Nothing can stop 5SOS as they run away with the #1 spot for a 4th week in a row, the longest reigning Australian #1 since Justice Crew's 9 week reign in 2014. As has been the case for most of the year, Post Malone sits at #2, but he might have to make room for Maroon 5 next week whose digital sales are far ahead of his, but they're still a long way away from #1, continuing their run of bad luck that results in their only #1 single being "She Will Be Loved". An artist who is seeing their highest heights is Selena Gomez, whose "Back To You" ties "It Ain't Me" as her highest charting single ever. Kanye West also returns to the top 10 for the first time since "FourFiveSeconds" as "All Mine" finally gets its streams properly counted and climbs up to #10. It's another big week for Kanye too, last week he had the 3rd ever album (if you count The Weeknd's EP) to chart every single track on the chart, and he's done it again this week with his Kid Cudi collaboration "Kids See Ghosts", though most of them are in the lower half of the chart this time around. Peking Duk's 2 track release "Reprisal" sees them back into the top 50 after previous single "Wasted" broke their streak, and it looks to be their highest charter in a while at that. NOTD's "I Wanna Know" also belatedly charts even though it's been heavily streamed for ages, and even made the iTunes top 100 a few weeks ago as well. Incidentally, Tyga's "Taste" is egregiously missing from the chart despite being top 20 on Spotify. After some promotion on The Voice, Conrad Sewell returns to the chart for the first time in 2 years, incidentally, OneRepublic also debut with a song that shares its name with his sole #1 hit.

I mistakenly believed that Sheppard debuted at #1 with their first album "Bombs Away" in 2014, buoyed in no small part by their huge hit "Geronimo", but in fact it spent 2 weeks at #2. Luck is on their side, as though they haven't had quite as big a hit this time around (though "Coming Home" has done very well digitally), they score a #1 with their 2nd album. Kanye can't go back to back as "Kids See Ghosts" lands at #4, which is by far Kid Cudi's highest charting album. Lily Allen has her lowest ever charting album but still maintains a streak of 4 top 10 albums. There'll be a fair bit going on next week as we've got all manner of mid-week action with Beyonce & Jay Z dropping a collaborative album (currently #1 on iTunes), Calum Scott performing both of his hits on The Voice (he was holding the top 2 spots briefly), and of course the passing of XXXTENTACION, which I'm very curious about because several of his high performing songs right now have been omitted from the chart in the past.

Coming Home peaking at #22 is probably the biggest chart injustice so far this year tbh, it was HUGE a few months ago. Constantly on the radio wink.gif and was doing really well in sales for a while too

The Sheppard song?

"Youngblood" really is huge isn't it ohmy.gif Kudos to them for pushing through in the streaming era. It does sound better and better on each listen, and I definitely think it's a stronger single than "Want You Back" which wasn't bad either.

Post Malone seems to be king of staying at number 2 - what's that, 6 weeks consecutively now for "Better Now"? "Psycho" managed 8 I think before grabbing the number 1 spot so all is not lost for him...

Fantastic for Sheppard, not as great as Bombs Away but a very solid second album. I absolutely adore them. Shame they haven’t managed much singles success this time around.

Familiar territory, "Youngblood" racks up a 5th week at #1, making it the 4th longest running Australian #1 single of the decade. It'll tie for 3rd next week too because the competition still isn't there. Maroon 5 move up to #2 with "Girls Like You", giving them their 4th #2 peak to date, following "Moves Like Jagger", "Payphone" and "One More Night". A fluke of a week where "2002" is #12 on digital sales & #8 on streaming somehow aligns to being #4, making it Anne-Marie's highest charting lead artist single. Of course the big noteworthy news this week is that XXXTENTACION was murdered mid-week, and even with just a few days to boost it up, it pushes "SAD!" 1 spot higher than its old peak to #8. With more of an influence on a full week, it may climb again next week. The only other track he has on the chart this week is "changes" which also scores a new peak, because you guessed it, even dying is not enough to get ARIA to track your music. For reference, "Jocelyn Flores" was top 10 on the weekly Spotify chart, and in fact has been in the top 100 on Spotify's weekly chart every week since it was released, it's probably double platinum by now but it's still not been seen on the chart. You would be forgiven for thinking that all of this week's top 50 debuts were drawn out of a hat as combinations of two popular artists. I will note that I believe BLACKPINK are the first Korean girl group to ever chart in Australia this week, and meanwhile last year's Voice finale was big enough to allow both the winner and runner up top 50 berths, this year's winner Sam Perry scrapes the top 80. At least the ads pay well I imagine.

