BuzzJack Music Forum _ Sugababes _ Jade Ewen - Punching Out

Posted by: Juliano 25th October 2016, 09:10 PM

Beautiful voice, face and could dance.
As many of you may know, Jade Ewen scrapped her solo career and album to join as the newest member of the Sugababes, where after achieving 2 top 10 singles and about to release a 2nd album (8th as Sugababes) the girls unfortunately decided to call it quits. I was always hoping Jade would make a big solo come back, as she was a smash hit at Eurovision with her song "It's My Time" where she got the UK into the top 10 for the first time in many years, aswell as performing amazingly to get there! After she released the amazing Pop R&B infused "My Man", promo for the single was cancelled as she joined the group, however it remains to this day a forgotten pop gem. "Punching Out" was intended to be 2nd single and the name of the album, here is a preview of what it could have sounded like. Unfortunately the last we heard of Jade is that she had filed for bankruptcy, which as a big fan of her talent, is very upsetting. I am sure that Jade's solo career could have seen her become the UK's answer to Rihanna with songs full of Caribbean, R&B, dance and pop influences, as showcased here in this album demo.

I would have liked to see Punching Out, I Had Him First and Wake Up as singles.

I loved the two UK singles she had. Certainly a lot of potential and shame she didn't really break through as an artist.

I dont know much about her solo stuff (other than there was a video of her crying through singing Its My Time on Harry Hill's TV Burp)

Get Sexy by the Sugababes though was a bit of a guilty pleasure for me back in the day (the video of them in boxes iirc was great too)

I broke the replay button with both of those songs! And I want her version of Wake Up at my funeral... Nadine Coyle made a demo for it for her debut album too.

I always thought it would have good song for Pixie Lott as well, but to me Jade's is so beautiful!

Punching Out is such a tune, I always forget about it laugh.gif It's My Time and My Man are both great too, I wish she had a big solo era instead of joining Sugababes tbh!

I used to properly love 'My Man' back in the day (and I remember 'I Had Him First' as well).

It's clear to see she was never gonna make it as a solo artist though, I can't blame her for accepting the offer to join the Babes during the release week of 'My Man' even if it ended up being a sinking ship.

There are some bangers... originally the whole album was written by Jade and Ina Wroldsen, I believe only 10 songs for the actual album were written/recorded. She had songs she recorded before such as "Got You" and she has some newer songs that are floating around too.

Doesn't she play Jasmine in the West End version of Aladdin?

Loved Jade as a solo artist. If I remember correctly 'My Man' only got an half arsed push as it was already confirmed at that point that she would join The Sugababes? (I could be totally wrong).

Didn't realize she had filed for bankruptcy - I suspect that is a direct result of joining The Sugababes and everyone wanting to recoup the investment in the band/album.

It happened and was announced during 'My Man's release week.

'My Man', 'I Had Him First', 'Punching Out', 'Wake Up' and 'Burn It Up' were all fab.

Would have loved to see the solo album to have been put out there at some point.

And I remember that everyone thought Jade was replacing Amelle at first, as she didn't turn up during early About A Girl performances.

She was fab and deserved a lot more solo success!

Did she ever record "Let Me Be Me" by Jessica Mauboy, since she has a writing credit on it?

As much as I really hate the fact that 4.0 even happened, it did. As such this thread belongs here: http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/Mutya-Keisha-Siobhan-and-Sugababes-f32.html

Please move mods

Is it true that Nadine Coyle was asked to revocal most of these songs....and she said no?

She did record Wake Up, but to be honest it might have done her a few favors.
