 Following the singles rate hosted wonderfully by Haus in the Pop Forum, I thought it was apt to end the year by establishing Buzzjack's ultimate Madonna album track, before we're welcomed by ~10 brand new album tracks early next year. I've listed below what I believe is all of Madonna's album tracks (if there's any missing/mistakes, please let me know!) but I'm aware it would be hard work asking you to rate them all, so instead PM me your list of favourite Madonna non-singles - a minimum of Top 10 and a maximum of Top 40, with #1 being your ultimate favourite). Each song receives scores by point system, i.e. if you most a Top 40, #40 gets one point and #1 gets 40 points. Deadline is Friday 5th December, with results hopefully being revealed from 1st December to the end of that month. No posting lists in this thread, but clues are welcome. Remember only album tracks (that weren't singles) are allowed, no live, acoustic or remixes. Basically any from the list below. I think I've covered everything, but any queries you have, please ask! 'Nobody Knows Me' was just a US promo single so I think it can be still classed as an album track. I was only including album tracks from the albums which Madonna has a lead crediting on (The Next Best Thing is credited as Various Artists). I did have to think about 'Into the Hollywood Grove' but I'm sure it had new lyrics inserted so I thought it would be worth including. |

I've worked out how to make this countdown finish on Christmas Day, so countdown will start tomorrow (I promise!)

Kicking things off is 'Forbidden Love' from perhaps the least known Madonna album, Bedtime Stories. I'm slowly but surely liking the album and after listening to Something to Remember a lot recently, which this track also features on, 'Forbidden Love' has secured itself as my favourite Bedtime Stories non-single. It sounds so slick and relaxed; the lyrics sound quite dreamy too. Probably wouldn't work as a single but it's certainly a strong album track. 39 // Mother and Father // American Life // 81pts. First of the American Life tracks - which has all six of its non-singles in the Top 40 - is 'Mother and Father', a song described by Madonna as "a way to free [her] from the pain caused by [her] mother's death". The instrumental is great, as is the meaning of the lyrics (although some of them are a bit dodgy "My father had to go to work/I used to think he was a jerk") but I don't like her vocals 38 // I'm So Stupid // American Life // 84pts. "Aaaaaaaaahhhhhhi'm so stupid" - perhaps the most ear-bleeding noise I've heard in a Madonna track! Definitely one I skip on the album. |
