Okay guys, I used to run this game as part of a online football manager game forum and it was a surprise success! I mentioned it a few months ago and Mack has asked me if I'd try it on here, so here we go - apologies if there are some teething troubles as it was a few years ago now that I used to do this game!
>> RULES Anyway, the rules! It is so simple that you don't even need to watch F1 to take part, as you can just guess. Of course a bit of F1 knowledge may give you an advantage, but then again it may not. Basically there are ten teams in this year's F1 season (as things stand), so that means they are going to be ten Team Battles. All you have to do is try and predict which driver in each team will qualify higher, and then finish the race higher (or last longer if both team members fail to finish - yes I'm looking at you McLaren!). Using the Force India "team battle" as an example, if you think that Hülkenberg will qualify higher and finish the race higher than his team-mate Pérez then all you need to do is put a "Q" and "R" next to his name to predict this: Force India: Hülkenberg [Q, R] vs Perez Or if you choose, you could spread your bets and decide that while you think Pérez may qualify higher, you think Hülkenberg is more reliable in the race and will finish the race the higher of the two. Therefore, you'd predict the team battle like this: Force India: Hülkenberg [Q] vs Perez [R] And then you just do that for each of the ten teams! In the event of a driver replacing another, then predictions from the original driver will carry over directly to the replacement driver. So of course F1 knowledge of knowing each driver's strengths and current form could put you at an advantage, but there is nothing to stop complete F1 novices from making completely random guesses and joining in. >> SCORING You get one point for a correct prediction of the highest qualifier in each team and two points for a correct prediction of the highest race finisher in each time. You also then have the opportunity to predict who will be on pole position and win the race, and five points are available for each of these predictions if you get them correct to make a total of 40 points available on each race weekend! This will hopefully run for the first 10 races of the season if there is interest, and we can start it again for the second half of the season if desired. >> QUICK INSTRUCTIONS So that all seems quite complicated, all you need to do is put a Q and an R next to a driver in each team and predict the pole position winner and race winner using the template in the post below, and then just post in this topic! The rest will all make sense as we go along! |

This is the template you need to use for the Australian Grand Prix next weekend, so just quote this into a post of your own and put your Qs and Rs where you desire! Just make sure you submit your predictions before the qualifying session on the morning of March 14th!
Ferrari: Räikkönen vs Vettel Force India: Hülkenberg vs Pérez Lotus: Grosjean vs Maldonado Manor: Stevens vs Merhi McLaren: Button vs Magnussen Mercedes: Hamilton vs Rosberg Red Bull: Kvyat vs Ricciardo Sauber: Ericsson vs Nasr Toro Rosso: Sainz Jr. vs Verstappen Williams: Bottas vs Massa Pole position: Race winner: Of course we don't know the second Manor driver yet, so feel free to make a prediction and then edit it when we do find out. |

I'm going to try this. I used to watch formula 1 with my family occasionally when it was on bbc1 but I like haven't seen it at all since half the races moved to sky. Anyway I kind of know some of the racers so hopefully I won't do too badly

Thanks for the interest so far! Roberto Merhi has been confirmed as the second Manor driver, so there's no excuses now to not be posting your predictions! A couple of days left to submit.

Gosh, I haven't paid attention to F1 in YEARS. I'll give this a go though, didn't even realise Kimi Raikkonen was back. I assume that's Jos Verstappen's son? I doubt he'd be back at his age!

Yes it is his son! He's only 17, which makes him the youngest ever F1 driver unless I'm missing someone obvious!

Nope, comfortably the youngest ever. Previous holder of that title was Jaime Alguersuari at the age of 19 on his debut in 2009.

I don't know what was going through my fingers when I put Button down as the winner... I definitely thought it would be Hamilton (because I thought it'd be a Mercedes 1-2, probably because Button always used to be my favourite driver lol). Is it too late to change my answer?
