'Own It' is ok but it's by far the weakest of Stormzy's #1s for me (and one of my least favourite of Ed's #1s as well although I'd take it over 'River' and 'I Don't Care').
Godzilla isn't that bad at all, but it's so forgotten about in terms of 2020. River was like this also for Eminem, neither has had any staying power in our minds. Bit oop for it to finish below Times Like These though. I would say 'Godzilla' is the one song that has felt genuinely big and relevant from Eminem from his last couple of albums. Mostly because of it being the first posthumous Juice WRLD release, but the last verse from Eminem felt like a memorable moment too. I'm surprised that it would fall into the same category of forgettable hits as 'River' for other people. Maybe I'm just biased because it's my favourite recent Eminem song (by a very large margin), eh ~ |

Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo Savage Love (Laxed - Siren Beat) Non-album single Released: 11th June 2020 Label: Columbia Records Completing a wonderful run of 70, 80 and now 90 points for the previous three songs, Savage Love becomes our final track not on triple figures. Originally a TikTok trend called Laxed (Siren Beat) created by Jawsh 685, a producer from New Zealand, Jason Derulo took the instrumental and wrote a song over the top, saying he always knew it would be a big hit when interviewed by Radio 1. Though originally Jason wanted to release the song on his own, the final track had Jawsh 685 credited as the primary artist and the instrumental's original title in brackets. The track climbed to #1 within three weeks of release, becoming Jawsh 685's first #1 and Jason's fifth - his first in 5 years! Chart Statistics NE (25/06/2020) | 22-4-1-1-1-2-2-2-2-10-13-16-12-17-21-21-20-25-28-33-38-41-46-62-81-x RE (14/01/2021) | 58-71-... Sales: 1,000k+ Certification: Platinum 01 Sales 01 Audio Streaming 02 Video Streaming Video Biography Jawsh 685 New Zealand-based beatmaker Jawsh 685 shot to sudden international success when one of his sunny, laid-back instrumentals, known as "siren jams," became a viral hit. His 2019 production "Laxed (Siren Beat)" unexpectedly caught on, becoming the basis for a trend of online dance videos, and pop star Jason Derulo incorporated the track into his chart-topping 2020 hit "Savage Love." Born in South Auckland, Joshua Nanai is half Samoan and half Cook Islander. He began making beats in high school, taking the name Jawsh 685 in reference to Samoa's calling code. His tracks reflect the New Zealand/Pasifika trend of "siren jams," which are midtempo reggaeton-like beats created to play through siren speakers attached to cars or bikes. He uploaded several tracks in 2019, but it was "Laxed (Siren Beat)," created in about four hours one afternoon following school, that took off. The beat became the basis for a "Culture Dance" trend, in which users dance to the track, changing from their everyday clothes to their national dress. "Laxed (Siren Beat)" was officially released to online platforms in April 2020, and Jawsh signed with Columbia Records the following month. The producer had been in talks with multiple artists, including Jason Derulo, about releasing a vocal version of the track. Before anything was officially cleared, however, Derulo teased a song called "Savage Love" that was based on Jawsh's production, but didn't give him proper credit. The two put aside their differences, and Derulo's song was released as "Savage Love (Laxed - Siren Beat)," with Jawsh 685 co-credited as the artist and listed as the track's sole producer. The song became a worldwide smash, reaching the top spot in 12 countries, and charting in dozens of others. - Apple Music Jason Derulo Jason Derulo’s story is a classic rags-to-riches saga about how hard work (and looks that’ll get you named as one of People’s Sexiest Men Alive) can pay off. Born in Miramar, Florida in 1989 to Haitian immigrants, Jason Desrouleaux got his start at performing arts schools and penning tracks for Diddy, Lil Wayne and Danity Kane, among many others, while working on his own songs and routines. He’s a true chameleon, able to blend with artists as varied as Stevie Wonder and Keith Urban, both of whom he teamed with on 2015’s ahead-of-its-time hillbilly banger, “Broke”. But it’s R&B where he truly shines: hits like 2014’s “Wiggle” and “Talk Dirty” were daring, witty dance tracks that made him a global force, and he’s since branched out into hip-hop, funk and even a Bond-theme-like single, the Meghan Trainor collaboration “Painkiller”. On top of more hits, like 2017’s “Tiptoe” with French Montana, and guest spots, such as the worldwide smash “1,2,3” by Sofia Reyes, he’s mastered other platforms, making millions on social media and putting his musical-theatre training to work as the star of the film adaptation of Cats. With bigger acting roles and new music looming, Derulo’s presence is sure to be felt everywhere, for decades to come. - Apple Music Top 100 Chart History Jawsh 685 2020 01 Savage Love (Laxed - Siren Beat) (Jawsh 685 & Jason Derulo) -NAS- MILLIONAIRE 1 x #1 | 1 x Top 5 | 1 x Top 10 | 1 x Top 20 | 1 x Top 40 | 1 x Top 100 Jason Derulo 2009 03 Whatcha Say -1- 2010 01 In My Head -2- 2010 02 Ridin' Solo -3- 2010 12 What If -4- 2010 51 Coming Home (Pixie Lott feat. Lewis Capaldi Before You Go 8th single from Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent Released: 19th November 2019 Label: Vertigo Berlin There's a massive jump upwards in points now as not only do we reach triple figures, we also soar closer to 200. Lewis Capaldi's fifth chart hit came from the re-issue of Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent (the biggest album of both 2019 and 2020 no less), and at the end of 2019, it debuted in the top 20 after a midweek release, showing just how strong a hit it was going to be. After two weeks at #2 before the year was out, and then a further three in 2020, a quiet week, some campaigning and some physicals provided Before You Go its opportunity to reach #1 at last. It became Lewis' second chart topper, and eventually his fifth single to cross one million chart sales - it's extremely impressive to look at his chart history below and see all five of his charting tracks being top 10 hits, all of them crossing one million! Will 2021 be the year Lewis hits us with his second album? With Someone You Loved and Before You Go both still charting, all eyes will be on him for a brand new era to see if he can match the success. Sales: 1,500k+ Certification: 2x Platinum 01 Sales 02 Audio Streaming 03 Video Streaming Video Biography Scottish singer/songwriter Lewis Capaldi began creating a buzz in early 2017 with the release of his debut single, "Bruises," a brooding exploration of a failed relationship that introduced his intimate piano and vocal sound. On the strength of his lone single, the Bathgate native sold out legendary Glasgow club King Tut's and notched millions of streams before dropping his follow-up single, the equally stark "Lost on You," later that summer. After signing with Virgin Records, Capaldi included both songs on his debut EP, Bloom, and capped off his banner year with a Scottish Music Award for Breakthrough Artist of the Year. The front half of 2018 was spent touring in North America and Europe in advance of his next single, "Rush," featuring Jessie Reyez. "Tough" followed a few months later. Both tracks were featured on his next EP, Breach, which arrived in November of that year. Capaldi's debut LP -- titled Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent -- arrived in May 2019 on Virgin EMI and featured the hit single "Bruises." - Apple Music Top 100 Chart History 2018 09 Grace -2- MILLIONAIRE 2018 01 Someone You Loved -3- MILLIONAIRE 2019 06 Bruises -1/5- MILLIONAIRE 2019 04 Hold Me While You Wait -4- MILLIONAIRE 2019 01 Before You Go -6- MILLIONAIRE 2 x #1 | 3 x Top 5 | 5 x Top 10 | 5 x Top 20 | 5 x Top 40 | 5 x Top 100 Social Media Lewis Capaldi |

