BuzzJack Music Forum _ UK Charts _ Top 100 Best Selling Albums Of The Decade.........So Far!

Posted by: Gezza 3rd January 2019, 07:58 PM

Another year done and it's time to unveil the new Top 100 for the decade over the next 12 days and for the last time..........

The charts covered here are 16.01.10- 03.01.19 and the format will be:

POSITION, TITLE, ARTIST, MOVEMENT THROUGH THE DECADE, SALES, TOTAL SALES (T/S) IF RELEASED PRE 2010.

Thanks to Youtube, MW, Vidcapper, and some other sources!

Posted by: Gezza 3rd January 2019, 08:01 PM

We'll start tomorrow but here's what we've lost from last year!

So we have just 4 "new" albums!

Posted by: Christmasteve201 3rd January 2019, 10:48 PM

Love this countdown!!

Not surprising the chart is heavily represented by the 2010-15 era, only 4 NEs!!

Posted by: gavindeejay 3rd January 2019, 11:33 PM

Glad to see the back of Subo but Biffy leaving the Top 100 makes me sad cry.gif

Posted by: T Boy 4th January 2019, 01:05 PM

I love this, looking forward to it!

Shame to lose Paloma there.

100. HOME- Rudimental (78-83-89-95-100) 640,200
99. TURN IT UP- Pixie Lott (17-33-41-53-62-73-84-92-99) 649,600 (T/S 897,900)
98. TOGETHER- Alfie Boe & Michael Ball (93-98) 653,500
97. SEASONS OF MY SOUL- Rumer (36-36-43-54-61-71-82-90-97) 657,300
96. GREATEST HITS- Westlife (50-51-65-73-90-93-99-96) 660,300

Westlife are the real winners here with news of their reformation spurring nostalgia over their back catalogue it would appear. Few expected the bottom two to cling on for a further year but that’s the result of album sales continuing to dive!

Posted by: Gezza 4th January 2019, 05:41 PM

95. FOUR- One Direction (92-76-83-89-95) 660,800
94. RED- Taylor Swift (80-81-88-90-94-94) 668,300
93. THE THRILL OF IT ALL- Sam Smith (NEW) 672,900
92. HEAVEN- Rebecca Ferguson (60-39-48-59-67-77-86-92) 687,800
91. STAYING AT TAMARA’S- George Ezra (NEW) 691,300

Four new albums join the best selling list and two of them are here. Sam Smith sold the vast majority last year but had a nice top up of over 170,000 to lift his second album into the top 100 joining his debut set. George Ezra also places his second album in the big sellers though he does it in just 6 months- who says you can’t still shift albums. Meanwhile One Direction are just now one of two acts to have four albums on this rundown!

Posted by: davidas 4th January 2019, 05:56 PM

Yay love this countdown!

Posted by: Jordan Lee 4th January 2019, 06:14 PM

Sad to see Palomas debut drop out her second and third albums should stlll both be on here smile.gif

Intrigued to see where Gaga is this time around and how high TGS can get.

Posted by: Crazy Chris 4th January 2019, 06:14 PM

Like this too.

Posted by: Christmasteve201 4th January 2019, 09:00 PM

Wonder if Staying at Tamaras can break the top 40 in next years chart? Also the Westlife GHs should continue to rise next year too!

Posted by: GTH 4th January 2019, 09:12 PM

I always look forward to this thread coming out.

Hadn't realised the Westlife comeback announcement even had an impact this year. Nice to see a surprise climber (at least for me).

Shame to see Biffy and Paloma fall out the top 100, though not surprised about Susan Boyle.

Posted by: JCM20 4th January 2019, 10:35 PM

I always look forward to this list Gezza!

675K for Sam Smith's album 2 is a bit of a let down compared to his debut even with the market shrinking

always amazed that Pixie Lot managed a 3x Platinum album, and Rebeca Ferguson's Heaven did very well too

It is a big downturn but still far better than many other artist second album slumps. Emeli Sande for example.

