"thank u, next" is available now.
http://arianagrande.lnk.to/thankunext
I love it, it’s so good.
It’s sad hearing her sing about Mac though.
“Wish I could say thank you to Malcolm cause he was an angel” MY HEART
Not really a fan of the song, just sounds like an album filler from Sweetner for me
What does this mean for breathin though?
Gorgeous track!!
I really like the idea of this track and it sounds cool, I think it's a grower. Always glad to have more Ari!
This is better than anything on "sweetener". Really strong track.
The title track is lushhh, and means so much to her you can tell. I can't wait for this project, I can totally see why she's moving on from Sweetener as it represents something that she'd probably rather move on from, but she's doing so in such a classy and dignified way <3
'Thank U, Next' is gorgeous Really excited for what's to come!
Thank U, Next is an utter jam, can't wait for this album
I totally ignored the fact that she announced it was the album name! I like the sass of it all.
!!
#1 on US Apple Music (first pop song to go #1 this year!)
#2 on UK Apple Music
I like it doesn’t scream lead single but it’s a good nice track probably one that’ll grow the more I listen.
It kinda sounds like an extension of Knew Better from Dangerous Woman in places.
Super glad how this is going down so far! It feels correct!
Blimey!!!
“Report: @ArianaGrande's "thank u, next" received ~8.18 million Spotify streams on its first day of release (potential single day record among female artists).”
Finally it's #1 on UK iTunes! Smashing!!
Really love this
I'm obsessed. I love it and I'm so glad it's smashing, just like she said in the song.
A bit confused as to how this is doing SO much better than Tears did at first, when that had a huge build up, loads of hype and a brilliant video released the same day. This felt very cute little surprise release with some thrown together artwork and no video. It is slightly confusing to me, regardless of how much I love the song.
Agreed, I felt like it was a cute personal song - kind of like Demi's 'Sober'. I expected it to probably go Top 20, maybe even Top 10 but not to be quite this successful!
Also, though - I think any song that references a famous person's ex explicitly is like catnip to the public.
So she's confirmed the video for Breathin will be released this week, so it feels like she will be pushing both at the same time.
If it really stays this popular they won't have a choice I don't think. I'm sure there have been examples of it happening previously - Work From Home for example was only supposed to be a promo track. Then I think it happened with 'In My Feelings' more recently.
I find it boring, but still better than the majority of Sweetener.
It's growing on every listen There's something special about it, but I can't quite put my finger on it.
Shes creating a really interesting spin on abrelease strategy. It feels like she’ll justbdrop the album whenever
I'm really loving this after a couple of listens (aka after my second listen). It's very chilled out and I think it's what she does best (after the bangers). It almost feels like 'Sweetener' was trying too hard to create this sound with tracks like "R.E.M.", "Sweetener" and "Successful".
She's just released the lyric video and will perform it on Ellen tomorrow so she has a real shot at her first US #1 next week!
Love it
Performance on Ellen can be viewed here:
https://www.ellentube.com/video/world-premiere-ariana-grande-sings-thank-u-next.html
She looked like she was having so much fun! I loved the fall from the chair as well - good on her for continuing rather than asking for them to re-start the filming. I'm not sure what the point of having Taylor and Victoria there was when she could've just had backing dancers but I guess good for her for supporting her friends.
Omg it’s reportedly coming this Friday!!
#1 in Mids!
It is majorly frustrating to think that this is going to #1 over so many way, way superior singles she's missed out with.
THIS IS NOT GOOD.
GOD DAMIT SOCIAL MEDIA :|
I'm here for this being #1
The song is sfg and feels like a real personal moment for her. Maybe not a huge pop moment like NTLTC or emotionally significant like One Last Time but both of those were unfortunate to miss out on #1 to two monster hits. Whereas, there's nothing really big to stop her this time round!
Possible song titles based on the departures board in the "Breathin'" video are "NASA", "Needy", "Imagine" and "Remember".
If it’s out tonight I guess it’ll be midnight US so like 5/6 AM here?
