales.
I'm wondering if they will do another album next year?
I would think it is likely, but, most likely a Q4 release.

Tears On The Dancefloor (Crying At The Disco Deluxe Edition)
Released: October 27, 2017
HYPE HYPE
The new single is very Scared of the Dark as well
Except not as good
But I'm glad they're still supporting the album with a re-release
What new single? And where can I hear it?
I thought we were getting a track from the original album?
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B075N2TZ6R;tld=uk
Also coming on vinyl, 2 discs *.*
I don't think any of my favourite artists have issued a vinyl for the original release & then another vinyl for the re-release, so that's cool!
Sooner than 2 weeks
I am excited for the additional cd on the new version.
I wonder if they have done a cover version of crying at the discotheque by Alcazar?
^ Apparently so! They've also covered Delta Goodrem's Dancing with a Broken Heart; a clip of the instrumental can be heard here: https://www.instagram.com/p/BZEGy37Hkuo/?hl=en&taken-by=officialsteps (which states that an announcement is coming on Monday).
Here's the artwork for the re-release:
Lee finally seems onboard with this era at least.
The new cover is nice, prefer the original but this is good too.
I have always felt Lee has always been on board much more so than H.
Steps covering Delta? *.*
My dreams have come true. Great choice of song for them to cover too!
I am so excited to hear this cover, and i would think could be a new single.
Wish they'd do original material instead of more covers.
I'm not too fussed about their covers apart from tragedy. I'd rather they do original songs. I suspect the additional material may end up being slightly inferior to the standard album as was the case with the Kylie Christmas reissue last year.
Covers ahve been a part of their thing since the begining though, so the fact there are going to be more shouldn't be a shock.
Last Thing On My Mind, Tragedy, Better The Devil You Know, Chain Reaction....not to mention the album tracks that were covers.
Apparently it's a cover of a delta Goodrems "Dancing With A Broken Heart"
It's not exactly a bad idea to cover songs that were hits overseas but never properly released in the UK.
Yeah nobody here is really going to know it's a cover
Its not a well known song, its a bit like when Kylie did On A Night Like this, no one really knew it was a cover.
I am so impressed by how much Steps are putting into this era. I hope the deluxe gets the album selling again, should be enough to see it get to a 100,000 total.
Pre order up on iTunes Australia.

5 new songs and a few new remixes!
We are not worthy of a Delta track now opening up 2017's best album *.*
Needless to say I can't wait for this, so much new stuff! I wonder if the remixes will be digital only though and won't appear on the CD?
A decent re-release then! Looking forward to listening to these new tracks although, call me picky, I'd rather they had been added at the end and not interfered with the original tracking list - I've been stanning the album so much that I'm so used to the tracking list! Who knows though, this one could be improved.
Not too sure on the new album cover - I know the only difference is the background colour but it's a very dull colour and makes the members look like cutouts. Perhaps it'll look better in physical form.
Bought the vinyl and the signed CDs bundle I'm now poor x

Pre-ordered the Faye version *.* SO excited for this.
Ready for a new 7th Heaven Remix :shakingcheeseblock:
I'm very disappointed the remixes are download only. Not sure I will be buying the CD again just for 4 more tracks.
Those tracks and remixes! And a 7th Heaven Medley *.*
Would've been cool if we got a solo song for the individual CDs
I am so tempted by that vinyl though
I would have preferred the remixes on an extra cd,download only for the remixes could cost them physical sales.
Love that they have 6 CD versions of the album plus the vinyl - coming for that multiple purchase #1
Once again, it looks like they are putting in the work to push the new edition. The multiple covers is a very clever idea, while i myself would not purchase all 5 different covers ( it will be a toss between Claire and Faye cover work which i will purchase) there are fans who will. The Vamps recently done this and it got them a number 1 album, however, sales dropped sharply the week after.
I find it disappointing the remixes are digital only. I really believe having the remixes included as a CD would attract further sales. The CD not including remixes makes me slightly begrudge purchasing the album again but no doubt i will to support the release.
The original album currently stands with sales of 83,000. This new version will hopefully ensure Gold status and push sales over 100,000. I would also think if they have promotion lined up in addition to the tour it will result in the Ultimate Collection making a chart return and help the album reach platinum status. At the moment it is not too far away from becoming their 5th platinum selling album.