90. A DECADE IN THE SUN- THE BEST OF- The Stereophonics (85-93-91-96-91-90) 694,700 (T/S 1,432,700
89. GHOST STORIES- Coldplay (77-77-79-85-89) 695,200
88. IF YOU WAIT- London Grammar (85-85-87-88-88) 699,200
87. OUTTA THIS WORLD- JLS (18-28-37-47-56-63-74-83-87) 701,400
86. NO MORE IDOLS- Chase & Status (43-44-49-58-64-75-82-86) 706,800

Not much happening in this section, Stereophonics prove the strength of their back catalogue as they move up a notch, and London Grammar prove a consistent seller pinning down the No 88 spot for a second year.

Posted by: Gezza 5th January 2019, 02:56 PM

85. THE MARSHALL MATHERS LP 2- Eminem (91-74-82-85-87-85) 714,500
84. GREATEST HITS- Queen (NEW) 720,000 (T/S 5,238,000)
83. CAUSTIC LOVE- Paolo Nutini (75-68-72-80-83) 722,300
82. ONLY BY THE NIGHT- Kings Of Leon (31-44-50-60-66-78-78-84-82) 728,200 (T/S 2,988,400)
81. FALL TO GRACE- Paloma Faith (62-58-63-62-68-78-81) 730,900

Another new entry- for an album almost 40 years old! Yes Queen are back with their “Greatest Hits” album from 1981, note my total doesn’t include any sales from the triple collection of the GH sets. Anyway consistency is yet again the factor with the album being in the top 100 every week since December 2016 (110 weeks in total)! KOL’s “Only By The Night” will sell its 3 millionth copy sometime in 2019 and rises once again! and Eminem proves he can continue to shift old albums.

Be intrigued to see how high Get weird and Glory days have climbed

Posted by: Christmasteve201 6th January 2019, 12:33 AM

Wonderful to see the steadiness from Queen and Stereophonics GHs!

Posted by: Bjork 6th January 2019, 07:04 AM

sign of the times, but I don't own any from that list so far, although I've streams some of those many times
London Grammar, Nutini, Paloma, Chase & Status, Rumer

Posted by: Gezza 6th January 2019, 11:15 AM

80. UNAPOLOGETIC- Rihanna (58-46-55-61-70-77-80) 739,200
79. 4- Beyonce (48-45-56-61-69-73-81-79) 749,200
78. SINCE I SAW YOU LAST- Gary Barlow (76-52-60-64-73-78) 750,900
77. SWINGS BOTH WAYS- Robbie Williams (52-50-58-63-71-77) 757,700
76. IN AND OUT OF CONSCIOUSNESS- GREATEST HITS 1990-2010- Robbie Williams (14-29-36-43-51-57-65-72-76) 759,900

Someone has been selling under the radar haven’t they Beyonce! She’s up a couple of slots in between a host of Take That solo career albums, the appearance on “X Factor” as a judge by Robbie seems not to have done his album sales that much good!

Posted by: Gezza 6th January 2019, 11:22 AM

75. EVERY KINGDOM- Ben Howard (97-61-64-65-71-75-75) 771,400
74. LADY KILLER- Cee-Lo Green (23-28-37-45-54-59-69-74) 780,400
73. JAKE BUGG- Jake Bugg (57-53-59-62-68-73) 786,200
72. A PERFECT CONTRADICTION- Paloma Faith (82-56-58-67-72) 789,400
71. GET WEIRD- Little Mix (76-70-71) 807,100

Not much to see here either with all 5 albums moving down albeit marginally for Little Mix. They at least sell an 800,000th copy of “Get Weird”, Ben Howard maintains 75th position which I suppose is an achievement of kinds.

Posted by: Bjork 6th January 2019, 11:29 AM

amazing that Ben Howard's album sold so much and is there with all those big names
one of the best albums in the history of music imo so totally deserved

Posted by: Bjork 6th January 2019, 11:31 AM

was thinking that Paloma has had 4 big selling albums, which is pretty unusual for UK females
Adele of course has 3 but cannot think of any other UK female being so consistent in the last 30 years
mostly they have 1 or 2 albums (Dido, Emeli Sande, Lisa Stanfield, Beverly Craven, Dina Carroll, Duffy, Leona)

Posted by: Cqmerqn 6th January 2019, 11:37 AM

Little Mix? Unless you mean solo

Posted by: Bjork 6th January 2019, 11:42 AM

Yes I meant solo

Posted by: Bjork 6th January 2019, 11:52 AM

But Little Mix didn't do much with their first 2 albums, both platinum x 1, I meant really big sellers
Little Mix have had just 2 big seller albums

Posted by: Jamie Barkley 6th January 2019, 12:45 PM

All these years later and Get Weird still stands out to me as a really odd title for that album

Posted by: Jordan Lee 6th January 2019, 12:51 PM

Get Weird is their best album in my opinion heart.gif

Nice to see Paloma still having two albums on the list as well.

