I have a feeling Spurs are gonna win it next season, making it exactly 10 years since their last silverware!

Posted by: Mack 2nd July 2017, 04:16 PM

The draw for this was pretty messed up with the wrong teams being shown on the graphics, the live streaming sound going wrong where the draw was made in Thailand due to sponsorship.

Posted by: Flatcap 23rd August 2017, 12:50 AM

It was rather a mess from what I saw of it. Here's the second round draw (better late than never).

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40895331

Since this has partially occurred, Carlisle are out. According to the commentator at the ground for Sky, there might have been a good penalty appeal for Carlisle near the end of the match.

Finally an article on the possible devaluing of the League cup.

Great night for Bristol last night! Hoping both are rewarded with glamour (preferably televised) ties in the next round.

Going to Cheltenham tonight, we should win but given our form and characteristics this is a banana skin.

Posted by: Flatcap 31st August 2017, 07:46 PM

Here's the draw for the third round, better late than never. This particular round takes place 19th and 20th September.

Barnsley v Derby County (second round match) taking place on the 12th September. Original first round tie between Grimsby and Derby was abandoned after 19 minutes because of heavy rain.

Burnley v Leeds

No team talk needed on this one two players who were contacted to play for Leeds didn't want to
They can both expect dogs abuse which they will get

Liverpool out of the League Cup after losing 2-0 to Leicester. This could have been a very good chance of silverware for Liverpool so it's definitely a missed opportunity for them.

We don't have the squad to compete in 4 competitions. Shame to lose of course, but that's what happens when you utterly annihilate a team for 45 minutes and fail to put your chances away. Just massively unlucky tonight, hopefully Leicester completely lucked out. Much rather the 3 points at the weekend.

The draw for the fourth round has been made, matches will be the week beginning 23rd October.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/41342647

Arsenal v Norwich City
Bournemouth v Middlesbrough
Bristol City v Crystal Palace
Chelsea v Everton
Leicester City v Leeds United
Manchester City v Wolverhampton Wanderers
Swansea City v Manchester United
Tottenham Hotspur v West Ham United

Other news, Barnsley beat Derby County in the delayed second round match, delay explained in earlier post. Barnsley were beaten by Tottenham in the last round.

Posted by: HeadlessJockey 24th October 2017, 10:35 PM

Wolves becoming the first team to hold Man City goalless unfortunately they lost on penalties. First time this season that Man City haven't scored.

Posted by: ML Hammer95 25th October 2017, 09:21 PM

Tonight reminds me why I love West Ham!! Never saw that coming, what a result. I know it's only the League Cup but tell that to the fat off grin on my face.

Great to see Bristol City get through, hope for a big tie for them and for the city! The whole area will be buzzing if a top team comes to the West Country (Rovers fans excepted).

Posted by: Steve201 25th October 2017, 10:37 PM

Fantastic comeback from West Ham - didn't see it coming at all after the first half when they looked like they had given up on Billic!

Posted by: Houdini 25th October 2017, 11:32 PM

Hopefully this starts a mini downward spiral for Tottenham! A lot of strong teams in the quarter finals of this tournament, any of the teams could potentially win it.

Posted by: ML Hammer95 26th October 2017, 05:01 PM

Bristol City get Man United at home! No overtime for the Bristol police when that rolls around...

West Ham get Arsenal away so that's us out.

I'm sure United will park the bus after seeing the amount of goals we've scored in this competition so far... tongue.gif wink.gif

That will hopefully be a good match, Bristol City v Man United.

Arsenal v West Ham
Chelsea v Bournemouth
Leicester v Man City
Bristol City v Man Utd

Man City beat Leicester on penalties!

Posted by: Houdini 19th December 2017, 11:09 PM

Arsenal won 1-0 against West Ham as well. We could potentially have 4 of the big six in the semi final this year if Man United & Chelsea win their matches tomorrow. This competition used to be regarded as a joke and still is by a lot of people but by the end the top teams are normally still taking part. I would be glad if we retained this cup and another trip to Wembley for Man United would be nice, I might even try to get some tickets if we make it to the final.

