Shall we recommence this oops

arrow up.gif 05 [07] Wallows - These Days

This still feels like a really odd one for me to like so much - if you had told me that a song by an American band whose lead singer is a TV personality would not only make my EOY Top 10, but would remain good enough to crack the Top 5 on the Reshuffle, then I would have thought you were batty. But nope, this piece remains an absolute tune, another song which wouldn't have felt right being a #1 but it certainly feels right to finish higher than most of them in my EOY. They've released some decent stuff since, however their most recent single hasn't charted for obvious reasons if you were to listen to it.

arrow up.gif 04 [08] Suzi Island - Show Me the Way

So Suzi Island appear to have acquired a girl at some point during this year. I don't know when as they were definitely a duo when their first two singles came out, but oh well, it gives me more of an excuse to say I include women in my personal chart (kink.gif). A big climb for this anyway, it remains the bop it always was and like so many other songs was paid pittance in BJSC. These guys are certainly one of my favourite emerging bands out there, they've not put a foot wrong so far!

arrow up.gif 03 [04] Rudimental - Toast To Our Differences (ft. Shungudzo, Protoje & Hak Baker)

I have to admit this feels a little weird being ahead of Suzi/Wallows, but it must still have grabbed me on its listen as I listened to them all in one sitting, plus how much I absolutely loved this back in the summer. I have no idea whether Rudimental have released anything this year and I'm not that bothered really, this could very well be their last hurrah. But this is still a tune and will probably sound good when I'm on my holidays.

arrow right.gif 02 [02] Owl City - Lucid Dream

Commentary

I feel like I say this every year but oh well - I was in two minds about changing the #1 and almost did, but this track just falls short again. It was the first song of that year that I really took notice of, and it still sounds great now. It's nothing like anything else Owl City has done (even if the other stuff he's done is still great), and is the song that stands out when I look at his discography. No charting songs from him this year yet but hopefully that will change!

arrow right.gif 01 [01] Amy Shark - I Said Hi

Commentary

As I've just said, I was very close to swapping #1 and #2, but this just edges it out. It's a beautiful song, and I think it probably has worn off on me a little bit but those wonderful vocals plus a brill melody have kept the song right where it was. It's an absolute tune, and I don't think I'd have even batted an eyelid at Amy again if not for this song. Instead, she's become one of my favourites. The only change in chart stats this year is the single release of 'Mess Her Up' getting her a new peak, but I'm certainly excited for new music from her!
