How I compile my charts:

With a few exceptions, I don't go out of my way to seek out new songs - I usually wait until I hear them on the radio. I mainly listen to Radio 1 and for this reason, most (though not all) songs in my chart are those which are played on Radio 1. I don't usually add a song to my chart until it's started gaining some airplay.

Songs generally tend to climb gradually as they grow on me, peak and then fall fast, so the chart looks similar to an 80s/90s singles chart. I also usually get bored of a song within a few weeks, so songs don't generally tend to hang around the chart for more than a few weeks - typically around 9 or 10 weeks for a Number 1.


This week's chart commentary:
* 'The Nights' climbs to #3 to provide Avicii with his 4th Top 3 hit on this chart, following #1 'Levels' and #2s 'Wake Me Up' and 'Hey Brother'.
* 'Doing It' climbs to #10 this week, which gives Charli XCX her 2nd ever Top 10 single on this chart, and Rita Ora her 5th.
* 'I Bet My Life' climbs to #6 this week and gives Imagine Dragons their second biggest hit on this chart, trailing only 'Demons' which hit #3 this time last year.
