To kick the countdown off, and therefore coming in last place, is the UK equivalent to Jersey Shore. After the likes of The Only Way is Essex and Made in Chelsea debuted on our screens, MTV decided to show what living up north is not really like. The show chucks a number of horny alcoholics with no absolutely no shame in a house together where they get mortal, tash on and fight as well as tashing on, fighting and getting mortal. They also fight, get mortal and tash on. This repetitive nature has not harmed the show though as it starts it's 11th series in just over 4 years tomorrow where you will see the group getting mortal, fighting and tashing on, just in Greece this time. When the show first aired, there was a heavy amount of criticism from local politicians but it is believed that the show has actually increased tourism as more people want to spend their time exploring the toon's infamous nightlife.

Another Reality show is out next and this time we look at the US counterpart of a very successful UK show. Following the end of Simon Cowell's contract with American Idol, he decided to launch The X Factor over in the US, expecting it to hit the record ratings American Idol once had. However, with that show still going and The Voice debuting to a very successful series, the appetite wasn't strong enough for another singing series. A troubled start even saw Cheryl thrown out after one round of auditions in favour of Nicole Scherzinger. The series never reached the ratings success that Cowell had expected and indeed promised and the third series nearly halfed it's first series ratings, despite numerous line-up changes that including Khloe Kardashian, Demi Lovato and, of course, Britney Spears. We do have the series to thank for creating endless Britney gifs as well as bringing to the world Fifth Harmony, aka the only actual successful contestants to come from the show.

What does Britney think of the show's position here?:

Staying with the American reality shows, America's Got Talent is next! The show is based on an idea that came from Simon Cowell, who had been trying to set a 'Got Talent' show up in the UK. The show welcomes talent of any kind as contestants compete to win $1 million (apparently payable over 40 years!!) and a chance to headline a show in Las Vegas. Judges have included David Hasselhoff, Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne and Mel B, all of which are no strangers to UK judging of course. The most reason season saw many British contestants, including some who appeared on Britain's Got Talent and indeed, one of them won the show!

A darkly comical look at life in a hospital, Nurse Jackie ran for 7 seasons, culminating earlier this year. From the very start, Jackie's dependency on painkillers from the hospital is a central theme, but there are always smart, sharp laughs embedded in every episode. I'd regard this as a great medium between an easy to watch comedy and a gripping drama, a very enjoyable watch if you're into either genre or want a bridge between.

22nd April 1977 – present • UK TV and Soaps

One of the longest running programmes in the list is Top Gear, having first aired in 1977. A reboot after falling ratings occured in 2002 though, completely changing the show and making it into the hugely popular and successful one that we know (or rather KNEW) today. After a run of presenters including Angela Rippon, Noel Edmonds and Kate Humble, the show pushed Jeremy Clarkson (a presenter since 1988) to the forefront of the show and developed a far more humorous style. Clarkson was joined by Richard Hammond and James May as well as the Stig and the show saw regular features like the Cool Wall and Star in a Reasonably Priced Car. The most successful and popular features were the challenges which included modifying cars or racing against each other in different modes of transport. While these may sound simple, there is always something that will go wrong with hilarity ensuing. Over time though, the show has felt a bit more scripted than natural but that never stopped it securing massive ratings and achieving worldwide success, as well as never-ending repeats on Dave. Earlier this year of course, a fracas occured which resulted in all three presenters leaving with Chris Evans set to front a new series next year. Meanwhile, Clarkson, Hammond and May will star in their own series on Amazon Prime. Will we see both shows in the next version of this countdown?

95. The Amazing Race • 71 points

arrow down.gif xx-84-95

No. of votes: 4, Highest score: 27 (Henderella)

5th September 2001 – present • Reality TV

The Amazing Race is the first show to fall from it's previous position as not even it's biggest supporter, Henderella can save it. As for myself, I've never seen the show even though I have been interested in checking it out. It involves teams of two in a race across the world. Each race is split into legs, with each episode roughly spanning a leg, and the last team to finish each leg is eliminated. The teams can get clues and other special elements too. The show has seen a massive 27 seasons across the 14 years since it's debut and, in two of these, Big Brother US all-stars, Brendon and Rachel have starred!

Erm was I really the highest score for Geordie Shore? I barely watch it anymore and it's just so trashy that I actually feel a little embarrassed laugh.gif I did vote for it but I only voted for 23 shows and Geordie Shore was my second lowest so it seems weird how it got 19 points from me. Had I voted for 40 shows and put this show at second lowest, it only would've gotten two points.

11th October 2006 - 31st January 2013 • International TV

The results so far have been in line with the previous editions but, taking a huge fall is 30 Rock! Only two people voted for it, Pavel and Jay, but both rated it very highly so maybe it's a case of not enough people here have seen the show. It's certainly one I'm hoping to check out soon seeing as though it stars and was created by Tina Fey. The show is loosely based on her experiences on Saturday Night Live as it takes place behind the scenes of a fictional live sketch show. One of the distinctive elements of the show is its use of quick cuts to unrelated scenes. The show and its finale have been highly praised by critics.

ne.gif xx-xx-93

15th May 2004 - present (13 series) • Reality TV

Despite being one of the biggest shows in the UK, regularly scoring over 8m viewers for 11 years, Strictly Come Dancing is a new entry and sits in at 93! The series is a technical continuation of Come Dancing, a previous dancing competition show that first aired in 1949 and lasted for 50 years. The big difference is that Strictly contains celebrities pairing up with professional dancers. Originally hosted by Sir Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly, the show has remained fairly consistent with its judging panel and presenters. All three male judges have appeared in every series, as has Tess Daly with last year being the first series to see Claudia Winkleman as a full-time presenter due to Brucie departure. Due it’s massive status, controversy has indeed followed and one of the major scandals was the BBC replacing the older Arlene Phillips for the younger, and previous contestant, Alesha Dixon. Compared to its Saturday night competitor though, the show is seen as a lot of FUN and light relief and having themed weeks where the contestants dress up in full themed costumes, particularly for Halloween, has helped achieve this.

Posted by: JosephStyles Oct 24 2015, 09:00 PM

Thought Strictly would end up higher actually! Claudia is the STAR of the show of course.

23rd May 2004 – 27th April 2009 (4 series) • Reality TV

Debuting just a few days after Strictly, Hell’s Kitchen didn’t end up as successful but, surprisingly, you all prefer the show! For the first series, Gordon Ramsey was the chef featured but, after an exclusivity contract with Channel 4 was signed by him, the role was took over by Gary Rhodes and Jean-Christophe Novelli and then by Marco Pierre-White for the last two series. Surprisingly, the show is still going in the US today with Gordon in charge. The UK show sees celebrities (although Series 2 saw members of the public) being taught by the chefs and they would then be in charge of cooking the food in a restaurant full of other minor celebrities. Each show would be live from the restaurant and featured highlights from the previous day/night.

Another show that debuted in 2004, this time in the US, is Project Runway (a show I know nothing about oops). The show focuses more on fashion design with contestants competing to create the best clothes, with at least one being eliminated each week. The prize that they’re competing for is to prepare a collection for New York Fashion Week. Different challenges seen throughout the years have been designing clothes made from recyclable materials, food and plants as well as designing for high profile stars. The show has seen 14 regular series and 5 all-star series with Heidi Klum regularly starring in a judging role.

No. of votes: 5, Highest score: 23 (Alex!)

8th January 2002 – 11th July 2007 (5 series) • UK TV and Soaps

Tracy Beaker exploded onto CBBC back in 2002 with screams of "BOG OFF" and bad temper all round, as Dani Harmer starred in the TV adaptation of Jacqueline Wilson's hit book of the same name. The Story of Tracy Beaker followed the life of the title character, who lived in a care home (nicknamed the "Dumping Ground"). Tracy was a troubled kid with behavioural problems, who dreamed of her mum coming to pick her up one day. Eventually, she found a home with writer Cam Lawson, who fostered and later adopted her. Other key characters throughout the show's five-series run include Tracy's friends Jackie and Crash, her arch enemy Justine, and brothers Lol and Bouncer (oh and let's not forget chef Duke and social worker Elaine the Pain *.*). The show was succeeded by two spin-offs; the first of which saw Tracy return as a careworker. Despite being a kids show, The Story of Tracy Beaker always managed to be an interesting show about life in care, and an absolute joy to watch.

19th September 2011 - present (4 series) • International TV

2 Broke Girls is set in New York and sees two roommates working in a diner whilst trying to set up a cupcake business. One of the girls is a daughter of a millionaire who eventually lost all of his money whilst the other lived in poverty throughout her life. The show has been a hit with many praising it for the chemistry of the lead actors. However, there is a lot of criticism of the show with many calling it old-fashioned in its humour with many overly sexualised jokes and an overuse of racial stereotypes. I've never seen the show myself and only previously knew that it was about two (broke) girls working in a diner, I've never been interested to check it out.

Brι's alternative commentary: 2 girls are running a shop selling cupcakes or some shit and all the jokes are just racial stereotypes. My sister used to sometimes watch (this) in my vicinity, it made me want to die and then die again in hell, because it would probably be on there non-stop.

Posted by: Dantom. Oct 25 2015, 10:05 PM

It doesn't help that I didn't vote in this but The Amazing Race deserves to be far higher! The best non-X Factor reality TV show out there.

By the time you've read this, another death will have happened in Hollyoaks... In seriousness, this teen/young person focused soap is celebrating its 20th anniversary this very month, with a huge storyline in the reveal of who is the "Glove Hand Killer" - a member of hospital staff who has injected no fewer than 8 victims since January with a fatal dosage of drugs. In this small village, everything is completely far fetched, dramatic and filled with lust and lies, death and destruction but it usually makes for an exciting watch and the regular viewers wouldn't have it any other way! Except a new producer maybe...

The first show to reach more three figures in points is something I kind of cheated with by putting two shows together~ In the run up to London hosting the Olympics in 2012, the BBC made a show that took a spoof look at behind the scenes of the organisation. Narrated by David Tennant, the mockumentary followed the fictional Olympic Deliverance Commission, run by Ian Fletcher (as played by Hugh Bonneville), with Olivia Colman playing his assistant. The success of the series (which won many awards), led to a follow up series, W1A, where Ian now worked for the BBC. For me, it was this where the show really took off, with the satire going up a gear. One of the main areas it makes fun of is corporate structures and speech, with the second series (of W1A) particularly focusing on a new job of Director of Better. The biggest highlight for me across both shows however is Siobhan Sharpe, the head of PR company Perfect Curve. Played perfectly by Jessica Hynes, she comes up with wacky ideas that completely go against the aim set out. Both series ended up having some very scary similarities, for Twenty-Twelve, it was the countdown clock breaking down as well as athletes arriving suffering delays. Over the past two years particularly, a lot of events suggested or made fun of by W1A have appeared in real life news as happening to the actual BBC.

It's been hard to write a decent commentary for this because I can't really express why I love it, it's just a VERY smart show where the satire is perfect!

Since October 2011, Once Upon A Time has given more than just children an excuse to indulge in some fairy-tales. The show follows the protagonist Emma Swan, a loner who was abandoned at birth and who's job is to find people. One day a boy called Henry turns up at her door claiming to be the son she gave up ten years ago and convinces her to go back to Storybrooke with him, a fictional town in Maine. Henry has a book of fairy-tales, at least that's what everyone else thinks they are. He tells Emma these stories aren't fictional and that all the characters inside them have been sent to Storybrooke from another realm under the Evil Queen's dark curse. Nobody knows who they really are and have no memories of their fairy-tale persona and according to Henry, Emma is the only one that can save them. You have all the classics brought to the real world such as Snow White, Prince Charming, Rumplestiltskin, Malificent, you name them, they will probably be in at least one of OUAT's five seasons, with their current one set in Camelot where you will find characters such as Merida from Brave.

14th January 2006 – 9th March 2014 (9 series) • Reality TV

Following on from the success of the BBC's 'Strictly Come Dancing', ITV decided to have the same show, only this time the dancing would take place...on ICE. Torvill & Dean, Britain's best known ice skating duo were there through all 9 series to give the contestants advice and comments and they regularly performed on each show. The judging panel was made up of many ice skating legends as well as Jason Gardiner filling the villain quota and appearances from Louis Spence, Emma Bunton and Ashley Roberts. Many a soap star took part and many Boleros were performed. Memorable moments included Todd Carty's skate off-stage during one performance and when Pamela Anderson was booked for a LOT of money and therefore a lot of the press focused on her, only for her to leave after just one show. Following news of Torvill and Dean's departure from the series as well as falling ratings, the show officially ended with an all-stars series, bringing back some of the more successful and memorable celebrities from throughout the years.

