I know there are topics for newer games but I figured we needed one for older ones and all other things Pokemon.

Like, a plac to share friend codes for trading or Friend Safari or to talk about the VC version of olde games.

I'm currently playing through Crystal and learning about the utter slayage that is Teddiursa



ALso how kinda crappy Feraligatr is, I am swapping him out for Golduck.

Ooh yes good thread. As a Gen 1 nostalgia junkie (who never really played the games at the time) I've got a Fire Red run on the go right now and I'm really enjoying putting in all the effort to get good levelled Pokemon from everywhere (kind of my goal in Pokemon games is to get a Pokedex with Pokemon I'd at least be comfortable with using), and incidentally I'm actually really missing not having access to Bellsprout, who was one of the best ones when I did a similar thing with Leaf Green last year but lost the save somewhere because I didn't download the emulator that time.

I love Pokemon, I have done ever since I was a kid. I have played every gen and I love Pokemon Go too

It took me until the VC release of Crystal to realise you could actually catch Teddiursa and Phanpy right before/after Cherrygrove. I wish I'd known sooner because my early-game Gen II teams were always painfully generic . Good call on Golduck too, I always loved its Crystal sprite.

I'm currently playing through Platinum for the first time since my original run back when it was first released. I've always considered Gen IV my least favourite, but in hindsight, it really is leaps and bounds ahead of Gen VI/Gen VII for me. For a start, it actually poses somewhat of a challenge and the hand-holding is near non-existent. It still has its issues; there's faaar too many mandatory HMs and it's a bit sluggish in general, but it's the most fun I've had playing a Pokemon game in a long while, and I'm enjoying trying out a few unconventional team picks like Carnivine and Armaldo.

Gen 4 is by far y favourite and Platinum is my favourite Pokemon game so many great new pokemon in that gen.

Getting Teddiursa before the first badge is a godsend, plus it can learn the elemental punches. Obv Ursaring doesn't have amazing special attack but it's more than good enough to do the trick.
Actually went back to Feraligator, it picks up a bit when you level up, plus I have Lanturn too, who is one of the best Pokemon ever.

I actually forgot HGSS were Gen IV when I posted that -- they're by far by favourite mainline games. Absolutely packed with content (I rag on the newer gens constantly, but I really wish they'd take a few cues from HGSS/BW2 in terms of the post-game) -- plus the following Pokemon were iconic. With that in mind, I'd probably rate them IV > III > V > II > I > VI > VII.

Did anyone else here if ever give Colosseum/XD a try? I always loved them but they get a pretty muted reaction on every other site I've visited.

Gen 1 is one of my favourite gen's as cliche as that is Pokemon was defo one of my favourite games growing up

I'm replaying X and trying to use a team I've not used before so my team is something like:

Slowking, Dragonite, Scyther, Chesnaught, Talonflame and Florges.

Things I have learned while playing; Slowking is my new favourite Pokemon ever, Chespin might be the best starter from X/Y and SCYTHER WITH TECHNICIAN AND AERIAL ACE LITERALLY DESTROYS EVERYTHING.

Pokemon Online and just battle is the one I love to open up. It got a great selection of starters and it added some terrific pokemon, lots of great abilities, new breeding stuff etc.
