BuzzJack Music Forum _ Katy Perry _ Bon Appétit (feat. Migos) • Second Single

It's being rumoured that 'Bon Appetite' will be the second single from KP4. Sounds like another great track based on that snippet! She's really bringing it this era. *.*

I'd release this within the next month tbh. 'Chained To The Rhythm' is still doing well worldwide but beginning to fall (it's down to #43 on UK Spotify due to the drake album).

Posted by: Josh. Mar 20 2017, 08:40 PM

Uh really, I was going to say please tell me that title isn't real (DREADFUL TITLE) but then the clip kind of confirms it and the track itself sounds even worse. CTTR grew a lot but it's still one of her weakest singles for me and this just sounds like a big misfire. I hope it'll be good because she rarely disappoints but the clip doesn't fill me up with a lot of hope nocheer.gif

Posted by: Peenus Fly Trap Mar 20 2017, 08:41 PM

I thought it was Deja Vu?

Thw snippet of Deja sounda good, but her use of 'definition of insane' is that f***in stupid one attributed to Einstein. Um he never said that. And also trying again and again is NOT insane. It can actually be quite healthy - i.e training.

Posted by: Cameron Mar 20 2017, 08:41 PM

this is gonna be a raunchy song *.*

Posted by: Juliano Mar 22 2017, 02:54 PM

This sounds good, I've got a feeling I'm gonna love this track, I think she's just slowly revealing snippets on her social media though, I don't know if it will be a single.

Posted by: slowdown73 Mar 23 2017, 10:55 PM

I'm hoping this will be stronger than chained to the rhythm which isn't a bad song but my least favourite lead single by far.

I'm a bit of an odd hater of IKAG so I can't fully agree but as much as I like it, it is very disappointing considering I far prefer California Gurls and Roar were her past two lead singles, I think this just misses that massively catchy hook although I appreciate that she was going for something else with CTTR.

The clip and title haven't exactly got me hyped though...

Posted by: RobBob Mar 23 2017, 11:24 PM

Yeah, I'm happy for her going for something else with the first single but I must admit I'm hoping for an absolute belter of a Roar kind of chorus with her second single. No issue with Bon Appetite as a title, at least it's not generic and a title has never harmed anything. I raised an eyebrow at Ciao Adios but it's a bonafide bop.

Posted by: Cody Viall Mar 23 2017, 11:26 PM

I'm going to LOVE this era

Posted by: Andrew. Mar 23 2017, 11:41 PM

Everything is pointing to the era being KILLER. All of her albums have been tbh!

That's true! I was eye rolling at that title too but it is a huge jam. Maybe I'm too quick to judge and we will get a real pop smasha like Roar or Teenage Dream. Here's hoping!!!1

I think this album sounds like disco through and through :/

Disco is over.

Remember Heartbreak on Hold, the last experiment with a disco album?? :///

The lead single from the album has been a huge top 10 hit though.

Posted by: Peenus Fly Trap Mar 24 2017, 12:20 AM

A moderate hit tbh that will be outpaced by Ciao Adios...

Posted by: RobBob Mar 24 2017, 01:07 AM

I don't get this comparison at all? Chained To The Rhythm was an instant hit, top 10 from the very first week. Ciao Adios took time to build because it's airplay has only just picked up and it's been reduced to 59p, there's no real comparison because they've both becomes hits at different stages in their time span.

Hearing a few people here and there say this might be featuring Ariana Grande, not entirely sure why.

Definitely here for an Ariana feature! *.* I think having Ari on the second single would really help it therefore giving a good launch to the album.

Wait! Is Ariana Grande confirmed on "Bon Appétit"? ohmy.gif I only thought it was a rumour.

Posted by: danG Apr 25 2017, 09:52 PM

I just hope they don't try to outsing each other like Jessie and Ari in 'Bang Bang'. Otherwise, I'm excited.

Posted by: Tippin Virginia Apr 25 2017, 10:14 PM

Ew at that screech-off, like that Screech ft Screech Russ from Open Our Mouths Too Much band in their screech off!!

But Katy hasn't got a loud voice - it's more of a soft voice, so she won't try to compete.

Yes, as she has a soft voice.

I think their voices will be great together and will compliment each other nicely. In a similar way to the Miley Cyrus/Ariana duet!

