Close to Me by Ellie Goulding and Ocean by Martin Garrix would also have peaked a little higher!

Update for week ending 18/6

Note that for a few older songs I don’t really know where they’d have peaked under this chart as I haven’t rolled it far back enough yet. wink.gif

ACR does spare us some older re-entries, though ironically it’s also boosting Perfect, which on a level playing field would be nowhere near even the Top 50.

The poor week of streaming has given a slight boost to some more sales heavy songs like Memories.

1 1 Rockstar (1)
2 2 Rain on me (1)
3 3 Blinding lights (1)
4 4 Rover (4)
5 7 Breaking me (5)

Update for week ending 25/6:

I reckon this would be Blinding lights’ 21st straight week in the Top 3 and Dance monkey’s 40th straight week in the Top 20.

There wouldn’t be 2 good dance tracks climbing into the Top 10 - in fact the Top 10 would be the same 10 tracks as last week.

There would be an Ed Sheeran song hanging around the 40s but it would be I don’t care instead of Perfect.

1 1 Rockstar (1)
2 2 Rain on me (1)
3 3 Blinding lights (1)
4 4 Rover (4)
5 5 Breaking me (5)
6 8 Dinner guest
7 6 Roses (1)
8 10 Savage (5)
9 7 Death bed (6)
10 9 Toosie slide (2)
11 15 Secrets (11)
12 11 I dunno (9)
13 16 Don’t need love (13)
14 18 Watermelon sugar (14)
15 12 Dance monkey (1)
16 - Trollz (16)
17 13 Say so (4)
18 14 Break my heart (7)
19 17 Flowers (16)
20 20 Lonely (5)
21 23 This city (21)
22 22 Don’t start now (2)
23 24 Party girl (23)
24 19 Rain (3)
25 21 Stuck with u (6)
26 43 Don’t rush (26)

Strange to see that Death Bed, with all its weeks in the Top 5 officially, would have peaked at #6 - means Dance Monkey would have been Top 5 as recently as last month!

Also that Blueberry Faygo would still have managed a Top 10 peak, but Intentions wouldn't despite its 6 weeks there officially.

I can't be sure but based on my estimates a combination of Blinding Lights, Roses and Dance Monkey would have kept Death Bed out of the Top 5.

I reckon Intentions would have had an agonising run - something like 12-12-12-14-12-11-11-15. The Box and Before You Go were probably ahead of it but on ACR around its peak weeks, as well as Dance Monkey of course.

On the other hand the week Blueberry Faygo was at 9 officially I think only Dance Monkey would have pushed it down a place so it would have made #10.

Update for Week Ending 2/7:

I still think Blinding Lights would be #3 and not far off #2.

By my estimates Don’t Need Love and Watermelon Sugar would be entering the Top 10 but frustratingly Secrets would be #11 again, fewer than 100 sales behind #9.

Breaking Me still being behind Blinding Lights would be frustrating but that's probably just about true for last week.

I actually think Roses would still have been at least #9. It was #7 on audio, #21 on sales and #12 on video, whereas Savage was #10, #19 and #24 respectively - so that would leave Don't Need Love with an #11 peak.

Goes to show that generally the chart looks a lot better with ACR.

So 'Toosie Slide' only got its week at #1 because of ACR? Damn.

Possibly - it was all pretty tight between #9 and #17 last week.

I’m still not sure which chart I prefer; this one is more stagnant but I like the purity of it.

Not only that but it would have been behind Blinding Lights for the whole of its chart career. Same for Own It vs Dance Monkey.

Thanks for putting these together, I've often wondered what the chart would look like without ACR. May be a stupid question, but are the peaks in brackets what that song achieved without ACR?

I do really kind of wish ACR didn't exist, as slow as the chart would be at least it would be organic. That said, not sure what I would have thought about Mariah being no1 each December.

You’re welcome. Yes the brackets show my estimated peaks without ACR.

In some ways I prefer it this way - it does make for lower peaks but they could expand the Top 40 show to a Top 50 or 60 and skip over the really old songs. As for the three track limit - if an artist can generate enough buzz to take over the chart for a week or two I think so be it, though I may be changing my mind after the Taylor takeover next week.

I don’t think I’d have a problem with Mariah taking over every Christmas either. It might actually inspire artists to come up with new Christmas songs to compete.

Ah ok thank you for clarifying that.

Yeah I get what you mean, I was just starting to get my head around the chart at the start of 2017 and then they brought in ACR which I think creates this faux view of things and hasn't really solved the problem of a slow chart. That said, Ed's domination was rather ridiculous when Divide came out but I think they could have amended that rule to be all official singles and the top streamed album being allowed to chart would have been a better middle ground scenario.

Out of interest, how long would Gaga's Stupid Love have remained in the top 40 for? I'm guessing even without ACR it would have dropped out before Chromatica was released. Also I'm sure the Weekend would have broken a weeks in the top 10 record by now.

Stupid Love actually benefitted from ACR - it would have had a slightly shorter run without it and would only have peaked at #7.

Blinding Lights would be on 29 straight weeks in the Top 10 and counting - apparently the record is 35 set in the 1950s but it could get there. Dance Monkey would have done 35 weeks in the Top 10 in total but not consecutively due to Christmas. smile.gif

Bear in mind that record, in a world without ACR, would have gone to Someone You Loved with a huge 51 non-consecutive weeks in the top 10 - 43 consecutive and only kicked out due to Christmas...!

Side by side, the official chart run on top, the "old rules" chart run below.

NE (22/11/2018) | 100-x-66-29-13-10-09-03-03-01-01-01-01-01-01-01-02-03-04-03-04-03-03-03-03-11-14-10-13-14-19-22-25-23-19-23-21-27-28-24-19-23-18-20-23-25-31-28-26-34-27-38-58-15-07-07-10-09-06-07-06-06-08-10-28-30-36-36-36-37-44-43-37-38-45-47-46-46-42-40-45-...

Once again:

1st underline = this was the week it was first on ACR on the official top 100.
2nd underline = this was the week it returned to SCR on the official top 100 after a 25% increase in streams the week before.
3rd underline = this was the week it returned to ACR on the official top 100.
green = would've been top 10 without the Christmas songs above

Thanks for that! I haven’t done my estimates for 2019 yet and I knew SYL would have had a very long run but hadn’t realised it would have been virtually the whole year.