Following many successful years of The Apprentice, a junior spin-off occurred during 2010 and 2012, focusing on young entrepreneurs aged 16 and 17. Each series was much shorter than that of its original show, coming in at 6 episodes. The idea, which Lord Sugar was very passionate about, was to promote enterprise amongst young people. The format is very similar to the original, just with a slightly friendlier tone from Sugar, Karren and Nick. The Apprentice is one of my favourite shows so I was always very excited to watch this spin-off but the younger contestants didn't appeal to me and the show didn't work as well. How well will The Apprentice face though?

The first series of Twenty Twelve was good, but, for me, things really took off with the second series. That's when the general theme of an endearingly incompetent team truly made its mark. W1A then stepped that up a gear and introduced the loveable idiot Will.

CSI and NCIS (and their various spin-offs) may be the more famous US crime procedurals but neither managed to make the Top 100 here. Perhaps surprisingly then, fellow CBS show 'Criminal Minds' did, although it is the first show to have at least one maximum point to drop out. As the title suggests, the show focuses more on the criminal rather than the actual crime and it sees FBI profilers trying to catch them based on profiling. The first 3 series starred Mandy Patinkin, aka Saul in Homeland, as the main character until he quit after being deeply disturbed by the content of the show. Three of the series' original main stars have been with the series for all 11 seasons so far however. The show has been impressively consistent in the ratings over the years and fits perfectly in CBS' schedule. It led to one failed spin-off 2011 starring Forest Whitaker and another, titled 'Beyond Borders', will air next year after a backdoor pilot aired back in April.

Veep is based in the office of a fictional Vice-President, Selina Meyer, as played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus. It explores her strained relationship with the President as she feels powerless as the second in command but the show never actually shows the President. The show has been nominated and has indeed won several awards and it is critically acclaimed for it's sharp satire, timing and witty one-liners. Julia herself has managed to win four Emmys for the show as well as receiving three Golden Globe nominations.

Orphan Black starts off following Sarah Manning, an English con-artist who spends her days drifting from place to place. She finds herself at a train station where she witnesses the death of a woman who looks exactly like her. She takes on her identity and eventually she discovers that it's not only a doppleganger she has but in fact many 'sister' clones , all of which are played by the incredibly talented Tatiana Maslany. She becomes allies with two of them, Cosima and Alison and they tell her someone is killing all the clones off one by one, so they team up along with Sarah's adoptive brother Felix to try and find out who. The plot across the three seasons is very exciting and detailed and there's lots of twists and turns within it that you won't see coming and there are so many strong characters that you can't help but love.

Don't let looks deceive you - this is not necessarily a cutesy kids' cartoon! On the surface it is, and if you don't pay attention to the layers of humour you might miss this fact, but the great thing about this show is how clever it is! The really out there jokes are so subtle that the show is still appropriate for young children, but the show transcends generations so that children, teens and adults could watch it and each find different things amusing. It's a very very weird watch but that's the appeal, and such an easy watch too with just 10 minutes to each episode.

The Chase is a TV game show that premiθred in 2009 which is about contestants trying to defeat the 'chaser' by answering a series of questions. This is definitely my favourite of the afternoon programmes and it is always a fun watch with excellent questions! The show is hosted by the always funny Bradley Walsh and there has been many fantastic moments, especially surrounding some of the more rude questions which has had everyone in hysterics on the show! (can't think of any right now laugh.gif ). It's great to see The Chase make the top 80 as it really is a bunch of fun!

Surprised Strictly is low here also. I thought people leave plug DJ and the like to watch it? laugh.gif still I'm glad it's low, it's just people dancing and it's not really my thing.
Could also have done with Top Gear finishing a fair bit higher tbh. It was disappointing in a way to see I was the highest scorer.
Hell's "Iamspamspamami" heehee.gif that autocorrect joke will never get old; used to enjoy watching it and see Gorgon lose it laugh.gif
The Story of Tracy Beaker being only 90 is probably the biggest shock yet. What a great series it was! wub.gif
Good to see Dancing on Ice higher than Strictly but still finishing low. Because I guess it's more interesting to see it on ice than in general!
As for Adventure Time, I have no care for it other than its feature in Avicii's Hey Brother remix kink.gif

Saving the worst crime against TV until last, because The Chase missing out on a top 75 position, let alone a top 40 is a big nono! nono.gif at least I did my bit and gave it a higher score than anyone else biggrin.gif (By the way, the best moment by far was the Fanny Chmelar question. Going beyond the US with our international TV is The Bridge or Bron or Breon, whatever you wish to call it. It is jointly produced by Danish and Swedish broadcasters and is often used, as long with The Killing, to show the high quality of Scandinavian drama and was indeed broadcast in the same way as The Killing was here. The show sees both Swedish and Danish police detectives join forces to investigate a different case each season. Two seasons have so far aired in full, with the third currently showing. It spawned a British/French adaptation, titled 'The Tunnel' which aired two years ago. It has managed to remarkably stay stable since the last countdown!

A show documenting the life of a vampire, a werewolf and a ghost living together sounds more like the start of a joke than a hard hitting sci-fi drama show, but Being Human, created by Toby Whithouse, was well suited to its post-watershed slot and made for compelling viewing throughout its five series. Originally starring Aidan Turner, Russell Tovey, Lenora Crichlow and Sinead Keenan, the show followed the protagonists as they tried to live human lives despite being supernatural beings. As the show went on, the focus shifted slightly as each cast member ended up leaving and we were left with the TV show equivalent of the Sugababes - an entirely new cast, starring Damien Molony, Michael Socha and Kate Bracken, throughout the fourth and fifth series, before the show ultimately ended (with an annoyingly ambiguous ending). I can't recommend this show enough, having watched it back recently. It can provoke all kinds of emotions and the characters feel very much real, helped by some top notch acting and writing. And to think, this was a BBC3 show...

Mock the Week is a bit different to your usual panel show as not only does it contain a humorous look at the week, it also features improvisational stand up! One particular favourite round is 'Scenes We'd Like to See' where the regulars and the guests provide great one liners and inappropriate comments to random questions such as "Things the Queen didn't say in her Christmas speech" or "Unlikely lines from the final Harry Potter book". The show has attracted a lot of controversy though, especially when OFCOM favourite Frankie Boyle was a panellist and his comments surrounding the Queen and Rebecca Adlington. It has also been criticised by the lack of female comic representation although recent BBC quotas have meant that there must be at least one female comedian on each episode of a panel show. The show has made stars out of many comedians that have appeared on the show mainly being the regular panellists, Russell Howard & Frankie Boyle and many comedians have been helped to break through into other TV shows because of the show.

Slightly higher than the only other Scandinavian drama is The Killing, one of the most critically acclaimed series of the last few years. Each of the three seasons focus on a different murder and each episode spans a 24 hour day of the investigation. One of the most praised highlights is the equal emphasis of focus on the investigation and impact on the victim's family as well as it's dark tone. The lead actress, Sofie Grεbψl, was also very heavily involved in the development of her character and, during the first series, the details of the murder and each episode would be kept secret from the cast as much as possible. It's success in the UK is said to have 'paved the way for a wave of subtitled European crime dramas' (The Guardian), leading to shows like Borgen, The Bridge and The Returned to be shown on our TV screens. It led to an American remake that wasn't as successful, but was still able to run for 4 seasons after a move to Netflix.

Big Brother has undoubtedly been a phenomenon all over the world and 3 editions of the show are featured in this countdown. The UK versions of the show are extremely popular on this site and are sure to be high up in these results BUT FIRST the US version climbs to a shared position of 74. Despite never having the cultural impact that the UK version did here, the US version of the show is still going strong after 17 seasons. Whilst the first season used the usual format of the public deciding who leaves the house, all the other seasons have seen a distinct format change that enforces the 'no outside contact' rule even further. The show may still see housemates (or rather houseGUESTS) all living in a house cut off from the world but, in the US version, it is the houseguests themselves who decide who stays in the house and, more importantly who leaves. Each week, there is a competition to decide who becomes the Head of Household and they will nominate two people to be up for eviction BUT FIRST, they, along with the HOH and 3 others, have a chance to veto one of the nominations by playing in another competition. The other houseguests then choose who they wish to evict. BUT FIRST, with twists occurring every series as well as multiple occurring within each series, houseguests are warned to expect the unexpected as it may not be as simple as described here. The whole show is a very interesting change in format as it brings the notion of gameplay right to the forefront and allows you to cheer them on, without having to be suspicious about their character. The paranoia heats up as every eviction passes as betrayals and secret deals happen at every moment. And while no one can beat Davina or Emma, the US also has an iconic presenter in the form of the Chenbot. She's someone to me who appears very wooden but somehow still very good at their job, I can't really work it out. She's been there for every series and loves her but firsts and her twisty twist twists.

The 100 is a young adult post-apocalyptic drama that wipes out nearly all of mankind and 100 kids from where they live are sent to Earth to see if everyone can go back there. I wasn't too sure about watching it but my sister convinced me that it looked really good so we decided to watch it and this is definitely one of my favourite new programmes on TV, let alone one of my favourite TV programmes already! It is action packed, thrilling with twist and turns and isn't scared to make shock decisions such as the decision to kill off one of the main characters. The cast is also fantastic and the girl who plays Clarke is excellent and brings so much life to the role. There has been 2 series so far and all 100 fans are eagerly awaiting the 3rd series!

Over the past few years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has become a worldwide phenomenon and so the obvious answer was to branch out into the television world as well. There was huge hype for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. when it first debuted, with the pilot getting 4.7 in the US ratings and whilst, ratings fell throughout the first season as the show wasn't quite the superhero series people were expecting, ratings have since stabilised as the quality of the show increased. As the title suggests, the show looks further into the organisation that helped bring the Avengers together, following a team led by the apparently dead Agent Coulson. Early on, we see them joined by a new member of the team, Skye who becomes crucial to the overarching plot. The first series mainly started as a procedural with some minor references to the MCU. It wasn't until the release of Captain America: the Winter Solider that the show really stepped up a gear and transformed into a more gripping and tighter show with a more long-running narrative. This was because the film had seen (SPOILERS~~) the destruction of S.H.I.E.L.D. by Hydra and this therefore gave the show some meaning and purpose in the MCU. Throughout the second and third seasons, it has also helped introduce Inhumans to the MCU which should be leading into a Inhumans movie. The release date for that keeps being pushed back however and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is more than likely ending before this release. Anyway, once the show found it's feet, it became more like the series I was perhaps expecting and it's good to see an ensemble show with so many developed characters. It's good that they manage to work in tie-ins with the films, the tie-in with Captain America was of course fantastic and meant the show changed forever. It's also unbelievable that Samuel L. Jackson even appeared in the Series 1 finale!

While I was only 1 when this show ended, it was still able to be a large part of my childhood. This was down to regular tea-time repeats on the BBC where I was able to catch up on the lives of Will Smith, Uncle Phil, Aunt Viv (both versions mellow.gif), Hilary, Ashley, Nicky, Geoffrey and, of course Carlton. With one of THE BEST theme tunes of all time (who doesn't know the words), we were set the scene of the sitcom which saw Will living it up in Bel-Air. It, of course, helped make Will a major star but it also brought many iconic moments such as the Carlton dance. The show is one of the funniest sitcoms to grace out screens but, what made it stand out even further is that there was a real heart to the show. You felt very close to the family (even if one of them suddenly changed appearance~) and there was real development in their lives, especially when Will & Carlton moved out. It is truly a must watch.

Blackadder defies the odds and continues to climb despite no new episodes of the show since that iconic moment of the characters going 'over the top' to their death. It highlights that the show is one of the greatest UK sitcoms and it continues to hold up many years later. Each of the four series are set in a different historical time period, the Middle Ages, the Elizabethan years, the Regency and World War I. They follow the Blackadder family throughout these periods and each Edmund Blackadder is accompanied by Baldrick. Each time period sees Blackadder get more intelligent, whilst each Baldrick decreases in intelligence. Aside from the two leads in Rowan Atkinson and Tony Robinson, the show saw many big stars join the show including, Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Tim McInnerny, Miranda Richardson, Rik Mayall and Robbie Coltrane. It is regularly hailed as one of the best British sitcoms as well as best TV show overall and it is clear that you all agree.