Posted by: ChristmasEve201 19th December 2017, 11:26 PM

Yeh once you get to this point you may as well try and win a trophy - especially as the final will be as the European games return!

I still think it's a joke. The top teams are forced to play basically their B teams (or A-and-a-half teams) because of overscheduling of fixtures. I really think the League Cup needs either scrapping or removing the teams who are involved in Europe.

Posted by: Dobservance 20th December 2017, 06:42 PM

I don't fully buy that fixture congestion thing myself, given how much footballers/managers are paid they can't cry about "too many matches". Also if you want to be the best team you have to take loads of tough games across many competitions as part of the challenge.

Having said all that I wouldn't be too disheartened if if was scrapped, it is in essence just an inferior FA Cup. I wouldn't want it continue running without the teams in Europe though, as that would completely devalue the competition.

I hope this is the case - nothing I like more than a fixture pile-up for the rivals biggrin.gif I don't think it's a joke, but it is just an inconvenience. I mean once you're in the semi-final you play a two legged game just after the busiest period of the year - then the Champions League starts up again. And at this point you are playing near enough your best XI.

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 20th December 2017, 09:54 PM

Happy to be out the cup. I mean we should have stormed that match and it’s a f***ing disgrace we lost to a championship team but I cba going to the semi final and it’ll give us some rest for the important next stage of the champions league because I’d really like to make the quarterfinals in that

Posted by: Dobservance 20th December 2017, 09:58 PM

Ah well. Rather that than get annihilated by city in the semis...

Posted by: Houdini 20th December 2017, 09:59 PM

I'm not happy that we're out of this competition, that was a lacklustre performance from Man United and the whole match just felt uninspiring to watch from a fan point of view. Well done to Bristol City though, it was a well deserved win for them and I hope that they go on to win this cup now. I would much rather them than Chelsea, Man City or Arsenal.

Gonna have to rely on the FA Cup now for a trip to Wembley and for the most realistic chance of silverware this season.

Posted by: Rooney 20th December 2017, 10:02 PM

Would have preferred Man Utd to go through and it's a shame the football starts again soon as this defeat won't linger for too long!

Wonder which players Mourinho is going to throw under the bus...

Posted by: Suedehead2 20th December 2017, 10:28 PM

Scrapping the League Cup would also help to manage the gap in the 2021-22 season caused by the winter World Cup.

Posted by: Rooney 20th December 2017, 10:59 PM

Chelsea vs Arsenal
Man City vs Bristol City

Bloody brilliant draw biggrin.gif

Posted by: Houdini 20th December 2017, 11:01 PM

The FA might as well engrave Man City's name on the Carabao Cup now.

Posted by: ChristmasEve201 20th December 2017, 11:15 PM

The same could have been said for uniteds place in the semis before tonight!

Posted by: Dobservance 20th December 2017, 11:36 PM

I'm sure they'll beat Bristol over 2 legs but in a final they could easily lose to either Chelsea or Arsenal so still will be interesting to see how it all pans out...

Posted by: ML Hammer95 21st December 2017, 12:14 AM

As a proud Bristolian, I watched the game in the pub with over 100 Bristol City and Manchester United fans. Such scenes when Bristol City scored their winner, I was among them! They played so well and deserved their win.

So what if they fail against Manchester City, every other team this season has. What it does mean is another big occasion for the city of Bristol.

Posted by: ChristmasEve201 21st December 2017, 09:20 AM

Yeh exactly United fans saying they aren't fussed about being knocked out are talking nonsense!!

Posted by: Seinfeld 21st December 2017, 03:37 PM

I thought we played really well. Our passing and movement was sublime at times (both goals were great moves). The whole team worked their bollocks off and we wanted it more than United. We deserved to win on effort alone and justice was served after Pogba dived for their free kick.

I actually would have prefered Chelsea or Arsenal tbh as I've never seen either before and I think we would have had a slim chance against either. Manchester City will probably destroy us but it doesn't matter really, we've done so well to get this far! biggrin.gif cheer.gif

Posted by: Seinfeld 9th January 2018, 10:00 PM

Gutted to concede at the end but great effort by the lads. We still have a slim chance...

