Sarah Harding for #1!

She was played immediately before the show began, funnily enough! laugh.gif

I'm actually surprised they even have her video! lol

That's odd - I have Freeview too and we very recently got Viva added!

Posted by: Vülker 16th August 2015, 03:52 PM

It moved to channel 58 on Freeview HD.

I thought Starships was 990,000 or something a lot closer than 980,000 to 1 million.

Agreed, I think streams may be missing from the countdown.

EDIT: Definitely missing - 'Roar' has sold 1,200k+ in total but is on 1,030k on this countdown.

Posted by: liamk97 16th August 2015, 04:28 PM

That's all I can post for now so if anyone wishes to continue for me, feel free!

I've somehow managed to miss out a song too!

Especially For You? Isn't that a million seller?

Posted by: Gezza 16th August 2015, 10:38 PM

That was a duet with equal billing for the male singer. I think for the purposes of this list only male featured credits still allowed the song to feature here.

Posted by: Luciano 16th August 2015, 10:48 PM

Smash that top 5 Brinty!!!

Posted by: AntoineTTe 17th August 2015, 11:48 AM

It's quite something to behold that at one stage in my life time there was only a single million seller by a female singer - Jennifer Rush's The Power of Love and now there's 26 of them. 20 years ago there were only 4.

Thanks for posting this! Nice to have some updated numbers on "A Moment Like This" and "Bleeding Love". Feels like "A Moment Like This" was stuck on 900k/905k for ages. Had "Bleeding Love" on 1,060,000 for a while too.

This is what I'm guessing completes the Top 50, without streams still:

50 Rihanna 'Umbrella' 820,000
49 Madonna 'Like a Virgin' 830,000
48 Rihanna 'What's My Name' 830,000
47 Shania Twain 'That Don't Impress Me Much' 840,000
46 Leona Lewis 'Run' 850,000
45 Spice Girls 'Spice Up Your Life' 860,000
44 Madonna 'Into the Groove' 870,000
43 Jennifer Lopez 'On the Floor' 870,000
42 Cilla Black 'Anyone Who Had a Heart' 880,000
41 Spice Girls 'Goodbye' 890,000

I assume 'Umbrella' would be at #48?

I think I just counted the numbers wrong. tongue.gif I think 'Umbrella' should be at #50 with 820k if we're excluding streams.

It's still criminal that Madonna doesn't have a million selling single. A re-release of Into The Groove would do it. tongue.gif

I was just thinking the same thing - given Madonna has had most top10 hits for a female artist and most number one singles.

Posted by: liamk97 18th August 2015, 03:45 PM

The thing with Madonna is that a lot of her most known hits were released at times when the singles market was low - late 80s/early 90s and middle 00s for instance. 'Like a Prayer', 'Vogue' and 'Hung Up' could have outsold 'Into the Groove', I'm sure.

I thought 'Umbrella' was ahead of 'What's My Name?' for some reason, but it's still a bit behind according to the latest figures. Although the last known figure for 'Umbrella' was 830k, so it's very close in sales.

I don't think Like a Prayer or Vogue would have sold a million even if they were released in say 1996 to 1999. Prob might have reached 800,000 tops.

Anyone know what the sales of Ella Henderson Ghost are? Can't be far off top 40...