For the album chart we have a double up. 5 Seconds Of Summer easily debut at the top with "Youngblood" which I somehow forgot to mention at the bottom of my last commentary. This is the first time an Australian artist has held both top spots simultaneously since Gotye did it in 2011. If you're curious of the last time it's been done with both the single & album having the same title, I believe you have to go bad to Delta Goodrem's "Innocent Eyes" double up in mid-2003. XXXTENTACION also has his album "?" back into the top 10, though not quite at a new peak. I also note that "17" should possibly be top 10, but when it debuted, ARIA didn't assign its streaming points to it, and never have since. The second highest debut of the week is for The Carters, who may seem foreign away from the #1 spot, but Beyonce has only hit #1 twice (with "Beyonce" and "Lemonade") and Jay Z has actually never had a #1 album in this country. Making an upswing is Christina Aguilera, whose last album "Lotus" only reached #19. "Liberation" is her 6th top 10 album. Next week, since 5 Seconds Of Summer have never done well with 2nd weeks, we'll likely have a new #1 album, and I suspect it will be for Panic! At The Disco.

The weeks just keep accumulating for 5 Seconds Of Summer and "Youngblood". With 6 weeks at #1, it's now the equal 3rd longest Australian #1 of the decade, and it looks pretty safe to take that outright next week. As XXXTENTACION's death last week was late in the tracking week, his material increases again this week. "SAD!" notably reaches the top 5, but also important to note is that ARIA has finally decided that "Jocelyn Flores" is a song that exists and is popular, despite having already accumulated roughly as many streams as there are people in this country, so it 'debuts' in the top 10. I'd like to say that this is a watershed moment for accuracy, but every other XXXTENTACION song that has been getting traction, apart from "changes" is still missing from the chart. So by artificials means we have to see "Shape Of You" back in the top 50. Also to note high up on the chart is Billie Eilish shooting straight into the top 5 after being stuck outside the top 10 for a few weeks with "lovely". I believe that this makes her the first person born in the 21st century to score a top 10 hit, all in spite of the fact that radio still isn't really playing it. She's not the only artist reaching new top 10 heights this week though, as Demi Lovato scores her highest charting single to date with "Solo" reaching #7. She previously hit #8 with her only other top 10 single "Sorry Not Sorry" last year. For Clean Bandit, it's their 4th top 10 hit. Also to note this week, Panic! At The Disco reach the top 50 with "High Hopes", they have not had a top 50 hit since "The Ballad Of Mona Lisa" in 2011.

And speaking of Panic! At The Disco, they're #1 on the album chart this week. This is their 2nd #1 album following "Pretty. Odd" in 2008, from that brief period when there was not a '!' in their name. In due process they fend off XXXTENTACION whose "?" climbs to a new peak of #2. Despite "Jocelyn Flores" now appearing on the chart, his previous album "17" is still nowhere to be seen on the chart because of missing streaming data. That may well be for the best as it allows me to say that Tasmania's finest, Luca Brasi manage to score a top 10 debut, and Nine Inch Nails in fact debut at number nine. This is their 5th top 10 album. Next week we'll have the battle of Drake & Florence + The Machine which will likely net Drake his 2nd #1 album, while The Rubens will be gunning for a top 5 debut for their 3rd album, and P!nk may well shoot up because she's just started another one of her vintage 3490394 show Australian tours.

How weird/annoying that Peking Duk are charting with an EP in the singles chart when it's only one song on the EP that is doing anything anywhere.

Which of the tracks is it? I’m assuming it’s "Fire"?

Well Distant Arizona is getting about 30K streams a week on Spotify so it can't hurt to aid the margins just that little bit.

(also I get to pretend that Cloud Control have a top 20 single magic.gif )