I can see them doing Strictly this year for promo, really would make a lot fo sense.
Its likely they would get a slot on Strictly Come Dancing. I would welcome an X Factor slot too but the team at X Factor wont deem them relevant enough. Strictly is a better booking for the long standing established artists, X Factor look to book the in fashion artists.
That said, i would greatly welcome a Steps week on X Factor. Very unlikely i know
Indeed it would be a great theme as Steps have the ballads and the uptempo numbers so i think it would be wonderful, but highly unlikely.
I didn't think in 2017 I would have 8 copies of the same Steps album (Signed CD and Vinyl from the original release and just ordered the 5 band CDs and double vinyl).
Would love to see them snatch the #1 on the 2nd attempt but they are up against Stereophonic's and the George Michael album is out the week before so could result in a lot of interest? Just hope they have every promo slot possible lined up as they did last time.
I dont see this a number 1, it would be wonderful to see a Top 10 return.
I would have liked a solo song from them per album. If you buy the Faye cover you get a Faye solo song or a Steps song sung just by her, i think this would have encouraged more people to buy the various editions.
I welcome the work they have put in for this era, and it has paid off.
I don't see how there's any remote possibility of the album going to #1. The album has been out months, a large chunk of the people that bought it already won't buy it again and it's a much more competitive time of year. I'm expecting maybe a top 20 return?
If they get some good promoting slots and do signings i can see it easily going top 10 as it looks like they are going all out on this re-release.
I would find it intriguing to see how how many fans will actually buy all the different versions, and for those who do, will they purchase them on release week or purchase as they can afford them. I am sure they will also be a percentage that will wait for a price drop further down the line before they purchase.
i ordered them all.. oops.
Kye, how much did it cost to buy them all in total?
it was £47.90 for them all + delivery
For what you are getting, that is not a bad price.
Is their a discount when you buy all the different versions?
I've pre-ordered on itunes but not going to be getting a physical this time. I do take my hat off to them though for the determination to push this album to Gold status! Truly hope they do it, then it's time for the next one!!!
I've tagged mine on itunes as Crying At The Disco rather than TOTD (CATD deluxe)
Wish they had put them in a different order this time lol, Faye should be in the middle! Anybody here talented enough to switch the guys and then have Faye in middle with Lisa and Claire on each side? Mine is just a cheap paint job
Also if anyone can tell me how to attach images i will upload mine.
I've kinda managed to do it on paint! If anyone wants the cover just let me know how to upload
https://imgur.com/a/rtfhR
It's not working?
^ Use the "Direct Link" URL!
Well that's the best I can seem to do...
Ps it is a paint job so don't expect anything
Is this the first Steps album to get a vinyl release.
Faye is doing the Tracks of My Years segment on Radio 2 next week
She might plug her version of her artwork album.
Deluxe CD is now £9.99 on HMV and Amazon which is a better price but still disappointed the CD omits the remixes.
Good price for the deluxe. I also agree about omitting the remixes from the actual cd, it is disappointing.
Steps are performing on Strictly on Sunday 29th October! http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/proginfo/2017/44/strictly-come-dancing-the-results Amazing promotion for them!
As it's the Halloween show isn't it probable they'll perform Scared of the Dark?
Strictly is a great performance slot for them and a great album plug.
Yep it's been confirmed that their Strictly performance will be Scared of the Dark
That is such a mistake! They should push the new song give people incentive to buy the album.
According to a poster on Popjustice, Strictly requested Scared of the Dark, because it thematically fits in with their Halloween special.
I don't think it's a bad idea. The vast majority of the viewing audience will probably never have heard Scared of the Dark before, and personally I think it's a better song than the current single - so I reckon it'll have wider appeal/connect better. I would imagine Steps are focusing on this appearance being an opportunity to open themselves up to a new audience / or people who remember them, but have somehow overlooked the comeback/the album so far. Scared is arguably the best song amongst their new music to be able to do this the most effectively!
