I remember when 'Thank U' came out, it was on that momentous week where the entire top 5 were new entries, with Alanis at #5, so on a different week that could have been a #1 single.

^Actually I checked and Alanis did 56K with Thank U, in some other weeks she could have been #3 but not #1, that was not enough back then...

That 10x Platinum is for shipments rather than sales. I’m almost certain that jagged little pill has done over 3 million in Uk. However, the problem that has happened from album sales in the mid 90’s is music week/ OCC have downgraded many sales and do not include music club sales. It was given a certificate of 3 million shipments in 2002. Around 4 years after its 9th platinum award and 7 years after its release. In 2005 music week claimed it’s sales to 2.5million. That would mean it was at least half a million over-shipped. Which is ridiculous, when by then the hype was completely gone from the album. |

QUOTE The album was something the public hadn't really heard before: a woman displaying raw anger and a frank portrayal of female sexuality. Alanis has already said that Little Earthquakes from Tori Amos was hugely influential on the making of JLP. And that is an album of raw anger and frank portrayal of female sexuality. |

'Erotica' also says hi in regards to "frank portrayal of female sexuality".

It doesn't quite have the anger of Little Earthquakes.
