My first thread in a while here.
TEN years ago today Amy Winehouse passed away. It’s surprising to many that in her lifetime she only actually released TWO studio albums. Of course she’s an icon and very fondly remembered but I often wonder had life treated her better, things been different what could’ve happened. How do you think her third album would’ve performed had she been able to release it. Complete what if scenario but curious to hear peoples thoughts. I think she could’ve went onto add to her GRAMMY and BRIT collection for sure and I’m confident the Back to Black follow up would’ve had gigantic opening sales at least. |

I think album 3 would've been her 21 and almost have taken a shine off of Adele's 21 success..

Chances are the 3rd album would do well commercially regardless of how it sounded but not sell as much as Back To Black.

I think it'd have probably commanded at least 400k first week no question.
I feel like she reached a point where the amount of stuff she'd taken permanently damaged her, physically and cognitively (which is sad), so I'm not sure a third album would have been up to much/had any of her heart and soul in it. She'd have probably just cobbled together some studio recordings from turning up because she had to. It's so desperately sad, she had a real gift and I always wonder what could have been if things were different. |

The sad thing is that the Uk loves male singers and bands but female singers, not so much besides Adele... most UK female singers have a huge era but then they release a new album and no one cares... and this has happened since day 1... the list of UK female singers with just 1 big era is endless, from Dina Carroll, Beverly Craven, Duffy, Leona, Emeli Sande, Jessie J... So sadly I think she might have struggled to get a successful 3rd album... also most of the sales of BTB happened cos of her death... |

That’s inaccurate, BTB sold loads years before she died. Didn’t it only cross 3 million the week after she died? It was the third best seller of the 2000s!
She would have had a huge opening for the third album but sales probably would have tailed off like how Tawdry describes. |

I feel like most of those artists listed either left it too long and missed the boat (Emeli Sande) or made or made catastrophic mistakes with their follow-ups that resulted in career suicide (Duffy, Leona and Jessie J). I guess it's hard to say, but I feel like Amy's status culturally as a respected performer and artist was significantly higher than any of them, so I think in an alternate universe she'd manage to evade that curse.
I do think it's a good point how unfairly female singers are treated in the industry and by the media compared to men, the industry has been inherently sexist since the dawn of time and I don't know if that's changing. |

There are so many UK male singers with long careers, Elton John, David Bowie, Rod Stewart, Sting, Phil Collins, George Michael, Paul Weller, etc...all of them have careers that lasted decades... UK females I cannot think of any at the moment, maybe Kate Bush, but it's not like she sells loads anymore...

looking at Back to Black's certifications:
Xmas_2007 was certified Platinumx6 (1.8 mil) then the next I can find is: July_2013 Platinumx8 (2.4 mil) and the latest I can find is: March_2018 Platinumx13 (3.9 mil) with a recent article on MW placing it at around 4.1 mil so yes, true, she sold a lot on release, but also lots since her death |
