Yes when it suits their label. The UK was one of the few countries in Europe that The Loneliest didn't make the top 100 and now they want wants physical album sales from 1 of the biggest markets. I am not surprised.

Yes, 'The Loneliest' didn't get much of a playlisting push over here. But it's so much easier to get big physical album sales from an artist with a large fanbase than to get a single charting, so their method shouldn't be too surprising.

That's what I meant. They might climb to #1 but I doubt a lot of their younger fanbase would buy it on iTunes and the UK mainstream will know them less than other artists so streaming will be a better indicator. SZA wasn't that high on iTunes and we know how that turned out in the end.

I agree, although physical sales will likely be far stronger than streaming.

Måneskin are not SZA, they rely 100% on physicals
but they will do well, there are cazillions of variants and bundles
should be an easy #1 mostly cos of the lack of competition

I'd love to see them going to #1 but I'm not sure I'd be that confident! We've not yet had a test of how well they will do with a co-ordinated physical release, the previous album was a slow burner and mostly based on streaming. (Also fair to say the hype around them has subsided a bit now). Of course the bar for #1 probably won't be that high so fingers crossed they do still have the fanbase for it. Should definitely at the very least be top 10 anyway you'd think which would still be a big improvement after 'Teatro D'Ira Vol. I' never quite made the top 40.

After a few very quiet weeks I see several albums out this week that I want to check out - Måneskin, Ladytron, Låpsley (big week for artists with 'å' in their name laugh.gif) and Biig Piig although that is more like an EP, only 7 songs and 3 were singles (it is officially a mixtape).

I reckon they’ll quite easily be #1 tbh! I think they’ll sell at least 20k, which may be optimistic but they are playing the O2 Arena this year.

I hope you're right but I'll believe it when I see it, people have been constantly overpredicting their singles beyond the ones that won the TikTok lottery so I am just permanently pessimistic x

I'd be curious to see how big a fanbase Maneskin have over here, I feel like The Reytons have a good chance of reaching #1 tho - their last album opened with 8k and they have a bunch of coloured vinyls, cassette bundles etc

I'm surprised The Reytons didn't release next week tbh.

The Reytons getting to #1 would be quite a feat given they're apparently not notable enough to even have a Wikipedia page yet. But yeah, definitely looks possible. Every now and then we do have one of these random nondescript indie bands called 'The [something]' who have developed a big enough fanbase out of thin air to get a #1 album, maybe they're the next The Snuts or The Lathums.

(I don't think I have heard any of their music to be fair x)

At least The Lathums and The Snuts are fresh and pretty decent though. The Reytons are so cringy, it's a bunch of late-30s guys trying to impersonate 2006 Alex Turner. They've been mocked a lot on TikTok lately, but have built up quite a decent fanbase from the "I hate Tranquility Base/The Car" crowd - and are even playing Sheffield Arena this year! And it is quite impressive how they're still a self-releasing band, whereas The Snuts & The Lathums are both signed to major labels.

For some reason The Reytons' lead singer has a Wikipedia page as he had a minor rap career in the early 2010's, although it clearly hasn't been updated in a while! laugh.gif https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jay_Mya

Sam Smith opened with nearly 24k last time (which feels really low looking back). I feel like the album should still pass 20k this time around.

Think SG Lewis is the only mainstream-ish album I care about from this week's new releases. I forgot his last album charted as high as #46, I hope this one can make the top 40 but not going to hold my breath.

Sam should definitely be #1 one would think, even if their sales continue to decline from the last era.