After loving the first couple of episodes, I became obsessed on this and watched this non-stop. The show has had many iconic characters from Sambuca to Grantly to Scout to Maggie (the latter 2 you can now see on Coroboring Street) and has tackled many issues in fantastic storylines. One long running storyline was the battles to keep the school open and other storylines included Grantly's illness and the road crash on the move to Scotland. However the quality of the programme dropped sharply unfortunately after it moved to Scotland with the only Scotland series I thought was anywhere near as good as the ones in England was the last series. Anyway it is a shame to see this amazing programme is now gone sad.gif

Sadly, the first Doctor Who related show is out now but it's done very well for what is essentially a 'children's' show. The show saw Sarah Jane Smith, a classic Doctor Who companion who is often seen as the 'ultimate' and favourite companion, team up with a bunch of teenagers to fight monsters and villains on The Doctor's behalf. Armed with her very own sonic lipstick and super-computer Mr Smith (as well as the odd appearance from K9), she fought classic Doctor Who monsters like the Slitheen and the Sontarans as well as new ones like the Trickster and the Bane. The format was very similar to classic-Who with each episode being 25 minutes long, and stories being split into two but the fast-paced nature and brilliant effects of the revived-Who were also a major highlight. The show was hailed as one of the best children's show of it's time as it helped retain so many successful elements that Doctor Who itself had created. It was more focused at kids, helped by the teenager team and lots of child-like jokes but that didn't stop the series exploring darker themes like loss. It also remarkably featured two incarnations of the Doctor with David Tennant and Matt Smith each appearing in separate stories, the latter joined by another ex-companion Jo Grant. The series had to end abruptly due to Elizabeth Sladen sadly passing away in 2011 but the show will still remain one of the biggest highlights of children's television.

Airing an impressive 18 series, the Channel 4 hit panel show all about statistics falls to 67. I wish I could give you some funny and relevant statistics here but alas that would take time. Throughout it's 10 years on our screens, two permanent fixtures have been host, Jimmy Carr and team captain, Sean Lock. Dave Spikey, Jason Manford and Jon Richardson have also appeared as the opposing team captains. It is a show that is aimed around statistics and therefore features rounds such as looking at what came the top of a poll or what answer did a certain percentage give. However, it's also a very topical show with a large proportion taking a look back at the previous week as the teams try to guess the Top 5 news topics. It's definitely one of my favourite panel/topical shows as I like the mixture of guests they get on it and Sean Lock is absolutely hilarious. One thing I do miss are the Big Brother specials which often aired during the finale when the series was on Channel 4! 8 Out of 10 Cats has been so successful that a spin-off show, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown has been airing in a full series since 2013 and has aired 8 series since then!

The phenomenom of Eurovision is felt here within the TV forums as the Swedish selection process enters in at 64th on this countdown. I've never watched the show myself but this commentary was never going to live up to Tirren's pre-show write up anyway. It has evolved into a mini-Eurovision and, indeed, the show has become almost as big as the main event on Buzzjack. Initially, the format was one big show but this has grown into a weekly event. The show sees Sweden deciding between roughly 32 different songs (all more likely to be better than the UK song of that year) in a grand weekly event. Since 2002, there have been four heats, a Second Chance round and the big final. The voting is similar to Eurovision as well, with Sweden being split into 11 regions, determined by the different news districts. Many artists enter multiple times, especially if they haven't won before, with 2014 winner, Sanna Nielsen managing to win with her 7th entry. It's one of the biggest showcases for Swedish music and it has helped Sweden to become on of the best Eurovision countries.

It has recently been revealed that America's Next Top Model will in fact be ending with the current series. That is not to undermine it's success though as 22 seasons is a fantastic number and it has been one of The CW's most successful shows. Tyra Banks has overseen all of the seasons with a number of other notable models, such as Janice Dickinson and Twiggy, also making appearances as judges. Each week, contestants are judged on their overall appearance, participation in challenges and their best shot from the week's photo shoot, with someone being eliminated each week. After the first initial shows, each contestant will also receive a makeover. Despite all it's success, the show has been criticsed for it's cruel judging and it degrading and humiliating women. Come Fly With Me was a sketch show from David Walliams and Matt Lucas, reuniting after their HUGELY successful 'Little Britain' series and it was a spoof of the documentaries 'Airport' and 'Airline'. I'm SO happy that this managed to qualify for the final and be so high as well! Praise the Lord! It sadly only aired for one series much each sketch is so memorable and SO funny, with coffee kiosk manager, Precious Little being one of my favourite sketch show characters of all time. It was a very accurate parody both in it's style and some of the characters featured, although all exaggerated of course. Personally, I feel the show is a lot more well known than you might expect for something that only ran for one series. I always see this image crop up on my Facebook:

Another well-loved show that I'm not going to do justice having never watched it is Will & Grace. The popular sitcom is suprisingly based around the relationship between Will (a gay lawyer) and Grace (a straight interior designer). It was the first primetime US series to star openly-gay lead characters and so it has been praised for improving public opinion of the LGBT community. Joe Biden, the US Vice President stated that it "probably did more to educate the American public" on LGBT issues "than almost anything anybody has ever done so far". Others have said that the sitcom used "comedy to familiarize a mainstream audience with gay culture" that was "daring and broke ground" in American media. One of the most popular characters was Grace's assistant, Karen who loves her alcohol and provides some of the best comedy moments. The show was hugely successful, managing to win 16 Emmys, with all four stars managing to win one, and a massive 83 nominations.

'S.H.I.E.L.D.' & 'Brooklyn 99'. <3 Both deserved to do far better in this. Agreed with your write up on AoS! It's definitely found it's feet a lot more since 'Captain America: Winter Soldier' and really held it's own. This season has so far been fantastic! Marvel are on a huge roll for me. 'Brooklyn 99' is filling my HIMYM void extremely nicely! Although a very different type of show, HIMYM finishing left a HUGE HOLE in my heart and B-99 came at the right time <3

'Come Fly Me' is also EXCELLENT. I really wouldn't mind if they did an hour Xmas special or something!

I'm aware that there's a lot of avid fans of The Good Wife so I apologise in advance for having never seen it before. The show is a legal and political drama that mainly uses the serialized format but has overarching story lines as well, with these coming into more prominence in its latter seasons. It sees a woman whose husband has been jailed following political corruption and a sex scandal. In order to provide for her two children, she returns to her old job as litigator. The show has been very heavily praised by critics and has managed to win 5 Emmys. It has also seen praise for its use of technology within the show, exploring many a relationship between techonology and the law. The show also sees one of Johnkm's favourite QoL's Christine Baranski in a main role.

We've seen Mock the Week earlier in the countdown but one of the stars of that show, Russell Howard, sees his own show, Good News, place higher at 59. It follows on from the nature of Mock the Week by looking back on the news of the week in a humorous way. As the title suggests, Russell tends to avoid the heavy news of the week by picking out the funny moments of the main news as well as looking to local news from all around the world. The show mainly uses the stand-up format but also includes sketches and recurring gags/clips. One feature of the show also sees a guest who has been in the news that week for an odd reason and Russell has to guess why. To live up to the show's title even more, it ends with a heart-warming story e.g. someone who has achieved an amazing feat or has helped to aid someone. Good News 'Extra' would also feature 15 minutes of stand-up from an up and coming act but this has now been dropped. It originally started off on BBC Three but Russell has now moved to BBC Two due to the closure of the former channel.

The first show that has previously come Top 10 in a previous Buzzjack TV countdown to feature this year is 'Homeland' which has suffered quite the drop. Indeed, the show was a massive talking point with it's first two seasons with many celebrities, including the US President, naming it as one of their favourite shows. It initially centred on Brody, a prisoner of war making his return to the US, being hailed as a war hero. However, Carrie Mathison, a CIA officer with bipolar disorder was the first to have her suspicions that he had actually been turned by Al-Qaeda whilst he was held captive and was working undercover for them. The show became an interesting 'is he/isn't he' before we learned the truth that Carrie's suspicions were true and the tension became whether they could stop Brody and the threat of terrorism. With many shock revelations and cliffhangers throughout the first two seasons, viewers were kept on the edge of their seat. However, there was only so long the writers could keep up the Brody storyline and, in the long run, rewriting the Season One finale to keep Brody alive led to significant problems and a very underwhelming third season that was unsure of the story it was trying to tell. A revitalised fourth season saw it back up to the quality of the first two with a focus in Pakistan, bringing back the tense scenes Homeland was known for. The fifth season is currently airing but has so far not been as good for me.

All this is underlined by Carrie's problems with coping with her bipolar disorder and her constant crying became a mixture of drama/hilarity/annoyance. There have been a number of random subplots throughout (mainly surrounding Brody's daughter Dana who was suddenly dropped following her father's departure) and it's also known for it's unbelievable plots but that's why we love it.

Sitting in a position that its winners could only dream of when it came to their debut single, The Voice UK falls next. For such a neutral show (especially in comparison to its rivals), The Voice UK has attracted a lot of controversy over the years. Admittingly, a lot of it has come from the fact that it's shown on the BBC, who have caved into pressure with the show now moving to ITV in 2017. The format was already a success all over the world (and helped bring us 'Moves Like Jagger') so it was always bound to hit UK screens. The first series brought us the megastars Tom Jones and will.i.am as well as Danny 'from the Script' and, relative newcomer back then, Jessie J. The country increased their love for will but I think it's safe to say that the show was a bad career move for Jessie, marking the start of a sort of downfall as we got to know more of her as a person. The show was a big hit with its blind auditions as they helped bring something new to our screens and it became an interesting way, after years of sob stories and joke acts, to judge someone purely on their voice. However, the problem does come once the judges, or rather COACHES, see their faces as it becomes like any other singing show albeit with a shout-off round and lower production values. All attention was focused on the finalists and how successful they would turn out to be, until the winner missed the Top 40 with her single a week later. This turned out to be a sign of things to come as with more contestants but less live shows to get to know them better, random results start to occur which means that the competition starts to become one of pot luck. Things looked set to improve when finalist Leah McFall got the show the first Top 10 single with her performance of 'I Will Survive' but a lack of support from the BBC's radio stations (as well as elsewhere) meant she didn't secure a hit following the show. Kylie, Rita and Ricky Wilson have all appeared as coaches as well but, throughout it's four series, the show has failed to produce one successful artist. Becky Hill may have scored a number one single, as well as another Top 10 but both were as featured artists and only Tyler James from the first series has secured two solo Top 40 hits with original releases. It remains to be seen what will happen with this year's winner, Stevie after his blink and you'll miss it Top 10 but I think we can assume. Next year's final BBC series will see Boy George and Paloma Faith join.

187 points also marks a big improvement on its -1 points it got the first time. laugh.gif

One of the most successful US comedies of recent years is 'Modern Family' which is still holding strong in it's seventh season. However, it's success has never really transcended properly over here, perhaps down to it only being shown on Sky. The premise of the show is that it is a mockumentary following three interrelated families. These three families represent a range of familial relationships: an old man and his young wife, a husband and wife and children and two gay men and their adopted daughter. The cast have gone on to recieve some of the highest paid fees in TV and the show has been credited for reviving the sitcom format. It's also been praised for mixture of heart and laughs and lovable characters. However, many critics have suggested a wain in quality as it has gone through the years.

One of the ultimate children's classics makes an impressive impact on this countdown. It's one of those shows that has had such a big impact that you don't need to have seen a single episode to know who Spongebob, and other characters, are. Spongebob obviously lives in a pineapple under the sea, in Bikini Bottom nonetheless, where his best friend Patrick also resides. He works at the Krusty Krab with his moody and grumpy neighbour Squidward. The show has been a HUGE success for Nickelodeon and one of the most successful children's TV shows of all time. It has spawned two films, one fully (well. mainly fully) animated in 2004 and one as recently as this year that was mainly set in the real world!

Humour is of course very subjective which is why reactions towards sitcoms can be very polar but one of the most divisive sitcoms is How I Met Your Mother. Overlooking (mine) and many people's criticism of it, the show was hugely successful, managing to last nine seasons and enabling it to reach a natural end. The revolves around the main character, Ted, telling his children in 2030 all about the events that led him to meeting their mother (shock). This allows different storytelling techniques allowing events to be told from multiple points of view or forgotten names to be blanked out. As has been said, the show is very divisive but the finale went even further with many criticising that it went against the whole premise of the show and contradicted many previous episodes.

Thankfully, one of my favourite ever sitcoms has beat that thing in 54. The IT Crowd highlights how good British comedy can be as it's something that could never work in the US and, yes, they've tried attempted to do so. It's mainly focuses on the IT Department of a successful company, with the deparment made up of Jen, someone who knows nothing about computers and Roy and Moss, two computer geeks. The head of Reynholm Industries is also a main character, with Denholm starring in the first series and his son taking over in the other series. The cast work so well together and there is at least a laugh a minute. The show thrives of odd situations and it's at its best when things escalate beyond the point of no return. One of my favourite episodes, based around Gay: A Gay Musical is a perfect example of this where Roy decides to use the disabled toilet which, through a chain of events, leads to him being in a minibus that has an end destination of many miles away. Another highlight episode is one that is based around Countdown, where it portrays a secret member winner's club, inspired by Fight Club. Every episode is ultimately a highlight though and the quality never slips up, in fact you may even say it improves as time goes on. The cast returned for one final episode in 2013, seeing them become viral stars for all the wrong reasons as well as Jen still believing the entire internet was in one box.

