She might as well put them out for free, considering how much she's flopped.

Or she could make them successful if she releases them as collaborations with other artists (preferably with them as the main act).

Posted by: d__ 17th February 2014, 11:11 AM

I dunno... she did nothing for "Do What U Want"?

Posted by: mr_aly 17th February 2014, 11:37 AM

It went back up to #12, but the song was dead by that point anyway.

Even the queen of features couldn't save the Titanic. sleep.gif

I'd love her to be back on top with a great album. Not sure I'm here for that kind of project though, it's quite scary actually.

Could be a good way to keep herself visible between Say Something smashing and the next proper album. Clearly the public are more here for Restraintina anyway.

The thing is, it's hard enough for her to get attention around her proper album releases, so I fear it's only going to make people less and less interested in new material if she gets one new song out every week.

OMG I pray for an actual Britney v. Christina moment.

Battle of the need-drugs-to-cope queens.

Posted by: slowdown73 17th May 2016, 11:50 PM

Sadly, she won't do well with anything now. She's been and had her time and is pretty much overlooked now.

Posted by: Davidson 8th February 2017, 06:38 PM

She just posted an Instagram that she is putting the finishing touches to her album.

I'm so ready for some Christina in my life. Serve me another 'Your Body' plz.

Apparently the lead single is due to feature Demi Lovato ohmy.gif

Posted by: danG 14th March 2018, 10:17 AM

If that's true it could very well contend for 'screechiest song of 2018'.

Posted by: ubɹǝɯbƆ 29th April 2018, 09:14 PM

Seems like a Demi collab is definitely happening!

(Whether it’s the lead or album track)

Posted by: ubɹǝɯbƆ 29th April 2018, 09:18 PM

In fact, here’s the supposed track list. Bolded is the lead.

Sick of Sitting
Like I Do (ft. Anderson Paak)
Twice
Maria
Masochist
Unless It’s With You
Pipe
Deserve
Right Moves
Accelerate (ft. Ty Dolla $ign & 2 Chainz)
Fall In Line (ft. Demi Lovato)
I Don’t Need It Anymore

Posted by: No Sleeep 29th April 2018, 09:55 PM

YESS OMG!! Finally something's happening, I've been listening to her a lot lately.

I'm a bit disappointed the lead features Ty Dolla $ign and 2 Chainz tbh dry.gif But I suppose that might help it get her out there again

Posted by: Blond 2.0 30th April 2018, 09:35 PM

Yes finally can't wait to hear Accelerate yahoo.gif

Posted by: Theo. 2nd May 2018, 02:15 PM

The single is in fact premiering tomorrow at 1pm BST. Looking forward to hearing what she comes back with, "Your Body" remains a huge tune but I'm not expecting anything as in your face as that.

Posted by: Liаm 2nd May 2018, 02:19 PM

I have no idea what to expect tbh, it's also produced by Kanye West apparently laugh.gif

Posted by: Jordan Lee 3rd May 2018, 11:16 AM

Accelerate has leaked on Twitter unsure.gif

Not classic Christina but with the features I can see it doing OK on streaming sites.

It’s a mix of Stripped / Bionic Xtina but it’s not lead single worthy.

This song and video is a hot mess!

Posted by: blacksquare 3rd May 2018, 12:20 PM

This is so left field for her

Production is incredible and the song is all over the place. I think I love it

Posted by: Liаm 3rd May 2018, 12:38 PM

Wtf was that lmao

Posted by: Midge 3rd May 2018, 12:43 PM

So I think Xtina and Louisa Johnson are on the same wavelength right now.

Posted by: blacksquare 3rd May 2018, 12:45 PM

I genuinely can't stop listening to it - so different for her, so slick. I haven't liked a Christina lead since Dirrty

This is going to be so divisive though and I get people not liking it - the structure is all over the place, melodies aren't really there, it's somehow a laid back racket

This sums it up well laugh.gif It's not dated or anything but it just kinda feels like a forced attempt at being all Beyonce self-titled thought out and it comes out as pretentious and really not her.

I don’t see how it’s pretentious really? I like that Xtina seems to have passion for something now and doesn’t care about dividing opinions.

My only criticism is that I wish it had more Christina!

I agree, the song itself isn't terrible - just a little too long - but the visual is so forced and hard to believe it's how a 37-year-old mum of two wants to come across.

Anyway, she's confirmed the title of the album is 'Liberation' and the full tracklist:

1. "Liberation"
2. "Searching for Maria"
3. "Maria"
4. "Sick of Sittin'"
5. "Dreamers"
6. "Fall in Line" (feat. Demi Lovato)
7. "Right Moves" (feat. Keida & Shenseea)
8. "Like I Do"
9. "Deserve"
10. "Twice"
11. "I Don't Need It Anymore" (Interlude)
12. "Accelerate" (feat. Ty Dolla $ign & 2 Chainz)
13. "Pipe"
14. "Masochist"
15. "Unless It's With You"

Out 15th June.