That's a huge gap between 13th and 12th, but it's apt for the two songs involved!

There had to be a big jump in points at some point considering the songs so far were averaging barely 1 point per voter or even less than that lol ~
'Before You Go' isn't necessarily a song I'll ever feel a great need to go back to but it is one of Lewis' best singles for me. |

DaBaby featuring Roddy Ricch ROCKSTAR 2nd single from BLAME IT ON BABY Released: 17th April 2020 Label: South Coast Music Group / Interscope Records It was a tight battle throughout between DaBaby and Lewis for the #11 spot, though unfortunately neither really stood a good shot at the top 10. Nonetheless, the year's joint second longest running #1 scores a respectable tally for a track I expected to be much more marmite! DaBaby had only registered one top 40 hit to his name before ROCKSTAR debuted (as a feature on Camila Cabello's My Oh My). However, with a little help from Roddy Ricch who was fresh off a huge #2 hit in The Box, ROCKSTAR debuted top 40 simply as an album track from DaBaby's album. In its third week, it soared high up the chart, to #6 and then to #1 the week after, its take off being insanely quick and somewhat out of the blue. For me personally, the track clicked with the release of the Black Lives Matter remix, alongside a performance of it at the BET Awards that featured powerful imagery mirroring the murder of George Floyd. DaBaby has since scored another top 10 with Dua Lipa on Levitating (if you credit him there) but whether he'll nab a second hit as a lead artist is yet to be seen! Sales: 1,200k+ Certification: 2x Platinum 04 Sales 01 Audio Streaming 01 Video Streaming Video Biography In 2017, rapper DaBaby showed up to Austin’s South by Southwest festival wearing nothing but a diaper and sneakers—a gimmick, sure, but one that helped him go viral. Of course, that was the point: Since picking up the microphone in 2014, the Charlotte rapper (born Jonathan Lyndale Kirk in 1991) has demonstrated a keen awareness of how to cultivate presence in the internet era, coupling his bounciest tracks (“Suge,” “Walker Texas Ranger,” “Goin Baby,” “Baby Sitter”) with outrageous videos, crafting a persona by turns rude, violent, goofy, and dead serious. (His energy—he often sounds like he literally can’t wait to get on a track—can be so charismatic and infectious that you forget he’s rapping about how he’s prepared to mow down everyone in his way.) After a string of mixtapes, including eight released in 2017 and 2018 alone, he signed with Interscope in early 2019, releasing his first studio album, Baby on Baby, within a few months. - Apple Music Top 100 Chart History DaBaby 2019 97 INTRO -1- 2019 66 BOP -2- 2019 13 My Oh My (Camila Cabello feat. Before You Go is a bit too low here but at least there's a huge gap between that and the position below it!
That's a pretty decent top ten as well, voted for eight of them! |