The show that helped bring 'I'm ready' to our attention, Harry Hill manages to make it to 52nd place despite scraping through in a second tiebreaker. At it's peak, TV Burp brought us a very clever and observational look at the past week of TV, pointing out all the humorous bits we all may have missed as well as taking clips out of context to add a level of unintentional humour. It also helped to highlight some rather odd shows, 'Freaky Eaters' being one that became a regular and it helped bring 5 more minutes of fame to someone obscure who had featured in show that week, having them feature as a special guest or singing the audience out at the end. As the show got more popular though it stated to lose it's charm and you could tell Harry was getting tired doing it. It became a lot more silly and far less observational with running gags unnecessarily forced to the point that it became predictable. I mean, the Amanda Lamb song anyone? As I said, in its hayday it was one of the funniest TV shows and showed Harry can actually be funny, something he hasn't achieved since.

But which regular character was better Wagbo or The Knitted Character, there's only one way to find out...FIGHTTTT.

Perhaps one of the most controversial shows ever is South Park. It is an made in the week that the shows airs, helping it to remain VERY topical. Don't let the animation fool you as this is a show that is definitley for adults with it's dark, crude humour. It's also very satirical and has been known to have some form of social commentary underneath. The show has helped maintain its success throughout the years and while it's cultural peak was probably in the late 90s, (where it helped score a UK No. 1 with 'Chocolate Salty Balls'), it is still securing high ratings today and has been renewed until at least 2019. It follows four fourth graders, Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny ending up in bizarre situations. One of the most famous episodes surrounds Kanye West and fish sticks/fish dicks but the biggest controversy that surrounded the show was when it depicted Muhammed. The repeated death of Kenny is also one of the elements that the show is known for and it became a major plot point in its only feature film 'South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut'.

Glee experienced one of the biggest rise and falls of the last few years in terms of popularity (even bigger than that the rise and fall of Lee Wallace). It exploded onto our screens in 2009 in a post-High School Musical world featuring a cast of outcasts and misfits plus the usual popular guy joining together to create a Glee club. It's of course most notable for the endless list of songs the show covered which, during its heyday of the first two seasons, featured in charts worldwide. Any popular/notable song is guaranteed to have featured in the show, yes even Rebecca Black's 'Friday'. Certain episodes also had musical themes such as Britney and Madonna. The most notable song to emerge from the show though is their cover of 'Don't Stop Believing', which featured in the pilot. It is by far the show's best selling song and created a world where it and the original were completely inescapable. Aside from the music, the show also focused and highlighted on many social issues, particularly relating to teenagers. The group of misfits helped the show to explore homosexuality, teenage pregnancy, bullying, disability, relationships etc. The show was a phenomenon in it's initial first few years but it couldn't sustain this with the show completely fading out in its fifth and sixth seasons with little fanfare. I've seen a lot of comments that the quality nosedived after the first couple of seasons and the sad death Cory Monteith did not help. Despite its nosedive in popularity, it will be remembered as a cultural success and the Glee Cast do have the most appearances on the Billboard Hot 100, whether you count it as cheating or not.

Gavin & Stacey is one of the prime examples of why BBC Three can excel and therefore should not be axed. It was initially shown on the channel before its brilliant success led to it being broadcast on BBC One for its final series. The show follows Gavin, from Essex and Stacey, from Wales, from their first meeting right through to after-marriage life. What makes the show special is the focus on the two families and therefore the show focuses on key events that bring the two families together. It is this focus on the two families that helps us to follow other storylines such as Smithy and Nessa's relationship. The show was written by James Cordon and Ruth Jones, who both star in the show as well, and helped bring significant prominence to the two despite some previous successes. Most notably, James is now hosting a late night talk show in the US. As with many other successful British comedies, the show highlights the best of British humour which is why two US remakes have failed. It is hard to imagine the show without its Essex and Welsh characteristics.

From one multichannel hit to another, Misfits is one of E4's most successful drama's of the past few years. Based around a group of young adults in a community service programme, the show explores how they deal with supernatural powers. These include telepathy, invisibility and immortality. Again, it is a very British at the heart and features some often very dark comedy. One of the highlights of the first couple of series was the character of Nathan who had some great lines, most are probably not suitable to say here. Each episode mainly focused around battling another person who had obtained a power, my personal favourite was one who saw life in Grand Theft Auto-style! As with most things, it struggled once the original characters started to leave and whilst, Rudy was still very good, he lacked what made Nathan so hilarious. Kelly was my ultimate favourite though, possibly providing my favourite moment of the entire series when she changed her power to be a rocket scientist. Overall, the show was great, helping to mix comedy and tense plotting together to create something never quite seen before.

Back in the days when he wasn't expanding some of the biggest science-fiction brands, JJ Abrams was creating his own sci-fi series. I'm not really sure how to describe the main basis of the show but it focuses on scientific abnormalities. It mainly follows the procedural format with a new investigation each week but as the series went on, it paint a broader overarching story that began to become the main focus. The main team consists of Olivia Dunham, a Government agent, Dr Walter Bishop, a 'mad' scientist and his son, Peter Bishop as well as Astrid. The series explores many scientific elements, particularly that of parallel universes which becomes central to the main story. In particular, we learn of the Observers who watch over all of these and end up playing a crucial part. Initially though, they aren't featured too heavily but still manage to make small cameos in each episode which is something to look out for! There's a lot that features in the show and it's a good balance of procedural and serialized. The parallel universes also allow an interesting look at each character and how consequences of certain actions can easily affect someone. There were also fun experimental episodes with one particular animation episode standing out as a series highlight. The show also features legendary Star Trek actor, Leonard Nomoy. It started out particularly successful in the ratings but as more scientific elements were introduced, it became more of a niche show but thankfully Fox stuck with it and allowed it to tell the full story it wanted to.

It's only writing this (and I haven't really done it justice) when I realise how much actually went on over the five series and it really makes me want to go back and watch it now!

American Dad is often overshadowed by it's sister show, Family Guy but can often be just as good if not better! It differs from that show due to there featuring no cutaway gags and focuses more on the realism of the family members. The father, Stan, is a CIA agent who lives with his wife and their hippy daughter and nerdy son as well as an alien called Roger. Roger obviously adds a more eccentric aspect to it and he is indeed eccentric himself, often found dressing up in some bizarre costume, creating some alter-ego. It's received modest ratings throughout its run which has since seen it move channel but the future still looks good.

It's a shock fall after two times in the Top 10 though!

I've never seen this show so have no idea why this is so high although I am aware Raven is an icon with her sass. So apparently Raven had psychic powers and used this as well as 'ingenuity, talent as a fashion designer and a variety of disguises to get into and out of amusing adolescent and pre-adolescent situations.' It was a massive hit for the Disney Channel, becoming one of the highest rated and longest running shows. It resulted in a spin-off, Cory in the House.

'Fringe' is technically very good and while I enjoyed most of it, I did go in and out of interest with it as the story archs started overlapping and the faux-characters were introduced. Still some brilliant moments throughout though.

Alan Carr is one of the only comedians who is guaranteed to make me laugh everytime which is why I love his chat show, 'Chatty Man', so much. What perhaps makes the show more interesting/funny than other chat shows is Alan's infamous drinks globe which gets his guests, as well as him, very drunk. This allows guests to loosen up and creates a more relaxed atmosphere, allowing for some unexpected things to happen. Some notable moments have included John Cleese's bizarre behaviour, leading to him repeatedly throwing stuff at Alan and, more recently, Grace Jones engaging in some intimate stuff with Alan. It's a show that never fails to make me laugh and I just wish it was on every week of the year!

Next up is another long-running UK comedy show, this time though it's a panel/gameshow. Celebrity Juice helped bring the character of Keith Lemon, who hosts the show, to bigger prominence after he previously appeared in Bo Selecta. The team captains have mainly been best friends Holly Willoughby and Fearne Cotton but their pregnancies have led to Kelly Brook and Gino D'Acampo also filling in, the latter has become a regular panellist and has seen him legally add Sheffield as his middle name. As the title suggests, the show is largely based on celebrities and places a big focus on the panellists as well. It's notoriously crude in it's humour and features some very bizarre games and challenges, which can include licking marmalade out of an old man's belly button...

Another panel show next but this is the complete polar opposite of Celebrity Juice so it's funny to see them side-by-side in this countdown! QI is a lot more intellectual show, where you will learn a lot of interesting facts. Indeed, you will learn that a lot of stuff you may believe are actually myths. This lies at the centre of the show as saying the obvious wrong answer will give you minus points, meaning that it's often an achievement for anyone to end up with plus points at the end. Points will be awarded for interesting answers as well though, even if they are not right. So far, there have been 13 series, each has its episodes focusing on subjects beginning with the letter for that series, ie Series 1 was letter A and the latest one was letter M. This means the show is halfway through the alphabet which host Stephen Fry saw as the appropriate time to leave. He will be replaced by fellow intellectual Sandi Tolsveig whilst Alan Davies will stay on as permanent panellist. So far, Bill Bailey has appeared as a panellist the most times, with 38 appearances, Jo Brand, Phil Jupitus, Jimmy Carr, Sean Lock and David Mitchell are also regulars.

Ugly Betty is another US TV show that launched with a lot of hype and success but was unable to sustain this over its run. It was also one of the shows caught up in the Writers strike in 2007. The show sees kind-hearted and upbeat Betty landing a job as an assistant to the editor of a fashion magazine, despite having no fashion sense at all, with her in a poncho becoming one of the iconic images of the show. The main reason for her hiring was that the editor, Daniel, would not sleep with her but, ultimately, the move is beneficial both to the magazine and Daniel himself. Betty and Daniel become unlikely friends, helping each other in their biggest troubles. Wilhelmina also works at the magazine and is out for Daniel's job and will do anything to get at it, whilst her assistant Marc and secretary, Amanda, provide some reliable comedy moments. Aside from the comedy bitchiness and outlandish schemes, there's a strong family element to the show, particularly coming from Betty's family, with Betty trying to balance her job and being the rock of her family.

"The Bouquet residence, the lady of the house speaking." Despite not airing a single episode since 1995, Keeping Up Appearances remarkably continues it's climb up the countdown. It's another classic British sitcom centred around the middle class social climber, Hyacinth Bucket (pronounced Bouquet) and her attempts to gain superiority. Its more problematic in practice though due to her working class background and the traditional out of the ordinary sitcom scenarios. It had a successful run of five series but stopped after Patricia Routledge wanted to explore other characters and work.

11 years later and Come Dine With Me is still on UK television and still managing to hold up impressive ratings (X Factor take note). he show has either four or five amateur chefs competing against each other hosting a dinner party for the other contestants. Each competitor then rates the host's performance with the winner winning a £1,000 cash prize. Come Dine With Me travels throughout the UK and it's always hilarious to see my hometown Dundee shown (my enemy Hanna Wilson appeared on it, she was a bitch. see link) It's not difficult to see why Come Dine With Me is so popular as people of all ages enjoy watching it. I for one appreciate the show which is mainly down to the shows narrator Dave Lamb. Dave Lamb is by far the best thing about the show through his dry and sarcastic narration of the contestants.

Now, Gogglebox is something that really shouldn't work and, on paper, seems to be the lowest of the low in television but there's something so charming and hilarious about it that it's the perfect end of the week viewing. The show of course sees a group of families from all different backgrounds watch some highlights of the weeks television and shows their various reactions. They often say what's on your mind, bring a different perspective on things or just out right come out with some of the funniest things. It really is an entertaining watch and helps you engage real life reactions. Having the same familes throughout the series is also a big part of its charm as you feel like you get to know them and helps to make their reactions all the better. The Graham Norton show stared on BBC2 in February 2007 before moving to BBC1 on the 5th October 2009. The Graham Norton show is a ratings success for BBC1 which allows the show to book bigger stars in comparison to Jonathan Ross show and Alan Carr. The Graham Norton show has provided Norton with five BAFTA TV awards which doesn't surprise me as he guarantees to make me laugh through his innuendo-laden dialogue and flamboyant presentation style. Graham Norton not only presents his own show, he's a BBC Radio 2 presenter as well as the BBC television commentator of the Eurovision Song Contest. The thing that I adore most about the Graham Norton show is the incredibly famous red chair which has created notable moments with one of the highlights being when Adele took charge of the chair! Each celebrity that appear on the show get as excited as myself when the red chair moment arrives with it never failing to deliver. Another moment that stands out for myself is The Saturdays performing 'Notorious' and Pixie Lott performing 'My Love'! In all seriousness, how could anyone forget the infamous Mark Wahlberg moment? I've never seen somebody so intoxicated on a chat show which makes it incredible viewing. DISGUSTED at The Good Wife being that low, especially with all this reality drivel and chat shows so high. Apparently the best written show on TV is less good than Alan Carr gurning his way through an hour of TV. INSANITY.

I believe I've also lost most of my top 10 at this point too, which is probably to be expected but still IRKSOME.