Posted by: Jay ☆ 3rd May 2018, 01:36 PM

My first listen on Spotify had me a bit "wtf", but after the second listen with the video I feel more favourable towards it. I agree it's very left field though, and I'd be amazed if it did anything beyond some first week hype in the US.

I'm liking her newfound minimal make up look! Quite a nice album cover.

Loving the glitchy and eccentric production, this is considerably better than I was expecting.

All things considered this is a pretty great comeback single wub.gif

Posted by: Scene 3rd May 2018, 04:28 PM

Loving it atm! I agree with whoever said its her best lead since Dirrty. I'd love it if this is the year she made a triumphant comeback.

Lead single ranking

1. Dirrty
2. Genie In A Bottle
3. Accelerate
4. Ain't No Other Man
5. Not Myself Tonight
6. Keeps Gettin' Better
7. Your Body

Posted by: Selena GoHome 3rd May 2018, 05:44 PM

it's awful. it sounds like fergie's attempts at coming back and trend hopping but put through a xtina blender. xtina always takes things that are roughly happening trendswise, gives them a go but during the process STRIPS it of all subtlety and tact. that's how we got your body (which i love) and not myself tonight - the product of trend-hopping maximalism. if it's not a gay-centred trash anthem it never seems to go well for her, she always needs to make something thats a little tongue in cheek.

I think the opposite. She has nothing to prove at this point - she's aged out of the machine.

I much prefer when artists realise they're free to experiment when they're past mainstream success. You really can just do what you want (good and bad) and see what happens without that pressure. I wish more would do it.

This to me feels like she's trying to prove something. Like, attempting the kind of 'arty' urban a lot of current artists are doing.

It doesn't seem mainstream at all to me - just look at the reaction on here.

This is so different for her - my point was if she wants to try something more 'arty' with 808s then she can. She doesn't have much to lose.

Album pre-orders have no impact on the songs chart.

I've only had one play of this so far and it was a total mess. I didn't really have any expectations after the last era was pretty bland beyond a couple of tracks but I had hoped she could at least bring something better sad.gif I'll stick with it and hope it grows.

Song is kinda lit tho.

I hope this is a campaign again!! Bionic and Lotus well weren’t bad albums by any means for me but the campaigns both ended so prematurely which is why their chart runs were so quick. The interviews sound promising for this so far any UK promo will do for me! Hopefully a top ten peaking album too or Is that too optimistic unsure.gif

Posted by: liamk97 4th May 2018, 12:07 PM

Hard to know what I think about this! laugh.gif I do like the song, although I can see why others have issues with it and I can definitely understand criticisms of the visual and vibe she's trying to go for. I think it would go down better if she was a new artist and we didn't have a discography full of songs that have the Christina stamp we know and love. I agree with blacksquare that it's exciting when artists have passed their mainstream success and are able to experiment a bit more, but I think this might be too much of a change for people to take, idk.

Pink released in 2012 and 2017 though. So typical of you to attempt to make any thread one about her though, keep up the obsession.

This is pretty crappy though. The video is cringe and she seems to lack any self awareness. It’s such a shame because she was so untouchable 2002-2007. I was watching videos for Ain’t No Other Man and Candyman yesterday and she really was owning everything back then.

The video she posted today ‘Wheres Maria?’ sounded promising. She mentioned that when you start to get comfortable you have to then start again from scratch. Im hoping she’s re establishing herself as a Popstar now especially as she said she wants to show her kids what she does. Please UK promo would just be amazing! yahoo.gif

At least she's charting tongue.gif

Posted by: liamk97 13th May 2018, 11:58 PM

I'm firmly in the love camp with 'Accelerate' now. I've really taken to 'Twice' as well; a gorgeous, emotional piece and I'm liking Christina's more restrained approach in her vocal delivery. She brings out that signature raspiness further into the song but it's still very controlled and it allows me to really feel the emotion of the track, as I sometimes find her tendency to 'oversing' can spoil the mood.

I was a little unsure how the two tracks were meant to be from the same album but, looking at the tracking list and seeing two interludes titled "Liberation" and ""I Don't Need It Anymore", I realise that this is likely an album of two parts.

This seems to be a little try-hard at times. The little glimpses of seeing the words come from her mouth, it comes across much more candidly, but the more monologue type voiceover feels like someone doing a jokey impression of Lana Del Rey. It just feels a little off.

QUOTE(liamk97 @ May 14 2018, 12:58 AM) *

The narration reminds me so much of Kesha in Praying right at the start.

Probably only by a few places.

(If you're talking about the UK).

Sorry! Yes I did mean UK wise I may be optimistic here but last weeks #10 album sold 7K. But this is her first album in six years and streaming will probably be mean she’ll enter lower combined but than just her sales only position. I just hope we get UK promo and it’s not just US promo as This will easily be her best album since 2006 for me.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 15th June 2018, 12:06 AM

1/2 Unless It's With You / Maria (can't decide between these)
3. Fall In Line
4. Masochist
5. Twice
6. Deserve
7. Pipe
8. Like I Do
9. Accelerate
10. Right Moves
11. Sick of Sittin'

My initial rate of the album off one listen! It will probably change over the coming week but Maria, Unless Its With You and Masochist where the clear standouts for me from the non single/promo-singles.