Posted by: Christmasteve201 6th January 2019, 12:58 PM

I love how Gary Barlow's album and both of those Robbie albums have been back-to-back-to-back on this countdown for the last three years.

Posted by: Gezza 7th January 2019, 04:54 PM

70. NUMBER ONES- Michael Jackson (xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-100-95-79-70) 811,100 (T/S 2,640,100)
69. MY WORLD- Justin Bieber (12-22-29-40-47-52-56-64-69) 814,600
68. SCIENCE AND FAITH- The Script (19-27-30-39-44-50-54-63-68) 815,400
67. TO BE LOVED- Michael Buble (50-48-51-55-61-67) 829,200
66. OLLY MURS- Olly Murs (20-24-27-32-40-46-51-59-66) 835,800

Michael Jackson continues to improve lifting 9 places year on year though he isn’t the biggest climber this year. The first of Olly Murs 4 albums on the rundown proving what a big seller he was historically.

Posted by: Gezza 7th January 2019, 05:00 PM

65. CEREMONIALS- Florence + The Machine (54-38-44-54-55-57-65-65) 839,000
64. CHAOS AND THE CALM- James Bay (98-61-62-64) 842,500
63. NOEL GALLAGHER’S HIGH FLYING BIRDS- Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds (27-32-38-46-48-52-60-63) 857,600
62. LIGHTS- Ellie Goulding (24-25-35-41-42-47-50-54-62) 863,500
61. NEVER BEEN BETTER- Olly Murs (53-53-58-61) 865,300

More Murs! His second album, like his first, is on its way down however, the joint largest faller in however Ellie Goulding who drifts 8 places from last year, none of these will probably sell a million copies by the close of 2019!

Posted by: BigMixer 7th January 2019, 05:04 PM

Love this countdown.

Hoping Born This Way ends up in the top 50.

Posted by: Christmasteve201 7th January 2019, 10:08 PM

Good to see Michael Jackson on an upward trajectory!

Chaos and the Calm probably sold a bit this year to keep it steady!!

Posted by: Riser 8th January 2019, 03:03 AM

Isn't that Olly Murs album from 2014? I'd think it would have four years in its chart run here (2015-2018).

Olly usually releases in november though so its probably likely he hadnt sold enough in 2014 by the time the chart had been complied also didnt a lot of it sales come from the reissue?

Posted by: Gezza 8th January 2019, 06:49 AM

Yes he didn't chart on the end of 2014 countdown.

Posted by: Bjork 8th January 2019, 06:51 AM

Never been better is his 4th album not his 2nd

Posted by: Gezza 8th January 2019, 09:46 AM

I meant his second Album on this rundown not his personal second Album If that makes sense.

Posted by: Bjork 8th January 2019, 11:12 AM

Rihanna's Unapologetic had 2 great singles: Diamonds and Stay, wish it had sold more

Posted by: Gezza 8th January 2019, 05:55 PM

60. DISC-OVERY- Tinie Tempah (29-21-26-33-39-45-49-52-60) 880,900
59. CURTAIN CALL: THE GREATEST HITS- Eminem (xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-76-59) 888,500 (T/S 2,174,500)
58. LIONESS: HIDDEN TREASURES- Amy Winehouse (31-25-31-37-43-48-51-58) 888,900
57. NOTHING BUT THE BEAT- David Guetta (90-46-36-41-44-47-49-57) 897,900
56. THE TRUTH ABOUT LOVE- P!nk (63-34-36-42-45-48-56) 907,500

Tinie Tempah, David Guetta, and Pink repeat Ellie Goulding’s 8 place fall as the biggest losers of the last 12 months but Eminem is definitely a winner almost keeping pace with Abba and Bob Marley as they race up this chart.