Did anyone see the sun yesterday’s where it said an album was leaked onto Spotify under a different name but was quickly taken down I wonder if it was this album.
She’s said that it’s not coming tonight and that they’re finalising the album
Hopefully by the end of the month?
I’ve just put £10 on this being the Xmas #1, pull through pls
Im so pleased it landed #1!!!
Me too! I've had it in my head all week and can't stop playing it A really deserved hit for her to round off an excellent year - anything else from here on will just be a bonus.
NGL I love this. Yes, she's done better but I find it very reflective and I love the verses.
SO HAPPY!! She really deserves this #1!
She’s unstoppable!!
Yaass so glad she got this #1, I looove it as I've said! It might not be the big pop moment that her other songs have been, but it's really showing her as an artist imo, it's just such an appreciative, reflective, tone that's really really classy and I think it's connecting with a lot of people who appreciate being that mature over an ex, it feels like a real moment because it's come at the exact right time in her career. It's such a powerful combination that it can empower or relate to people, but is so personal and fitting for where she is in her own life.
I'm so excited for this album, I don't really mind waiting because we only just had Sweetener and I won't be *too* greedy but I feel like it's going to be such a new level artistically It doesn't even feel rushed for her to move on, because Sweetener is probably a campaign she doesn't feel she can relate to or be represented by which is fair enough given all that's happen since she made it.
I hope the mods don’t mind but I thought the single deserved it’s own thread given it’s looking to be her biggest hit ever.
I’ve watched this performance so many times. It’s one of my favourite performances of her ever. It is so joyful and also bittersweet and her personality pours out. There’s a moment when she trips and there’s a moment when she starts to cry but it all adds to the performance. Ariana isn’t a dancer but I love the choreo from First Wives Club too, it’s super cute.
I'm going to move the threads over bare with haha
This is such an ear worm. It's not quite to the levels of her pop moments, but my GOD does she pull this sound off when she wants to.
The Ellen performance is incredible for so many reasons, but ultimately it shows her personality off perfectly. Love, love, L O V E that her and her team were like "nah. Keep the trip in" it makes me love her so muh more
It’s mad how big this is right now. Not even One Kiss, God’s Plan or In My Feelings could do over 1m on Spotify!
This is confirmed to debut at #1 in the US, continuing Ariana's streak of every lead single debuting within the top 10, plus she has had two further top 10 debuts with "Bang Bang" and "Focus". Queen!
HER FIRST BBH100 #1!! I'M DECEASED 😭😭😭😭😭
It's really a grower I'm in love with it now
This song really doesn’t deserve to be #1! I’m glad she got number one but this is nowhere near her top five singles! Not even her top 10!
that performance was SUPERSTAR levels. perfectly nailed charisma, the right staging, the right balance of personality and it matched the song completely.
gotta disagree with lee on this one - i think people always equate the feel of a song (it's epicness, it's grandeur etc. with how it should perform) but the charts just reflect the songs the public like most - if everyone resonates with a chill song like 'thank u, next' 'God's Plan' etc. then that's how it is!
i would say ariana was extremely smart to do an easy breezy relationship track. it gives her a chance to get her personality across, whilst giving good twitter meme-ability and relate-ability with her target demographic (the youth who are all hung up on exes... god the amount of stuff on twitter re: this meant the song just sold itself). the fact it's very accessible, not too complex and is polished and hooky means it really COULDN'T fail.
I disagree with this not being as worthy of success compared to her other hits.
It's already amongst her best for me - such a smart spin on the usual break up song and completely effortless. I love it.
Finally ending the Maroon 5 reign, what a legend.
Despite not being initially convinced by this, I've done a U-Turn very quickly on this and it's fast becoming one of my favourite Ariana songs! I think the lyrics and how they relate to most of her demographic and very explicitly Ariana herself is really selling this song. Plus it's super catchy and very memeable!