I usually dislike it when artists 'waste' big promo slots with non-current singles but I'm definitely supporting the decision to perform 'Scared in the Dark', largely for the reasons stated by Jay. Steps aren't going to be getting a proper hit single anyway so I'm thinking this more of an opportunity to give the fans another fantastic performance on a huge platform of what is largely considered the best song off the album. It's also a good opportunity to remind people of the song who may have enjoyed it at the time of release and encourage them to seek out the album in the run up to Christmas.
Poor Steps - when they released 'Scared Of The Dark' Ant & Dec had them on Saturday Night Takeaway performing 'Tragedy' and now they have released 'Dancing With A Broken heart' they now get invited to perform SOTD on Strictly!
Still excellent promo for them and will give them a great album boost
A performance slot on Strictly is not to be sniffed at, ten million viewers of whom loads will not have even realised they've returned.
Scared of the Dark is the best song for them to perform IMO. The Strictly dancers will take attention away from them so it needs to be all about the voices, the sound quality and the music.
A performance of scared of the dark is unlikely to capture much new interest in their re-release. I think most people who the album will appeal to will already have it and they would do better to perform a new song from the reissue but not that terrible "dancing with a broken heart".
Official Charts interview with Faye: http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/steps-faye-tozer-interview-another-steps-album-none-of-us-are-against-it__20808/ "Another Steps album? None of us are against it"
Yaaaaay, never leave us again Steps!
Shame Steps are not really doing full on dance routines this era. I’m guessing it’s because they are going to focus / have been focusing a lot more on live vocals for the current music industry which makes sense.
Dancing with a broken heart has become my third favourite of the era I love it. I loved it from the start but I don't know Delta's version so had nothing to compare it to. To me it's like a brand new song.
1. Story of a heart
2. Scared of the dark
3. Dancing with a broken heart
4. Neon blue
Those are my four top tracks of the era. They have released every single one as a single! Such good taste guys
All songs are strong and excellent choices of singles. Had they been released in the olden days they would have all been sure fire top 5 hits for them.
1 Scared of the dark
2 Neon blue
3 Story of a heart
4 Dancing with a broken heart
Previews of September Sun and Fool for You are now up on Instagram
It's a shame the singles haven't been big hits as they are all good. While we know they will never have a hit they have done so well since the reform.scared of the dark done great to get top 40 but it deserved so much better.
Scared of the Dark done amazingly well to reach the top 40 and also reach number 1 on iTunes.
The new tracks on the reissue are definately not as good. Bit disappointed. Not sure if I will even buy the reissue.
Definitely all over that 7th Heaven medley/megamix. It's so good *.*

I'll be interested to see what effect Strictly has! Performance is in two days time.
I am very excited for the Strictly Come Dancing Performance.
This wasn't in my local Sainsbury's annoyingly, will have to get it elsewhere. Shame the Amazon CD doesn't come with an Autorip, it seems the only way to get hold of the CD version and the digital version with all 24 tracks is to buy it separately both physically and digitally!
Anyway, I am listening on Spotify and the new tracks are a mixed bag - Fool For You is a bit of an average autotune affair, Beautiful Battlefield is nice in a Steptacular album track sort of way, very late 90s style filler! September Sun is rather good, a similar vibe to Paradise Lost from Buzz. Dear Santa is a really nice festive ballad, expected something more fun and upbeat from the title but it's rather lovely nonetheless, I can see why it's not on the CD version though. The new tracks certainly make the album a lot more varied sonically and more like a classic Steps album I guess, which is good.
I will be buying a copy of the new version as soon as i can. It is hard to predict where this will make its chart entry.
I bought the vinyl from Amazon, which DOES come with an AutoRip.
I will purchase direct from the Steps website if it also includes the download for the same price.
I heard the new tracks, I'm going to pretend they don't exist and keep the original album in its marvellous existing form.
Hope they slay on SCD - it should give the album a decent boost and SOTD has been reduced to 59p on iTunes which should help it pick up a few casual sales.
Steps were awesome on Strictly
https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6ddcrl
They slayed it, lets hope we can see the single rise now,
SCD has helped here in Ireland. Scared of the Dark has climbed to number 90 on itunes.
^ Hopefully it’ll encourage physical sales! The original version is #39 on Amazon, deluxe is #43. Original is £5.99 currently.
Absolutely loved the Strictly performance!
It was a decent perf, and I get the vague Halloween connection but they would have been better doing DWABH IMHO.
