Vanessa's new solo song called 'Don't Wanne Be Your Lover' premiered today! The video is set to be released this Friday, so watch this space for that bad boy!

QUOTE
We’ve got a double whammy for you today: a chat with Vanessa White as well as a premiere of her new track!

Personally, my standout The Saturdays memory was their 2009 cover of Depeche Mode’s iconic track “Just Can’t Get Enough”. Yours may well be their stellar early work, the bubble gum classic “Up”, or perhaps, in your enviable youthfulness, it’s 2013’s heartfelt hit “What About Us”. Whichever is your favourite, you were almost certainly profoundly saddened by The Saturdays’ hiatus announcement last year – who didn’t shed a perfectly airbrushed tear? If you’re still grieving for the loss, then you will be relieved to hear that Vanessa White’s burgeoning solo career storms ahead with a brand new track that we are proud to exclusively bring you.

“Don’t Wanna be Your Lover” is the follow up to last month’s internet-ready-hit “Relationship Goals”, and it ups the smooth R&B ante big time, with the silky yet powerful vocals we have come to expect from Vanessa (not to mention a moreish chorus that refuses to leave my head). It’s a very different sound to The Saturdays’ brand of power-pop, a little more mature and sophisticated, and we can’t wait to hear Vanessa’s next move. On top of the track, we also got a chance to sit down with Vanessa (jealous?) and talk about her new solo sound, her biggest influences, and the unwavering loyalty of The Saturdays’ fan base.

Vanessa, we love your new solo tracks! What made you decide to release music as a solo artist, what direction have you aimed to go in?
It was a natural progression for me to go into music as it was something that I always loved to do. It seemed like the only option for me as I’ve always loved listening to R&B & pop music so it was really natural for me to continue in this direction.

You’ve been in the industry for a while now, how do you feel like your music is growing and progressing?
For me personally I have always listened to this style of music, so there wasn’t a lot of thought put behind it but just happened while I was in the studio.

Your new song “Don’t Wanna Be Your Lover” has a real RnB vibe. What would you say are your key influences?
Growing up I listened to a lot of Janet Jackson, Aaliyah, TLC and all that vibe. I still listen to all of that now and currently I’m listening to a lot of The Weeknd.

What inspires you to write songs?
When I’m in the studio and I meet new people sometimes it just clicks, we really get on and start having conversations about random stuff and that’s a good starting point. Or it can be from ideas that I’ve written on my phone, something I want to write about based on recent experiences.

Is music a therapeutic experience for you?
I find it incredibly therapeutic and a great feeling when I’ve finished a song…I love it!

How have fans from your last project (The Saturdays) reacted to you as a solo artist?
I was really worried first of all about The Sats fans hearing my new stuff because I was unsure to whether they would like it or if it would translate as it’s so different to The Sats music. Luckily they have all been so supportive with their feedback and they are into it which makes me really happy.

What’s your ultimate goal with your solo career?
To continue making loads more music that people really like and enjoy listening to. As long as people like the music then I’m happy!

What’s on the horizon for Vanessa White?
Loads of new music to come this year & next, with a similar R&B vibe and some dancier up-beat tracks coming too!

Pros:
-Better than Relationship Goals
-Doesn't sound cheap
-Vocals are great
-Artwork is great
-Video will probably be great
-It's Vanessa

Cons:
-Forgettable
-Not very catchy
-Sounds like an R&B album track from the early 90s
-I don't see it making much of an impact

^Lol.

I really dig it! wink.gif Can't wait for the video!

Posted by: TheGrinch 11th November 2015, 08:11 PM

I'll be amazed if it goes top 1,500 on iTunes.

Poor Vanessa, she's releasing the music before anybody else and her music is so forgettable, she needs to work with good writers, maybe she could get Mollie to pen her next track?

Posted by: Hurricane 11th November 2015, 08:46 PM

It must be hard for her, though, to get good writers without a proper label.

I know her manager is basically the A&R of The Saturdays, so he probably knows how to get nice tracks for cheap, but still, she would need a budget, and I don't think she has one.

I'm pretty sure she's only just releasing these things in the hope of having a label noticing her. Hopefully someones does and sign her!

More Vanessa solo music can never go wrong

Ooh I'm really liking the sound of this! Sounds very early 00's RnB, album track though. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. It actually, kind of reminds me of an album track on JT's 'The 20/20 Experience' album actually.

EDIT: I've opted to vote for "It's good, but could be better"

Love it.

Posted by: Dane 12th November 2015, 12:59 PM

Really loving this upon first listen. Such a nice vibe, but definitely looking forward to hearing the dance tracks she's done.

Posted by: Ja˙ 12th November 2015, 01:23 PM

It's ok, better than the last song she did.

Posted by: April 12th November 2015, 04:27 PM

Quen V bringing it again *.* It's still not WOW, but they're both pretty good tracks.

Posted by: Cody Slayberry 12th November 2015, 04:46 PM

This sounds like your typical "relax in your bachelor pad with your girl late at night watching Netflix and chilling" song. It honestly sounds like something that could be on Tamar Braxton's album.

I want to know who chose the last option kink.gif

Oh Vanessa. This is not what I need.

Posted by: Hurricane 13th November 2015, 02:14 PM

The video is great, though. Well, I mean, maybe not if you compare it to the big pop girls, but putting it aside the videos from The Saturdays, it isn't looking too cheap, is it?

And she looks GORGEOUS. Wow.

I'm still not thinking most of the song itself...BUT, I do think the video helps elevating the song a bit, so there's that.

Queen Nessa is seriously slaying me with this song, and video, it's so sexy, and so much better than relationship goals wub.gif wub.gif I love!

Not Vanessa bringing back all the posters we thought would never return. Welcome back!

That video is pretty great. Simple but well done and sort of what I expected her to come up with. I wonder if she plans to push this at all?

The video is so simplistic yet I can't keep my eyes off of her! ...As for the music, the production is probably my favourite part but I do feel slightly disappointed sad.gif I've waited too long for this and 'Relationship Goals' to be the outcome of various recordings. The youtube comments all seem to be lovely then again it's only had 32, 000+ views the last time I checked so who knows? I just hope this all works out and there's more catchy songs to come

Posted by: (Zach) 15th November 2015, 05:10 PM

She needs major label backing if she ever wants a hit, although we have no way of knowing if she's actually trying to get signed. She is the least popular member of the Sats (basing that statement off Twitter followers) and the few Sats fans that she's brought with her probably won't be too interested in this sort of sound. I realize this is sort of a passion project but it might've been smart to stick with a more pop sound to start things off, then gradually venture towards this type of material if that's what she really wants to do. Although maybe she's not too concerned with success or maybe she is trying to get a deal.

Oh my god! This is absolutely lush! Much better than the previous effort! So smooth!

Vanessa talking with BBC Radio 1Xtra about her solo work and the sats, about 35 minutes through definitely worth a listen!!!

the presenter also calls Una 'Uma' lol bless

Posted by: Cameron 21st November 2015, 10:39 PM

Vanessa should have said yes to the best vocals question.
'Leaving the door open' hmmm I think that is if all their solo projects flop

Posted by: (Zach) 21st November 2015, 11:26 PM

I love that Dotty called her out on the Sats and said everything we've been saying on here. She handled it all very well of course, but I don't feel like there's much hope of a full scale reunion at this point.