Maybe a bit cynical but this was very clever move by Ariana/her label to release this song whilst her name is in the headlines and off the back of a disappointing album (despite the top notch singles). But good for her getting all this success after having a very tough last couple of years - I think this year will be looked back on as the time Ariana really hit it big time in her career.
Also just watched that Ellen performance - fallen in love again with the song and Ari! Carrying on despite the couple f-ups and having a laugh with the backup dancers was just fantastic to watch
She deserves it all
I know it's not a massive pop banger with all the grandiose pop production they usually come with but that's why I love it so much. It feels 100% genuine, no need for big beats and catchy synth lines when all you have is Ariana baring her soul. I love her so much more for this.
100% agreed, I can't even really compare it to the likes of One Last Time and Into You, they're all time faves and of course this isn't going to be up there just yet. But it doesn't have to be, as said it's a total different moment and a transition. I don't think she meant for it to be a #1 hit and outchart her "better" pop songs, but it's connected because it's the exact right time in her career for a song like this. That's much more powerful than a big chorus or banging prodction in terms of making an impact.
This has hit 100 million Spotify streams in just 11 days. The fastest song to do so!!
Incredible
It seems like she has been teasing Needy a lot, so I wouldn't be suprised if it was the second single.
Officially #1 in Australia - her 2nd overall (after NTLTC)
thank u, next is also her 20th top 50 hit She’s so far had 19 songs go top 50 in the US for comparison. Australia beginning to love her more than Pink
Fantastic that it has got to #1 although it's not there with 'One Last Time' and 'Into You'.
This song's success has really taken me by surprise. It's NICE but it's not amazing. Really pleased for her and glad to see her having such amazing success - I'm just surprised it's with this song.
This is already Platinum in the US and Ari has confirmed that there will be a music video!
The music video is possibly going to reference both Mean Girls and Legally Blonde, with Jennifer Coolidge making a cameo. Wig *_*
EDIT: OMG Ariana confirmed it's referencing these two and two other movies!
Editedit: I think the third is 13 Going on 30?!
OH and it's #1 for a second week in America and looking at a third week in both the UK and US.
Final movie is Bring It On and Colleen aka Miranda Sings is also starring 😍
Legendary music video incoming
Wow, that is going to be some music video.
The song really gets better everytime I hear it and the video looks promising so far .
Mean Girls and Bring It On are two of my favourite guilty pleasure films. I can’t wait for this video.
Also the photo of Ariana as Regina George
I screamed when I saw this. Best music video of the year incoming *.*
Her videos have been on point this year
This has been such a grower Ari really serving the growers this year for me, what with my 'God is a woman' journey too! At least I liked 'no tears left to cry' straight away eh HYPED for the new music vid from all of these teaser pics on social media - Mean Girls is my favourite film of all time the breathin' vid was simple but effective btw <3 really incredible of her to theme it around her struggles with anxiety. What a woman.
Cannot WAIT for this video, here's me hoping it could take the record for most streamed video in 24Hrs! The success of this track is CRAZY and I'm loving it.
The best video of 2018 is coming!
Actual Aaron Samuels appearing in the Mean Girls section!
Video is going be f*cking epic isn't it?!
I hope she drops it Friday.
Surely with all the teasing it won't be much longer?
She truly wins videos in 2018
No one can compete with her
She posted a Thanksgiving pic of her & Mac saying he’s very missed and someone retweeted it saying “she’s milking this shit bruh”. Rightfully everyone on Twitter went OFF at him and Ari replied saying “I pray you never have to deal with anything like this ever and I’m sending you peace and love.”. Queen
She also tweeted later “Some of the shit I read on here makes me sick to my stomach. It scares me the way some people think and I don’t like this world a lot of the time. If only we could be more compassionate and gentle with one another. That’d be sick.”
“Everything I feel is valid and safe. Everything I do is genuine and honest. There is no right or wrong during this period,”
Halsey: “Ari the world could only dream of being as compassionate and gentle as you. And since ur being, as always, so classy and nice, allow me the honor of telling them to shut the f*** up.”