SO excited for this now. wub.gif

Posted by: Jonjo Apr 26 2017, 09:07 PM

Why on Earth would they "downgrade" to Migos from Ariana, last minute?! That's so bizarre. Maybe Ariana's camp changed their mind? (I still believe she was meant to feature on 'Touch' by Little Mix, but that info got leaked early too (just like this) :')

Crushed again by the artwork.

I'm sure an Ariana feature would've been a more obvious hit though!

Posted by: jase. Apr 26 2017, 09:45 PM

Well my excitement levels went from 100 to pretty much 0 laugh.gif I'd love to know what actually happened with Ariana because there's no way you "downgrade" from her to Migos laugh.gif I mean, Kanye or Jay-Z, I suppose I'd kinda get it...but MIGOS?!! laugh.gif

Posted by: Cremey Apr 26 2017, 09:49 PM

Was Ari even confirmed? Could've just been a rumour...
Migos are huuuge in the US right now and they're having an amazing year, way more exciting than a Jay-Z feature would be, definitely laugh.gif

Yep I'm with Jase. Really hyped for this and now it's just completely dropped sad.gif

Posted by: Jonjo Apr 26 2017, 10:10 PM

I was excited as anyone for Ariana (Katy has tweeted that it was never true, always a rumour/fake news) but I'm still so excited for new Katy so bring this on, crap artwork or not ~

Posted by: Atonement Apr 27 2017, 06:57 AM

I like the artwork. The preview of the song also sounded good.

I'm just a bit confused about this supposedly woke popstar working together with a group that made a homophobic statement.

Posted by: ~josh~ Apr 27 2017, 07:39 AM

Yeah, it is a shame about the Ariana feature. I like cheesy Katy but everything from the snippet, title, lyrics tease and artwork is just TOO cheesy for me and the Ariana feature was all that had me hyped. Migos are like the least interesting rappers around too, they could've gotten anyone else! Even Fetty Wap or someone laugh.gif

If that's the case then that eases the disappointment a bit (like if she'd replaced Ariana with them then I'd probably have gone bad kink.gif) but still less hyped ngl. The snippet is now deleted but it sounded good from what I remember, so we'll just have to hold out hope~

the preview sounded like full ON summer anthem

expecting a massive tune

Posted by: jjake Apr 28 2017, 01:41 AM

why are bj so full of natural dread for migos? i can't recall a song of theirs

Posted by: jjake Apr 28 2017, 02:08 AM

Posted by: awardinary Apr 28 2017, 06:09 AM

Can't believe I put this at the top of my hype chart!

The worst thing Katy has ever released for sure.

Posted by: #Justice4HeMo Apr 28 2017, 06:13 AM

Official Audio:

Why isn't the entire thing like the last minute of the song? sad.gif It feels sort of incomplete saying all that.

Just as expected, everyone here hates this song, which means the general public will lap this up.

Posted by: Tinasha Apr 28 2017, 06:20 AM

Not as instant as CTTR for sure but the production is great!

To think the initial reaction here is worse than Rise...

Posted by: jjake Apr 28 2017, 06:27 AM

it takes a while to get going doesn't it? 🦃

Posted by: HausofSZA Apr 28 2017, 06:41 AM

It's ok but a bit nothingy. Sort of catchy?

Will give it time but atm I'm not loving it.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn Apr 28 2017, 06:52 AM

f*** me, what is she thinking with this?

Posted by: Cremey Apr 28 2017, 06:54 AM

Really liking this. Nothing amazing on first listen but definitely one I'll be listening to a lot 💃🏼

Posted by: UltraGreenLight Apr 28 2017, 06:54 AM

This is disappointing af sad.gif

Rise is way better than this on 1st listen and I actually think I'll still think that in a few months as well, this doesn't sound like it'll grow at all sad.gif

Posted by: ~josh~ Apr 28 2017, 07:15 AM

Omg this is a mess, takes ages to get going and is hardly catchy, just cringey! Can't believe she went to this after the interesting lyrics on CTTR.

Posted by: mdh Apr 28 2017, 07:35 AM

No idea what to think of this. It's not particularly good, but I wouldn't call it bad either.

#psychicbeaverandbrer

The preview sounded crap. So does the whole song.

If these disco songs are the best shehas to offer rn, then this is truly her artflop.

Didn't even listen to the whole thing, so beige.

Posted by: Klaus Apr 28 2017, 08:00 AM

I WANT MORE WOKE POP.

