BuzzJack Music Forum _ Movies and Theatre _ 'Beauty and the Beast' - Disney live-action remake

Posted by: THEO. 6th February 2015, 05:29 PM

A live-action remake of the 1991 Disney classic Beauty and the Beast has been confirmed (following last year's Maleficent) and Emma Watson confirmed last week that she will be playing the titular character, Belle (Beauty). There's no confirmation of who will be playing the Beast yet, but rumours are circulating of http://www.chipandco.com/disney-offers-ryan-gosling-role-beast-live-action-beauty-beast-remake-207045/ being cast.

I've not actually seen the original but I will try to before this is released.

Bill Condon (Dreamgirls) will direct, Evan Spiliotopoulos will write the script and David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman are also confirmed to be working on the film, set to go into production later this year, and presumable released at some point in 2016.

The original is an absolute classic Theo, you must watch it.

It's a scarily beautiful story so i am excited to see it reworked. The plot itself warrants interest because it's such a famous tale with fascinating characters so it will be interesting to see how they spin it here. Colour me excited~

Excited but annoyed as I thought it was confirmed The Little Mermaid would be the next live action film? They have been working on it since last year or something laugh.gif

Looking forward to this, only because Emma Watson is quite possible the perfect casting choice for the role of Belle! Ryan Gosling being rumoured, just furthers the hype for me too!

This sounds awesome can't wait, especially with Cinderella also coming soon and also loved Maleficent

Yep! Dan Stevens is also a GREAT choice. Really looking forward to this now!

Won't get too excited about this too soon, we've got a two year wait with the release date announced as March 17th 2017. laugh.gif

Was surprised there was no thread for this already!

Love the trailer and the original is one of my favourite films of all time, possibly my most hyped film of 2017! ❤️

Also the cast is incredible!: Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, Josh Gad, Emma Thompson, Audra MacDonald, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Kevin Kline, Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci and Ian McKellen! wub.gif

Really looking forward for this, the original animated version is one of my all time favourite Disney movies and honestly I'm liking all the stuff that's been announced about this so far, like the trailer was very decent and doesn't give too much away and the cast for this is very impressive. Emma Watson is a fantastic actress and has done some really good roles since Harry Potter ended and Dan Stevens playing Beast..YES, love him, such a great actor, really enjoyed him in Downtown Abbey and that excellent thriller 'The Guest', which was one of my personal fave movies of 2014.

Also Emma Thompson as Mrs Potts, talk about perfect casting, Luke Evans as Gaston (that will be very interesting), Ian McKellen, another actor who've I've always admired, along with Ewan Macgregor. Kevin Kline & Stanley Tucci who are all great additions and can't wait too see what they do with the material. Also hopefully this will make Dan Stevens a massive star and start getting more roles.

I've really enjoyed some of Disney's live action remakes through the years, like the recent 'Jungle Book' was fantastic and epic, & 'Cinderella' was very decent and even enjoyed 'Maleficent', and '101 Dalmatians' with Glenn Close. One of the ones I weren't keen on is the Tim Burton's 'Alice In Wonderland', which I found disappointing, especially considering how much I loved the animated version.

New trailer!

It looks absolutely fantastic. Holyyyyyyy!

I'm very excited.

Oooh, love the classic and it'd be the first film I'd've seen with Emma as one of the main characters (Harry Potter aside!)

Posted by: Josh. 20th November 2016, 07:38 PM

Omg, this looks amazing!!! Love how realistic all the servants look and the beast looks pretty great too (although I am missing the teeth from the animated film). Looking forward to seeing Emma Watson in such a big role again, feels too long since the Harry Potter movies </3

The only thing that has me worried is the announcement of new original songs because they're never really very good, especially in comparison to the classics. Speaking of the classics, I hope the renditions of the likes of Be Our Guest and Beauty & the Beast are up there with the originals heart.gif

Getting closer and closer to release date now and I am so hyped, especially after seeing the short clips released of 'Belle' and 'Gaston'. I bet 'Be Our Guest' is going to look phenomenal in this new remake *-*

Here are the clips anyway: (Luke Evans seems hilarious and I love how camp and OTT Josh Gad is too, going to be a lot of fun I hope biggrin.gif)

I wasn't really drawn in by most of the songs and overall I think I preferred 'Cinderella' from a couple of years ago but it was enjoyable enough. Great cast, Emma and the talking furniture were all highlights (any scenes not involving them I was much less interested in) and the ending was quite emotional.

The Prince didn't do much for me, his look was too geared towards Joseph's tastes.

Not going to be one of my movie highlights of the year, but I think a large portion of my excitement to see it was based on all the hype coming from everywhere else.

I thought this was absolutely fantastic! So much better than Cinderella!!! BRING ON MULAN

Posted by: troublepink 18th March 2017, 10:34 AM

I saw this yesterday and i thought it was incredible! One of the best films I've seen, loved everything about it. It was the first film I've seen in IMAX 3D as well.

Posted by: Josh. 18th March 2017, 10:42 PM

I was expecting to love this anyway but it did definitely live up to expectations, probably my second favourite live-action Disney remake (behind the Jungle Book but that was a massive improvement on the original and the effects were phenomenal) and also probably my favourite film of 2017 to date! It was pretty much an exact copy of the perfect original animated film with a few little changes that dampened it a little (over-the-top LeFou was ridiculous in this, Angela Lansbury >> Emma Thompson (stupid cockney accents ruined the title song...) and the new songs weren't half as good as the old classics (Belle, Beauty and the Beast and Be Our Guest really are some of the best film tracks ever produced!!)). Saying that, Emma Watson was fantastic as Belle, incredibly charismatic and she made the role feel very warm, something I think she's failed to do in any role since Hermione! I also think Ewan McGregor's french accent was a lot of fun and it was just so nice to see such an enchanting tale visualised in a live-action way now too, some of it felt so magical (I loved the golden parts coming to life on her dress heart.gif). Absolutely adored it really and can't wait to see it again!

Roll on the Little Mermaid, Lion King and Mulan remakes!!1

Same for me really, though I possibly enjoyed Cinderella a bit more because I think it translated well. Be Our Guest was the clear highlight for me.

For me it's The Jungle Book > Cinderella/Beauty & The Beast >>>> Alice in Wonderland >>> Maleficent

Posted by: Jonjo 20th March 2017, 10:11 AM

Having only seen the original about 2 times in my life (the first time was only a few years ago!!!) I enjoyed it, I just didn't think it was quite as good as others made out. So going into this, I had a bit of a different frame of mind to everyone else, I think. I thought that the trailers looked impressive and thought it was going to be staying so close to the original, which is what was needed...

I saw this yesterday and I LOVED it! Thought it was very well done and although it's a new film it obviously feels familiar. The added backstory parts weren't particularly needed, but I understood the reasons for including them!

Dan Stevens as The Beast was brilliant! Luke Evans really shone as Gaston too and I just can't get over how perfect the choices and casting for Cogsworth, Lumière and Mrs Potts were! Particularly Ewan as Lumière! wub.gif Emma really sold Belle well, too.

Completely DIED @ Dan's growl. Did not expect that at all.

Posted by: Mack 27th March 2017, 11:33 AM

Is it definitely worth a watch, still deciding whether to watch this or not?

Posted by: 🐶 Jay 16th April 2017, 03:44 AM

Really loved this! wub.gif The animation is one of the first movies I ever saw, and seeing it in live action made me feel oddly emotional. I actually shed a tear when the servants became inanimate, which made me feel so ridiculous as I obviously knew the curse was about to be broken... laugh.gif Emma Watson was perfect in the role. Luke Evans made me realise that I fancy Gaston. x