Third week at #1 in the US confirmed - the joint-longest running #1 of 2018 by a lead female artist (with "Perfect Duet"'s last three weeks at #1 in January)
OMG there's a trailer based on a scene in Mean Girls and it's EVERYTHING:
IT WAS AWESOME
She has executed this so perfectly so far, that trailer was EVERYTHING.
Woah! The effort is top notch!
This is seriously going to be INCREDIBLE!
I am hoping it drops on Friday.
This looks iconic.
I Just hope it's not a total hot mess
Video confirmed to be coming this Friday!
Who confirmed it Jack?
Ariana still hasn't said nothing which seems weird if it is coming tomorrow / midnight tonight (USA time)
She just confirmed it! Lmao at her releasing a behind the scenes video before the actual video 😂
Ohh great!
Can't wait for this!
I've been looking at YouTube waiting. HURRY UP ARIANA.
I don't know the last time I've been so excited for a music video!
8PM UK TIME!!!
Cant wait!
Love the video!!
GAGGED
I hate the Kardashians but Kris was perfect in her role
Video is INCREDIBLE!
VIDEO OF THE f***ING YEAR
HOLY SHIT I’M SCALPEDT
The Jingle Bell Rock part had me in TEARS and then Kris Jenner had me rolling Also that part where Ari is in the quad for Legally Blonde reminded me of the Feeling Myself video
Liz Troye Colleen Jennifer and I could have sworn I saw Jonathan from Queer Eye
Never gifed so quickly in my life
This is a nice enough song (although the swearing puts me off it a bit tbh). I don't like this as much as No Tears Left To Cry so its a bit annoying for me that it this a much bigger hit
-
Omg!! The video is Amazing and Kris was a highlight haha
Might be my favourite music video of all time already.
It's a bit of a mess at time but it's perfect for the song.
Not as good as NTLTC video but it was entertaining
Well, that video's gonna break the internet with all the possible gifs x
I'm not normally into this kind of slow stripped down sound, but I really like this. It's refreshing to hear a big hit song that feels so simple yet authentic with nothing calculated about it, I can kinda understand why it's become her biggest hit as it completely fits her. I like to think the calmness reflects how amazingly she's reacted after all the hounding she's gotten over the last year, have so much respect for her.
It took this video just 33mins to reach 1m likes on YouTube, compared to 12 hours for Look What You Made Me Do!!
I just love everything about this. Iconic.
Predictions for views in 24 hours then?
I’ll go for 53m
I don't think it's quite as good as I expected it to be, had it not been for the hyping up of it all, I probably would be loving it much more. Still a very solid video though.
Amazing video. This, NTLTC & GIAW videos are top 5 videos of the year. She's really on a whole other level atm.
9m views in less than 4 hours!
yep, this is amazing.
13m views now, absolutely crazy.
really cute video. i don't think it's a wow / gamechanging moment but it's glossy, polished, it's cast well and is so meme-able so she hit the nail on the head! good girl ari x
I wasn’t as blown away as I hoped but i think that’s partly because Ari gave away SO much before it came out. The editing is a little shoddy in places and there’s an odd filter in some of it but it’s an undoubtedly great video.
She’s definitely the video queen of 2018.
Infact I’ve never looked forward to videos as much since Gaga between 2009-2011.
19m
This is amazing.
Thank u next, bitch
I get Joe and Jack's posts tbh.
However, I'm actually loving it more the 2nd and 3rd time of watching it. Plus she looks absolutely incredible in it. Just utter joy and fun. Glossy and big budget. Amazing.
Oh and 30 million not even 12 hours in
The video is GOOD but nowhere near as good as I expected, I had such high hopes for it but I do still like it.
Holy crap at these views though, insanity!
37m views, I hope it crosses 50m!
Very good video and I appreciate all of the references but I don't think it suits the song at all.
Insane view count
I really enjoyed the video, very cute with all the references!
I can see this doing close to 60 million in first 24 hours.