Its alright, just not something I see myself returning too. Odd that she's gone for two featured rappers for both pre-album releases toooo.

Posted by: Liаm Apr 28 2017, 08:42 AM

The chorus is catchy... It's not bad but it's certainly not a pre-album single to build the campaign :/ I really can't see this being a hit at all, I do love the production though. It sort of feels like it should be random electronic producer ft. Katy Perry & Migos and be a one-off single rather than her own single.

Posted by: l♀tita Apr 28 2017, 09:09 AM

Didn't she literally do an interview last week about being over faceless pop without a 'message?'

Posted by: Andrew♀ Apr 28 2017, 10:13 AM

mellow.gif This is one of her weakest singles ever, how could she follow up the infinite bop CTTR with this? Don't even think Ariana could save it laugh.gif

Posted by: Tinasha Apr 28 2017, 10:26 AM

Can't wait for y'all to catch up and be bopping in a month

Posted by: liamk97 Apr 28 2017, 10:34 AM

I too am a bit undecided. As others have said, the chorus production is very good but it does take a good 2 minutes to get going and it doesn't seem like a solid pre-album release. I could definitely see it growing and becoming a right bop when out in the club, but I'm just so used to Katy Perry delivering instantly catchy songs.

Posted by: J▲hq Apr 28 2017, 10:55 AM

Sounds like the worst thing she's ever pushed as a single quite easily and doesn't sound like a hit. Who gave this the go-ahead?

Posted by: Davidson Apr 28 2017, 11:25 AM

This won't be a hit but I really love it.

Posted by: JosephStyles🐶 Apr 28 2017, 11:38 AM

Surprised by how negative the reaction here seems to be! First listen I was a bit unsure but second listen it's a total bop, not one of her best but very addictive.

Posted by: Davidson Apr 28 2017, 11:43 AM

Yeah, I feel like I am gonna be one of the only ones stanning for this.

I think it's a complete jam. That chorus is so yummy.

Posted by: Jordan Lee Apr 28 2017, 11:45 AM

This is isn't really to my taste sick2.gif But at the same time this album at least sounds a bit different from what she's done before and I can only credit her for that. Definitely think we're gonna get single 3 before the album now though.

I'm here for it too.

It's weird because I remember everyone here loving Rise and me being the only one who disliked it, so it's the opposite situation for me.

I feel like with any artist, when we're used to a certain formula from them, people find it a bit jarring when they release something a bit different to their usual output, I do think people will change their minds somewhat here (unless it flops badly, I know what BJ is like wink.gif )

Posted by: Cremey Apr 28 2017, 12:04 PM

I'm loving it too. So catchy.
Can't wait for the video too, it suits a really fun, colourful California Gurls/This is How We Do style video which Katy always does so well.

Posted by: RobBob Apr 28 2017, 12:47 PM

I don't think it's a wise single choice and it's one of her least instant for me but that aside, this is SO addictive. No matter what style she experiments with, she never ever loses an earworm of a chorus which makes everything she does have such a replayable factor. This is the same, it really delivers as a grower and I love Katy when she's naughtier like this <3

Too much hate sad.gif

Posted by: ~josh~ Apr 28 2017, 12:47 PM

OK maybe I was a little harsh because it is growing and the chorus is fairly catchy. The rap verse is rly forgettable tho and the song does take too long to get into the swing of things, it is a bit of a disappointment after CTTR.

Do we think this genuinely has a shot at being a hit? I think it's going to be a massive flop tbh as it is kinda messy (but then Swalla is currently s huge hit so not that matters laugh.gif) and I'm worried for her chances of a hit single/album following this as we've seen with Gaga how quickly radio can drop you. I know it sounds really pessimistic but I just don't feel confident that it's the huge hit that she could've done with at this stage in the campaign ohmy.gif

It doesn't sound like an obvious hit, I can see it doing similarly to Zayn's Still Got Time.

Posted by: Scene Apr 28 2017, 01:07 PM

Considering her last second single was Unconditionally, Bon Appetit should be hailed as a success. ph34r.gif In all seriousness, I think it's a definite grower, whereas CTTR was mega instant.

It's not very instant, it's just a bit there. It doesn't really go anywhere! A huge disappointment after CTTR sad.gif

Posted by: Atonement Apr 28 2017, 02:33 PM

I agree with the people who say that they like it but that it doesn't really go anywhere and takes a while to get going. I feel like it's missing something. The chorus is nice but could use a more explosive production. The verses are underwhelming.

