I should be able to start this this evening. Maybe even finish it, we'll see how it goes.
I'm currently adding all the answers from the 24 entries and starting the write-ups, so if anyone else wants to enter last minute, do it now!
I have much hype.
First results coming at 7PM
I hope y'all wear pink
While I finish commentary, here's a reminder of the questions:
1) Name a Pixar feature film.
2) Name a popular genre of mainstream cinema.
3) Name a film that Meryl Streep has been nominated for an Academy Award (Oscar) for.
4) Name a female Disney villain.
5) Name a black and white film.
6) Name (or link me to?) an iconic moment at any Oscars ceremony.
7) Name any film adapted from a DC Comic.
8) Name a Foreign (non-English) language film.
9) Name Steven Spielberg film.
10) Name a quote from mean girls.*
Question 1: Name a Pixar feature film.
|18| Toy Story | (J▲hq, Joe, Spadam, Leonardo, Ultraviolence1989, Mack, Robot, Fgiboy2511 ,Ninjabait, Jay, THEO., Tim, Dobbo, burbe, NellyDoll. S, FROOT, Acidburn, Josh, Haus)
|1| Inside Out| (Chez Wombat, Lindsey ♌)
|1| Finding Nemo |(Jonjo, 『bré』)
|0| Incredibles| (Regina)
With the first question comes the easiest question. The answer here, is, of course, Toy Story. I would have expected a couple more Finding Nemos, but Toy Story was always going to be the winner, here. Well done to everyone who went for Toy Story, you all score a whopping 18 points, the highest earning score of the game!
Well, poo. Toy Story is shit though.
Clearly 'most recent' logic doesn't always work eek
Question 2: Name a popular genre of mainstream cinema.
|9| Comedy | (J▲hq, Mack, Lindsey ♌, Ninjabait, Jay, THEO., Dobbo, FROOT, Acidburn, Josh)
|4| Horror| (Chez Wombat, Robot, Jonjo, NellyDoll. S, Haus)
|3| Action|(Joe, Spadam, Leonardo, 『bré』)
|2| Rom-Com|(Regina, Fgiboy2511, Tim)
|0| Animation| (Ultraviolence1989)
|0| Thriller| (burbe)
Going from quite an easy question with a clear answer, we move onto to something rather vague. I had no idea what would come on top here, as can be seen by my own answer. Comedy reigns supreme here, which isn't a huge surprise. Even the sub-genre 'romantic comedy' picks up 2 points. UV takes a long shot with Animation, sorry hen, that didn't really work out.
Yay! Comedy is my favourite, I didn't really think of action, my second thought probably would've been 'drama' (and how that would've been)
Ugh. I really thought 'Finding Nemo' would put up a bigger fight than that! Especially as it's so loved on here and it WON a rate (I think it did, didn't it?).
What an awful start for me!
TBH, I am not doing well.
There's always time to pull it back, guys. 8 questions to go.
Question 3: Name a film that Meryl Streep has been nominated for an Oscar for..
|12| The Iron Lady | (J▲hq, Joe, Ultraviolence1989, Regina, Mack, Jonjo, 『bré』, Jay, THEO., Dobbo, FROOT, Josh, Haus)
|5|Devil Wears Prada | (Leonardo, Robot, Ninjabait, Tim, burbe, NellyDoll. S)
|1| Into The Woods| (Chez Wombat, Lindsey ♌)
|0| Kramer Vs Kramer | (Acidburn)
|0| The Deer Hunter | (Spadam)
|0| Sophie's Choice | (Fgiboy2511)
I always think it's interesting to flip previous pointless questions and turn them into Family Fortunes questions, which is what I've done with J▲hq's previous round. Meryl's name is synonymous with Oscars, and here, her most recent win picks up the most votes with her performance in The Iron Lady (Booo Thatcher etc.), coming second is the film that pushed Meryl's name into the younger generation's eyeline within pop culture, Devil Wears Prada (Boooo Anna Wintour!) Her most recent nomination Into The Woods (Hurrah! Evil witch) gets Chez and Lindsey a point each. None of Meryl's classics scored any points. Sorry to Spadam, Acidburn and Fgiboy.
I knew Haus and Jonjo would go for horror so yay
Slaying now tbh.
4) Name a female Disney villain.
|6| Ursula (The Little Mermaid) | (Leonardo, Regina, Lindsey ♌, Fgiboy2511, Jay, Tim, Josh)
|6| Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty) | (Joe, Chez Wombat, Jonjo, NellyDoll. S, FROOT, Acidburn, Haus)
|5| Cruella De Vil (101 Dalmatians) | (Spadam, Ultraviolence1989, Mack THEO., Dobbo, burbe)
|0| Wicked Stepmother (Cinderalla) | (J▲hq)
|0| Evil Witch (Snow White) | (bré)
|0| Mother Gothel (tangled) | (Ninjabait)
|0| Edna Mode (Incredibles) |(Robot)
Unless, there was a twist I forgot about, Edna Mode is not a villain. She is half Disney and somewhat female, so at least that part was correct. I was expecting Maleficent to pick up more of a landslide here, but instead she ties with the sea witch Ursula as the joint highest answer, with dog-snatching Cruella trailing closely behind.