Should take the vevo record in the next 2 or so hours which is 43 million in 24 hours by Taylor Swift,
Looking forward to seeing what this will get in 24 hours.
40m views now, this is SO getting 60m
Wouldn't be surprised if she gets fastest to 100M on vevo to be honest.
Huge video and well deserved.
Wouldn't be surprised if she gets fastest to 100M on vevo to be honest.
Huge video and well deserved.
i don’t understand what more you would want from a video like this? genuinely interested.
the time it’s taken from release to shoot to editing.. it’s a miracle this is as good as it is. thirsty bitches made them rush it out so any editing issues are down to the pressures they’ve felt to get it out asap.
So happy for her, she’s completely smashed the 24 hour record with over an hour to go!!
Down to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100
^ she’ll easily be #1 again next week though now the video is out, I reckon another couple of weeks at the top for her too
I agree the over hyping did take some of the excitement away from the video but it will go on to remain as one of the best videos in pop IMO. The song however has finally hit me and is so infectious!!! I love the intro and the catchiness to the basic “thank u next”
I think it's probably the best music video I've seen all year, she really is the master of the music video right now.
I still really don't like the song though.
Not even watched the video and I know that's not going to be funny.
i actually thought it was pretty good
tho any reason to see bit of jeff is valid
It's James Cordon and I assume it uses that Jeff meme so that was two reasons not to watch for me.
Really hope this gets Xmas #1.
It’s really clicked with me now and I think it’s one of her all time best.
It’s a shame that it dropped off #1 for Christmas #1 week, but I’m so happy with how much of a smash this has been for her! I’m excited for what’s to come in 2019.
Ffs, it appears that Pharrell is producing this
She's releasing a 7" vinyl of this with "Imagine" as the B side:
https://shop.arianagrande.com/products/7-vinyl-digital-single
Well that cut scene is epic, I'm sad it was cut but I completely understand, maybe she should release an extended version!
This is Ariana's sole placing in Pitchfork's best singles of the decade - at #48!
It’s definitely grown in my affections.
I was underwhelmed at this at first and I couldn’t see how this was her long awaited first #1 in like 4 years and her first #1 in the states.
I love it now but it’s not the best thing she’s put out no way.
I'm sorry, but to include that over so many of the other singles she's put out? What drugs are they on?
Tbh Pitchfork know f*** all about good pop music.
This has been certified 2x platinum!
Totally deserved! Certified SMASH!!
One year since this girl power top 3:
1- THANK U, NEXT- Ariana Grande (64,452)
2- WOMAN LIKE ME- Little Mix Featuring Nicki Minaj (40,237)
3- SHALLOW- Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper (36,105)
Good times *.*
This continues to be her dominating song in end of decade lists. As high as #7 in Billboard's '100 Best Songs of the 2010s' list
I’m still stunned this didn’t get the Grammy nominations!
Was it because Ariana herself submitted 7 rings or did the GRAMMYs pick that over this?
I honestly felt this had the pop solo performance win in the bag!
Metro have named this as one of the best music videos of the decade!
2 years ago today since her career went stratospheric. <3
2 years wow! Doesn’t at all feel like it.
I’ve never U turned on a single of hers as much as I have this. Initially I was so confused at how this stormed to #1 here, in the US and across the world when none of her sweetener singles managed it and on half a weeks sales too!
I still think all the sweetener singles are better than this but I do now appreciate this. Back when I actually had Facebook the music video of this was being shared by pretty much all my friends too it was a huge pop culture moment and a defining moment of Ariana being the biggest person in the world at that moment releasing what would be a huge viral moment.
Oh.
I really need to warm up to the Olivia song since it seems we will be hearing a lot if it.
But you're right, nice that there isn't any hostility.
Four whole years since this was released
Such an important moment in her career.
I remember the excitement on Twitter when it was released.
Nearly 5 years since this was released and it continues to be her chosen one in terms of acclaim:
This song is probably the most invested i've ever been in a Ari song, It certainly is an established pop classic
It is crazy that this song will be 5 years old in a matter of days!