But I agree that chorus from 2:15>>>>>the rest of track.

oh and just checked itunes positions (I know it's irrelevant these days lol) but seems like it got a very slow start ohmy.gif

Posted by: Tippin Virginia Apr 28 2017, 03:05 PM

She is over tbh. No wonder she is crying. She has realised, like GaGa, she can't put out any ol crap after a long break, have awful styling and pretentiousness and expect to still be huge.

Who'd have thought in 2013 that 3 years later Katy and GaGa would be little more relevant than Britney and Christina, but with GaGa having the Britney hits still!

This is her Art Flop.

QUOTE(~josh~ @ Apr 28 2017, 01:47 PM) *

I was a bit quick to judge tbh, after a few plays I really like this now kink.gif It's nowhere near CTTR and yeah it won't be huge but it's GOOD.

Agreed tbh. It teaches her a valuable lesson about how it is NECESSARY for popstars to stay in the public eye and on the radar of big producers/ ear to the pop ground. Sitting at home baking pies didn't work for Nelly and it didn't work for Katy!

She should do a GaGa and switch NOW and call it a buzztrack.

However, after Rise, CTTR now this, this is probably her best on offer atm!!

If that's the case, do a Rita, scrap it and go back to the studio and keep everyone waiting a little while longer. She is crying as she knows this album is not up to scratch.

Posted by: Joe. May 2 2017, 05:52 PM

She should have booked some promo for the first week, Chained was predicted for 30k in its first week before the Grammys performance which luckily kind of saved its first week and it ended up selling a lot more after that.

Can someone PLEASE ban Michael from this forum (and Gaga's whilst we're at it) PLEASE!? zzz.gif Honestly, I don't mind anyone who hates the song to comment etc.. so it's not about it being a negative opinion, it's just that his posts are so repetitive, boring and just a chore to read and really ruins my enjoyment of coming in here!

Gutted about it's chart performance! I really hope it doesn't get cancelled as a single, coz I can see this growing and becoming a bit of a stable hit in the end. Especially if the video was to be killer, like I'd expect it would be!

Posted by: HausofSZA May 3 2017, 06:37 AM

Can I just say (and I've discussed this with friends irl too) that it is actually so liberating for an artist to "flop" quite badly and then stop caring about charts and success et al. I've learnt it the hard way with Gaga an era ago and with Madonna too I guess (and Prince retrospectively). Once the stigma of them being mega successful goes they are free to experiment, be artists and do WHATEVER THE f*** THEY WANT like the artists I mentioned do/did. It's liberating not only for the artist themselves to get through a shit period and come out of it rejuvenated and free but also for the fans.

This is all hyperbole in Katy's case. It's ONE song, what artist hasn't had a flop single? But SHOULD this spell a period of ""chart flopping"" welcome it and embrace it and let her be free to do whatever she wants and actually ENJOY being a popstar which she seems to not be doing recently sad.gif I'm really rooting for her.

Posted by: Joe. May 3 2017, 01:52 PM

I mean, it's first week is pretty underwhelming, but it's only 5 years old so I do think it's way too early to brandish this an outright flop just yet.

Posted by: Liаm May 3 2017, 02:06 PM

Exactly, it is only one song laugh.gif If you look at huge artists, Cher for example had pretty much a whole flop decade for most of the 80s! And even the likes of Madonna and Prince had flop albums, one song is nothing. Especially when she smashed with Chained To The Rhythm just a few months ago. It's so easy nowadays to just brush this off as a promo single if she wanted to anyway, I know the pop industry is fickle but it's not so bad that this would end her whole career by "only" peaking at like #38.

Posted by: ~josh~ May 3 2017, 03:06 PM

On a side note, it's a shame that the Migos feature is so redundant on this. All of her features are just so unnecessary tbh, the solo version of California Gurls/Chained to the Rhythm/Dark Horse/ET are all better tbh (especially the latter when they cut out the AMAZING middle 8 to insert a Kanye verse...). I can barely remember the last time she did a good collab where both artists actually provide something worthwhile, probably Starstrukk & If We Ever Meet Again for me!

I'd rather him banned from the whole forum tbh :') but his posts in here and the Gaga forum are the worst, definitely.

