Hello then, it is I, ► ▲ N, who will be hosting the nineteenth edition of Unknown Pleasures. It feels great to finally get to host one of these song contests
Of course, this follows my win with 'Lucifer's Eyes' by T.O.L.D. Remind yourselves of how it sounded like:
There will be no fancy graphics, because I'm not Iggy Azalea, but I assure you there'll be thermo-level wit, no mistakes, and everything will run on time. 
Rules then, because every good contest has rules:
• there is no strict rule with regard to genre or length, but please do send something you think is suited to this competition, to help establish an identity away from BJSC
• the indie mods (Jake, Grebo and 152chris) reserve the right to veto a song they feel is not indie or unknown enough for the contest
• auto-vetos will be handed out for any of the following reasons:
- • the artist has made the UK Top 75 singles chart or the UK Top 40 albums chart
- • the artist has previously been sent into http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=139865 or http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=104463 (make use of these links when deciding on your entry)
- • the artist has already been sent by someone else in this contest (an artist cannot have 2 songs in the same contest)
- • the song is on the http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=173912
• do not reveal your own entry to anyone or even hint at what you have sent, it defeats the whole point of this contest
How do I confirm my entry then, I hear you ask?
• If you are undecided but still wish to take part, reserve your place in this thread.
• Then when you're ready, send your entry to me, ► ▲ N, via PM. In your PM you must include the name of the song and the artist(s) behind it, alongside an audio link. It is also advised that you send an mp3 link as well, preferably in high quality
• There will be no more than 32 entries allowed in the contest, so be fast. You can still confirm after the 32 reservations/confirmations have been taken up, then you will be put on the waiting list.
• You have until Saturday 24 January, 11:59PM to confirm. Any confirmations after this time will not be counted. The voting thread will then open the following day.

just a reminder guys that this competition is all about celebrating the best of indie and alteryantive music. we all want UP to stand bright with its own identity. bush the envelope with song legngth, genre etc, lets make the most unusual and different stuff be celebrated and sdo well. and if you are entering the competition when you don't ever post in the indie forum then it probably isn't the competition for you, that or postm more pls.!
the indie mods will do the usual brief checks to make sure all pleasures actually are unknown~

i hate to be blunt but there are a few people who want to enter yet i can't recall them having posted a single time in this forum? why are you entering if you don't hold any interest to post in the forum?

me neither, people shouldn't be shamed for taking part and not being very active in the forum. The contest wouldn't be as popular if it was just limited to regular indie users and strict indie songs (I wouldn't be here if I couldn't send left field dance) so I hope it doesn't go down that route

The point Jake's making is that in order to keep this a competition with its own identity, it should be populated by people interested in the music in this forum and helping it grow. That doesn't mean they need to have posted, although if you are interested I don't see why you wouldn't, but it's to discourage people coming here just for glory by entering something that's vaguely alternative and would storm BJSC the same way it'd storm this while having little to no interest in the music that sets this forum apart from the rest of the genre forums.

I'd say most of the people in the contest do have an interest in indie music though even if it's only certain types of indie or if it's just a relatively small interest (like myself); it's good to get entries from the casual indie fans too~
anyway I'd like to think that Lucifer's Eyes was indie enough to not fit the 'storming BJSC' description even if it was only vaguely alternative, if that's what you're hinting at.

Wasn't actually thinking of Lucifer's Eyes actually, just in general, tracks that could have been entered to BJSC and gotten through the semis no problem aren't great to see here. Because it tends to make the contest boring and just a BJSC spinoff.
But the thing is I see this as different from BJSC, here it's great that you can enter unusual music, weird music, music that may have very little current fans here, and see how it does, see if you gain any fans. There's no risk so it's easy to see it as not about the glory. Or at least that should be the case.

I've confirmed my entry by the way, I won't be aiming for a win this contest but I hope it gets some fans. It's not something I'd enter to BJSC anyway (i.e. not deep house)

I have been guilty of just sending BJSC castoffs in the past but I am making an effort to send songs that are actually 'alternative' now (a strategy which paid off nicely with GOAT but that will probably prove to be a one off).
Actually I think I do have a song for this, or an artist at least (may have to mull over which song to send). Will try to get a confirmation in tonight. I'm going for an 'either top 5 or bottom 5' strategy again.

look, i don't want to be abrupt or a dick but guys...this is UNKNOWN PLEASURES not BJSC FOR SLIGHTLY MORE LEFT OF FIELD ENTRIES. stuff like marika hackman and panda bear are going to get an instant NO because they aren't unknown and are actually well known and aren't what this competition is about.
don't want to be a dick to anybody but this isn't bjsc and just THINK. sending a a member of one of the indie world's best known and successful bands, animal collective with a song from their recently pitchfork best new music'd record, with a thread on this forum for the album, it isn't going to make it through...

Is it bad that I didn't know until like yesterday that Panda Bear was the guy from Animal Collective oop. (His solo material that I've heard is nowhere near as good as the Animal Collective stuff I've heard anyway - which admittedly is NOT VERY MUCH on both counts)

can I remind people to check the UP and BJSC song lists before confirming? It only takes a few seconds to Ctrl+F the artist name. Any artists that have already been sent to UP/BJSC will be vetoed.

I was so busy trying to send something with an unusual structure, 6 minute plus etc that I actually managed to end up sending something that had been in the best of 2014 thread. Oooops. Not that lots of people would have been really familiar with it I don't think, I only heard it for the first time this month.
Bizarrely, the song I may end up sending instead is probably far less suited to this contest but not sure what else to go for now.

oops it was actually me who called it out dandy*, it's one of those songs that i have seen MASS amounts of exposure obv (mostly through following other artists on social media who have given it praise), as well as it being quite well regarded on best of lists for the video and for the song itself, it might just be cos i am SUPER familiar with it

i don't feel like my song is COMPLETELY UP either but it is absolutely bonkers and left-of-field in its approach, and is probably my favourite UP song ive ever sent no bjsc castoffs in this bitch !!!!!

My song is relatively similar to the song I sent last time but definitely still feels like a deviance from my first entry, very excited for this. Adore the tune even if it probably won't do much at all contest-wise.