Should be proud though, City were excellent! Really took the game to Man City at times and more than held their own. Can't wait for the second game, the whole city will be buzzing.

Posted by: Dobbo 9th January 2018, 10:31 PM

Yeah great effort! Gonna be one hell of an atmosphere for the return leg and who knows anything can happen.

Posted by: MvG501 23rd January 2018, 11:30 PM

Again a great effort from Bristol City but not to be with Man City going through.

Posted by: Evil Houdini 24th January 2018, 10:34 PM

Arsenal win the Carabao Cup silver medal match against Chelsea 2-1. Chelsea were poor tonight and have ultimately suffered from the lack of attacking threat that they showed in the 1st leg.

Posted by: Steve201 25th January 2018, 06:55 PM

You must be happy Houdini!

Posted by: Evil Houdini 25th January 2018, 07:20 PM

Why would I be happy about that? it's not Manchester United that won.

Posted by: Dobbo 25th January 2018, 07:23 PM

Come on then Arsenal, make the Pep trophy brigade wait a few more months.

Oh right laugh.gif, the final is a lose-lose situation for me. I wouldn't want either team to win the cup but obviously one of them will win it. I'm leaning slightly more towards hoping that Man City lose but I don't think that will happen.

Posted by: Mack. 4th February 2018, 05:07 PM

I'll be hoping that Arsenal can beat Man City in the League Cup final and make Pep wait for a trophy.

Posted by: Evil Houdini 23rd February 2018, 06:49 PM

The final for this is on Sunday! Who do you think will win?

Until recently I thought Man City would be near certs to win this but I've got a sneaky feeling that Arsenal might win it instead. It depends how Arsenal will approach this match, if they approach it in the same way that they approached the FA Cup final last season then they will win but if not then City will win.

Posted by: Rooney 23rd February 2018, 06:59 PM

I suspect City will win comfortably but all in all I just hope it's a great game.

Posted by: Steve201 23rd February 2018, 07:09 PM

Yeh same here if Arsenal can expose a high city line with the speed of Aubameyang they could exploit the defence but would have to be better at keeping it tight themselves!

Posted by: Dobbo 23rd February 2018, 07:40 PM

This is football, Arsenal are so gonna win after their absolute embarrassment last night.

Certainly the result I'm hoping for!

Posted by: Mack. 25th February 2018, 03:00 PM

Man City to win probably 3-1 with a sending off.

Posted by: Steve201 25th February 2018, 08:29 PM

Well done City great win!

Posted by: Dobbo 25th February 2018, 08:44 PM

Yeah can't really begrudge them they absolutely dominated the match. Although one bit of trivia amused me that the 3 goalscorers were all non-Pep acquisitions.

Posted by: Mack. 25th February 2018, 10:59 PM

Not a great performance from Arsenal to be honest there. Was really hoping the game would be a lot more closer.

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 26th February 2018, 05:49 PM

Congrats to City!

Posted by: Rooney 26th February 2018, 08:30 PM

Arsenal's performance was not great, but City were much better.

The bigger travesty was Gary Neville's commentary.. he was so unprofessional. He clearly has a lot of built up anger inside from the Arsenal vs Man Utd days and it hurts to see them roll over to his most hated clubs!

It was wholly unprofessional of him, even justifying a crying kid for the point he was trying to make. Look Arsenal were garbage, but his commentary was absolutely terrible. 'Arsenal are terrible, Arsenal are a disgrace, this is disgusting' - offer some bloody insight instead of stating the obvious. He did the same when they capitulated against Liverpool, it's just unprofessional. He went OTT big time.

I don't see the big deal tbh. He was just being honest with his assessment of Arsenal's "performance". He might have been a bit over the top but he's passionate about the game. You could tell he was annoyed with the lack of fight and passion from Arsenal. It happens far too often with those bunch of pussies.

Yeah but he was annoyed about the lack of fight and passion because they gave up against one of his two most hated clubs. I just think it's wrong to do that live on air as a co-commentator, he's there to give us insight. He basically was Troopz on Arsenal Fan TV live on sky Sports. Pretty much turned in to the same thing he was slagging off a year ago!