Posted by: Gezza 8th January 2019, 06:05 PM

55. ELEMENT OF FREEDOM- Alicia Keys (7-17-24-28-33-41-44-47-55) 907,700 (T/S 1,046,200)
54. GOLD- GREATEST HITS- Abba (xx-xx-xx-98-96-89-80-74-54) 907,900 (T/S 5,763,100)
53. LEGEND- Bob Marley & The Wailers (xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-81-66-53) 909,300 (T/S 4,465,300)
52. ULTIMATE COLLECTION- Whitney Houston (xx-xx-81-97-76-75-67-56-52) 918,000 (T/S 1,628,600)
51. MIDNIGHT MEMORIES- One Direction (45-34-38-43-45-51) 922,200

Abba become this year’s biggest climber inside the top 100 thanks to the film “Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again” which pushed it back into the top 10 for the first time in 10 years, it’s currently spent 78 straight weeks in the top 100 and would be the best selling album of all time where it not for the double accounting of the Queen album. Nothing, it seems, can stop Bob Marley’s “Legend” from continually improving here year on year either, it makes Abba and Queen look like new comers as it has now posted 159 straight weeks in the top 100 or three years! Whitney also continues to sell well.

Streaming really is helping Greatest Hits albums.

Shame to see Pink fall there. I just got that album on vinyl and I’m loving it all over again.

Posted by: Rafael x 8th January 2019, 07:49 PM

Nothing but the Beat went 3xP this month, so good! So Calvin is at 900k+ mark already... mess

Midnight Memories still fighting to hit 1 million too, 12k sold since last January, they deserve it!!!

Abba Gold not far off 6 million now.

Abba Gold and Legend should both pass a million for the decade then (incl. streaming obvs.) There can't be many albums that have sold over 1m in multiple decades.

The OCC have way lower estimates for Legend than you do Gezza

Indeed they do. It is to do with pre 1994 sales and downgrading the 94-96 period which they vary between at will. The OCC also don't have access to sales figures pre 1994 so I'm not sure where they get figures from but I use the end of year Gallup figures so should be relatively accurate. There is no way that "Legend" for example can have sold what the OCC have it on.

50. BACK TO BLACK- Amy Winehouse (xx-55-60-78-80-74-60-55-50) 923,000 (T/S 3,995,000)
49. GREATEST HITS- Foo Fighters (71-66-68-70-70-66-69-57-49) 926,400 (T/S 1,242,400)
48. BAD BLOOD- Bastille (79-49-49-46-46-48) 942,500
47. COME AROUND SUNDOWN- Kings Of Leon (11-15-21-25-30-35-41-44-47) 950,900
46. 18 MONTHS- Calvin Harris (89-42-38-40-42-43-46) 974,300

Completing the non millionaire albums we see continuing good fortune for Amy Winehouse and Foo Fighters who prove that slow and steady wins the day, both are on course for a million before the end of 2019. So is Calvin Harris though the other two may struggle

Posted by: Gezza 9th January 2019, 06:29 PM

45. TIME FLIES 1994-2009- Oasis (38-62-67-77-72-72-66-53-45) 1,005,400
44. GLORY DAYS- Little Mix (50-44) 1,027,200
43. BORN THIS WAY- Lady Gaga (18-18-22-25-28-35-39-43) 1,035,300
42. RECOVERY- Eminem (9-16-22-26-32-34-38-41-42) 1,036,600
41. GREATEST HITS...SO FAR- P!nk (32-35-34-35-35-36-40-42-41) 1,042,000

We welcome Oasis, Little Mix, Eminem and Pink to the millionaires club in 2018 with their respective albums, for Little Mix it also became a record breaker back in March when it spent a record 69th week in the top 40, something no other girl band had managed.

I think Pink will go top 40 again with the GH when this list is done again next year as her tours coming in the summer and I have a strong feeling she’s doing Glastonbury.

It always seems to be in the top 100 and at the minute or very recently it was reduced on iTunes.

I kinda feel the same though regarding the reasons why it’s always charting though.

