This Week:

2002- Idlewild- You Held The World In Your Arms

'You Held The World In Your Arms' was the first single from Idlewild's third studio album 'The Remote Part'. This would go on and peak at #9 in the UK. I remember this song particularly for it being in the soundtrack of FIFA 2003.

FIFA:

2003- David Sneddon- Don't Let Go

'Don't Let Go' was the second single from Fame Academy winner David Sneddon's debut album 'Seven Years- Ten Weeks'. This would go on and peak at #3 in the UK. This is one that I haven't heard for a long time, at the time I can remember that I was a fan of this from him, I much preferred this to 'Stop Living the Lie'. Probably in the minority on here for liking this.

2003- Busted- You Said No

'You Said No' was the third single from Busted's self-titled debut album. This would go on and become Busted's first UK #1, what was unique was Busted became the first act to have their first three singles to enter the top three in ascending order. Again this was one that I can remember that most people in my class very much liked this song.

This Week:

2005- KT Tunstall- Other Side of The World

'Other Side of The World' was the second single from KT Tunstall's debut album 'Eye to the Telescope'. This would go on and peak at #13 in the UK, it would stay in the Top 40 for five weeks. I can remember being a bit gutted at the time that this didn't chart higher for her.

2005- The Killers- Smile Like You Mean It

'Smile Like You Mean It' was the fourth single from The Killers' debut album 'Hot Fuss'. This would go on and peak at #11 in the UK, this was one I definitely listened to when this came out.

2005- Kelly Osbourne- One Word

'One Word' was the first and only single from Kelly Osbourne's second studio album 'Sleeping In the Nothing'. This would go on and peak at #9 in the UK, I think this sounded very similar to 'Fade To Grey' by Visage. One that I haven't heard for a while.

This Week:

2000- Southside Spinners- Luvstruck

'Luvstruck' was from a Dutch DJs Southside Spinners, this originally was released in July 1999 in the UK where it would peak at #85, however this would be re-released ten months later mainly thanks to this being used in the soundtrack of the film Kevin & Perry Go Large, where it would peak at #9 in the UK. Probably not one that I was familiar with at the time when this was released, but discovered this thanks to seeing Kevin & Perry Go Large, I very much prefer this to the film, sorry to anyone who is fan of the film Kevin & Perry Go Large.

Music video with Kevin & Perry

2001- A-Teens- Upside Down

'Upside Down' was the first single from Swedish band A*Teens' second album 'Teen Spirit'. This would go on and peak at #10 in the UK which would become the biggest hit that they ever had in the UK, I believe this was an ABBA tribute group. Can't say that I remember hearing this back then, this is all right from them.

2009- Pink- Please Don't Leave Me

'Please Don't Leave Me' was the third single from Pink's fifth studio album 'Funhouse'. This would go on and peak at #12 in the UK, in the US this would peak at #17 in the Billboard Hot 100. This was seemed to be everywhere on the music channels when this came out, the particular music video being a sort of ode to 'Misery'.

This Week:

2000- Stephen Gately- New Beginning

'New Beginning' was the debut single from Boyzone's Stephen Gately from his debut solo album 'New Beginning'. This would go on and peak at #3 in the UK, can't say that I remember this from Stephen, but this is all right from him. It was such as a tragedy when I heard the news that he had died aged 33 in 2009. He had the best voice out of the five from Boyzone. He is very much dearly missed.

2006- Embrace- World At Your Feet

'World At Your Feet' was the official song for the 2006 England World Cup squad in their 2006 FIFA World Cup campaign. This was featured on Embrace's re-released version of their fifth studio album 'This New Day'. This would go on and peak at #3 in the UK. This is one that I thought was all right at the time, it isn't one looking now where it features on football playlists when England are at a World Cup or Euros. For England it wasn't to be as they were knocked out of the quarter-finals in Germany thanks to a Rooney stamp, a Ronaldo wink, and a missed penalty from Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher.

2009- Little Boots- New In Town

'New In Town' was the debut single from Little Boots from her debut studio album 'Hands'. This would go on and peak at #13 in the UK. Little Boots would top the BBC Sound of 2009 ahead of the likes of:
    White Lies
    Florence + The Machine
    Empire of the Sun
    La Roux
    Lady GaGa
    V V Brown
    Kid Cudi
    Passion Pit
    Dan Black
    Frankmusik
    Master Shortie
    Mumford & Sons
    The Big Pink
    The Temper Trap

'Who Knew' wub.gif

Also like 'New Beginning', 'New In Town', 'Forever and Always' and 'If I Were You' - this I only came across last year via my friend playing it.

'World At Your Feet' is also quite good as far as Footie songs go. Doesn't seem well remembered though.

Who Knew. heart.gif I feel like it was a bigger hit in 2006 than its #5 peak suggests. It was everywhere!

This Week:

2003- Jennifer Ellison- Baby I Don't Care

'Baby I Don't Care' was a cover version of the 1989 song from Transvision Vamp from actress Jennifer Ellison which was the debut single from her. This would go on and peak at #6 in the UK, which would be her highest single to chart out of the two singles that she released. This cover from Jennifer isn't great, sorry not a fan of this, I very much prefer the original.

Original:

2007- Calvin Harris- The Girls

'The Girls' was the second single from Calvin Harris' debut studio album 'I Created Disco'. This would go on and peak at #3 in the UK which was his highest charting single in the UK at the time. This is a great song from him, for EastEnders fans they would probably remember this song particularly for a certain trailer which involved the introduction of Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell.

That Trailer:

At Ronnie's Wedding:

2009- Freemasons ft Sophie Ellis-Bextor- Heartbreak (Make Me A Dancer)

'Heartbreak (Make Me A Dancer) was an collaboration between Freemasons and Sophie Ellis-Bextor. This would go on and peak at #13 in the UK, I can remember being frustrated that this didn't go Top 10 hadn't heard this for a while until the revival of 'Murder On The Dancefloor', it still sounds great from Sophie.

Many thanks for commenting, Roba. Unfortunately I didn't remember Jennifer's version until doing this series,

So happy you included the Ronnie & Roxy clips featuring The Girls. The perfect song to introduce them and loved the nod to that trailer in their final episode. heart.gif

This Week:

2001- Faith Hill- There You'll Be

The first song for this week is from Faith Hill with 'There You'll Be'. This would included on the soundtrack to 'Pearl Harbor' and Faith Hills' greatest hits album 'There You'll Be'. This would go on and peak at #3 in the UK, seven years later this would re-enter the charts at #10 thanks to an X Factor audition performance from Amy Connelly. In the US this would peak at #10 in the Billboard Hot 100. This is quite a powerful song from Faith Hill.

Amy Connolly's X Factor Audition

2002- Ronan Keating- If Tomorrow Never Comes

I apologize this may not be an popular choice, it is 'Tomorrow Never Comes' from Ronan Keating's second studio album 'Destination'. This was originally done by American country music artist Garth Brooks. Ronan's version would go on and become his third UK #1 where it would stay for one week before being knocked off the #1 spot by Liberty X. This is a song that I remember always seemed to be played in the background when I was at supermarkets. This is OK but probably isn't one that I would go out my way to listen to.

2003- S Club- Love Ain't Gonna Wait For You

'Love Ain't Gonna Wait For You' was included in the double A-side of S Club's last single with 'Say Goodbye'. 'Love Ain't Gonna Wait For You' was included on S Club's fourth studio album 'Seeing Double'. This isn't one that I'm familiar with this from S Club. This sounds all right from them.