(Also only Claire appeared to be singing live but that’s none of my business )
BBC specifically requested they do SOTD though, they're not gonna say no and throw that massive promo slot away..
The album re-release is top 5 in the midweeks from reading the chart thread. With such a strong start and promotion running through the week a top 10 return looks on lock.
Top 10 by the threads looks on lock.
Number 6 officially in the first set of midweek chart information today.
It looks like they will stay top 10 which is great.
Went to their CD on Friday. #NoShame
I have a slight worry the multi format release may result in a large drop next week. That said, i would believe the album is on track to sell 10,000 plus this current week and i would assume one of the goals of this campaign is for them to achieve a Gold Status selling album which is now on lock.
I would hope the album remains top 8 when we see the up to date midweek chart information tomorrow.
Number 7 today so im sure they are safe to stay top 10 now. I really hope it doesnt have a huge fall next week. Overall though the comeback album has done well for them.Im still a bit surprised by how well the album has done generally.
Officially #8. They sold 11,136, bringing their total to 96,697!
Brill result, at the top end of my 8-10 prediction and good that they have enough clout to get a re-release of an album into the top 10, particularly considering Light Up The World went never went anywhere near with just the one release. Yass at being so close to gold status too
Great result for them and the album will be gold next week if it can hold up.if not the week afterwards
Awesome for Steps, gives them another week in the top 10 too. Glad gold is a given now, just a shame they could sell a few hundred more to get it to Gold this week, would have been a double celebration for them.
I'm personally really impressed with them I didn't even see the album going top 10 nevermind battling for #1 and going Gold! When you think Zayn Malik hasn't gone gold and he had that massive #1 single while Steps only have a (superior) #37 hit off of it with none of the others charting...
Tears on the Dancefloor has dropped to number 29 in the first set of mid weeks released yesterday. I at this stage would settle for a top 30 position at the end of week.
'Tears on the Dancefloor' will be Gold certified this week! As of today, it has now sold 100,379.
Not sure if the deluxe was released here in Ireland as it didnt enter the top 100 here at all
Disappointing that they are down to #58 in today’s mids - thought they would hold on a bit better than this, they need some promo but there is not much left for them to do tbh.
The album is falling fast since it returned to the chart in its deluxe form.
The tour should attract sales. That said, i did also believe they would hold on better than they have so far.
Id be hoping with the Steps tour we will see some level of album traction on the back of it. With the tour and also recent promotion i am little bit disappointed the Ultimate Collection has not made a return to the charts.
The album continues its sharp chart decline this week, down to number 65. It would be wonderful if the tour stabilizes the sales for the coming week. At the least, the album is officially certified Gold.
The album slides to number 87 in the midweek chart today. It appears this may be its last week in the top 100 unless sales start picking up.
I wouldn't be too concerned about how their album performs from here on out! A #2 peak, a return to the Top 10 with a re-release, and has gone Gold! Including the past three days of sales, its current total is 102,355.
They've done incredibly well with it, particularly when you consider their circumstances. Firstly, this was a brand new studio album from a 20 year old pop group, which was a risk. It was self-released (they're technically an indie act!). Only Scared of the Dark made a slight ripple, chart wise - so it's quite something to be able to shift 100k of an album in this day & age, without at least one major hit attached to it. Also, they've managed this sales total despite very little streaming support. A lot of modern artists' album totals are hugely boosted by streaming data.
I think it's safe to say that things have gone perfectly for them, and Steps themselves have said the reunion has completely exceeded their expectations in every respect! Any more sales for their album at this point is a bonus. Their initial thought to mark 20 years was to perhaps do a one-off gig at the Royal Albert Hall and leave it at that, but what has happened is a 22 date arena tour (which has gone down a storm with fans, and has achieved positive reviews!) and also a 17 date summer tour next year.
As a long-time fan I'm so pleased with how they've done! I never anticipated they'd do another studio album, and for me it's their best to date.
Jay, i am in full agreeance on everything you said in the post.
The album has more than exceeded expectations and they have managed to sell more albums then what are seen as more relevant acts such as Zayn and The Chainsmokers which is remarkable. I had just some hopes of the album selling a little stronger during the time of the tour and i naively thought the tour would slow the decline.