5 Seconds Of Summer hit their 7th week at #1, an exact amount that has not been reached by an Australian artist since John Farnham & Kylie Minogue in the late '80s. They reside behind Gotye's 8 weeks, Justice Crew's 9 weeks and Daddy Cool's 10 weeks from here. They do look safe to get an 8th week at #1, but it will get tricky from here, as Drake's "In My Feelings" is showing incredible form in streaming and pretty solid digital sales as well. Oh did you know Drake put out a new album last week? Well it's all over this week's chart, with 22 of the 25 tracks featured in the top 100. Only missing are "Survival", "Elevate" and "Sandra's Rose" which have been intentionally excluded, though I couldn't tell you what makes the latter two not count as proper songs, particularly as they're among the more popular on the album and would otherwise be in the top 50 this week. Then again, as "ocean eyes" and "Taste" show us week after week, being big enough to be in the top 50 is not grounds to be let on the chart automatically. Anyhow, the most popular of Drake's entries are "Don't Matter To Me" and "Nonstop" which both land in the top 5. At #3, this is the highest Michael Jackson has ever charted on the singles chart since "Thriller"'s #3 re-entry in 2009. If you exclude that, you have to go back to #2 peaking "Scream" in 1995. Drake also holds 4 of the top 10 as "God's Plan" and "Nice For What" both return there. If you're a fan of very dumb trivia like me, you'll be fascinated to know that between JAY-Z's verse on "Talk Up", and Skepta's verse on "Praise The Lord (Da Shine)", we have two different rappers being referenced with the same nickname, "X" in two different songs in the top 50 at the moment. In non-Drake news, Dean Lewis has returned to the chart, and for the first time ever, he has a song hit the top 50 without first dropping out of the top 100 and re-entering straight at #50. Anyway, he has turned the chorus of "Dry Your Eyes" by The Streets into a full song, and upset at least 2 iTunes reviewers because he said a naughty word. Speaking of saying a naughty word, another of only 3 non-Drake debuts this week is from The Rubens who do the same thing at the end of "Never Ever". I just want to note that the anonymous sounding Sarah who features on the song is actually far from it, as she's also the featured vocalist of Peking Duk's "Fire", and a few years back, L D R U's top 20 hit "Keeping Score". She also co-wrote "Stay" and "The Middle" with Zedd, so she's been getting around in these past few years.

In Drake news again, he's #1 this week just on the album chart. "Scorpion" follows "Views" and becomes his 2nd ever #1 album in Australia. Something that is worth noting about it which I neglected to mention last month is that in doing this, Drake becomes only the 3rd ever solo rapper to score more than 1 #1 album. Prior to him we've only seen it done by Eminem and Kanye West, the latter of which only accomplishing this with "ye" this year, so Drake is the first non-US rapper to do so. Because of this, Florence + The Machine miss out on scoring a 3rd consecutive album with "High As Hope", though it still gets 1 place higher than "Lungs" ever did so it's not their lowest charter. Three years fresh from proving that democracy is a questionable practice, The Rubens return with their 3rd album, and it keeps up their general standard of making the top 3, though 1 short of their last album's #2 peak. Finishing this pack of debuts at the top is Gorillaz, who match the #4 peak of last year's "Humanz". 2010's "Plastic Beach" is their sole chart topper. Lower down in the top 10, we've got Guns N' Roses who are unlucky not to see Ed Sheeran's latest album hit an all time low, and also can only match the original #7 peak set by "Appetite For Destruction" 30 years ago, following the release of a super deluxe edition. Bullet For My Valentine also score a 5th top 10 album, though a bit of a way down for them considering 2015's "Venom" was a #1 peaker for them. Next week looks a bit quiet so Drake could hold the top spot for a 2nd week, while local singer Odette will aim for the top 10 with her debut album.

I respect difference of opinion though thoroughly disagree tongue.gif I saw Kendrick at his first Australian show this week and it absolutely went off.

What I find impressive is that Hilltop Hoods have scored a top 10 hit from every album since State Of The Art. They just need to replicate 1955's enormous streaming success though I don't see that happening straight away.

People who are not fans of seeing over a dozen Drake tracks on the chart get what they really want, as there are no debuts on the entire chart, something that I don't think I've ever seen happen outside of the first few weeks of January in my 10+ years of following the ARIA Charts. Anyway, 5 Seconds Of Summer spend an 8th and likely final week at #1 with "Youngblood", awaiting to be taken over by Drake whose "In My Feelings" is currently on pace to break "God's Plan"'s record for Spotify plays in a week, likely going over 3 million for this week. It's one of 4 songs to crack the top 10 this week. The rest of them are from artists who have never done it before, notably Dean Lewis who had one of the biggest Australian hits of recent years. His new single "Be Alright" is aided by the fact that iTunes let the song stay at the very top of Hot Tracks for 2 weeks in a row which was surely not deliberate, though it may well manage to maintain this height as streaming continues to climb. Speaking of people having a whinge about an ex, Juice WRLD's "Lucid Dreams" climbs to #8, becoming the 2nd top 10 hit that samples Sting's "Shape Of My Heart", after Craig David's "Rise & Fall". And then strangely despite not super strong streaming, Dennis Lloyd's "Nevermind" manages to sneak in at #10 as well. All the Drake songs that dropped out of the top 50 this week are essentially replaced by songs with an average time spent on the chart of about 50 weeks, but there was one non-Drake dropout from the top 50 ("The Middle") and conveniently, one non-returning track into the top 50, with Ella Mai's "Boo'd Up" no doubt aided by its remix.

