Omg wtaf I'm still catching up, I feel so bad for Taylor rn sad.gif

Someone make this a separate thread plz it needs to be discussed more as it's such an issue in the industry, I can't as I'm on holiday x

I've split the topic!

A few celebs have already spoken out in her defence!

Justin Bieber has responded on Instagram.

QUOTE
Hey Taylor. First of all i would like to apologize for posting that hurtful instagram post, at the time i thought it was funny but looking back it was distasteful and insensitive.. I have to be honest though it was my caption and post that I screenshoted of scooter and Kanye that said “taylor swift what up” he didnt have anything to do with it and it wasnt even a part of the conversation in all actuality he was the person who told me not to joke like that.. Scooter has had your back since the days you graciously let me open up for you.! As the years have passed we haven’t crossed paths and gotten to communicate our differences, hurts or frustrations. So for you to take it to social media and get people to hate on scooter isn’t fair. What were you trying to accomplish by posting that blog? seems to me like it was to get sympathy u also knew that in posting that your fans would go and bully scooter. Anyway, One thing i know is both scooter and i love you. I feel like the only way to resolve conflict is through communication. So banter back and fourth online i dont believe solves anything. I’m sure Scooter and i would love to talk to you and resolve any conflict, pain or or any feelings that need to be addressed. Neither scooter or i have anything negative to say about you we truly want the best for you. I usually don’t rebuttal things like this but when you try and deface someone i loves character thats crossing a line..

He seems more interested in defending his friend/manager than Taylor being able to own her own music...

https://twitter.com/PopCrave/status/1145543941317648386

Former OWNTV president and Big Machine board member Erik Logan slams Taylor Swift in lengthy posts: “You’re the real bully. Your power is fading, your shine is dull and this is what bully’s do, they lash out - especially when they are called to stand in their truth.”

Mess

What he did was a dick move in the first place. Remove that IG post all you want, people have seen it, spoken up and now that you're being called out for it by the person involved, you're playing the victim. Get over yourself! Ugh.

I'm 100% on Taylor's side with this. Not just coz of the whole Scooter thing, but I'm so shocked to learn that her (and so many others I assume) can't get access to theor masters so easily when really, they should be able to at least be given the option to buy them first.

Posted by: UltraME! 1st July 2019, 01:04 PM

Every response from Big Machine, Scott, Scooter's clients etc are honestly getting worse and worse with their responses, I actually can't with some of them 😡

Scooter's wife can f*** off too

Scooter's wife can f*** off too

Her tweets are embarrassing.

It's pretty horrible seeing all of this unfold so publicly. sad.gif I think the thing that's bothering me more than anything is people like Demi Lovato, Justin, etc all jumping to the defence of Scooter claiming he's the nicest person to have walked the earth - but completely ignoring the actual problem. I'm pretty sure they'd feel exactly the same as Taylor if this was happening to their life's work (although I guess they don't understand the concept of true graft and artistic integrity~)

So was she given the opportunity to own her masters or not? Was she made aware beforehand or not? Someone is lying...

Posted by: Liаm 2nd July 2019, 11:05 AM

I'm really baffled as to how anyone can not be on Taylor's side here, regardless of how people feel about the rich man who gave them a chance or more likely holds their career over them :') Same with everyone who always has to be bring it back to "but Taylor's a snake!1!!", it could be, idk, Cardi B or Chris Brown and I'd still think the same, it's their work really and to not even have the chance to buy the rights.... Especially when, for example, she single handedly wrote the entirety of Speak Now and co-produced it ALL.

She was given the option to WORK for her masters, one album at a time. (So for every new album, she'd get an older one back). There was no option for her to outright buy them.

She was made aware of a sale being made, like 5 days before. I assume she didn't know who to (due to NDA etc...)

Why Sia why?

Posted by: Jonjo 2nd July 2019, 12:15 PM

Tbf, I DO think Bully is maybe a bit too strong a word for Taylor to have used against Scooter. If it was Biebs (for posting it with the intention to hurt someone) I'd understand it a bit more.

But I feel that stuff is overshadowing the REAL problem that Taylor is getting at here.

Apparently she had an option to buy her masters but she decided to walk away, even said there 'more important thing than masters in big picture'.

So I don't know what to believe. I hope she's not playing a victim because she's being label as one on social!!!

Taylor should do a JoJo and just re-record them and own the new masters, hehe.

I do feel for her but unfortunately this situation is far from unique and although I support her going public about this, it does seem she hasn't been entirely honest about things. I suppose what makes this story more interesting is that Taylor was the labels first signed artist, and although they've since signed some big key country artists, Taylor would have always been the top money maker. And those masters will continue to make the label a great sum of money over the coming years.

Of course, Taylor's current record deal will be one of the most favourable in the industry so it's swings and roundabouts.

She had an option to earn her masters back for every new album she produced for Big Machine. That meant 6 new albums to own the masters of the 6 albums she's released already. That's manipulation

Posted by: Calum 3rd July 2019, 08:28 PM

It's all just a vicious circle really - I'm assuming she wouldn't own the six new albums she would've made to buy back the masters for the first six? Thinking someone's buttoned up the back or what? laugh.gif

I'd assume she would've licensed her music to Big Machine to stay in control of the masters of her new music.

In all honesty, I don't get the big deal - they funded those recording sessions, her career and put a lot of work to put her on the map. She's not stopped from performing the songs, she's not stiffed from earning money from the songs and she could even re-record them if she likes. She just doesn't control the original recordings. Yes, on some level I'm sure that's upsetting/annoying, but it could be a lot worse. She walked away from Big Machine with a networth of $350 million, some people walked away from their record labels completely broke and earning nothing from royalties etc. I don't think Big Machine did her dirty.

THIS.

Big Machine don't owe her a THING. She signed a deal. Her label delivered & made her a star.

Most artists don't own their master recordings. What's her problem? She seems in love with playing the victim lately. She needs to calm down. rolleyes.gif

Well... I’m sure a lot of people will download the music that has been re-recorded... especially because of all the controversy... so I guess it was pretty clever really $$