Similarly to American Dad, Futurama has always been overshadowed by it's creator's other animation but that is not to say the quality is inferior. As you may guess from the title, Futurama is based in the future (the 31st Century) and we get to see this through the eyes of Fry, a pizza delivery boy who has been cryogenically frozen unwittingly. Teaming up with one-eyed Leela, robot Bender and a whole other range of misfits, the show is as odd, yet hilarious as its counterpart, The Simpsons. It features a world full of robots, heads in Jars, aliens, aka everything you would expect from a science fiction animation. The show managed an initially successful run on Fox before its cancellation but its legacy lived on, with four films being made in 2008, leading to two further full series being made by Comedy Central. Whilst it recently saw a crossover with The Simpsons, the show has currently ended for the second time.

American Horror Story is an American Horror television series produced and written by Ryan Murphy (Glee, Scream Queens). I'm a massive follower of American Horror Story as it's a television series that never fails to surprise me. It took me a while to jump on the bandwagon but after watching Series 1 (Murder House) I began binge watching all four series on Netflix. My favourite series remains 'Asylum' which I found sick, sadistic, intriguing and nothing short of remarkable. Ryan Murphy never fails to push the boundaries which is why I enjoy American Horror Story and Scream Queens so much. The current series may not be a ratings success but 'Hotel' continues to keep me interested in the show with it's shocking storylines and mind blowing twists. I can understand that American Horror Story might not be everybody's cup of tea but I'd advise anyone to give season 1,2,3 a go with the less being said about Freak Show the better. American Horror Story has a tendency to have the same actresses and actors with the most famous being Emma Roberts Jessica Lange who has received the most awards and nominations for her various performances in the series.

Little Britain was a British character-based comedy sketch show which was first broadcast on BBC radio and then turned into a television show. It was written and performed by comic duo David Walliams and Matt Lucas. I grew up watching Little Britain which provided myself with annoying yet iconic catchphrases such "No but yeah but", "Am I Bovered", "Yeah, I know" and my favourite "Computer says No". Little Britain provided myself such incredible amusement to myself making it an unmissable television programme, creating unforgettable characters in Vicki Pollard, Carol Beer, Andy and Margery. The favourite scenes are undeniably at Fat Fighters, I love how much Little Britain got away with such body shaming comments (Adele) which would clearly be frowned upon these days. The comedy provided by Walliams and Lucas is derived from the British audience's self-deprecating understanding of either themselves or people known to them. The show was also a huge ratings success, receiving an average of 9.5 million viewers.

Despite airing just 10 episodes over 6 years, Sherlock has been one of the biggest and most successful British TV dramas. Its two leads, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman have also seen their careers take off stratospherically, landing roles in some of Hollywood's biggest films. So much so that it's nice to see that they're still committed to the small screen. The series places Sherlock in the modern era after endless adaptations that were still set in the Victorian style. It's this element that helped make it stand out as well as some of the most clever and engaging writing seen on television. You're never certain of where the episode will take you next, as seen most clearly in the latest special, with many twists, turns and different storytelling techniques taking place. It retains the essence of the characters but it still remains as one of the most ground-breaking detective series of modern times. The whole style of the show is perfect and is perhaps why my favourite episode is still 'A Study in Pink', the first episode, as I wasn't sure what to expect but was blown away. The quality for me has dipped with the most recent series but it still has the world at its feet. Just about everyone wanted to know just how Sherlock did survive back in 2012.

Celebrity Big Brother may have become the more popular and successful show but it is out before the original, Big Brother. Britain loves a good celebrity show and this has been one of the biggest and most controversial, with one particular series starring Jade Goody creating headlines across the world. It has provided some of the biggest and best reality TV moments including George Galloway's cat impersonation, Vanessa Feltz's meltdown and 'yeah, Jackie'. Whilst it may never have started with the biggest A-list celebs, the calibre since its move to Channel 5 has somewhat drifted towards VERY minor 'celebs' in order to give a bigger push for drama. This means that simply starring in a one-off documentary is enough to enter the Celebrity Big Brother house (hi.gif Danica) and the lines between that and normal Big Brother have become very blurred. However, it has meant that it's provided us with some even more (and BETTER) explosive and dramatic moments that will have us tearing our hair out yet still have us watching every second. The most recent January series have also bucked the trend of diminishing returns by increasing its viewership as we become entagled in a love triangle relationship, explore a long-lasting Jim Davidson/Linda Nolan feud as well as see two of the most hated 'celebrities', Perez Hilton and Katie Hopkins, battle it out. There are so many more highlights to mention, such as 'am I your boss now?', 'who wants the cake?', Julie Goodyear's don't give a shit attitude, Denise Welch's antics and so much more. It's trash TV, with the tiniest hint of class, at its best.

Broadchurch became a massive talking point of the nation back in 2013 as we all asking, 'Who Killed Danny Latimer?' The series followed the investigation of a murder of Danny Latimer, an 11 year old boy who lived in a close-knot seaside town. The beautiful scenery is not all the show had going for it as the excellent writing and performances meant we were all hooked, suspecting every single character who spoke a line. This all despite the writer not wanting the show to become a whodunit, wishing to focus more on how the murder effected the community, allowing us to see how each character would react. Indeed, this helped make the show all the more special, as we saw how the media reacted, how the family would react, how friends would react etc. The show was (apparently) designed as a trilogy, with a second series announced after the first series' finale due to it being one of ITV's biggest drama hits in years. This second series, to put it bluntly, was not as good with the murder trial becoming a bit confused as it threw out the legal rule-book, turning the trial into something that appeared as though the lawyers were making it up as they went along. Alongside this, was the investigation into a previous case by DI Alec Hardy (played by David Tennant) but, the lack of focus meant we were nowhere near as engaged in it as we were with the murder of Danny Latimer. It still shouldn't overshadow how excellent the first series was, especially as the second one was still very enjoyable. The cast have played their parts perfectly over both series, and Olivia Colman's crying scene is one of the best pieces of TV in the last few years.

Despite airing just 12 episodes, Fawlty Towers has been hailed as one of (if not the) best British sitcom, and even the best British series, of all time. It is set in a hotel, 'Fawlty Towers', owned by Basil, a rude, overly aggressive person who is trying to turn around his hotel with unfortunate consequences. A lot of the humour arises from this as well as coincidences, misunderstandings, cross-purposes and missed and accidental meetings. The rest of the main cast are Basil's wife, Sybil, waitress Polly and Spanish waiter, Manuel. The decision to stop at two series has been praised as an effective means to stop any potential diminishing returns and was seen with other iconic comedy shows like The Office, Extras and The Young Ones.

Top of the Pops is another landmark show that lasted for over 40 years and it's legacy still continues with annual Christmas editions as well as regular repeats of old editions and performances with Top of the Pops 2. It has been somewhat tainted due to revelations about a certain presenter but it's still remembered as one of Britain's greatest music shows. The show revolved around the counting down of that week's chart countdown with many live performances of songs in the chart. Cliff Richard has appeared 160 times, holding the record for the most performances and Status Quo were the most frequent group with 106 performances. It did come into fire a few times for the use of miming by artists and another notable aspect of the show was it's use of dance troupes, with Pan's People being the most memorable. It's popularity did wain over the years, and, if I remember correctly, there were less live performances towards the end of the show's run but it still holds a very special place in many people's hearts and there are always calls for it to return.

Initially based on a French & Saunders sketch, Absolutely Fabulous stars Jennifer Saunders as a PR agent who is desperate to stay young and cool and Joanna Lumley as her best friend. Both are heavy drinkers and drug abusers. The show has seen many celebrity cameos, including Helena Bonham Carter, Whoopi Goldberg and Kate Moss, who mostly all appear as themselves. It's another show that is a regular on 'Best Of...' lists and it's success has allowed it return in 2001, 2004 and for three specials airing between 2011-12. Following all this, a movie will also be released this year!

One of the biggest and most successful reality shows is 'I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!', a show that has aired since 2002 and is still amongst the highest rating TV shows today. The premise is that 'celebrities' are living in the jungle with only each other, and lots of bugs, for company. The main success has come from its 'Bushtucker Trials' which involve plenty of bugs and creatures. These can involve being buried alive, being contained in boxes, being underwater, being high up in the air, being through underground tunnels, all with the company of crabs, snakes, green ants and thousands of cockroaches. One of the biggest talking points though are the eating trials where the celebrities eat a whole range of disgusting things such as witchety grubs and every single body part that you can think of. Another regular challenge is the Celebrity Chest/Dingo Dollar Challenges where celebrities must complete mundane and time-wasting tasks in the hope of winning simple things like bread and jam. Another huge part of the show's success is the presenters Ant & Dec, two national treasures, whose corny jokes throughout each episode bring a very joyous tone to the whole show and it wouldn't be the same without them. Notable moments have included the start of Katie Price & Peter Andre's relationship, Paul Burrell's screams, Dean Gaffney's live trial, a whole cast walkout and Gemma Collin's departure after 3 days.

I'm A Celeb is terrible now, always thought it was a tad overrated but I hate how everyone spaffs over it when the same people (not on here, I see it a lot in real life) slate Big Brother, X-Factor etc for being predictable!

Glad to see normal Big Brother ahead of CBB, obviously it's nowhere near the same now but at its prime it was untouchable really <3

'Torchwood' was a spin-off TV series to the hugely popular 'Doctor Who' which starred Captain Jack Harkness as the leader of a group of alien hunters, consisting of Gwen Cooper, Owen Harper, Toshiko Sato and Ianto Jones. It was intended for a more adult audience and therefore took a more darker tone, the first series perhaps saw the adult tone most explicitly but the darker tone is something that is heavily seen throughout. The themes of death and loss were heavily prominent and we also saw sex monsters, cannibalism and fightclubs, things the main series had never explored for obvious reasons. Whilst the two series were excellent, roughly following a different story with each story, the third series was were the show really excelled, bringing five of the best TV hours ever seen. It mixed in elements of a political thriller alongside the sci-fi nature of the show, telling a single story over five episodes across one week. It heavily focused on the possibilities of how a Government would react to an alien invasion and it took a VERY dark view of this. Sadly, the fourth series, which saw a team up with an American TV channel, is the huge low point of the series in general. The lack of an real enemy for the majority of the episodes meant there wasn't really much of a threat. The success of the show was highly impressive, being able to be independent and a huge success outside of it's parent show as shown by the 'upgrading' of channels with each series. It was an excellent series that stood up in it's own right, exploring various different themes.

Where do I even start? Lost is probably one of the biggest shows of the century with a huge cultural impact. The initial premise is a plane crash on an island but as the series progresses, the mysteries start to grow and grow. We learn that the island is not unihabited and that the island itself is extraordinary, being able to move and travel in time. The storylines may be fairly confusing, moreso towards the latter few series but you're desperate to keep watching in the hope to see what happens. What is perhaps overlooked in favour of people claiming it's too confusing/there's too many mysteries, is the amazing character element. The use of flashbacks mean that we're able to explore each character in depth and learn their strengths and weaknesses and various other personality traits. It enables the show to become a real ensemble piece rather than just focusing on two/three characters, allowing us to really care for each of them. It allows elements like the flashforwards and flash...sideways to really work beyond their initially bizarre premise. Ultimately, we may not have got all the answers we were looking for, and the finale was ALWAYS going to be one of the most divisive pieces of TV because the show itself was so big and so many people were so invested which is a true testament to everyone working on it. For me, the second half of the show didn't hold up as well as the first half as it perhaps became too heavily invested in the mysteries and confusion but it will always be one of my favourite and most engaging TV shows.

This is another hugely popular sitcom which I really don't like but I'll carry on anyway... The sitcom focuses on four 'geeks' who are best friends but are all socially awkward. The show initially focused on the 'hot girl next door' and over time, other girls have been introduced as love interests as their social skills improve. Many of the jokes therefore are focused on science as well as sci-fi, fantasy and comics. I personally don't find the show that funny but it's probably more down to the laughter track going off every two seconds. I can't deny the HUGE success of the show though, consistently topping ratings in the US and breaking records for E4 here in the UK. It means the cast have secured huge payments for each episode, with the main three stars earning at least $1 million per episode.

Dawn French manages to beat her former sketch show partner here in terms of who has the better comedy, with The Vicar of Dibley landing in joint 23rd. The show of course follows a Vicar, played by French, in small countryside village, following the Church of England allowing female vicars. It means that the Vicar, with her enthusiastic and caring personality, is surrounded by old men, allowing for various opportunities for jokes. It's another show that is always appearing in Best Of lists and it seems like you lot agree. The everlasting success has meant it has returned for a few specials along the years, notably for charity events like Comic Relief.