That said, the comeback has been a huge success and probably will result in (fingers crossed) us getting another new studio album from them. They have worked so hard to make this comeback a success and it has truly paid of for them which i am extremely happy about.
Holler!!! Preach!!! Jay jay jay!!!
Faye said they are open to recording a new album too they are just seeing this era through then they will discuss what comes next. I can’t see why they wouldn’t tbh it’s the best thing to happen to them careers wise in years.
I always feel like people overestimate how much a tour affects album sales. I mean, those attending are likely to have purchased the album already.
Valid point but for many artists they climb the chart the week of a tour. The hike is short lived but effective in the short term.
Steps are in a very lucky position to be still able to sell out tours as this really is where they will earn their money. This successful comeback also helps them keep their profiles alive and make them more lucrative candidates for reality shows etc.
Is anything on this album as good as / better than Scared Of The Dark?
The album is very worth much purchasing. Scared of the Dark is the best song on the album but as previously said, that is because its an excellent slice of pop. Neon Blue, Story of a Heart and Tears on the Dancefloor are just a few other amazing songs on the album. If you have purchased a Steps album before, this certainly wont disappoint.
What sort of Boost did the Strictly performance give 'Scared of the Dark' on iTunes? I was in the process of moving house at the time so couldn't follow it.
Two versions of SOTD climbed into the 101-200 area, but sadly the top one didn't have the power to get into the Top 100!
Ultimately it sold enough to re-enter the sales-only chart at #86. So not a particularly good boost, although presumably the promo was beneficial for the album!
The album is at 86 this week.
It's well passed gold so any sales from here on are a bonus,I really want to get the live cd when it comes out
The album is number 91 this week (so far) lets hope it can stay in the top 100 for at least this week.
I half expected them to release a Christmas single but looks unlikely now.
I finally got the album (deluxe version) and it's just great! I was never really into Steps, back then I prefered S Club 7, A Teens or ATC more, but since there are no other pure pop acts around these days, I just enjoy Steps' new stuff. Biggest surprise on the album is "No More Tears On The Dancefloor". I liked the original, but had already forgotten it. Never thought anyone would cover it and Steps' version is so much better than the original.
I never knew it was a cover version. It's interesting how the comebacks of steps and s club 7 have gone so different,I think steps have truly surprised everyone with how successful their comeback has been.
Im hopiong to get a sales update on the album soon as we will be getting the best selling album post in the chart thread in the coming days.
The album should be close enough to 115,000 or 120,000 i would think at this point.
Hopefully when the sales kick in online and in shops, if the album gets a good price reduction it may pick up some further sales.
All in all, i think we can say the album campaign has been very successful for them and its success has surprised everyone.
It had sold 110,711 as of 22nd December!
thats still a great result for them.
Well done for Steps, pretty incredible that their album sold over 110,000 (so far), especially when you look at acts like Zayn Malik who had a huge #1 single and yet only managed 60,000 copies of their album (very Victoria Beckham dah-ling). What's even more impressive for Steps is that pretty much all of their copies are physical sales and not streamed sales, if they had the streaming power of current acts their sales would surely be a lot higher.
I hope this inspires them to continue as a band and record another album.
I am sure they are inspired to do another album as the fans want it to.
Its great they thet managed to outsell what is seen as current acts such as Zayn. The Chainsmokers were also another group with big singles but Steps outsold them too so they did very well. And a valid point about all physical sales in large, streaming hampered them in every way so all things considered they did so well. Most importantly, its a great album so it deserved the success.
I would be both shocked and disappointed if they don't have at least one more brand new studio album.
I do think it will happen for sure if im honest. After that, it will be it, with the exception of a new style Greatest Hits.
Did anyone grab a copy of the Guardian yesterday there was a magazine with a Steps article in it. I really wanted to get it but didn't have time to go to the shops to buy one...
I wonder is the Tears on the Dancefloor era now fully complete?
I can't really imagine them shelling out to release another single.
It would have been great, although still not too late for them to get an Audience with Style of Show. I think it would make great viewing.
Why do that when the era is over? Talk about bad marketing.
The momentum of their comeback could stall after this campaign which is why i would see no harm at all in one last push.