I'm also hoping this remains a single despite its chart performance. I agree with Bal, it'd be great for them to not be influenced by charts and to just go for it anyway. I think an amazing video would sell it so, so well and I can't imagine a video for this not being ridiculously fun. Her looks at the met gala were 👌🏼 can't wait to see more visuals from this era.

Probably biased because I loved Migos anyway but I do feel like they add to the song! Lots of the criticism for the song in general is that it doesn't go anywhere (which I don't agree with..) but if the feature wasn't there, it'd feel more like that. Offset's verse is my favourite part of the song – that melody along with the change in production is perfect.

Posted by: Tombo May 3 2017, 03:41 PM

Oh please, Kanye is amazing on E.T. That song is nothing without him!

Posted by: JosephStyles🐶 May 3 2017, 04:09 PM

E.T. is so much better solo for me, not here for Kanye's addition at all, same for Migos on this really. I do enjoy Snoop, Juicy J and Skip's contributions to their respective singles though!

Posted by: Andrew. May 3 2017, 04:11 PM

Skip makes CTTR for me! The solo version of Bon Appétit is wayyy better than the released one though, don't know why they didn't just release that tbh. That's not to say the released one is bad, I just don't particularly like Migos's part laugh.gif

Debuts at #40 in the UK Charts! Of course that is dreadfully disappointing but at least it's better than the first mids suggested it could have been. Hoping the A-list spot on the R1 playlist will help it out a bit though...

Posted by: Joe. May 5 2017, 04:30 PM

I just want her to drop the video. It's apparently got some weird stripper in it and will probably be a hot mess. I can see the song rebounding nicely when it's out.

Apparently it's being pulled as a single in America, because it's doing a lot worse there than here.

Very woke to scrap a single you believe in when it flops heart.gif

Posted by: Jonjo May 7 2017, 07:16 PM

Will we still get a video? sad.gif

Posted by: Joe. May 7 2017, 07:21 PM

Who, knows - for the UK's sake I hope we do, as the song is showing signs of doing really well here with a push. I find it a bit annoying that they'd pull the plug simply because it is doing badly initially, and isn't living up to the songs from her imperial phase. All it takes is a good video for a song to catch on sometimes.

Million Reasons by Gaga wasn't doing well at first but Gaga was smart and kept pushing it until it was.

Posted by: JosephStyles🐶 May 7 2017, 07:34 PM

I'm not surprised really, for it to sell less in week 1 in the US than Mariah's I Don't is a REALLY poor result, Chained didn't do badly at all so you can't really justify this. Million Reasons was pushed post-album anyway so it a different scenario really but as much as I'm enjoying the song, its US performance is worrying sad.gif

Posted by: Joe. May 7 2017, 07:39 PM

I'm not saying Bon Appétit isn't doing terribly in America, but I Don't was released with its video the same week, got a premiere on her reality TV show and a performance on Jimmy Kimmel, was the first single from Mariah in quite a while and it debuted at #89 while this is predicted for #69. Katy has thrown this song out and done nothing with it, it's the first time she's done that with a pre-album single. I know Mariah and Katy are meant to be on totally different playing fields, but still.

Posted by: cqmerqn May 7 2017, 07:47 PM

69 is awful!

Posted by: Jonjo May 7 2017, 08:02 PM

It's OK. This is just the 'Bitch Better Have My Money' to 'Chained to the Rhythm's, 'FourFive Seconds' in all honesty.

She just needs to rethink her promotional tactics and learn to move with the times a bit faster. This is nothing but a blip. Every artist gets one.

(Still an utter jam and seriously in my top 5 songs of the year)

Posted by: cqmerqn May 7 2017, 08:04 PM

BBHMM was still a decent sized hit

Posted by: Andrew. May 7 2017, 08:26 PM

BBHMM did a lot better than this!! I do think it can be saved in the UK at least but in America they've probably done the right decision. Opening less than I Don't sad.gif

Posted by: Jonjo May 7 2017, 09:06 PM

Tbh, that is what this era is reminding me of. And I thought BBHMM did so much worse than it actually did haha. I remember people saying Rihanna was "ova!!1!×#1" because BBHMM didn't go top 10/have instant success... off the back of a big hit.

I understand that doesn't explain why they've pulled the plug on this. They really haven't given this a chance at all and that's why I'm annoyed. Haha. So infuriating. Like Joe said, this is the first time she's not promoted the hell out of a pre-album song first week!