Another UK sitcom here, this time a more modern one but still one that is no longer on air! It's run in these type of countdowns has been impressively consistent! Outnumbered was initially tucked away in the BBC schedules but the huge popularity of the semi-improvisational nature meant that it soon took a prime place, becoming one of their biggest shows. Whilst Hugh Dennis and Claire Skinner were excellent in their roles as the parents, the true success lay in the children, who didn't receive the scripts and instead were given last minute instructions by the writers, allowing a form of improvisation which allowed the humour to be more natural and therefore more funny. Karen was the true star of the show for me, with her questions but Ben was also hilarious with his more unusual boyish nature. Sadly, as with everything, good things come to an end and the latter series weren't as enjoyable or funny because the kids had grown up. The show is still a unique series though and will be fondly remembered in many years to come.

Over the past few years, we have seen various streaming sites move towards original programming. Netflix takes the lead in this and Orange is the New Black was one of their first forays into original programming and it appears that it has become their most successful. The nature of streaming sites allow for more experimental shows to be made as they are not so heavily dependant on advertising/ratings but the experiments can pay off. OITNB is set in a women's prison, revolving mainly around Piper but it also focuses on her fellow prisoners. The show uses the flashback format to help, like with Lost, explore the character and the reason to why they have ended up in prison. The show has been a leader for greater diversity, with most of the cast obviously being female but there are also black, lesbian and transgender cast members. It has been hugely praised by critics due to its mix of comedy, depiction of characters and its emotional drama. It shows that some of the biggest successes often do come from gambles.

One of, if not the biggest show currently is 'The Walking Dead' and it manages to reach the Top 20 here! The show is based on a comic book series and it focuses on a post-apocalyptic world that is overrun with zombies. We see the world through a sheriff deputy, Rick Grimes as he reunites with his family and the 'gang' they have joined up with. The show is notorious for its twists and turns and is not afraid to kill off its characters which is why it's hard to talk about the show without potential spoilers, even though I've only seen the first three seasons currently. Personally, I've not yet got into it as much as others have, and its currently the only show with three maximum scores, but the show contains some fantastic writing, particular in regards to 'The Governor'. The show continues to gain record ratings with each season and a spin-off exploring the outbreak has recently started to air.

Britain's Got Talent is another mammoth reality giant and it's popularity has been impressively sustained over the years. The show of course was brought to us by Simon Cowell and its initial years saw Piers Morgan join Amanda Holden and Cowell as judges. A brief blip occurred following the departure of the two men but the show found its feet again with a panel of Cowell, Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams. Presented by Ant & Dec, the show focuses on variety, meaning you should expect the unexpected. Or rather, expect the occasional unexpected alongside singers (largely opera) and dance troupes. We've seen everything from DJ Talent, a father & son dancing topless, eye-poppers and reguritators. The show has helped to discover/bring prominence to many talented acts but the biggest success story, and one of the biggest reality moments ever, is Susan Boyle. Millions and millions of people watched her audition on YouTube as we learned that we judge unnecessarily. Whilst she didn't win, she managed to transform those views into millions of sales, becoming a massive hit in the US. The show is a lot more fun than it's ITV counterpart and is one of the main reasons for its success!

For 8 years, Desperate Housewives was one of the biggest shows on TV. Relying on an expansive ensemble cast, the show was set in a surburban neighbourhood and focused on the lives who lived there. The main focus surrounded on the secrets and mysteries that were lying there, with each season having it's own overarching mystery storyline, mainly surrounding a new family who has moved into the street. The show also focused on the lives of the four main female characters, exploring their highs and lows, with each suffering from their own troubles such as affairs and finance problems, and no one suffered more than Lynette. The show brought plenty of shocks and surprises but there was also a comedy aspect to the show due to the behaviour of the housewives. Each episode was narrated by a character, Mary Alice, who had been killed off in the first episode. She was often the one to reveal the secrets with her narration at the start of each episode taking on a different meaning at the end. The show had enormous ratings in its early years and they were still impressive towards the shows end, particularly following a 5 year time jump with Season 5.

The daytime quiz giant, Pointless, manages to reach the Top 20! The show features a very simplistic but a creative and winning format. Turning Family Fortunes onto its head, players are tasked with 'finding the most obscure answers to general knowledge questions based on pre-conducted public surveys of 100 people from the UK'. The less people who have said the same answer, the better and if no one siad the same answer as the contestant, they will have a pointless answer and add money to the jackpot. In order to win the show, they must find one of these pointless answers in the final round. It adds another layer to the quiz show, rather than just finding a correct answer, it must also be an obscure one! The show is very easy to play along with at home with has enhanced its popularity. It has also made a star out of the show's creator, Richard Osman, who helps to provide the facts and figures. I initially enjoyed the show but I found Alexander repeating each question twice (and stating the blanks each time in rounds like 'p_i_t_e_s') annoying, but I have warmed to the show again as I think they've started to sort that out. You can't deny its popularity and it has become one of the biggest daytime shows, as well as a Saturday night hit with its celebrity edition!

BGT is one of those shows I seem to watch on catch-up on a Sunday because nothing is on all day and I end up watching Satuday night's TV, and then I think "I might as well watch the live shows", if that makes sense laugh.gif I guess it's ok but I get fed of it tbh and find that I don't mind it finishing when the end comes, I don't miss it.

OITNB is an incredibly written and crafted show, the first two seasons were flawless. Season 3 was a bit iffy (particularly the scene they chose to end it on) but it's pretty much always on top form. Outnumbered is one of my fave sitcoms too, just brilliant!

Posted by: burbe Jan 24 2016, 06:42 PM

BGT is probably my favourite (of the talent shows I should say) because it's just fun and much less intense than the other shows. The pure reason for the show is entertainment and you rarely see much of the competition aspect. Also, the judging line-up has been perfect which I guess is why there's been no changes for 5 series now. BGT has the tone of the show just right and the right line-up of judges; something which X Factor has failed to do with a while.

The Catherine Tate Show' was a sketch show featuring many an iconic and hilarious character. The most famous of which is probably Lauren Cooper, with the phrase 'Am I Bovvered?' becoming engrained in our culture and a Comic Relief sketch even saw Tony Blair utter the words. Then you have Nan, an old woman who holds nothing back and is the opposite of political correctness. The character has seen four full-length specials over the years, highlighting the popularity of the main show itself. My personal highlights away from these two characters were, of course, the posh family (particularly the now Buzzjack infamous 'Gooseberry and Cinnamon yoghurt' sketch) and the translator sketch! There was also the long-running ginger sketch which saw things like 'Gingers for Justice' and the Ginger safe house. The show was incredibly popular and deservedly so because it's consistently hilarious throughout and one of the funniest ever shows for me!

Parks and Recreation is a mockumentary style sitcom based in a Parks and Recreation department in the fictional town of Pawnee. There's a wide range of talent within the show and its not hard to see why most of its stars have gone on to see further success. Amy Poehler particularly shines as Leslie Knope, a woman who loves to work and has high aspirations. The character of Ron Swanson though is my favourite as he is the complete opposite to Leslie as he tries to bring down the government from the inside. He couldn't care less about his job and I love his glances to the camera. It's for these reasons why I also love his assistant, April. The show works well with its documentary style but it is the ensemble cast that really help to make it stand out and be hilarious. There's not really one character that isn't needed as they all help to offer something, they're all hilarious and they all work well together. It's one of the funniest US sitcoms that I've seen on many different levels!

The Inbetweeners is one of, if not THE, biggest shows that E4 has produced as teenagers/young adults everywhere related to the lives of four best mates. The sitcom follows the lives of these four very 'ordinary' teenagers who are neither the cool kids nor the uncool kids, rather they are the inbetweeners. Many a cringeworthy moment arises though as they to live how others their age live. Their attempts at underage drinking, getting with girls and becoming the cool kids all have hilarious results. These including puking on a crush's little brother, a ~private part~ hanging out in front of an audience, insulting a group with Down Syndrome and ensuring all your classmates are chucked out of a pub. It's hard not to keep a straight face during the show and it is one of the best shows to explore teenage life. The four main characters all have their different personalities which means each guy is likely to relate to one of them. (Neil is the best though) As with many critically aclaimed comedys, the show quit while it was ahead by ending with its third series. The demand was still huge though leading to two very successful films (although, while the second was great, the storyline meant it should have ended with the first film imo). Quotes from the show are also regularly heard from its target generation several years after it ended.

The KING of reality TV perhaps surprises by falling out of the Top 10 despite a large Buzzjack fanbase. I'll try not to get too carried away in this commentary (edit: i did) but the show has become absolutely essential viewing for me. It helps generate a whole wide range of emotions and, yes, anger and frustration are two that can crop up often, with these becoming aimed at the producers more and more~ The show at its heart is about putting individuals from all different backgrounds into a house, supposedly cut off from the outside world with cameras placed everywhere to see how they react by living with each other. Each week one of them will be evicted by a public vote until a winner is crowned. When it first premiθred, the show was one of the first on UK TV to use this method of the public influencing what happens in the house, hence the 'Who goes? You decide!' catchphrase that seems a bit tired after public voting is very, VERY commonplace these days. In the early days, it stuck rigidly to its essential format and it was an instant hit, with the public becoming hooked particularly at Nasty Nick's escapades. Indeed, it was one of Channel 4's biggest ever hit, achieving highs of 8/9m and making stars out of its housemates. In particular, one of the biggest reality TV celebrities was the late Jade Goody who managed to make millions after her appearance on the show. As the show went on, it introduced more and more twists to help spice things up and create more drama and entertaining television. After an edition which has since been named BB4 become the show's most boring series, the producers spiced things up with BB5 where Big Brother went evil. Essential TV was made following the show's first fake eviction where two housemates went to a bedsit after being 'evicted' to watch their fellow housemates every move. It led to the show's most notorious episode with FIGHT NIGHT where security had to be called in and two housemates were removed. It was this series which many see as the start of the golden period of the show as the twists helped the show remain fresh and incredibly entertaining viewing. BB7 in particular is my personal favourite and it saw one of the most loved housemates in Nikki Grahame whose diary room rants were hilarious. After this though, housemates can across too much like wannabes with BB8 in particular starring a few too many people desperate for the fame (Shabnam </3). This, matched with the inevitable tiring of a show as well as the CBB5 incident, led to a sharp fall in the show's popularity and Channel 4 decided to end it in 2010 with an special Ultimate Big Brother that saw past housemates return.

However, Channel 5 became the UK's saviour by bringing it back to our screens but not without some changes. It became more cleverly edited and there was a lot more focus on younger people, with nearly every housemate being under 30. Each of the five series has been quite distinct with BB12 being about the showmances, BB13 being about two groups pitted against each other, BB14 just being perfect, BB15 just being NASTY and BB16 throwing the rule book out of the window. This latter element has actually been a theme throughout the Channel 5 series with producers trying to maintain the casual viewers interest by engineering drama and trying to secure the bigger characters safety. BB13 saw the housemates being allowed to talk about nominations from the start for the first ever time which was stopped shortly after due to it not really working with the UK format. BB14 introduced an overarching theme to the series with 'Secrets and Lies', which had essentially become the backbone of the show over time with the twists and turns. There were a couple of tweaks to the nomination aspect, paving the way for normal nominations to actually BECOME a twist in BB15 and BB16. Once an essential element of the show, it is now rare for the housemates not to nominate face-to-face, not to see their housemates nominating in the Diary Room or for some other random twist to feature. There have been a few too many twists in the latter years, as well as a complete load of outside contact available and while BB15 was awful, the other Channel 5 series have produced some great moments and it's great that the show is still even on our screens.

Over 16 years, we've seen rants, romance, fights, fake evictions, a fake pregnancy and an incident with a wine bottle amongst many, many, MANY other moments and I wouldn't have it any other way.

As for BB everyone seems to love it, I do like it, but when I really think about it I think "why do I like this?" laugh.gif the challenge things they do are probably the best bit about it (not to mention the Doctor Who episode of it! biggrin.gif )

Another TV phenomenon fares very well in this countdown with Game of Thrones continuing its climb. The show is based on a series of books by George R. R. Martin but has now got to the awkward point of actually surpassing its source material in terms of storyline. This has been helped by some diversions along the way which means that fans of the books won't have the story completely spoiled for them. ANYWAY, like The Walking Dead, the show is notorious for its potential of spoilers due to the various twists and turns and many a important character death. The show is a fantasy series exploring the competition for who will get the Crown of the Seven Kingdoms, while the White Walkers also pose a very large threat. The show is very much about power meaning there is of course plenty of deals, betrayals, fighting etc just with added dragons. As each episode passes, the huge ensemble cast grows ever more, with it estimated to have the largest ever TV ensemble cast, allowing each viewer to pick their different favourite characters, even if there is a danger behind this. It is a show that can only be described as epic and ambitious. It has a lot to do but it manages to do it very well for the most part, allowing you to never get lost in the numerous storylines that go on. Indeed, the show is quite unique as many of the characters never or rarely interact and each episode focuses on one place for about 10/15 minutes in total, unless it is a special event episode. The settings and production designs are glorious and fantastic though and really help it to achieve its epic aim. It is also helped by a fantastic opening sequence/theme tune which helps set the scene. I've never really been into fantasy like this but Game of Thrones has truly become one of my favourite shows, becoming something where I truly can't wait for each episode to be broadcast.