The era has been over for ages, people have moved on, it'd be a waste of time and energy and ruin a perfectly decent promo spot for the next album if they do one
An audience with Steps would be a fantastic way to push the next album if they do one! I really hope they get offered something like that now, I think after the positive reaction and nostalgia around them it's not beyond the realms of possibility. Lulu got one afterall and she hasn't had a hit of her own since the 70's.
I would greatly welcome such good promo for the next album which i believe will come. This era has shown there is still an appetite for Steps. If they can once again come up with strong material a new album could do well for them and of course an audience with style show would be a great benefit in selling the album.
Scared of The Dark, i am enjoying this track more and more. I almost prefer it now to when it was released.
I feel it is a song that will age well and forever rank among one of their best singles voted by fans.
I liked their interview on This Morning but why did Eamon and Ruth spend so much of the interview speaking about their own hotel habits?
The re release keeps them in the charts for at least another while, hopefully they will start work on the new album soon.
All 4 singles will be released in a special box! You can (pre-)order it at their official site. So happy they did this https://store.stepsofficial.co.uk/products/tears-on-the-dancefloor-the-singles-collection-4-cd-box-set-signed
In other news:
-The album remains fantasic.
-Stomp and The last dance recently reached silver status.
What a fantastic idea.
This is exactly what fans such as myself will enjoy.
I am thrilled to hear this.
Released today!
Pre-ordered my package and it was here in the afternoon. It felt like old times when Steps releases were send via mail. #fangirlmoment
I've just ordered mine aswell, fair play they really have thrown everything behind the album, and this is a nice way to finish it out. They seem to really understand what their fans want from them.
Do the single sleeves have the dance steps on the inside?
Always liked that.
Don't know but I'd think they will. From a sales point of view where will count does anyone know or what chart if any is it eligible for?
The inner sleeves don't have dance steps printed, unfortunately! That would have been a nice nod to the past, ha.
I received mine yesterday - it's a nice item! Some would say it was a waste of money, but there's lots of remixes on there that I didn't have already, and it's just lovely to experience owning brand new CD singles from Steps - for the first time in 17 years.
Some people received theirs with smudged autographs / smudged pen on the back (and someone even had Claire's autograph missing, unfortunately), but mine is in great condition.
Is it limited edition?
Received mine today and Lee and Faye's autograph were all smudged.
This aside, it is such a great package.
Didn’t expect the singles box set to count towards the album charts! Currently #23 in the mids - incredible that Steps can basically sell the same set of songs to us over and over
Although I’d expect sales to be very low for the rest of the week hopefully this can make the Top 75.
Truly surprised to see it appear on the album chart.
I would be truly happy for this to achieve a placing in the Top 100 on Friday.
I’ve only just found out about the remixes collection. There are no left on the website so ordered one from an EBay seller. Just out of interest, how much was this being sold for on their own website?
they were £24.99 + £4.99 postage
If you are a fan it is worth the purchase and lovely to have.
I paid £42.99 including postage, I was expecting it to be about £15 on their website so that’s not too bad I guess.
Does anyone know how many copies they had to sell?
At least there is enough available so that it stands a chance of making the chart.
Did not expect to see this in the charts at all. I still think a cd single especially for scared of the dark would have got it a far higher peak and same for the other singles too.
Scared of the Dark could possibly have made the Top 20 if the CD single was released on impact week.
Sadly, it’s sold out on their store now but there are a few copies on EBay!
If they could press more its likely they would sell.
2000 sales so quickly shows the demand is there for the release.
If we account 500 were sold internationally, the 1500 remaining would be enough for the release to stay in the charts on Friday.
Number 38 in the midweek chart released today.
If it's sold out it means the album will drop and drop unless they get some regular album sales but they should have enough to chart this week.
1100 for the last couple of weeks has secured a Top 100 place.
Sales look low this week so 1000 sales would likely keep them within the Top 100.
Fingers crossed, no more than with kylies golden,it's the first time I bought multi formats for a few years but I did so with the albums from both Kylie and steps and have loved it.
I like the way Steps have phased the releases, we have had 4 different versions since the release between:
The Original
The Deluxe
The Live Version
The Singles box-set
This is the first time Steps have taken that route.
That said, re-releases/deluxe versions weren't as common back then as they are now.