40. TAKE ME HOME- One Direction (42-24-28-30-34-37-40) 1,042,800
39. UNORTHODOX JUKEBOX- Bruno Mars (30-29-32-36-38-39) 1,055,500
38. SUNNY SIDE UP- Paolo Nutini (6-14-20-23-24-27-32-35-38) 1,060,400 (T/S 1,870,900)
37. TALK THAT TALK- Rihanna (26-17-20-23-26-31-34-37) 1,063,000
36. IN CASE YOU DIDN’T KNOW- Olly Murs (34-19-18-21-24-27-30-36) 1,123,800

Everything falls here nothing faster than Olly Murs who of course has a new GH out so his back catalogue may suffer.

Well done to Jess Glynne and Arctic Monkeys who continue to move up buoyed by successful new albums out in 2018. We get to One Direction’s best selling album but we have new lows for both Lana Del Ray and Bon Jovi who still put in a decent show all the same

It always seems to be in the top 100 and at the minute or very recently it was reduced on iTunes.

I kinda feel the same though regarding the reasons why it’s always charting though.

It's a classic album and probably the only reggae album you need really.

30. IF I CAN DREAM- Elvis Presley (37-26-27-30) 1,172,600
29. HUMAN- Rag’n’Bone Man (40-29) 1,175,400
28. BABEL- Mumford & Sons (47-21-22-25-24-28-28) 1,185,500

26. HALCYON- Ellie Goulding (51-26-22-22-24-26) 1,219,000

Rag’N’Bone man may only by human but he rises 11 spots, Coldplay also lift above Mumford & Sons and Elvis after a good year spent in the top 200 mostly.

21. WANTED ON VOYAGE- George Ezra (57-21-21-22-21) 1,345,300

“1989” tracked “Purpose” for most of the year helped by a world tour to support it. Ezra’s first album continued to accrue the sales and rises to No 21- perhaps top 20 for the decade?

Mad when you look at how big Jessie was for her debut and now struggles to impact at all. Don’t think the Christmas album even went top 100 (correct me if I am wrong).

Lungs should go 1.8 million this year overall, so 6 x platinum! cheer.gif

It is indeed re Jessie.

I loved her back in her debut era and even now I can’t deny that Who You Are is a fantastic album.

She really lost it for me from album 2 onwards and her personality soon become grating too.

Adore Lungs too another amazing debut album! I thought it may have sold more in its debut year I’m guessing You Got The Love really helped push sales followed by BRITS? I remember it going to number one like six month after release as it was released the same week MJ died?

Yup, that's precisely what happened!

Loads of acts are one album wonders - and they are lucky to have that, it's not a bad thing.

I remember, back in the day, Delta Goodrem was equalling and gonna be bigger than Kyiie, Holly Valance was comparable to Kylie in Aus......

They need to embrace the one album - it will give them enough of an income and career for life!

Posted by: 777666jason 11th January 2019, 10:15 PM

Yeah poor Jessie her debut so successful (would of been number 1 if not for a juggernaut) and her last album not even making the chart, although tbh she got more floppy with each release (shame as there are a few hidden jams on alive and sweet talker)

It’s obviously about that high new entry from the Greatest Showman film which has now sold over 1.6 million in its way to the 14th biggest album of the decade. It spent the whole of 2018 in the top 5 with 24 of those weeks at No 1 becoming the first album since “The Sound Of Music” did the same over 50 years ago. “The Fame” sells its 3 millionth copy and we encounter Adele’s “flop” album!

Well fortunately I have access to some extra info which helps keep them on track but that isn't for every album so I consider profile of the act, if they're touring, have a new album out, promo etc.

10. LOUD- RIHANNA (4-3-3-5-5-9-9-10-10) 2,029,600

PEAK POSITION: 1
WKS ON CHART: 111
PERFORMANCE IN 2018: DID NOT CHART

Debuting at No 2 behind Take That it took “Loud” seven weeks to top the charts but once it got into its stride the album spent its first 24 weeks in the top 10. By the end of December 2010 Rihanna had three singles in the top 10, quite an achievement, whilst this was flying off the shelf, it should reach 2 million during 2018. She did have the help of David Guetta, Drake, Ne-Yo, Timbaland, and Nicki Minaj to help on the album, pretty much a who’s who of pop in 2010.

