BuzzJack Music Forum _ Chart Histories _ Who topped your personal chart on your 16th & 21st birthdays

Me first then.

When I turned sweet 16 I was smack dab in the middle of my Roy-Wood-Obsession:

He'd knocked his own Wizzard Xmas classic off the top spot, and everything on this track is Roy Wood, nothing is anyone else, all instruments and voices are him. I was impressed by that.

For my 21st it was this:

Err, how appropriate! laugh.gif

laugh.gif why not!

The remix of 'Summertime Sadness' by Lana Del Rey vs. Cedric Gervais was #1 on my chart during my 16th birthday in 2013!

Then it was '1999 WILDFIRE' by BROCKHAMPTON for my 21st birthday in 2018!

Strange coincidence - I am seeing both BROCKHAMPTON and Lana Del Rey live for the first time this year ohmy.gif

On my 16th birthday (from my archive): Andreas Bourani - Auf Uns
On my 21st birthday: Alvaro Soler - La Libertad

I started my Personal Chart one month after I turned 16 and I'm yet to turn 21 so I'm yet to have an answer! It would have almost definitely have been 7 Years had I started my personal chart that few weeks earlier though.

7 Years is sort of quite a mature choice - it's covering life moments in retrospect and is about as spookily relevant as you can get for this theme biggrin.gif

Well, I know the names, but I couldnt hum the tune of Andreas laugh.gif Playing it now. Nice string riff to it. La Libertad I liked, I should have charted it, now I'm playing it again!

The number one on my 16th birthday was Despacito (the original, rather than the Bieber version which climbed to UK number one the same week!), and I haven’t reached 21 yet biggrin.gif

Anthem! I was in London one hot Pride day and hordes were trying to sway to it even though there was no room in the street laugh.gif

Birthday: 11th March

#1 on my 16th birthday in 2013 was this, at the time, demo from Lucie Silvas! It later featured on her album Letters to Ghosts in 2015.

21st birthday in 2018 was week 1 of 2 for Why Don't We with Trust Fund Baby! Their first of eleven #1s (to date).

I don't know either of those, and the Lucie Silvas track especially is really nice, should have been a single! I'd charted her 3 times in the mid-noughties but she sort of dropped from my radar after that which is a shame. I'll keep an eye out in future smile.gif

16th. Lana Del Rey vs. Cedric Gervais - Summertime Sadness [2013]

21st. Fatum - Mowgli [2018]

All of them:
(13th. Eminem feat. Rihanna - Love The Way You Lie) - pre-dated my chart by a few weeks, was my unofficial backdated #1
14th. Rizzle Kicks - Down With The Trumpets
15th. Porter Robinson - Language
16th. Lana Del Rey vs. Cedric Gervais - Summertime Sadness
17th. Moko - Your Love
18th. KSHMR - Jammu
19th. Kungs vs. Cookin' On 3 Burners - This Girl
20th. Calvin Harris - Feels [feat. Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry and Big Sean]
21st. Fatum - Mowgli
22nd. Avicii - Heaven [feat. Chris Martin]

surprised it took so long for Avicii to do it!

My 16th birthday was soundtracked by Common People by Pulp, what an anthem!

My 21st was Summer Moved On by a-ha, not quite as classic but I do still really like it. They were so good for those albums in the 00s

16 (2005) Doves 'Black and White Town' - I still absolutely adore this
21 (2010) I Blame Coco feat. Robyn 'Caesar'- very much in Robyn obsession at this time, her third of 5 number 1 singles. Do still like this though not something I listen to lots.

I've only had 3 birthdays while hosting a chart so far laugh.gif

18th Ofenbach vs. Nick Waterhouse — Katchi
19th Hilltop Hoods — Exit Sign (feat. Illy & Ecca Vandal)
20th Khalid & Disclosure — Know Your Worth

It's interesting to look at considering the songs there and comparing how much I listened to them then and now. The week following Katchi, George Ezra's Paradise rose to #1 and became one of my biggest songs of the year and ultimately one of my favourite songs of the 2010s. Similarly, the week Exit Sign declined from the top was the first week Lewis Capaldi's Someone You Loved was at #1 - which again became one of my biggest songs of the year. This year Know Your Worth spent the week of my birthday at #1 followed by Tones and I's Bad Child the week after... so only time will tell if the pattern continues! At this rate it kind of is tbh, I like Know Your Worth and it is still in my chart but I much prefer Talk!

In my non-canon chart of early 2017 Zedd & Alessia Cara's Stay was #1 during both my birthday week and the week after.

21st: Graffiti6 - Free (which is still a good song but was replaced the next week by the much more memorable 'Gold On The Ceiling' by The Black Keys wub.gif)
