In order to celebrate 30 years since True Blue, this thread will collate the many different photoshoots and interesting visuals from the era. It had a very distinct aesthetic revealed through the album artwork, so here's a chance to look back at how the era and its tour was fully painted and photographed *.*

Please feel free to share your own favourite images from the era and comment on any that are posted biggrin.gif

We start with the ICONIC album cover, one of the most instantly recognisable images of Madonna and the real face of the album and its era.

I think in terms of photoshoots, that is the absolute most recognisable and iconic image. In fact, it could quite possibly be THE most; certainly holds its own against the conical bra, the Like a Virgin wedding dress, the Vogue pose etc. It's just so simple but it implies so much. Really striking and self-assured. Love it!

It's probably my favourite image of her alongside some of the Ray of Light promotional shots! I have a thing for her being in this ecstasy, euphoric pose like everything is washing over her and she's just FREE. It's such a stunning image wub.gif

Alongside that, there are these images also taken from the album photoshoot.

All the shots from the True Blue album cover sessions are stunning, but you can see why the final version was chosen.

I absolutely agree that the Ray of Light album cover photoshoots are among her best. I also love the ones for her debut and Bedtime Stories. wub.gif

Away from the album cover, the era spawned 5 singles. Here are the single artworks:

They're not amazing lol. The 'Open Your Heart' and 'True Blue' ones are the most interesting imo.

For the first single, the visuals were a stripped back cinematic affair. Madonna almost looked like a Hitchcock Blonde in the 'Live to Tell' video!

Liam hit the nail on the head for the album cover - striking and self assured is exactly what it is!

I like the single covers. They're not amazing, no, but they look nice and compliment her image from the time, which is all I really need from single covers.

The second single, Papa Don't Preach was a totally different look to anything she'd done before. She became a boyish, charming and innocent persona with cropped short hair and none of the glamour audiences were used to.

This was coupled with shots of a more Marilyn Madonna showing the dichotomy and power struggles with the singers' identity throughout the song.

A phenomenal video made all the more so, through its visuals and aesthetics. Capture any moment, freeze it and you have an iconic moment of Madonna's history <3

For the third single, the title track from the album, Madonna returned to being a doll-like blonde bombshell. With striking make-up and hair she whimsically controlled the camera and sang of true happiness among the blue~ Iconic again and very vintage but not the best look from the era for me personnaly!

Both the 'Papa Don't Preach' looks are my favourites. Completely unassociated with her look a year prior but done with such conviction that she pulls it off without separating herself from the person she was with her previous look, and of course she looks gorgeous.

The less said about 'True Blue', the better. At least it seemed she was just playing a role with that look.

For Open Your Heart Madonna was both the blonde bombshell we love but also a sultry, dark, seductive temptress. I love the dichotomy of book looks and how flawlessly she rocks all the looks. WHAT A VIDEO

In the final video for the era Madonna turned up the HEAT wearing this scorching red latino inspired dress as she took us to a paradise far, far away in La Isla Bonita.

What a look <3