09. PROGRESS- TAKE THAT (1-2-2-2-2-4-5-7-9) 2,391,200

PEAK POSITION: 1
WKS ON CHART: 59
PERFORMANCE IN 2018: DID NOT CHART

Considerable press attention focused on Robbie’s return to the Take That fold back in 2010 and sure enough “Progress” sold a mighty 518k in its first week (still the 3rd highest ever 7 day sale) and 1.8 million in its first 7 weeks. Sales cooled quickly however though a deluxe version issued in June 2011 saw the set return to the top spot, it marks the final appearance for both Robbie and Jason in the group- perhaps forever? In terms of 2018 it sold under 10k, by far the worst performing album in this top 10 for last year, and at just 59 weeks on the chart by far the lowest tally for any album in the top tier.

08. OUR VERSION OF EVENTS- EMELI SANDE (10-3-4-6-6-8-8) 2,404,400

PEAK POSITION: 1
WKS ON CHART: 136
PERFORMANCE IN 2018: DID NOT CHART

Time now for the best seller of 2012 and almost 2013 until it was overtaken in the dying days by One Direction. Can anyone forget the near saturation of Sande back in those days? It remains in the record books as the first debut album to spend its first 66 weeks in the top 10 and illustrates how popular she was. Her second album did considerably worse selling a mere 300k.

Posted by: Bjork 13th January 2019, 02:29 PM

poor Emeli sandé, from 2.4 million to this smile.gif and Hurts, the lead single from the 2nd album was decent
did Long live the angels reach 300K? Last figure I found was 225K

Emeli heart.gif

I actually preferred her second album as a whole but still loved her debut era.

Loud is still a fantastic album too. Not my personal favourite Rihanna album but easy to see why it’s her biggest seller. She was like absolutely everywhere here and everyone seemed to be wearing the T shirt of the album cover too tongue.gif

Always felt Progress sold a lot due to the Robbie effect & big comeback round Xmas with a very good lead single!

PEAK POSITION: 1
WKS ON CHART: 349
PERFORMANCE IN 2018: PRESENT FOR 48 WEEKS OF THE YEAR PEAKING AT No 26

Trailing in in 3rd place in the 2012 listings to the two Adele’s, Ed Sheeran’s debut album proper saw him catapulted into the “A List”ers of pop stars, no album on this list or indeed this decade has spent more weeks in the top 100 (349) than “+” and it’s also just one of five albums to spend a whole 52 wks in the top 10 (consecutive or otherwise). It even moved up another 2 places on this list after selling another 100k in 2018.

Transforming Smith into an international superstar his debut album spent 71 of its first 72 weeks in the top 10 producing 7 top 10 singles by the end and 3 chart toppers (in its deluxe version). Along the way it garnered him BRITS and Grammy’s.

PEAK POSITION: 1
WKS ON CHART: 71
PERFORMANCE IN 2018: 9 WEEKS ON CHART PEAKING AT NO 5

Well isn’t this just turning into the “All I Want For Christmas Is You” of the album charts? When it charts you just know that the big day is almost here, It returned to the top 10 for a SEVENTH Christmas in 2018 making No 5, only 2015 remains as the year it missed the top flight, surely it can’t go any higher but it will (probably) sell it’s 3 millionth copy this Christmas.

04. ÷- ED SHEERAN (5-4) 3,213,100

PEAK POSITION: 1
WKS ON CHART: 95
PERFORMANCE IN 2018: 52 WEEKS ON CHART PEAKING AT NO 1

Everyone knew this was going to be one of the big releases of 2017 but few foresaw just how big this would be. 19 weeks at No 1 in 7 stints (a chart record) it gave Sheeran the best selling single and album of the year, the biggest weekly sale for a male soloist ever (672,000) and saw him place all 16 album tracks in the top 20 the week of release including 9 in the top 10- the most top 10 hits from a studio album ever. It caused the OCC to re-write chart rules to ensure that the situation never replicated again so it is one of the few albums in chart history to cause such a re-write of the rules as a direct result of its performance. It spent a mighty 76 weeks in the top 10 from debut- a record this century and sold another ½ a million in 2018.

