How much do you think the prequel to the 'Despicable Me' films will make in it's opening weekends in the UK and overseas in the US?

Some interesting tidbits, you might want to consider...

- A voice cast that boasts: Sandra Bullock; John Hamm; Michael Keaton...
- 'Despicable Me 2' was the biggest grossing animation of 2013 - surprising everyone by beating the Pixar film 'Monster's University' & (for that year) 'Frozen'!
- 'Despicable Me 2' went on to open with £14,819,438 in the UK & $83,517,315 in the US!

Also; this film is solely Minions-based. Whereas the DM films are more about Gru and them helping him take over the world. The minions are the biggest draw to the franchise. Without a doubt. I hesitate to think about the numbers that they get on merchandise!

So what do you predict?

Probably overestimating it, butttt....

UK: £18m-ish
US: $135m-ish

I think I've over, over estimated it for the US, but I really do think it'll be HUGE. It's going to be a monster!

I've gone for the £15m+ option and the $100m-$120m.

Haven't they been taking bookings since April? Like Jonjo says, the minions are the biggest draw of the franchise, they're EVERYWHERE, even on Sky adverts and stuff and kids appear to absolutely love them. I own minion underwear, swim shorts and pyjamas. So yes, I'm excited. laugh.gif

Released today (Friday!).

What are we thinking? Will it beat 'Inside Out''s US opening figures of $92m?

Will smash 'Despicable Me 2''s weekend gross?