Anyways I always love Xtina's album intro's and interludes she really is queen of those. I feel this is like her least 'signature' Xtina album however. There's no like HUGE vocal moment it's quite stripped back which I sort of like in a way. I feel a bit like when I first heard Leona's I Am with this actually they have a similar kind of vibe.

Short album for her too but I do think the quality is quite high and there's no bad tracks just some I connected with less.

So in short it's quite low-key and different to what I expected but it does have it's moments and I can appreciate that it's different.

7/10 for me based off one listen!

Come on Xtina and us Fighters lets get Liberation to chart higher than Lotus.

Posted by: gooddelta 16th June 2018, 05:28 PM

It’s a decent album, on par with Lotus probably but that had much higher highs whereas this album is more consistent. But there is no hype and it’s not even being sold in the supermarkets (I couldn’t find it in Asda or Sainsburys at least) which isn’t going to help at all.

Am I right in thinking that Lotus leaked before release? I have a copy of it in my folders and the actual CD.

At the time it came out I was SEETHING that Blank Page wasn’t given single treatment.

Yes, Floptus "leaked" before release, like most albums do.

The album bombed on it's own merits though - it's like when Cyndi Lauper released Bring Ya To The Brink - album that deserves success, but since no one is interested, well... Your Body bombed and the album bombed.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 18th June 2019, 11:42 PM

I think promo / lack of public awareness is a huge part of why her last two albums didn’t do too good outside the US.

You could even say the same about Bionic too tbh I know that went to #1 but it’s iconic second week drop / Chart run was probably not what she wanted.

I’m hopeful this tour will ensure she gets back the drive she had for promo with her first three albums whenever X7/ CA7 comes along

*shrug* People tend to compare everyone to Madonna when in all honesty, having her chart run is pretty unique. Most artists aren't like her and Christina's career turned out to be more like Cyndi Laupers. If anything, her albums still going top ten/forty is decent enough.

With that said - she better do Hurt instead of a gospel song.

Posted by: dannjohn 20th June 2019, 08:49 AM

tbh you can't blame promo in the US... i mean i know for the last album she dedicated promo to the Voice only but it still has a large audience and she performed tracks from it like every night

Posted by: Jordan Lee 7th November 2019, 05:45 PM

I listened to this today and it’s definitely a better than Lotus as I said a few months ago it’s much more like album and feels like it’s more natural to her and it’s probably more consistent than Bionic too but with less high highs. This sort of feels like a natural follow up to Stripped laugh.gif it has a a throwback type sound but not a dated one. She deserved so much better with this album!

Unless It’s With You is so lush heart.gif

Deserve is my favourite but Pipe has really grown too. Did we ever find out who XNDA was it’s strongly rumoured to be Lewis Hamilton but was never confirmed. It’s a really underrated album though I was hoping it might re enter the charts with the UK tour effect but feel Stripped will probably have the biggest effect as that album has all her signature stuff on it minus Genie.

Posted by: SamJudd 7th November 2019, 07:18 PM

To be honest I haven't listened to this album as of yet because I simply weren't impressed with the singles "Accelerate" was an awful comeback single - too much going on & yet not enough at the same time if that makes any sense, & feels like its building towards something, then NOTHING... "Fall In Line" was very forgettable, even the promo single did nothing for me.

Haven't been excited for a XTina release in a long time, her last couple of albums "Bionic" & "Lotus" - just weren't up to scratch (the former had some decent moments) but overall very MEH!. So don't think I'll be checking out "Liberation" any time soon...

Posted by: Jordan Lee 15th June 2020, 03:05 PM

Two years old already!!

This album is still kinda fresh sounding whilst throwback sounding at the same time for me. I love her voice too id say it’s perhaps her most underproduced album in terms of her vocals.

The album still kinda flows really well. I don’t think it has major standouts the way her other eras do but it doesn’t have much major lows either. I keep thinking this would’ve really worked as a Stripped follow up laugh.gif

Anyone yet to rediscover this album Id definitely suggest a listen to this! Nina it’s a shame you feel that way I do kinda get where you’re coming from but I’d say one strength Xtina has is that she’s quite versatile and if you listen to her albums none are really similar to one another so whilst you may not like the sound from one era another one may be more for you. For me this is definitely better than Lotus and I’d also say it’s more cohesive than Bionic although like I said previously it lacks major highs but it doesn’t have any lows it’s like solid throughout.

Posted by: Slick 15th June 2020, 03:19 PM

I'm not a huge fan of this album, however I got to see her live in New York (!!!) when she was touring this, so it will always hold special memories for me.

My faves are 'Sick of Sittin', 'Deserve', 'Twice' and 'Unless It's With You'. Her voices SHINES on a ballad.