PEAK POSITION: 1
WKS ON CHART: 236
PERFORMANCE IN 2018: PRESENT AND CORRECT ALL YEAR PEAKING AT NO 10.

And so what happened to Emeli Sande in 2012/13 happened to Sheeran in 14/15, the clear winner in sales terms in the first year and on course to become the best seller again in the second year until beaten at the last minute. “x” consolidated Sheeran’s place in pop and set the benchmark by which his future albums would be measured, it remains on the chart with all those 236 weeks having been accumulated from its debut back in 2014 with its first 74 weeks in the top 10- a record in the 2010’s until he broke it himself, “x” does however retain the title of most weeks in the top 5 (65 weeks) for the decade.

PEAK POSITION: 1
WKS ON CHART: 145
PERFORMANCE IN 2018: CHARTED FOR 44 WEEKS PEAKING AT NO 49

Naturally the top 2 belong to Adele, let’s have a quick recap of the feats of the album include the largest opening weekly sale of 800,000 which was followed by 4 weeks with over 350k registering 5 of the 21 biggest weekly sales of all time and becoming the fastest album to reach first the million mark (10 days) then the 2 million mark (29 days) and finally the 3 million mark (220 days). The final landmark coincided with her star turn at Glastonbury which saw the album return to No 1 and yet it’s still 1.5 million away from making it to the top here!

Posted by: Gezza 16th January 2019, 06:44 PM

01. 21- ADELE (1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1) 5,117,600

PEAK POSITION: 1
WKS ON CHART: 266
PERFORMANCE IN 2018: CHARTED FOR 2 WEEKS PEAKING AT NO 96

Still easily clear and untouchable, “21” is of course the best selling album of the decade so far and the fourth biggest album of all time selling its five millionth copy in 2016. It spent its first 72 weeks in the top 10 including 23 weeks at No 1 even stealing a cheeky week in the top 10 in 2016 after her Glastonbury stint. It launched her as an international superstar and sold 3.8 million in its first year on the charts becoming the best selling album in the UK for 2011 and then the second biggest seller of 2012- could anything brake her top 2 stranglehold by the end of the year?

So that's it - all over for another decade! In December we'll get the "official" list (Probably) and then in 2020 obviously the top 100 of the year will also be the top 100 for the decade so maybe see you again in 2021!

Thanks for contributing!

Think Divide will end up at 2 thanks to streams
He always has tracks on the Spotify top 200 and those count
While i never see Adele

Such a drab top 10.

Actually sad we won’t see this for 3 years.

Always my favourite thread!

Well done Gezza.

Thanks for putting this together Gezza, an enjoyable read as always. Very pleased that Adele's 21 comfortably is the decade's best seller (not least to save us from Ed Sheeran), and is indeed the 2nd biggest studio album of all-time!

One of those rare events when a song promoted on radio 2 and not radio 1 that makes no1!

Westlife's last #1 singles were not played by r1

Thanks Gezza!!! Crazy to think how many years you've done this thread, and sad that the decade's about to end already. Hopefully Adele will have another entry here in time for the official end of the decade biggrin.gif

77. SWINGS BOTH WAYS- Robbie Williams (52-50-58-63-71-77) 757,700
76. IN AND OUT OF CONSCIOUSNESS- GREATEST HITS 1990-2010- Robbie Williams (14-29-36-43-51-57-65-72-76) 759,900
09. PROGRESS- TAKE THAT (1-2-2-2-2-4-5-7-9) 2,391,200

Good evening, folks.
Please check these figures.

According to the recent MusicWeek edition, the figures by date are:
SWINGS BOTH WAYS - 746,279
IN AND OUT OF CONSCIOUSNESS - 736,279
PROGRESS - 2,394,457

No problems with Progress, there could be 3k adding during 2019.
Buth two other albums are less now than they were in January?
Where is a mistake?

Also after all I'm wondering how does exact another figures in the new MW review.

Posted by: Gezza 20th November 2019, 10:29 PM

The answer is simple I am using estimates where an album doesn't get an update for a long time or isn't charting. When I do get to see the actual sales I adjust the figures. Im still keeping a record to give us figures for the official decade end charts next month.