Ya it's the first time they have done a rerelease and it's worked great for them.
The album/release has not entered the Top 100.
I am slightly disappointed as i was almost certain it would achieve a Top 100 entry this week.
That's a shame - it has entered at #106. Oh well! It sold 1,032 copies, which is how much it was shown to have sold in the early midweeks - so not having any more copies on sale was its downfall. It needed 40 more copies to be #100.
So almost half the availability was sold outside the uk,shame it missed the top 100 by so little.
If more copies were available they would have sold and the album would have entered the charts.
That said, i doubt chart glory was something they were aiming for with this release.
The release was very much for their loyal fans.
It was def a release for the fans but i still would have liked it to have entered the Top 100.
Surprising so many copies sold to fans outside of the UK. I think they underestimated the interest in this (and CD singles in general) - it’s something so many fanbases of pop acts want and will spend ££ on getting (Steps, Kylie, Take That etc.,)
As this release sold out so quickly, it clearly shows the appetite for such releases is strong and more copies would have easily sold.
The last campaign so well and it connected with people and especially their loyal fans.
They in my opinion they couldn't have returned with anything better than they did with both Scared of the Dark and the album itself.
I love scared of the dark but prefer neon blue.
I still think neon blue is better than scared of the dark but still think scared of the dark is also great. I also like story of a heart way more now than i did when it was released.
Neon Blue is hard to beat.
The song deserved greater success as a single.
Back in the day when they were a singles act both scared of the dark and neon blue would have been at worst top 5 hits and same for what the future holds.
Both are stellar songs but I partly feel Neon Blue should have been the lead single. That said, it would have done no better than Scared of the Dark.
Tears on the Dancefloor was released 4 years ago today! That time has flown by. When you think their original run from their debut single to splitting up was also 4 years... 🤯
What are your favourite memories of this album? Which songs do you still love? Favourite videos/performances? Please feel free to share *.*
That's a fast 4 years, the album was great from first listen but neon blue I had on endless repeat for ages as I loved/love it
4 years ago their new album is much better though so eh.
Wow, 4 years! That has flown by. I remember being super excited about it, obviously, but also was awestruck by it just being banger after banger after banger (SOAH aside!). Glitter & Gold was my instant favourite on first listen through, but Happy has emerged as my favourite of the album tracks since.
Whilst this is a great album I prefer What The Future Holds.
Scared of The Dark and Story of A Heart are up there with my favourite Steps singles.
Also on the deluxe tracks the only one that I really enjoy is Fool For You. The others are ok but just miss the mark a little for me.
Story of a heart initially I didnt see why everyone was loving it and it took a while for it to click with me but I love it now and dont really understand why I didnt initially like it much.
Is it just me or is September Sun like a slowed down 2017 version of Sumer of Love?
There is a hint of both in each song with Summer of Love the superior.
This album surprised me so much, I wasn't sure if I even wanted or needed new Steps material until I heard 'Scared of the Dark', but this album delivered such consistently high quality.
I associate the release and listening to the album a lot with where I was living and the job I had at the time, and it takes me back to that period when I play it.
Time for the next one! Will upload a picture for this later, but just putting this on here for feelers!
How does Monday 24th January at 7pm sound?
I should be around for that.
Sounds great, I’ll be around the following day or two to contribute.
Woohoo!!
We still up for this?
Let me know asap because… I need to get the YouTube videos ready!
Ready
Best get the videos lined up! Also message me back hun x
5 mins: Here we gooooooo!
1. Dancing With a Broken Heart
It doesn’t quite pack the same punch of an opener that Scared of the Dark does, and I’m not sure that this was the best choice to go with a re:issue with, but it does it’s job well enough I guess!
Dancing is alright. More an album track then a single release tbh. Video looks a bit weird.
Still, a 7/10.
2. Scared of the Dark
This really was everything I needed from a Steps comeback. They delivered such a bop and it paid off I think. Probably still in my Top 5 singles by them and that’s even with the BOPS they provided on What The Future Holds! I honestly cannot praise it enough. (Except for the mixing error in Faye’s bridge but that’s not THEIR fault!)
Indeed, what a comeback single! I died and went to gay heaven when I listened to it the first time. Campy in the best way without sounding dated! I only need a bit more of Lee vocals. Other then that..a true Steps classic!
