Meant to ask last week, where did that cover art for 'Flowers' come from? Its artwork is still just the album cover on Spotify thinking.gif (which looks a lot better ph34r.gif)

Looking forward to either Libianca or preferably Lizzy hopefully going top 5 today. Not sure if there's much else I care about this week but should be a few new entries that I've not heard yet!

Can the OCC find some sales down the back of the sofa and put Miracle to #1 before we are blighted by an extra mature cheddar fest?

We live in hope.

Fred again.., Skrillex and Four Tet
Baby again..

6th single from USB
Released: 17th March 2023
Label: Warner Music UK

Video

Biography

Fred again..
Born in 1993, London-based songwriter/producer Fred John Philip Gibson treats his electro and rave-inspired songs as diary entries. But the artist, who performs under the name Fred Again.., doesn’t limit the subject matter to himself. On albums like 2021’s Actual Life (April 14 - December 17 2020) and its sequel, Actual Life 2 (February 2 - October 15 2021), Fred invited his friends into the studio to record their personal stories and then sprinkled them throughout the album. (The obvious exception was an epic Kodak Black sample on “Kahan (Last Year)”.) The songwriter has also worked with stars such as Eminem and Ed Sheeran, but Fred’s longest collaboration is with his brothers, whom he shares his tracks with before they’re released. “It’s such a blessing to work with both of my brothers,” Fred explained in an interview with Apple Music. “I’ll spend hours and hours working on a tune, and they’ll hear it how I will, but without all the baggage. They bring a fresh ear.” - Apple Music

Skrillex
In the spring of 2010, few people could have expected that the person about to turn electronic music upside down was the long-haired frontman of From First to Last, a Los Angeles post-hardcore band. But from virtually the moment that Sonny Moore (born in LA in 1988) stepped out as Skrillex, he radically changed the course of dance music. His serrated synths and wobbling bass, as heard on 2011's “First of the Year (Equinox)” and “Bangarang,” helped introduce America—and the world at large—to dubstep, and his irrepressible, punk-like energy brought a crucial dose of personality to EDM at the very moment it was evolving from previous incarnations of rave culture. But boundary-breaking, whiplash-inducing tunes like 2010's “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites” were just the beginning: Turns out that Moore is blessed with a rare talent for reinvention. For those who thought he was an unrepentant headbanger, he turned up with sweet, sensitive jams like 2011's “Summit,” featuring Ellie Goulding; by 2014’s shape-shifting Recess, he was wriggling out of dance music’s pigeonholes by teaming up with Chance the Rapper (a remix of Hundred Waters’ “Show Me Love”) and K-pop stars CL and G-Dragon (“Dirty Vibe”). Skrillex’s OWSLA label has proved just as restless in its desire to rewire the future of dance music, releasing work from artists like Anna Lunoe and Dillon Francis. And we haven’t even talked about “Where Are Ü Now,” the runaway hit that Skrillex and Diplo made with Justin Bieber in 2015, which introduced yet another sound to Skrillex's arsenal. The lesson is clear: Having remade dance music in his own image, he's now shifted his aim toward pop music. - Apple Music

Four Tet
Late-’90s London was a dynamic time and place for electronic music: Styles were colliding at an unprecedented pace, and a young Kieran Hebden wasted no time getting involved. He was just 20 when his muscular post-rock outfit, Fridge, signed to Trevor Jackson’s influential Output label in 1997. But the following year, he began pursuing an even more distinctive sound with his electronic solo project, Four Tet. Hebden’s breakbeats weren’t the same ones most dance producers used, and instead of choosing obviously electronic sounds, he opted for warm samples of jazz and folk: reedy horns, harps, unidentifiable instruments from dusty world-music bins. And since the start, he’s remained remarkably true to that singular vision. Hebden began perfecting his sound with 2001’s Pause and 2003’s Rounds—a breezy, brightly coloured take on downtempo notable for its pastoral qualities. By 2008’s Ringer EP, recorded at the height of house and techno’s minimalist boom, he began gravitating toward the dance floor, channelling finely honed percussive sounds into rippling rhythms, and 2010’s ecstatic, full-bodied There Is Love in You married his colourful psychedelic sensibilities to his taste in DJ cuts. (“Plastic People” is named for a beloved underground London nightclub Hebden frequented.) In the years since, Four Tet’s music has grown more daring (2015’s Morning/Evening is a 40-minute, two-track meditation on Hindi film music) and doggedly focused on making people dance (“Kool FM” is a rollicking, jungle-sampling tribute to London’s pirate-radio legacy). Though his wide-ranging collaborations (Katy B, Burial, the late free-jazz drummer Steve Reid) and remixes of everyone from Aphex Twin to Omar Souleyman have allowed him to fold an ever-growing array of ideas into his world, Hebden continues to sound like nobody but himself—and, try as they might, no one else sounds quite like him. - Apple Music

Released: 17th March 2023
Label: Sony Music Entertainment UK

Biography

Venbee, a twenty-one-year-old from Chatham, Kent (UK), started writing music at the age of 8 after watching her grandad play the piano. By the age of twelve, she had already decided she wanted to be a musician. ‘Music has always been my strong point, it’s one of the only things that help me get through the ups and downs of life,’ says Venbee. ‘If I didn’t do music I’d probably be working a dead-end job, only thinking ‘what ifs.’’ Looking up to artists like Carol King, Lola Young, Adele and Billie Eilish for sonic and lyrical inspiration, Erin also looks up to Demi Lovato’s sense of self and the familiarity she brings as a role model. She states, ‘I am and will always be unapologetically myself. I’m a bit of a nutter. When people listen to my songs, I hope they can relate.’ Freestyling and memorizing the lyrics alongside rhythm guitar to combat her dyslexia, Venbee is currently working on her debut EP set to release in 2022. - Soundcloud

I see, fair then!

Did not realise Four Tet had a top 100 single before! Yay for 'Baby again..' giving him a (presumed) second and higher charting hit, Fred again.. bringing another artist back after well over a decade of not charting like with The Streets the other week *.* Shame it probably won't be going top 40 but tbf it's not super commercial sounding, and not helping that it's over 5 minutes long. Banger though.