Just missing out on the Top 10 is Buzzjack's favourite soap, Eastenders! It is made by the BBC and quickly became one of the most popular and iconic shows. As the title suggests, it follows the lives of people living in the East End, most notably the fictional Albert Square. It plays home to some of the biggest families and characters to grace our screens including the Mitchells, the Beales, the Fowlers, the Slaters and now the Carters. The show has helped to explore some of the biggest social issues, even tackling some controversial areas to help bring more focus to them and show them for the first time on British television. This has included alcoholism, rape, domestic violence, drug abuse, racism, homophobia, cot death, prostitution, mental-health issues, euthanasia and child grooming. All these, matched with the numerous affairs and murders that often occur in soaps, have seen Eastenders being referred to as a place of misery. Each episode ends with a cliffhanger followed by the iconic duff-duffs as secrets are exposed or storylines develop. Some of the most memorable storylines include Dirty Den handing Angie divorce papers, Who Shot Phil Mitchell, the return of Dirty Den from the grave and the Max/Stacey affair. The show has also recently excelled in its anniversary storylines with Who Killed Archie Mitchell? becoming a huge talking point in 2010, with a live episode reveal. 2015 went one step further with a near year long mystery looking into Who Killed Lucy Beale? culminating in a special live week and a flashback episode. The show's run under its latest executive producer has also produced more surprises by omitting to tell the press about some of its stories and has also seen departed characters return for one off episodes. The show is a lot more gritty than its counterparts but that appears a lot more popular with you guys!

Breaking Bad is often hailed as one of the greatest television shows of all time with it officially (according to the Guinness World Records in 2013) being the most critically-acclaimed TV show. It helped to largely pioneer a breakthrough in television drama by drastically improving the quality of it, showing the world that the best stories can be enchanced and told through the television format, rather than through film. This has meant that we're in a world absolutely full of critically-acclaimed television dramas. It also helped bring the activity of 'binge-watching' to greater prominence as it's availability on the fairly new streaming services like Netflix allowed people to watch a big chunk all in one go. This helped the show to grow hugely in popularity with its final series, more than doubling its normal ratings and the final episode got more than 7 times more viewers than the first ever episode. Many have called the show gripping but, I'm going to be honest, I'm really not that big a fan. I'm really struggling to make my way through it despite starting just less than 2 years ago oops. Anyway, the show is based around Walter, a science teacher who turns to producing meth to secure a healthy financial future for his family due to his diagnosis of lung cancer. He becomes heavily involved in the criminal world, alongside his former student Jesse, and he tries to hide his secret life from his family, in particular, his brother-in-law who is a Drug Enforcement Administration agent, trying to stop a drug producer, unaware that it is Walter.

17th August 2010 – present (5 series) • UK TV and Soaps

The Great British Bake Off has become a national PHENOMENON over the past few years as we all eagerly anticipate whether Margaret from Surrey has managed to avoid having a soggy bottom in her cake. Starting off on BBC Two, the show focuses on baking as contestants are given all the appropriate equipment in a marquee and come up with the best cakes, breads, pastries, biscuits etc. Hosted by Mel & Sue and judged by Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood, the show has grown in popularity every year, averaging at least 10m since its move to BBC One. While viewing figures fall across the board, the GBBO has seen an impressive rise and resistance with 15m tuning into last year's final, nearly twice as much as The X Factor final in 2015. Whilst the quintessential Britishness of the show and the public's love of baking has helped the show to reach these heights, a smaller factor in this is the heavy innuendo used throughout, helping the show to be a fun, light-hearted watch, especially when compared to other competition shows. This tone has not stopped some front-page scandals over the years, the biggest of which was bin-gate. The removal of a Baked Alaska from a freezer by another contestant meant that it hadn't set and so it was thrown in the bin, allowing for outcry across the media because it is a very pressing issue of course. The show has helped contestants produce cookbooks and make regular TV appearances but, last year's winner Nadiya, has become the biggest star of the show. Her self-depreciating attitude and hilarious faces/comments helped her win a place in the nation's heart, all rounded off by her winner's speech which inspired every viewer watching.

Miranda is another show that's huge success saw it transition form BBC Two to BBC Two. It is also another example of a sitcom ending after three series in order to prevent it from becoming too stale. The show is written and stars Miranda Hart and it essentially sees her in numerous awkward situations. It's a show that has an old style influence with it featuring a lot of slapstick comedy and that it is filmed in front of a studio audience and the end of each show sees the cast wave at the camera. Throughout the show, Miranda often breaks the fourth wall by talking to the audience at home as she explains situations or, as more often happens, goes off on a tangent as she talks about her favourite words or things like her fruit friends. The show is also full of long-running jokes such as the use of Heather Small's proud and Miranda's mum's catchphrase 'such fun'. Miranda is struggling in her love life and sees an on/off relationship with Gary and then pursues a new relationship with Michael. The third series ended with a proposal from both with the two specials tying up who she would get married to. It is quite a marmite show but it appears that there's a lot of love on Buzzjack with it appearing in the Top 10 in all three countdowns!

Family Guy is an American adult animated sitcom created by Seth MacFarlane. The sitcom centres on the Griffins, a family consisting of Peter, Lois, Meg, Chris, Stewie and their pet dog Brian. The show itself is set in the fictional city of Quahog, Rhode Island with their sense of humour critically acclaimed. Family Guy is currently on its fourteenth series with ratings averaging around 3.5million which is seen as a disappointment in comparison to The Simpsons and the ratings that Family Guy achieved in previous seasons. Family Guy following season 3 was originally axed by Fox due to low ratings, however favorable DVD sales and high ratings for syndicated reruns on Adult Swim convinced the network to renew the show in 2004 for a fourth season.

The newest Family Guy episodes are usually showing on Sunday nights on BBC2 following BBC3 closing down. Family Guy has been nominated for 12 Primetime Emmy Awards and 11 Annie Awards, and has won three of each. In 2009, it was nominated for an Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series.

It’s not difficult to see why Family Guy is popular around the world as their not afraid to push the boundaries which makes the show even more enjoyable. Each character brings a sense of uniqueness whether it be Mr Herbert chasing after young children or Stewie planning Lois’s death, it’s easy to see why each character is popular (Minus Cleveland, he’s so annoying). One of my favourite Family Guy episodes was easily mystery murder episode or the joint episode with The Simpsons.

A bit of an :eyes: inclusion but I felt it was better to be more relaxed with the rules and people vote on their own merits! The Eurovision Song Contest has been running across Europe since 1956, making it the longest running annual TV song competition (because there's obviously lots of them). Countries all across Europe enter one song each and battle it out to become the winner, with each country voting for their 10 favourite countries! The winner will then host the next contest. Part of the reason why it was made was to help bring Europe together. The first contest saw a six European nations but it has grown and grown, with this year's contest matching a high of 43 nations. It's popularity has spread all over the world and has even led to Australia starting to enter. Over the years, thousands of artists have entered including ABBA, Celine Dion, Bucks Fizz and Electro Velvet! It's often remembered for bizarre, bonkers and cheesy entries although things have become slightly cooler over the past few years. Over the past decade or so, they have been numerous complaints of bloc-voting with countries voting for their neighbours and not voting for those they do not politically support. The introduction of juries was introduced to help prevent this, although it does contribute in some circumstances (Azerbaijan). The best songs do end up doing the best in the end and it's mainly the UK's lack of effort that sees us as a regular fixture at the bottom ever since the first nil-points they received in 2003, straight after the Iraq War. The UK is one of the Big Five who pay to automatically qualify to the final ever since the large number of participants meant that semi-finals had to be introduced.

I forgot about this thread for ages. Some excellent commentaries Froot, really great for reading.

Naturally I'm very pleased to see most of the scripted shows high, I've been watching The Walking Dead since voting and I'm getting fairly close to catching up, very much into the twists and turns and it's just really scary when you get invested into the characters there. Quite sad to not see Game Of Thrones top 10 in that case, it's absolutely unbeatable for me in the gripping suspense and high fantasy stakes it puts you through. Very much worthy of being my favourite. (positive, it beating Big Brother, negative, it got beaten by Eastenders :/)

Top 10, aside from Breaking Bad and Friends, maybe Doctor Who too (but they're both tainted by going on for so long that they also have their fair share of SHIT dragging them down, and that's to say nothing of The Simpsons), I'd put nowhere NEAR a list like this preferably. laugh.gif Again, Breaking Bad is so gripping and has left such an impact on me even a couple of years after I've watched it, there's just moment after fantastic moment in there, an absolute essential for storytelling. I think it fully converted me to searching out the best of TV dramas, sitcoms have felt so empty ever since with no consequences for the characters.

Eurovision is a bit of a weird inclusion but it is a captivating experience once a year so I guess that's fine. Family Guy has had some great moments but it's tainted for me by just going for awful shock humour and passing off being really mean and edgy as good writing. The one time I watched GBBO this year, I found it quite dull, it's just not my kind of thing in the slightest. And Miranda is a-ok, it's just after you've seen a couple of great episodes like Just Act Normal I don't find I want to see any more.

23rd November 1963 - present (35 series) • UK TV and Soaps

Doctor Who has transformed from a show that was just created to bridge a gap on Saturday afternoons to one of the biggest shows in the world (35 series!!). The show follows a Time Lord called the Doctor who can travel in time and space in his TARDIS with numerous companions as he fights aliens and monsters, saving people, aliens and planets. It first aired in 1963 and was intended to be an educational show that would look at different events in history but, it soon became a lot more science fiction based following the first appearance of the Daleks. This was because the Daleks immediately took off in popularity and gave the show a much needed rating boost. They have become one of the most well known monsters in entertainment overall and they can be seen to have saved the show! One of the other aspects that have become integral to Doctor Who that helped the show see long-lasting success is that the Doctor can regenerate, meaning that a new leading actor can be brought in to replace the previous one. It is still the same character and it helps to keep the show fresh. Over its 53 years on our screens, thirteen different actors have played the part of the Doctor, with Tom Baker becoming the most synonymous with the role, partly due to his reign being the longest.

Change is integral to the show and it is the reason why it has become one of the longest running TV shows. Indeed, its the reason why I love the show so much! THe concept behind the show allows each episode to be completely different from each other. There are endless possibilities as writers can explore any time period and create any world and/or monsters that they wish (so long as its in budget). One week it can explore what caused the eruption in Pompeii, the next week can explore the Devil on a planet that surrounds a black hole, the other can seen aliens taking over our Government! Change is also seen in the Doctor's companion, usually a young female from Earth, designed to be the viewer's eyepiece. As with anything, the show saw a significant decrease in viewers in the late 1980s, after 26 years on screen, which led to its cancellation. This is impressive for any show but its huge popularity saw it live on through books and other media, whilst also returning for a US produced show in 1996. It was brought back properly in 2005 with a refreshed look but retaining the essential ingredients and allowing for a continuation rather than completely rebooting. It saw a huge new wave of success, even bigger than the one experienced in its initial run. This was partly down to the companion being more of the centre of the show as well as a quicker pace, new CGI effects and excellent writing in general. It may not be hitting the same heights as in 2005-8 but the show is still hugely popular 10 years on from its revival and it was able to have a huge celebration across the BBC for its 50th anniversary. This saw a feature-length special that had a cinema release and was viewable in 3D. It may push the boundaries of a limited BBC budget but still able to compete with big international shows as it increases its popularity worldwide. In particular, viewership is growing every year in the US which is very impressive, especially for a show that is VERY British at its heart. The show is a phenomenon and it truly is one of the biggest and best TV shows ever. It is a HUGE part of British culture and it contains some of the most popular and well-known TV characters and aliens and it reaches heights that no other show can.

It is the highest UK TV show!

Doctor Who is by far and away my favourite TV show, it's been a huge part of my life since I first watched it almost 10 years ago and I really never looked back. The Russell T Davies series (1-4) are better than what's being produced now but it's still top notch and I thoroughly enjoy it. Really can't speak highly enough of it! Excellent write up too Froot heart.gif

4th September 2004 - present (12 series) • Reality TV

The X Factor is another reality phenomenon which, at its peak, was the talk of Monday mornings. Following a less than successful second series of Pop Idol, ITV looked at that show's star, Simon Cowell, for a replacement. The show retained the same concept (judges, auditions, public voting, live shows) but introduced certain elements that have helped it to become a huge success, including the addition of groups being able to participate. The main new element was that each judge would mentor a certain category, either 16-24s, over 25s or the groups. This was helped by the fact that each of the initial judges (Simon, Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne) had experience in managing artists. The other new features were Boot Camp and Judges Houses, where contestants are taken to glamorous locations to sing in front of their mentor. The first couple of series were hugely popular but it wasn't until the show found its first international star in Leona Lewis that it really took off to stand apart from its Popstars and Pop Idol predecessors. The fourth series became less 'business-like' as it were with the introduction of Dannii Minogue who is not a music manger, as a fourth judge. The editing became more clever as the show became bigger as well as more dramatic, especially as international stardom was now shown to be a possibility. The golden era for the show was when Cheryl Cole joined in the fifth series, and its peak was indeed in the seventh series, which featured One Direction who went on to be the biggest act to come from the show. Ever since, the show has gradually slumped in popularity which wasn't helped by Simon becoming too big for his boots by taking the show to an over-saturated US market and taking Cheryl with him. Constant line-up replacements, including the return of Simon and Cheryl have done nothing to help recover the ratings.

