A big standout in the semi, I actually don't think I could name any other songs that sound like this! Thinking it will be a big grower as well, happy to see you making the final again.

This deserved so much better! I'm glad it at least managed to escape the bottom 5 though after it seemed to be lingering down there for a while. It was such a breath of fresh air in the final line-up wub.gif easily your best entry since 'Routine' which was always going to be hard to top.

BJSC100 - Untouchable by Anathema

Anathema are a Liverpool band formed in 1990 and originally called 'Pagan Angel'. The three Cavanagh brothers,Vincent,Daniel and Jamie are all part of the group. They recently won the album of the year award at the Progressive Music Awards for 'The Optimist'. Untouchable is from their ninth studio album 'Weather Systems' (2012). This song is not really prog rock at all. It sounds more like Coldplay but on a bigger scale.

Anathema have qualified from their semi-final and we are now looking forward to seeing how they get on in the historic 100th Buzzjack Song Contest Final. We thank all those countries who voted for 'Untouchable'. They may be interested in watching this clip from Anathema's recent concert at the Rollo Arena in Prosperity.

Not the only acceptable winner xx but this is pretty incredible Rollo, it's not super far off overtaking 'Routine' as my favourite from you to date!

^Okay there are a couple of others that are fine to win. xx

But really qualifiers as a whole were very disappointing to me and this was one of the few I was really happy about getting through, this is probably one of my favourite BJSC discoveries.

BJSC100 Stats

Untouchable by Anathema finished 11th in its semi-final with 151 points. It received points from 13 countries,4 of which gave it 18 points which was more than any other country in either semi-final. It finished 23rd in the final with 217 points. This is our second highest placing. Seyetana,Deandria,Terra Avium,Aelandor and Persephonia gave the song their maximum 18 points. Persephonia are the first country to give us 18 points in a final twice. The five 18s easily beat our national record of two set in all three of the previous finals we have reached and was also more than any country which finished in the top 10. As we expected, our song didn't have the overall appeal to ever have any chance of winning.

The full list of points received (countries voting for us for the first time in a final are shown in purple) :

I thought I would have been first on that list too! But then I guess I did only give Primitive Radio Gods one point (double figure points for all 3 of your other qualifiers though including 2 18s of course).

Always the bridesmaid it seems, but that's a great amount of points on both ends either way. You really have been a great new addition, Anathema was a wonderful discovery like I said and Routine was mainly responsible for getting me back into Steven Wilson just in time for his new material this year, more good to come from Rolloland in 2018 I'm sure *.

Oh wow, thank you so much King Rollo! A privilege to finish atop of your points list. happy.gif

Glad I was in your top 10 of points received too, I don't always like the tracks you send but you add a much needed sense of variety to the contest and that is always welcomed by me.

BJSC101 - The Great Escape by Marillion

Marillion still have a large and loyal fanbase but since the 80s,they have gradually become unknown to everyone else so it was only a matter of time before they were chosen to represent Rolloland,to bring one of their finest songs to a wider audience. The Great Escape is from their 1994 album 'Brave' which last year was voted by their fans as their favourite album by the band. In an exclusive interview with Radio Rollo, their lead singer,Steve Hogarth, explained the concept behind the album:

"It was round about this stage that the song ideas took me back to a memory of an intriguing radio broadcast from the Bristol Police some years ago on GWR radio. The police had picked up a young woman wandering on the Severn Bridge who refused or was unable to speak to them. In desperation, the appeal was broadcast to the general public in an attempt to discover her identity. I heard this on the radio and thought it was a great first page to a mystery story. I was also concerned for her and wrote a few words of support which of course she would never see or hear. 'Runaway' took me back to her, wondering what became of her and I thought we might dream up a story which would become a piece of music like a fictional documentary of her life and the circumstances which led her to the bridge. We now had a concept album on our hands at a time when the whole genre was and probably still is terribly unfashionable. Suits us just fine!"

A film was made based on the music and lyrics of the album and the scenes in this video are from that film. Whether this is all a bit too heavy for BJSC remains to be seen, but if you like The Great Escape, please vote for it.

Worldvision III - What Matters Most by 4 Strings & Fridolijn (The Netherlands)

4 Strings are Dutchmen Carlo Resoort and Jan De Vos. I know them for their 2000 single 'Daytime' which I entered into the first Dance Forum Song Contest. They have had one top 20 hit with 'Take Me Away (Into The Night) which reached no.15 in 2002. I wanted to find something more recent which also had vocals. Although a British featured singer might have been allowed under the rules,I wanted something with a Dutch singer to make this a fully Dutch entry. Fridolijn is from Amsterdam and does a mixture of folk, jazz and electronica. I listened to some of her songs and as beautiful as they are,I thought that this trance collaboration with 4 Strings would be more likely to pick up votes.
