New additions are a bit thin on the ground this week but I'm really happy to see BLOXX finally being supported, as I've been a fan of them for a while now!

I'm flabbergasted not to see Clean Bandit though ohmy.gif kinda surprised they didn't add 24kGoldn too, but I guess it wouldn't have been on the verge of the Top 10 on Tuesday when they had the playlist meeting.

Also why no Biffy Clyro, Sub Focus/Wilkinson, Bastille? sad.gif

Posted by: Jade 28th August 2020, 09:02 AM

Love that Biig Pig song wub.gif and oh wow my Nuggets entrants BLOXX moving up in the world *.*

Posted by: Bjork 28th August 2020, 09:06 AM

no London Grammar either :/
poor update overall

Posted by: Dan17F1 28th August 2020, 09:11 AM

Surprised that James Bay has been taken off after only 3 weeks on the C List. A shame for him because it was a good song too.
Looking at the playlist runs, they were a bit limited really with what they could remove and add because the only song on there that I think has had too long is Anne Marie and Doja Cat.

I’d be very surprised if London Grammar aren’t added next week, along with The Vamps and Raye, as all 3 of them have been played lots this last week.

Finally, nice to see BTS on there, as well as Koffee. Haven’t heard Bloxx or Biig Piig’s new songs yet but it’s nice to see some newer artists added to the main playlist.

So sad James Bay hasn't done anything, easily his best yet and it sounds like such a massive song. cry.gif

Yeah I completely agree. R1 have always been big supporters of him too, which makes it all the more surprising that a new lead single got such limited support unsure.gif

So next week:

London Grammar
The Vamps
RAYE
Clean Bandit
Bastille
Biffy Clyro
Sub Focus/Wilkinson
24KGoldn

They've got no excuse not to playlist any of those. Now watch them just add one of them...

It's odd, it does sound huge, I thought it might be a bit of a surprise big comeback hit like James Arthur's Say You Won't Let Go.

But Spotify haven't supported it and the radio stations that have added it have it low or now removed from playlists. It's a weird one because I'm sure if it had been the follow up to Hold Back The River it would have been a massive top five and radio staple, I guess timing is everything. No matter how strong a song is, you can't get a hit if nobody knows it.

But I can't even explain why Spotify or radio haven't got behind it because as you say it sounds massive and it's that big radio-friendly singer/songwriter sound which usually gets lapped up. It is really odd - easily one of the most shocking flops of the year for me.

Wish radio would give up on Anne-Marie like they have James Bay. Her songs really are not worth multiple weeks on the A List imo!

Yeah, this era is a real step down from the likes of 'Alarm' and 'Ciao Adios' - I'm actually starting to get the Buzzjack hate for her! Tbh if she keeps putting out sub-standard stuff like this then I'm sure she'll start to alienate even R1 pretty soon.

Posted by: HiyaLuv 28th August 2020, 10:16 AM

AM has always been Jessie J II with a shorter shelf life.

I'm guessing the fact his second era was a pretty gigantic flop may have hindered him, it was always gonna be an uphill struggle after that.

If only he'd came back with this song last time!

How is that Anne Marie flop still on the A-list? laugh.gif #194 on iTunes and #270 on Apple Music.

What’s the longest song to stay on the C List (with or without progressing to B or A Llst)?

Since I started tracking the playlist in 2012, it's 'Fake Happy' by Paramore, which was added on 22nd Dec 2017 and spent 7 weeks on the C-list before being removed.

M4NGO will know for sure but I think a couple of years ago a Paramore song stayed on there for 8 weeks!!

Still no Clean Bandit. Wish they’d remove Anne-Marie in place of CB seeing as the former is doing nothing at the moment

It's weird how badly Anne-Marie's current one is doing considering how well it's done at radio. Even my Dad really likes it. Is it nowhere on the streaming playlists?

Posted by: LMLou 28th August 2020, 11:50 AM

Again not the most exciting week for adds but really glad to see Daisy up to the B-List

Posted by: Bjork 28th August 2020, 11:51 AM

To be Young was insta-added to Spotify Hots Hits UK on release day, and it's been pretty high,
now it's lower though...

I don't think she really is overly likeable or has resonated with the public overall apart from the hits she had which people passively liked as they were catchy. Just my opinion obviously.

Wow at Paramore spending 7 weeks in the C-List, I assume the Christmas period may have helped its weeks!

Posted by: JosephStyles 28th August 2020, 01:39 PM

re. James Bay, Radio 1 snubbed Peer Pressure entirely I think so I'm not overly shocked by the small level of support Chew On My Heart's received. It's a huge disappointment anyway, I'd say it's his second best song after only Hold Back the River! Deserved so much more.

On a similar note, I'm sad that Obvious Guy only stalled on the C list as well, and JC Stewart's going the same way....! drama.gif

It's not a great update when there's a lot of new music around to latch onto. Clean Bandit feel like a notable omission so far for sure, but 24kGoldn and Conan Gray surely aren't far off being playlisted too with their quick ascents in the past couple of weeks? thinking.gif

Posted by: Steve201 28th August 2020, 02:59 PM

I would have thought 24Goldn would be sure to have been added, its climbing quickly up spotify, albeit the last single on reached the B-List and it was a relative success.

Just nitpicking again but Ashnikko seems to have had a stray 'i' added to her name while Biig Piig had one removed basil.gif kink.gif (I see the latter is a typo on the actual R1 website in fairness x)

Definitely an unnecessarily slow week of additions here but I am sure most if not all of the omissions pointed out in here will be added within the next couple of weeks. Can't say I care a lot about any of the C-List additions but hoping I will like the Calvin song x

That Declan McKenna song moving up to the A-List feels like such old news already, easily the weakest single from this era for me which he has already since followed up with the best single of the era, I wish it was 'Be An Astronaut' that was here instead.

I agree, I feel he has lost some momentum for the album with this third release after the fantastic first two singles. Guess its not really his fault there was a global pandemic lol. Maybe when the albums released in a few weeks radio will quickly turn to 'Be An Astronaut'.

re instead.

Yeah, I copied 'Biig Pig' straight from the website, not being very familiar with the artist, but the superfluous 'i' in Ashnikko was my bad, thanks as ever for the nitpicking x

Nice to see Calvin & The Weeknd heading straight to the A list (and Tate McRae being added) but otherwise a fairly disappointing update, really not sure why Mood and Tick Tock haven't been added yet! Also seems pretty late for Fake Friends to be making its way to the A list this week laugh.gif

Posted by: Steve201 29th August 2020, 01:07 PM

Yeh it was on the rise 2 weeks ago and they kept it in the B-List an extra two weeks

Random question, which may well have waited until tomorrows new playlist, but has any of 'The Magic Gangs' singles moved up beyond the C-List?

Yes, three of them were B-listed:
Getting Along (2018)
Think (2020)
Take Back The Track (2020)

Posted by: Steve201 3rd September 2020, 11:50 PM

Thanks, just seemed weird the pre album track was only C-Listed.