If it's scrapped in the US already then she probably won't perform it on SNL in two weeks. Kind of like Gaga not bothering with Perfect Illusion on her SNL slot even though it'd only been out for a few weeks.

Why do all her fans necessarily have to like it or buy it? laugh.gif

Posted by: ~josh~ May 8 2017, 07:59 AM

Quite selfishly, I'm hoping she drops this ASAP and acts like it never happened with a new smash single in a couple of weeks. I know it has chance to grow in the UK but if it's not even going to get a video due to no US release then she may as well just not even bother. I mean she had SIX #1s in the US during the Teenage Dream era and then two #1s with the Prism era which is still good. To go down to a #4 and #69 or whatever with the next is a little embarrassing. She just needs to bring it with the next release and then I think this can be swept under the carpet but I am worried for her career at the moment tbh laugh.gif

Posted by: Joe. May 8 2017, 08:40 AM

Katy is no longer in her imperial phase though, she's not going to get #1s easily ever again. Pretty much every artist gets to this point at some point, and as Haus said on the previous page, I think fans sometimes need to ajust to that reality to be able to enjoy the fact they're releasing music they want to release.

It may have had a much stronger rollout, but #4 for Chained is still fantastic, the pop girls don't get #1s very easily anymore. Gaga and Ariana's era peaks were #4s too. And underwhelming as it is, there's no way Bon Appétit would have peaked in its first week if they continued to push it, especially with Billboards, Carpool Karaoke, SNL, Music video promo planned. A new replacement single, no matter how good it is, isn't going to magically do any better than this, unless she actually pushes it a lot harder than she's done so far with, she isn't the name that she was, she can't drop a single and expect it to sit at #1 automatically anymore.

A lot of this might be true, but a replacement single could do better because this hasn't had a great reaction, we've all surely seen a lot of hate for it online. Promo may help but things really don't bode well right now, and the fact she's not at her imperial phase anymore doesn't excuse that - I don't think anyone expected this to storm to #1, but top 10 on iTunes on day 1 and hanging around the top 40 by the end of the week is what I expected (in the US, it's done the second part in the UK tbf). It really has a long way to go to become a hit and I'm not convinced it's gonna be anything more than a minor hit both sides of the pond, a la Run Up for example.

What's happened to her, she used to release such great gems but since the presidential elections, she doesn't care and even coming across as unlikeable with her comments about Britney's breakdown and that terrible Miley Cyrus haircut and it's even affected her music, who honestly thought that 'Bon Appetite' was a strong single, it's terrible and ranks as one of her worst along with 'Rise', she's just given up.

Not really looking forward to her new album, despite 'CTTR' being quite decent, but even that's nowhere near her best.

The video is surprisingly really good and does make the song a little more tolerable, she looks great at the beginning with long blonde hair, and I really like it's disturbing nature, definitely ranks as one of her most interesting videos to date. Song still SUCKS though. Doubt this will help it's poor chart performance though (may climb a few spots higher in the USA, other than that highly doubt it.

Mmmm I wonder if Hilary Clinton did win the elections , then it would have made a difference and Katy would start caring again and make great tunes again. Maybe in an alternate reality where Hilary did win and Katy pulled her finger out and brought out incredible tunes that would slaughter the competition and eclipsed the success's of 'Teenage Dream' & 'Prism' combined. But nope we have to make do with this.

But I'm not gonna write her off just yet, gonna wait and see what the album's gonna be like first and maybe we might get a pleasant surprise and the next single will be great and put her back on form (maybe). Just wait and see.

Posted by: Jonjo May 21 2017, 10:41 PM

Yeah. That performance really wasn't good tbh. I HATE it when artists practically whisper over the backing track. I'd rather they just full on mimed and performed the shit out of it or gave us actual vocals. Visually it was an ok performance though, I guess.

I far preferred the 'Swish Swish' performance (which I don't get the hate towards? laugh.gif)

Posted by: Cremey May 22 2017, 01:15 PM

Wincing so much at her during Migos' part... 😬
The worst thing is her clearly thinking it's 'oh shit' when it's actually 'Offset'! It's like 'Tinasha' all over again :')

I'm just gonna leave this here.

Apart from the stupid outfit that's the most Katy Pery she's been in ages. Fun performance.

