    Andrew's Review
Now That’s What I Call Music! 87 aka Now 87 was released in the Spring of 2014 and contained 46 tracks and 10 UK #1 singles from the era. It became the first volume in the series to feature music from Sam Smith (as a lead artist), 5 Seconds Of Summer, Gorgon City, John Legend, The Chainsmokers, Tiλsto, Neon Jungle and Matrix & Futurebound.

With 46 tracks already, there wasn’t enough space for some other hits of the time. The #2 hit from Zedd featuring Hayley Williams from Paramore got overlooked, as did Feelin’ Myself by will.i.am who was a series regular. Other omissions came from Lily Allen, Jason Derulo, Breach, AWOLNATION, McFly, David Guetta, Coldplay, Flo Rida and others.

This volume is the only one in the series to feature Route 94, Elyar Fox, A Great Big World, Sam Bailey, DVBBS, Tujamo, Sub Focus, Le Youth, London Grammar, Vance Joy and American Authors.

Artwork Rating: 2/10 Awful
Another childish Easter cover where ideas are scarce and originality is nonexistent. The Easter bunnies from the previous Spring release was bad, and these egg-shaped “M&M’s character” rip-offs are what makes a mockery out of the quality of the music contained within these two discs. Sure, there’s some common seasonal features like a blue sky with clouds and some flowers but this whole concept of chucking some cheap decorations about the logo is what I rate as awful and unprofessional too.

Disc 1 Favourite: Avicii – Hey Brother
Following on from a number of hits already, Avicii came back with this earworm of a single that ought to have been another #1 single but was denied. It’s up there as one of my favourites from the late DJ. Gorgon City is a close second choice as favourite for this disc.

Disc 2 Favourite: The Chainsmokers – #SELFIE
“But first... let me take a selfie” It was always a surprise to hear this song for the first time. The term “Selfie” was already commonplace by this point and instagram was taking off at an alarming speed, this song came along and had a banging drop and whilst it’s intention was to make a mockery out of the social media movement, it became a very relatable song in terms of lyrical content and despite it’s peak at #11 it was still deemed worthy enough to open Disc 2.

Disc 3 Tracklist:
(A concept of what a third disc might look like if other hits from the era were used)

1. will.i.am feat. Miley Cyrus, Wiz Khalifa, French Montana & DJ Mustard – Feelin’ Myself 4:13 {2}
2. Jason Derulo – Trumpets 3:37 {4}
3. Lily Allen – Hard Out Here 3:31 {9}
4. McFly – Love Is On The Radio 4:05 {6}
5. Imagine Dragons – Demons 2:57 {13}
6. AWOLNATION – Sail 4:19 {17}
7. Christina Perri – Human 4:10 {14}
8. Katy Perry – Unconditionally 3:48 {25}
9. Zedd feat. Hayley Williams – Stay The Night 3:37 {2}
10. Ellie Goulding – Goodness Gracious 3:46 {16}
11. Flo Rida – How I Feel 2:50 {8}
12. Avicii – Addicted To You 2:28 {14}
13. David Guetta feat. Skylar Grey – Shot Me Down 3:11 {4}
14. Breach – Everything You Never Had (We Had It All) 2:54 {9}
15. Chris Malinchak – If U Got It 3:22 {23}
16. Afrojack feat. Spree Wilson – The Spark 4:03 {17}
17. Hardwell feat. Matthew Koma – Dare You 3:38 {18}
18. Tinie Tempah feat. Labrinth – Lover Not A Fighter 3:16 {16}
19. Chase & Status feat. Jacob Banks – Alive 3:26 {21}
20. Rudimental feat. Emeli Sandι – Free 3:36 {26}
21. Shakira feat. Rihanna – Can’t Remember To Forget You 3:27 {11}
22. Rizzle Kicks – Skip To The Good Bit 3:19 {16}
22. Tegan and Sara feat. The Lonely Island – Everything Is AWESOME!!! 2:43 {17}
----------
Total time: 1:19:59

Overall Rating: 7/10 Very Good
Lots of great music within these two discs and some questionable choices too, such as the non-charting John Newman and the #37 single from London Grammar. Good use of the available disc space by fitting 46 tracks across both discs, and 24 on a single disc which had not been done before. The artwork is awful but the quality of the music is much better and it’s deserving of a high rating here.

