They all sound like great predictions, I’m awful at predicting things like this though so I won’t do my own :’)
Think it’s pretty certain anyway but praying Florence gets her supporting actress nomination 🙌🏼 That category is probably the strongest for me, I’d be happy with any of those you’ve listed winning the award, all incredible performances.

I’d love to see Greta nominated too but like you say, that’s an absolute bloodbath.

That picture line-up is fab tho! (F v F unseen)

Posted by: Jonjo 13th January 2020, 02:09 PM

Double ScarJo <3 <3

I low-key want her to win more for Jojo Rabbit than for Marriage Story. Oops.

Posted by: LewisGT 13th January 2020, 02:24 PM

I'm shocked that J.Lo missed out. I thought she was as close as a lock-in as possible ohmy.gif

I know Todd Phillips would get a director nod though.

Quite happy with my predictions, especially my Antonio Banderas pick.

I also got the 9 best picture & the 10 screenplay nominations spot on!!! cheer.gif

Posted by: Chez Wombat 13th January 2020, 07:07 PM

Wow at Joker, that's only second behind Titanic in most nominations ever! ohmy.gif I knew it would get a few, but it was relatively muted in the other ceremonies and doesn't have the best critical response so I wasn't sure, excellent to see though, it was deservedly one of the talking points of last year.

A shame to see Greta Gerwig miss Best Director as I thought this would've been a good chance, but I'm not massively surprised. Knives Out and The Lighthouse only getting one is quite surprising too, I was hopeful for the latter, I'll take any horror representation at the Oscars. Lovely to see Klaus get a nomination even if I doubt it’ll beat Toy Story, beautiful film wub.gif

I've only seen two of the Best Picture noms atm (Joker and ...Hollywood) but it's certainly looking a better line-up than last year. Not that it could possibly get worse from two painfully average films being the top winners!

Poor JLo I knew she wouldn’t get a nomination never mind a win. Such a shame.

Posted by: Jonjo 4th February 2020, 05:01 PM

Next Sunday!

I'll probably open up a new thread with a little game concept or something. Just for fun.

But are any of you making your way through the nominations, like I am? How many have you seen?

Of the 7 main categories (Best Pic, Director, Actor, Actress, S Actor, S Actress & Animation) I still needs to see...

- Richard Jewell (seeing on Thurs)
- Bombshell (seeing on Thurs)
- A Beautfiul Day In the Neighbourhood (Next Wed)
- Harriet
- Pain & Glory
- The Two Popes (UGHHHHHH)
- I Lost My Body
- Klaus (Probs won't bother until xmas. Dunno. I might watch it after I've seen The Two Popes and clear my head)

Posted by: Chez Wombat 4th February 2020, 09:05 PM

I've almost seen all of the Best Picture nominations, not sure I'll bother with Ford v Ferrari though as the subject matter really doesn't interest me at all and I'm hearing its one of the more 'filler' picks. I am seeing Parasite this weekend though and would've then seen all but one. It's a verrrry close bunch this year, good as they're all at least 8/10 but it's lacking a standout, I'm hoping Parasite will be that going by the reviews I'm seeing! My favourites thus far are probably Joker and Little Women, crowd pleasing options I guess, but they were just really good re-imaginings of source material that made me think a lot! (The latter I read the book leading up to it, and it fixed a lot of problems I had with it which was wonderful).

I do intend to see The Lighthouse too, even if it only has one nomination :'(

Posted by: LewisGT 5th February 2020, 03:24 PM

I try and watch all the films nominated for the picture, director, acting and screenplay awards (still haven't seen First Reformed from last year yet though due to having no local cinema/not available to rent anywhere).

Out of this year's films I still need to see

1917 (I was meant to see this & Bombshell last week but I missed them)
A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood
Bombshell
Harriet
Judy
Le Mans '66
Pain And Glory
Parasite
Richard Jewell

It has been a brilliant year for Best Picture noms this year I think. Out of the ones I've seen so far 'The Irishman' is probably my least favourite but I still really enjoyed that. OUATIH, Jojo Rabbit & Little Women are all 10/10's and I would struggle to pick between them.

Posted by: J▲hq 5th February 2020, 07:28 PM

I didn't bother with "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood", "Joker" or "Ford v Ferrari" whilst they were in cinemas because I wasn't interested by trailers/subject matters and at the time, they didn't have Oscar nominations attached. "The Irishman" I'm going to willingly pass on, but "Parasite" will hopefully bring my Best Pic count over 50% this weekend.

The actor categories look woeful for me, only seen one from each (Adam Driver & Tom Hanks), but on the flipside, I'm only missing one actress (Cynthia Erivo).

Renée and Margot would be my choices to win, and "Little Women" is my favourite of the four Best Picture nominees I've seen so far (but "1917" is narrowly behind, would be a very worthy winner)

Posted by: FUTURE NOSTALGIA 6th February 2020, 03:58 AM

- 1917
- A Beautiful Day In The Neighbourhood
- Bombshell
- Richard Jewell

damn I'm not doing well, gonna have to do a film a day ahhh

Posted by: blacksquare 6th February 2020, 10:45 AM

Parasite to win, please.

The best picture nominations are quite a woeful selection considering some of the quality films released last year.

Posted by: Hadji 7th February 2020, 09:11 PM

They need to get Jack Nicholson to present the best actor Oscar incase Joaquin Phoenix wins it so the Oscar would be passed from one Joker to another

Posted by: FUTURE NOSTALGIA 10th February 2020, 12:36 AM

25 mins!

Posted by: Jαsє 10th February 2020, 01:10 AM

screaming at Toy Story winning that after all that crazy race!!

Posted by: FUTURE NOSTALGIA 10th February 2020, 03:23 AM

14/17 so far, easy easy year haha.

Scorsese's, Idina and Billie's reactions to Eminem and Billie's reaction to Kristen/Maya are the highlights of the night.

Posted by: Jonjo 10th February 2020, 03:33 AM

Billie seems so out of her comfort zone lmao.

No standing ovation for Elton... Interesting.

Posted by: I. :II: z 10th February 2020, 03:39 AM

Good things so far include 1917 winning the roundup of technical filming awards, which is well deserved there, and Parasite coming away with at least a couple, still holding out hope it wins Best Picture though.

Posted by: FUTURE NOSTALGIA 10th February 2020, 03:53 AM

WOW!!!!

That came out of nowhere, so shocked Mendes lost!! Yasssss Bong 😍😍

Probably not a big deal to all of you but Iceland is SO proud today as Hildur Guðnadóttir has become the first Icelander to win an Oscar with her Best Original Score win last night and AFAIK only the second woman ever to win the award for Best Original Score which is huge. She's so adorable and this is so well deserved. 2019 was a huge year for her and as she was the late Jóhannes Jóhannsson apprentice seeing her continue his legacy on like this is so heartwarming.