10/10!!
3. September Sun
An odd placement in the track listing really for this one! I get Paradise Lost vibes from this and I would like to see it live so it’s a shame they’ve paid it dust. Maybe on an Anti-Tour? (Manifesting!)
I agree, very much a PL part 2! It’s nice, nothing more to say.
7/10
4. Neon Blue
I just adore this song. I don’t find it cheesy at all! As someone who has really, really struggled with mental health and acceptance, this really called out to me. Sometimes I get a bit teary listening to it, but in such a good way. We Stan progress!
Another great track! If only for the ‘come as you are, cause you’re great’ line. Uplifting song, uplifting video. Love every bit
10/10
5. You Make Me Whole
A fan favourite I believe? It never really grabbed me in the same way it did a lot of fans but I will say it’s very Steps and what they needed to do with this album!
Very nice as an album track. Upbeat and very Steps indeed. I love that they brought the Steps sound into ‘now’.
8.5/10!
6. Story of a Heart
A cute little song that I appreciated more at the time than I do now but I do love that it’s very Abba-esque although I guess that’s Benny and Bjorn’s influence on the track haha!
Their last single to chart in the UK charts. There are moments that I really enjoy this track and some moments a little less. Can’t really put my finger on it. I enjoy the involvement of Benny and Björn. And it’s an original song instead of an Abba cover.
7.5/10 for now!
7. Fool For You
I don’t really have a lot to say about this. I don’t really return to it and apart from the title, I couldn’t sing it to you anyway!
One of my least favorite on the album. It’s definitely not bad, just forgettable. The lyrics are also a bit cliché.
6+/10
8. Happy
I didn’t think much of this when it was first released but I adore it now! Love that Lisa gets her opportunity to shine and she also got a moment on the tour to deliver her line without the rest of the guys on stage! Love our queen of the Huns!
9. No More Tears On The Dancefloor
I think the boys leading this as opposed to the girls (well, Claire aside) does really well for this track! And I never say no to more Lee….’s vocals haha!
The vocals are more equally divided between the girls on the album. Still, not a lot of Lee though? And Lisa is not the best singer but I enjoy her vocals (I can hear her growth). So overal a nice album track that’s a bit repetitive for me at bits.
7/10!
Yes, another enjoyable album track! And finally some more vocals from Lee. I dig.
8.5/10
10. Beautiful Battlefield
If you asked me how this one goes, I wouldn’t even be able to hum it. I don’t know how they got it so right with the standard version of TOTD but most of the re:issue missed the mark - for me anyway!
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz…
Very boring…
5/10
11. Firefly
Actually quite a serviceable bop. Nice to give Lisa and Faye the lead after No More Tears… Former is better though!
A nice bop indeed. My main problem with it are the lyrics. A bit cliché and sound like written by a teenager. I know Steps lyrics don’t need to be deep but there’s a limit
7.5/10, for the music!
12. Space Between Us
This is the weakest of the original ten track album but even this is still a decent bop! We get more Lee finally!
Nice to hear more from the boys. Also, H voice doesn’t annoy me like back in the days
7/10!
13. Glitter and Gold
I love Glitter and Gold and loved that it got an outing on the Summer of Steps tour! Choreo was a bit… sloppy but we can overlook.
Yes! Another slice of camp that only Steps know how to serve.
8.5/10!
14. I will Love Again
I have to say I still prefer the original, even though I didn’t know it was a cover until I found out later. Nice original album closer!
I won’t include a Dear Santa YouTube video because… it’s a Christmas song, but we can talk about it?
Nice little Christmas ballad really. Better than most of LUTW but… that’s not difficult to do!
Used to love this track when the album got released. Maybe I played it too much as I enjoy it less. Still, a very solid album track.
8/10!
I do like I will live again but always picture it on the eurovision stage.
DS is cute but a bit out of place, especially on this album.
Thank you for joining along guys - loving seeing your thoughts
Thank you for hosting and sorry I was late joining.
Overal:
+ Sounding like Steps but not dated.
+ Hearing new material! Who would’ve thought after their split?
+ Scared of the dark
+ The vocals are more divided.
- The extra songs of the reissue are lower quality
- Some of the lyrics..
8/10