Andrew's Best 5 (as of June 2018)
1. The Chainsmokers – #SELFIE
2. Calvin Harris & Alesso feat. Hurts – Under Control
3. Duke Dumont feat. Jax Jones – I Got U
4. Neon Jungle – Braveheart
5. Avicii – Hey Brother

Andrew's Worst 5 (as of June 2018)
1. Busta Rhymes feat. Q-Tip, Kanye West & Lil Wayne – Thank You
2. Pixie Lott – Nasty
3. Sam Bailey – Skyscraper
4. London Grammar – Hey Now
5. Little Mix – Word Up!

Good album this one. Struggled for some time to pick a top 5

Sub Focus - Turn Back Time
Martin Garrix vs. Jay Hardway - Wizard
Alesso vs. OneRepublic - If I Lose Myself
Le Youth feat. Dominique Young Unique - Dance With Me
Duke Dumont feat. Jax Jones - I Got U

Other honourable mentions: Move, Crying For No Reason and Hey Brother

Good album overall but few too many 'average' songs, especially on Disc 1

The reason for so many randoms on this album was another record company put out their own compilation which ended up flopping so gave the rights of the tracks back to Now in time for the release of 88.

My Top 5 from the album are:-

1) Calvin Harris feat. Hurts - Under Control
2) Route 94 feat. Jess Glynne - My Love
3) Duke Dumont - I Got You
4) Vance Joy - Riptide
5) Gorgan City feat. MNEK - Ready For Your Love

5. Vance Joy – Riptide 3:19 {10}

Artwork: 3/10
There's a lot going on but it's all fairly crap. The figure things just look weird and the flowers don't really make up for it

Overall: 6/10 (accidentally gave it a 7/10 in the poll)
Whilst there are some great songs on here, there's also some completely forgettable stuff too. The second half of Disc 1 is such a bore and the second half of Disc 2 is just so nothingy (apart from Riptide & Best Day Of My Life). This was the era of All Of Me which is a song I hated then and hate now, but to be fair I don't have much against anything else here. The highlights of the discs are all great songs that have stood the test of time. Under Control is my favourite Calvin / Alesso song to date and Hey Brother is one of Avicii's best also.

There are a few questionable omissions too. Feelin' Myself, Trumpets, Demons, Stay The Night, Addicted To You, Shot Me Down, Free, Can’t Remember To Forget You, Drunk In Love, Magic, Into The Blue, What Now, XO, and Shot At The Night (again)all deserved to be here in place of some of the other songs. White Walls, Adore You, and Team would've been nice too but they were lower charting.

I like the artwork, as the smiley's may reference the late 80s/early 90s rave scene wink.gif and as we know there was quite a bit of 90s dance nostalgia from 2013 to 2015.

Top track on disc1 for me: Hey Brother by Avicii, which I liked quite a bit at the time, the vocal and production are great. I also liked One Republic and Alesso's If I Lose Myself at the time.

Top track on Disc 2: Under Control by Calvin Harris & Alesso feat. Hurts. Big sounding tune and the big festive period dance hit of 2013. I did rather enjoy 'Dance With Me' by Le Youth and Dominique Young Unique at the time, it now sounds very late 80s-house inspired with its use of chopped vocals and sampling. Good tune. Doctor Who by Tujamo & Plastik Funk feat. Sneakbo, Matrix & Futurebound feat. Max Marshall – Control and The Chainsmokers' #SELFIE I also really enjoyed at the time.

London Grammar - Hey Now in your worst 5 wardy? sad.gif I loved the Arty remix at the time and that was where most of the sales came from iirc!

I didn't like it at the time, sounds a bit better now listening to it now though! It perhaps was the track that really started the whole trend with the bass beat in dance, a trend which I definitely didn't like much back then sad.gif