Drake has had 6 albums reach the top 4 on the album chart, but the first 5 of those came out before streaming was introduced to the album chart, and thus none of them ever spent a 2nd week in the top 4. "Scorpion" does one better and holds the top spot for a second week. Florence + The Machine actually narrowly had the highest selling album for a 2nd week in a row. It's a pretty light week for new entries though so plenty of perennial chart-hoggers inch back some more ranks. P!nk's tour pays further dividends as she gets to the more populated parts of the country and "Beautiful Trauma" is back in the top 10, while incidentally the highest debut this week is a tour edition album from Celine Dion, which is her 9th album to reach the top 10. We've also got Australian artists making their chart debuts in Odette & Didirri, while Years & Years haven't managed to impact the single chart at all over here, and fall a fair bit short of their debut's #5 peak. Next week we'll see if Drake's streaming strength is enough to overcome Amy Shark's first full length album, or else she'll peak at #2 for the 2nd time with a release that contains "Adore".

For the 3rd time this year, Drake scores a #1 single, his 4th overall with "In My Feelings". It does take 3 weeks to get there, which is a bit slower than "God's Plan" & "Nice For What" who got there in 2 weeks. "In My Feelings" has over 3.5 million streams this week which I do believe is a new record. In contrast to last week's rather busy top 10, there's only one new track in this week, with Ariana Grande scoring a 2nd top 10 hit for the year with "God is a woman". This is her 7th top 10 hit, all bar "Focus" having also hit the top 5. Childish Gambino manages to maintain a top 50 presence as "Summertime Magic" debuts at the same time "This Is America" drops out, while Khalid has no need to worry about that as "Eastside" just adds to his set of now 5 songs currently in the top 50. "Shape Of You" inherits "Thinking Out Loud"'s trait of artificially gaining many top 100 weeks due to songs being excluded from the chart. Now he's at #50 while Tyga is inexplicably missing. Lower down, George Ezra gets his 3rd ever singles chart entry, and first for the year with "Shotgun" ("Paradise" peaked at roughly #120).

With one of the biggest opening figures of the year, Amy Shark's debut album goes straight in at #1. She did reach #2 with an EP last year, and in Vance Joy fashion, she's re-included the 2 year old breakout single on this album as well. Also debuting strongly is the new Mamma Mia soundtrack, almost 10 years exactly since the original soundtrack also debuted at #4. That soundtrack climbed to the top the week after so we'll have to see if this one can repeat that. Given that it's #1 on iTunes, this is certainly a possibility. Local country act Adam Brand has a 20 year anniversary compilation and scores his 4th top 10 album to date, and 2nd this year.

Drake's 4th #1 single becomes his 4th multi-week #1 as "In My Feelings" gets a 2nd week at the top. He's taken a bit of a hit thanks to that iTunes muck up earlier in the week which is stopping him from getting back to #1 there, but with a colossal streaming lead it'll be a while before anything can challenge him. Juice WRLD & Dennis Lloyd both return to the top 10 but new this week is Conrad Sewell's "Healing Hands" which like his entire career, is getting big boost from TV spots. It follows "Firestone" and "Start Again" as his 3rd top 10 hit. Making a big move into the top 50 is The Rubens who score their 2nd top 50 hit with "Never Ever". Bebe Rexha's 9th top 50 hit "I'm A Mess" is also her first ever hit with no other artists credited on the track. It would seem that Spotify's slow updating has affected the new entries this week as they're all in the bottom half of the top 50.

If you thought the singles chart was uneventful this week, the album chart goes one further as there's only one new entry this week and it's down at #40 from the always excellent The Internet. There is a new #1 though with the 2nd Mamma Mia album doing just like the first one (which is back this week) did, debuting at #4 and climbing to #1 the next week. With P!nk's increasingly fractional Greatest Hits climbing into the top 10 this week, only XXXTENTACION's "?" in the top 10 has not hit #1. Kanye West's physical album release also boosts his album up though slightly too high for me to make a justifiable Fetty Wap reference. We should have an actual fresh debut high up next week as Golden Features releases his debut album, and there should be boosts for Keith Urban & Katy Perry who have been interviewed on TV recently.

14 weeks in the top 50: 43-49-46-35-29-23-24-19-19-19-20-10-13-10 so far.

Dircadirca might be able to shed a light on its run pre-top 50??

The WI column in my post includes #51-#100 weeks so that is in fact its whole chart run! But you're right to be suspicious, it's another one of those songs that didn't instantly get allowed onto the ARIA Chart, so it probably should have charted in the bottom 50 for another 2-3 weeks before it did. Not the most egregious case though, Tyga's "Taste" has been top 10 on Spotify for a solid month now and still hasn't charted :')