Posted by: Atonement Jun 5 2017, 06:44 PM

lmao the YT comments are so funny. She's being compared to Zack and Cody's mom from The Suite Life laugh.gif That haircut was such a bad idea. She's also trying too hard to be down with Migos while she clearly doesn't know how to move.

Posted by: Willy's Tears Jun 5 2017, 07:09 PM

LMAO at that Sweet Life comment!!

So accurate.

Posted by: *Tim Jun 5 2017, 11:49 PM

I loved that performance laugh.gif
She needs to release the solo version tho, that one flows so much better

Posted by: RobBob Jun 6 2017, 01:44 AM

That performance is SO much better. Everything is very cartoon like and everything Katy Perry is really about as a popstar and I think it shows that she looked comfortable and happy in that environment.

Posted by: Joe. Jun 6 2017, 07:00 AM

As a result of her performance Bon Appétit has been performing better in France than any other country. Still #7 on iTunes there and is higher on Spotfiy than it's been in any other country. (She also did Chained and it's top 3 there but that was already a huge hit there). Goes to show this is the kinda KP people are here for so it's a shame the US hasn't seen a performance like that.

Also, side note, her hair looks a lot better now she's dyed it platinum blonde, so much better, more feminine and suits her face more.

Posted by: Cucumberella Jul 3 2017, 02:43 AM

the Voice France performance of this is PERFECT staging / visual wise! sooo much better

I've written her off.

Let's come back to her in a few years.

You are not even a music fan. Just a huge popularity contest for you. If this was #1 you'd be shitting on the floor stanning and being repetitively pessimistic about anyone not in the #1 it girl spot.

Tragic shit.

I've done a complete 180 on this. blush.gif

Still one of my favourite songs of the year. So many people seem to have done 180s on it but I don't see why the public didn't take to it at all after what was actually a half decent push. I can understand why her campaign is in pieces because people they expecting a smash which is what it deserved.

Posted by: MoistSummerFruit Jul 14 2017, 07:43 PM

I hated it when it first came out, but the beat got me SHOOK when I played it on my bass heavy speaker. I have been blasting it - get it into the consciousness of the hotel I was in and now aroond me barrio. Every little helps!

It needed to be a third, out there single after 2 smashes, or a risky first single to have done well.

Posted by: Mrs. Potts Jul 14 2017, 09:40 PM

As if Meekul has started including Spanish words in his posts !! They were hard enough to understand in the first place :') laugh.gif

I've kinda done a 180 on this too. It wasn't what I was expecting or hoping for when we first got it but it does worm it's way into your head and the video helped me enjoy it more too. I can't say the same for Swish Swish though sad.gif

Posted by: MoistSummerFruit Jul 14 2017, 09:49 PM

Swish Swish is so so bad no.gif

Yeah, a song like this discovered on the album, with more time to get hype from growing on fans released later in the campaign, was the way to go tbh. Only problem was she had nothing to replace i with sad.gif

Posted by: SGrey Jul 17 2017, 02:12 PM

Love a good parody even if this is a bit corny!

Posted by: MoistSummerFruit Jul 17 2017, 02:52 PM

I saw it ages ago and watch it all t teem laugh.gif

This gets so much airplay in Italy! I must have heard it atleast 3 times a day just in the radio in the car or at bars etc. I've really grown to love this song, it's ashame it didn't perform better.

We're looking at less than 15k away from Silver certificatin. Get to streaming girls.

Me too, I love it.

Swish Swish was played more in Spain :/

Posted by: Jonjo Sep 29 2017, 12:10 AM

In the top tier of singles from her for me. Absolutely love it. Gutted that it did so bad, chart wise. But eh what can we do!?

Posted by: Conderella Sep 29 2017, 12:29 AM

I don't quite get what happened.

It WAS a huuge grower. Half of us HAAATED it at first, but I thought radio would still have played it till it clicked.

Posted by: White Mustang Oct 1 2017, 06:20 PM

I think some slight tweaking would have made it a bigger hit. The beat of the final two choruses should have come in earlier, and the rap is too long. It is a huge single and I love it.

This is me all over I’m quite fond of the track now but the timing was a major problem.

