New album from Public Service Broadcasting was confirmed yesterday. It will be called "The Race For Space" and is going to be 'launched' (oh dear) from the National Space Centre in Leciester.

A single is due in November, in the meantime - here is a trailer...

We’ve been working on it since January 2013, researching the history, finding suitable topics to write about and acquiring some amazing footage. It’s an incredible, and unique, period of history and one which we hope we have been able to do some small shred of justice to with the music we’ve written. We’ll be debuting a new video in November, but until then we have some other exciting news for February next year...

I'm both incredibly excited and very sceptical. Not sure how they can take their style of music further but I can't wait to find out!

Colour me very excited indeed. They released both the best single and album of last year, and I'm looking forward to seeing what they offer this time around. Rather nice that the promo references Everest, one of their earlier songs.

It's always good to have a reason to look forward to February. After all, it's a pretty rubbish month for the most part.

A gloriously silly video to accompany the first song from the new album...

I hope to goodness that it really is Willgoose and Wrigglesworth dancing in that video. I couldn't stop laughing the first time I saw it.

11,000 hits in the first 24 hours. It looks like this one's going to go viral.

It would be such a let-down if it wasn't really them laugh.gif

It's nice enough, however I am a little underwhelmed by it if I'm honest, especially after the wonderful "Elfstedentocht Part 2" single earlier this year.

I hope it grows on me. Incidentally with the recent comet landing and the UK crowdfunded moon landing in 2024 and Mars One scheduled for the same sort of time, this is arriving at pretty appropriate point IMO.

Currently listening to the album. At the moment, all I can say is that it's a lot more subtle and not as immediate as their first album, and the vocals are a lot more integrated into the music as they have been in the past. Quite a few really long tracks as well.

*Is very jealous*

Do you think "Gagarin" is a good indicator of the album style, or are we in for a bit of a surprise?

"Gagarin" is definitely not the best indicator of the sound of the album, a lot of the rest isn't as upbeat as that one. It's a bit Sigur Ros-y in parts, surprisingly.

Oh, I missed this update. In the meantime the rest of us wait patiently to be able to hear the album for ourselves.

They did a session for Marc Riley a few days ago, playing Everest, Gagarin, and new single Go!, complete with a 4-piece brass section. Sounding really good, will have to catch them when they return to Belfast again.

The debut was more soundscapes built up from various old (I'm guessing now public domain) audio sources - don't recall any old PSAs as such though. Before that was The War Room EP which was exclusively WWII I think.

Just grabbed this last night and about to give it my first listen smile.gif

Having waited patiently to be able to acquire the album legitimately, I can now say that it is brilliant.

It's at #6 in the first sales flashes. I hope it stays top 10 by the end of the week, although it'll probably drop due to a combination of the Brit Awards and streaming adversely affecting it.
