With Ball & Boe returning to no1 with the follow up to last years Christmas no1 album it made me realise we are at the beginning of the Q4 gift buying season when album sales explode in comparison to the rest of the year and this week the whole top 5 nearly broke 20k copies - who will be the challengers for this years biggest selling Christmas release?

I've put Ed Sheeran - seems fitting ending as the year started and Perfect is only growing at radio/in the chart!

Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran and Ball and Boe will probably make up the top 3 with a Taylor and Pink definitely within the top 10. I think Sam may grab it

Good question. I’m honestly not sure.

I think Sam Smith looks the best option out of that list at the moment.

I agree possibly Little Mix if their promo / new single take off. Otherwise Ed Sheeran, I can see him doing Perfect on the XF finals.

I went for "other" just coz I'm a Litle Mix stan. Butttt... in all honesty, I reckon it's between Ball/Boe and Roy Orbison tbh.

Tough call this year, went for Sam Smith but not overly confident, seems wide open

Out of what I've heard, hopefully Gregory Porter

Paloma Faith could be on the list although it's released pretty early to make it.

I didn't realise LM were releasing another new single for the repackage, maybe should have added them. Surprised so few believe Taylor Swift will do anything, she's clearly released to challenge!

Of course we don't know the Christmas specials that will enevitably be on the weekends after XF ends which always have a big effect and also wonder if these BBC specials with artists will continue to be on on Thursday nights?

I'll take a stab at Roy Orbison.

Who voted for Sir Peter Tong? I added them because the last one sold so well and it's released in December - could be a January sales No1!

Hard to call really, Sam Smith will sell consistently well as he's had a far reach of appeal with his previous music. I reckon the top three will feature, Ed, Sam and Alife and Michael but could easily be any of them. X managed to have huge sales off the back of TOL but given that was his breakout appeal to a wider audience and was on the level of SOY success wise, I'm not sure if Perfect will manage the same impact.

I can't see Taylor really being a challenge if her singles/buzz songs are anything to go by but think she'll easily be top 10. She's never been that big in the UK for starters and LWYMMD hasn't exactly been a massive hit like SIO or BS were.

It feels like this year is going to have overall bigger Xmas period sales than last year. So it might be a bit more exciting. Which is good.

Wouldn't that be in the compilations chart though?

I'd argue that breakthrough was 'The A Team' lol tongue.gif Of course 'Thinking Out Loud' was his biggest hit to that point but he had already been an absolutely massive name among all audiences for a long time before that.

I voted for THE THING in this poll but not so sure now as its first week sales are looking surprisingly lacklustre according to Minty.

I assume it's the follow up to his album from last xmas which was no1 on the artist album chart!