Posted by: 365 Apr 27 2019, 10:38 PM

2 years after this flopped was released it has a sudden surge of popularity on YouTube over the past 9 days, really peaking over the past 2 days where it’s become the top 4 most viewed video (was 2nd yesterday).
Which has caused this:

Posted by: Medellíam Apr 27 2019, 10:41 PM

I noticed that too! What's caused this?

I really loved 'Bon Apppetit' and was sad that it marked the beginning of Katy's fall from grace. I always thought that tainted people's thoughts on the song but looking around the forum it seems that it's actually quite the fan fave!

Posted by: 365 Apr 27 2019, 10:52 PM

I remember being in the minority when everyone else was calling it awful at the time. But, fair few people came around in the end. But yes, I agree it was time and place for Katy that didn’t help the song. The first single after “the haircut” too. I don’t think it would ever have ended up being one of her smashes though, it was a little too unique sounding and the rap was too long for the kind of song it was.

Posted by: JüperTrouper Apr 28 2019, 02:23 AM

Bon Appetit is still one of my Katy faves tbh

The video was just a little gross at points although fun (flamethrowering her tongue was just nasty) and the disastrous SNL performance and its memeability made it very uncool very fast unfortunately.

QUOTE
Katy Perry’s history-making streak of 20 consecutive top 40 hits, stretching back all the way to 2008’s “I Kissed A Girl,” came to a screeching halt in 2017 when “Bon Appétit” stalled at number 59 on the Billboard Hot 100. The unforgivable irony is that it’s one of the pop star’s best singles. Featuring Migos and produced by Max Martin & cohorts, “Bon Appétit” is a bouncy, sex-positive banger that deftly blends pop, trap and house elements. It also boasts one of the catchiest choruses in recent memory. So what went wrong?

The not-exactly-subtle lyrics were pilloried by some, but Katy has never shied away from a double entendre. (Exhibit A is “Peacock”). Then there was the faux outrage about the involvement of Migos. The “365” diva was criticized for working with alleged homophobes, but the same energy was nowhere to be seen when other artists hit them up for a feature. In the end, I think it came down to the right song at the wrong time. A campy banger with ’90s house elements didn’t have a place on top 40 radio in 2017, which is the kiss of death for a commercial pop release.

This tragic tale of woe does have a happy ending, however. “Bon Appétit” has already been embraced as a firm fan favorite and is widely acknowledged, at least by the great minds of Stan Twitter, as a cult classic. And then there’s the (incredible) video. Which has taken on a life of its own, amassing close to 700 million views on YouTube. Revisit Katy’s misunderstood and sorely slept-on bop below.

Because it's one of her best songs and people are finally bopping.

Posted by: Algernon Monqueef Aug 9 2019, 06:04 PM

Yes yes that, but WHY now, what started the trend?? People were waaay too late to the party mad.gif

Posted by: Juliano Aug 9 2019, 09:28 PM

For me it's always been her most underrated track, so I'm super glad! Unfair flop really.

Posted by: Cqmerqn Aug 10 2019, 09:41 AM

Great song but I can totally see why it turned the public off her.

100%

They should have tried it out as like a last single of the album so it didn't matter if it flopped a bit. Should have been Chained - swish swish - roulette - bon appetit

cos of the youtube algorithm, it started appearing in a lot of peoples 'recommended' videos.

Posted by: TheJü-Pumpkin Oct 24 2019, 07:52 PM

Was on Katy's youtube earlier & noticed Bon Appetit is now her 7th most viewed video ever - beating I Kissed A Girl, ET, Teenage Dream, California Gurls, Chained to the Rhythm and even Part of Me!

Her only tracks with more views are, in order: Roar, Dark Horse, Firework, Last Friday Night, Hot N Cold, and Wide Awake!

Interestingly (or embarrassingly) enough, Rise is also currently beating IKAG's views!

Sorry to bring up an old topic but this is one of my favourite Katy songs. I was so disappointed with how low this charted. Such a good dance tune.

Posted by: Jordan Lee May 23 2020, 06:26 PM

This is genuinely the worst thing she’s ever done and the live performance of it too was a total career low as well.

Absolutely awful.

On a positive note I do sort of like the video for the song it’s clever laugh.gif but the song itself no no and no!

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn May 27 2020, 10:27 PM

I really hated the song at first, but I've done a complete 180 on it since.

It's rare that happens to such a degree.

Posted by: 365 Sep 21 2020, 09:07 AM

This little cult classic has become Katy's 5th billion viewed video on Youtube!
