How I compile my charts:

With a few exceptions, I don't go out of my way to seek out new songs - I usually wait until I hear them on the radio. I mainly listen to Radio 1 and for this reason, most (though not all) songs in my chart are those which are played on Radio 1. I don't usually add a song to my chart until it's started gaining some airplay.

Songs generally tend to climb gradually as they grow on me, peak and then fall fast, so the chart looks similar to an 80s/90s singles chart. I also usually get bored of a song within a few weeks, so songs don't generally tend to hang around the chart for more than a few weeks - typically around 9 or 10 weeks for a Number 1.


This week's chart commentary:
* Madonna takes the crown from Kygo this week with 'Ghosttown', in what is the tightest week at the top for a long time; in a quieter week, any of the Top 4 would have easily been #1.
* In the whole of 2014, only one song entered this chart in the Top 10; we're only just in April 2015 and already 3 songs have achieved the feat (with a 4th absolutely certain to chart in the upper reaches very soon). This week's Top 10 new entry belongs to Carly Rae Jepsen with 'I Really Like You', hoping to emulate the success of 'Call Me Maybe' which was #1 on this chart almost exactly 2 years ago.
* Ed Sheeran registers his 4th straight Top 10 hit from his current album x, with 'Bloodstream' this week climbing to #7 to equal the peak of 'Sing'.

Hey Dude

Ooh look at Madge getting that #1 such a good track even if it is flopping on my chart!

That Nick Jonas track is actually quite good but I can't see myself charting it.

Yass at Carly entering the top 5 straight away. Dead cert for future #1 here then

A massive yes at Clean Bandit entering. It's a great song however there are better tracks on the album I think although I Really don't see the point in continuing to push singles from this album after this one.

Hi!

Great to see 'Ghosttown' quickly get to #1; I've never been bored of it since its premiere in December and the video has made me really love it again. Also, I'm glad you like 'You'll See' - as with all Madonna ballads, this is stunning and a great vocal performance.

I've not been that keen on Carly Rae Jepsen's new song, just seems rather bland in comparison to 'Call Me Maybe' and 'Tonight (I'm Getting Over You)'.