The show is very notable for its drama and controversy, with a joke act managing to survive many weeks every year always attracting complaints. The shows revels in featuring awful acts, not helped by Louis Walsh, which has led to some calling it exploitative. The recent introduction of the Six Chair challenge has recently caused some of the biggest controversy as the show looks to the Hunger Games for advice, with contestants being offered a place in the next stage, only to have it taken away from them some moments later. The show has attracted some of the biggest ratings of the decade though as well as producing some of the biggest artists. It is the King of talent shows.

My two faves crashing out next to each other laugh.gif The X Factor hasn't lost its charm for me, it's essential viewing and I enjoy it a huge amount. It annoys me when the ratings are referred to as rubbish, and while they're not as good as they were at the show's peak, it's still pulling in loads of viewers and no doubt making a hell of a lot of money for ITV. Regardless, some of my favourite music acts have come from X Factor (in particular 1D of course! heart.gif) so it's reached further than just the TV in a positive way.

Although sacking Mel B was NOT GOOD.

16th February 2005 - present (11 series) • Reality TV

Dun dundun dundun dundun dundun dundun dun DUN DUN. The Apprenctice sees buisness people compete in weekly tasks in order to either work for Lord Alan Sugar or win a £250,000 investment for a business. These task can include selling items to members of the public, creating a new product, advertising and marketing or setting up a new business. Each task has its own project manager, who will be different each week and they are in charge for the task. Applicants are mostly very arrogant, or at least they have to big themselves up (including 'I am the reflection of perfection' and 'everything I touch turns to sold'), allowing it to be all the more funnier when they completely mess up tasks. We all love it when a crucial error has been made and each episode contains many of these. The applicants are split into two teams, with the losing team being brought back into the boardroom for Lord Sugar to question them on what went wrong, where ultimately at least one person will be fired (ie no longer in the process). This leads to many a backtrack and shifting the blame as the applicants try to save themselves from a potential firing. Each team is observed by one of Alan's advisers, with Nick and Margaret being the stars for the first five series, Karren replacing Margaret and Claude recently replacing Nick. Nick's funny facial expressions and put-downs in the boardroom have made him my favourite advisor and it was gutting to see him leave.

The editing of the show is perfect and really helps make it, as it portrays each applicant to look more useless than they actually are, with it revelling in any mistakes. It helps exploit many hilarious moments and it really is so entertaining to watch. Since the prize change, it has become slightly frustrating as the retention of the previous format means that an applicant could be the best yet still be fired due to a great business plan. Ultimately though, the lack in format change is actually a good thing as it highlights that there is a winning format which does not need to change. It will always create an entertaining and hilarious watch.

17th December 1989 (27 seasons) • International TV

Twenty Seven seasons later and The Simpsons is still more popular than ever. We’ve all grown up watching The Simpsons with almost all members associating The Simpsons with your childhood. It’s not difficult to see why The Simpsons has remained one of the most popular televisions shows through the characterisation of the main characters; Homer, Marge, Lisa, Bart and Maggie (despite the speaking a limited amount of words). The Simpsons debuted on December 17th 1989 and has broadcasted over 586 episodes. The Simpsons has received widespread critical acclaim, especially for the "Golden Age" of its approximated first ten seasons. Time magazine named it the 20th century's best television series.

Despite not existing when The Simpsons first aired, I’ve grown to love the show and despite being 22 years of age, I still find Homer’s antics hilarious – his hilarious remarks as well as creating the ever so annoying catchphrase ‘d’oh”. There’s more to The Simpsons than the family itself with popular characters being Apu, Krusty The Clown, the worst police officers known on animated television.

In 2007, through an increasing demand, The Simpsons eventually provided. The Simpsons Movie, which grossed over £527 million worldwide as well as receiving critical acclaim. The film currently holds an 89% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 218 reviews, with an average rating of 7.6/10. The most iconic moment from the movie is no doubt the popularity of ‘Spiderpig’ and the song itself which has generated millions of views on Youtube.

22nd September 1994 – 6th May 2004 (10 seasons) • International TV

Finally, we’ve reached the end of the countdown which should have been finished months ago but poor Froot couldn’t help but flop. I couldn’t be more delighted with the popularity of Friends worldwide and on Buzzjack, I’ll happily admit I always get offended when I’m informed by individuals that they dislike Friends or haven’t seen an episode.

Friends is an American television sitcom, created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman, which originally aired on NBC from September 22, 1994, to May 6, 2004, lasting ten seasons. Starring Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc,Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer, the show revolves around six friends living in New York.

Friends received acclaim throughout its run, becoming one of the most popular television shows of all time. The series was nominated for 62 Primetime Emmy Awards, winning the Outstanding Comedy Series award in 2002 for its eighth season.

Friends never fails to cheer myself up as well as providing a whole range of emotions. The show effectively provided us with an incredible amount of memories which results in hope that one day we will get Friends The Movie (Which I’ve accepted won’t happen). I never understood a lot of the innuendos growing up but the older I got the more I understood the jokes. I can proudly say that I’ve seen each episode over ten times and I still find it hilariously amazing. ‘Did she get off the place’? ‘Unagi’. ‘Salmon Skin Roll’ and let’s not forget the best quote of Friends ‘WE WERE ON A BREAK’. I adored the final episode where Ross & Rachel finally ended up together which provided a perfect, emotional yet happy ending with no deaths but full of drama! The finale became the most watched entertainment telecast in the 2000’s as it drew an audience of 52.5million viewers falling just short of their record of 52.9million which followed the Superbowl.

The question that we are frequently asked is who is your favourite character? Each characters provides such a different aspect to the show that I couldn’t possibly decide. We have Phoebe who had her brothers triplets and provided us with one of the most iconic songs of all time in ‘Smelly Cat’, Ross & Monica are arguably the most popular brother and sister ever to grace the television screen through their hilarious comedy and perfect shading of each other. I wish I was lucky enough to marry three times like Ross. One of Ross’s marriages belonged to Rachel Green and as previously stated she actually did get off the plane! Finally we have Chandler and Joey who are best friends, who provide nothing but amusement which slowly started to disintegrate following Chandler marrying Monica (I feel like Joey is my least favourite). I feel as if Friends was ever so popular was through s being able to relate to what it was like having a group of friends that we spend all of our time with.

It's finally over. :') SO sorry that it took so long but I did want every show to have its own proper moment (so the countdown was also seen as a sort of celebration) and once I'd started that way, I had to carry it all the way through but then I've obviously had life that has prevented me from doing this quickly. Thanks to Lee, Liam, Joseph, Ultraviolence & Lindsey for helping me out with some of the commentaries, it is greatly appreciated and also thanks to Silas and Liam (again) for the nomination rounds for International and Reality! Also big thanks to anyone who voted at any stage and those who have followed along with the drawn out results.

It's an interesting result in the end, even if we had the same winner as the previous two similar countdowns, it seems as though the love for Friends will never die! It's interesting to see that the split between UK/International/Reality was fairly even overall. I was expecting Big Brother to be in the Top 10 though considering the love for it on the site and, indeed, I wasn't expecting Breaking Bad to be Top 10.

Absolutely incredible hosting Froot, the amount of effort and everything you put into this is just incredible heart.gif heart.gif

Yay The Simpsons is top 2, don't watch it often anymore but a massive childhood classic!

My top 2 shows making the top 2 *.* I do prefer The Simpsons but only slightly, and I suppose seasons 20 onwards of The Simpsons probably mean it isn't the perfect show that it was for it's first few decades - whereas Friends didn't really go downhill throughout its run. Both incredible shows and a worthy end to this mammoth countdown. Thanks a lot for doing it Froot ~

Fwooty, this thread's been a huge and largely thankless task so congrats on finishing it and maintaining the quality in the commentaries the whole way through! I'm sure there was plenty of stuff that you couldn't be bothered researching/writing up, but you (and others) ended up doing everything justice. It's been great to follow over the last while and I'm sorry I've been too much of a flop to show my interest! :/

Can't really argue with that top two. Both highly quotable, iconic shows and staples of my childhood that continue to stand the test of time. I'd still gladly watch an episode of either any time there isn't much else on offer. Great to see #Rabbitspike (#Frootspike?) ha impact on the #3! I actually still haven't seen the last few episodes of the recent series ohmy.gif as my flatmate and my ritual viewing of it was interrupted by Christmas, and he only went and finished the thing back home without me. sob.gif

Never heard of the #5 - I guess it's about an elusive medical professional or something? Sounds kinda shet. smile.gif

'Breaking Bad' is my favourite ever TV series so I'm chuffed to see it recognised enough here to scrape the top 10 <3. I was hooked pretty much from the start so it's a shame to see some comments about people struggling with the earlier seasons (though admittedly, the first one's all about setting up the story rather than being action-packed so I kind of get it). The whole thing has such an intricately designed, intelligent and thrilling plot and the acting's consistently superb. Gah, I really need to watch it all again sometime wub.gif. It's also special to me as I credit the show with bringing my brother and I closer together, as it was the first thing we bonded over in years and our relationship is way better now. happy.gif

Also good to see 'The Inbetweeners', 'The Catherine Tate Show' and 'Pointless' in the top 20, and 'The Graham Norton Show' and 'Misfits' relatively high up too. <3

Thanks for allowing me to help you with the commentary, I worried about doing Friends justice but you allowed me to do the top 2 *.*

You've done an excellent job mate and it's great to see appreciation of your commentary because they were excellent! I know I was shading you earlier (I was joking) but you've put an incredible amount of effort into this forum as a whole and the results were fantastic! I'm already interested to see how the 2016 ends up. wub.gif

Oh a great top 2, about the most obvious you can get but they've both earned that status as perennial favourites for pretty much anyone so I can't really argue and still smile a lot when watching either show (though in the Simpsons case, only episodes prior to 2000).

Catching up, Doctor Who top 5 is great to see, I'd definitely put it as my favourite TV show, the 2005-8 run was some of the best television I've ever seen and it was such a staple of my Saturday nights. It's definitely less good now, especially when there's more exciting science fiction/fantasy shows on air, but it's hard to let go. I hold a lot of good feelings towards it. I hold a soft spot for Eastenders, Big Brother & X Factor even if I very rarely take much interest in them these days, there was a time I religiously watched them all (now that guilty pleasure spot has been taken by Bake Off <3)

It's great to see Breaking Bad top 10 if just to increase the credibility of the top 10 kink.gif I'm actually in the process of watching it too and have hit a wall but I will persist, at my family's word, it is meant to be the greatest show ever and all. GOT almost top 10 is brilliant to see too, fast becoming my favourite <3

Thank you very much for running this Froot, however long it took, the commentaries were, as others said, fantastic and a testament to your passion for all things television!

Very glad to see Friends winning, I'd say it's my favourite of the top 5, the archetypal sitcom with so many well-written episodes and a great cast of characters that make it very watchable for the vast majority of its run. I'd say my highlight is The One With The Blackout, it was certainly a lot stronger in the earliest seasons but given that I wouldn't mind seeing most of it again at the drop of a hat, worthy winner.

I'm not so much a fan of the Simpsons but it's also had its moments and despite it being the epitomy of a status quo show it's fairly funny. At times. Hit and miss really, and that's even with me seeing barely any of its stuff from more recent times.

Very pleased The Apprentice is the highest reality show as the only one from that genre I'll probably ever watch again, so there's that. I guess I USED to find the X Factor entertaining but I've moved way beyond that now and just find it trash of the highest order (so not so great that it beat Doctor Who).

And Doctor Who, it's not the greatest sci-fi show, it's often a bit cringy (it WAS pretty brilliant in the RTD/Tennant days, I'm one of those), but as something that reaches beyond the sci-fi demographic, I do find it enjoyable for what it is (especially when it does things on the smaller scale, too many 'this episode shapes the fate of the whole universe' occasions put me off a bit, but I'm starting on my catchup of it into Capaldi's era so there's still time for it to change). Basically, it doing so well is a victory for sci-fi and fantasy and I'll take that ANY day.

Breaking Bad is still definitively the best thing in the top 10 kink.gif Thank you very much for running this Froot, it's been a masterpiece of a presentation.