Edna Mode OMG
Merly won an OSCAR for The Devil Wears Prada?! I've not seen it enough times but really?!
She never won for The Devil Wears Prada
I so nearly went for comedy as well
Bugger I considered Maleficent. Cate not getting any other recognition
Ahhh that's better!
I was gonna go for Ursula, but thought it'd be better to go for 'Maleficent' as it was the most recent Disney villain film. Sorry to those (and myself!!!) I didn't go for the former, scoring us an extra point!
I thought Malificent would have had a higher amount considering she's the only villain to receive her own main film and it was so recent to!
5) Name a black and white film.
|6| The Artist | (J▲hq, Regina, Lindsey ♌, Jonjo, Fgiboy2511, THEO., FROOT)
|4| Casablanca| (Joe, Chez Wombat, Leonardo, Jay, Haus)
|3| Citizen Kane | (Ultraviolence1989, 『bré』, Ninjabait, Tim)
|0| Frankenweenie | (Spadam)
|0| A Streetcar Named Desire | (Robot)
|0| Gone with the Wind| (Josh)
|0| Journey to the moon | (NellyDoll. S)
|0| Some Like It Hot | (Mack)
|0| Schindler's List | (Dobbo)
|0| It's a Wonderful Life | (burbe)
|0| Psycho | (Acidburn)
The Artist, really? I guess it did win an Oscar recently, but it did not come to mind for me at all. Maybe I'm just bitter because The Artist didn't immediately spring to mind, but I thought there would be a lot more for timeless classics, Casablanca and Citizen Kane!
I went for 'The Artist' because it was so recent and the main buzz around it was for it being black and white.
I went with 'The Artist' as it was the most recent B&W film I could think of and due to the Oscar win too!
I was gonna go for either 'Psycho' or 'It's A Wonderful Life' originally, but SO glad I didn't in the end!
(That gif is hurting my eyes!)
I completely forgot about the artist
The Artist! That never passed my mind :/
I hope this isn't too fast for everyone?
Nope! It's a really good pace.
Catching up, not done too badly so far!
Question 6: Name (or link me to?) an iconic moment at any Oscars ceremony.
|6| Jennifer Lawrence falls | (J▲hq, Jonjo, Jay, Tim, NellyDoll. S, FROOT, Haus)
|5| The Oscar Selfie | (Chez Wombat, Ultraviolence1989, Robot, Lindsey ♌, burbe, Josh)
|1| John Travolta introduces Idina Menzel as 'Adele Dazeem'| (Joe, Leonardo)
|0| Sheena Easton performs | (Spadam)
|0| Oscar streaker | (Mack)
|0| Amy Adams dances with Pharrell | (Regina)
|0| Les Misérables cast medley | (Fgiboy2511)
|0| Neil Patrick Harris' showtune | (Ninjabait)
|0| Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up | (『bré』)
|0| James Franco awkwardness | (THEO.)
|0| Adrian Brody kisses Halle Berry | (Dobbo)
|0| Halle Berry speech | (Acidburn)
This was tied between our eventual tumbling winner and the Oscar selfie until Haus came and broke the tie at the very last minute. What can I say, all Haus' favs like to fall, so it was a given he'd choose this. Some quite floppy answers here, I'm not even sure if Bray's answer has any relevance to the Oscars, I'm guessing no, as he was playing the no-google game. The Oscar streaker should have picked up more votes, as that was a hugely iconic moment before the social-media generation - Sorry Mack. Who knew Spadam was such a big Sheena Easton fan? Her performance of 'For Your Eyes Only' back in 1982 has clearly struck a chord with him.
Was going to go for Sally Field's "You Really Like Me" speech, but then the wickedly talented Adele Dazeem popped into my head.
Ooh good call with the Oscar selfie. Although the only one that came to my mind was the J-Law fall and I was thinking it'd walk away with it tbh!
>>>> tbh
Had a complete mind-blank and had just watch the roast of James Franco hence my point-less answer
Adele Dazeem is a classic though. So much more iconic than J-Law's fall.
Surprised John didn't pick up more points. Jennifer Lawrence came to mind straight away for me but when Adele Dazeem came to me I thought it might have been an error in judgement.
Question 7: Name any film adapted from a DC Comic.
|14| The Dark Knight | (J▲hq, Joe, Chez Wombat, Leonardo, Ultraviolence1989, Robot, Jonjo, 『bré, Ninjabait, THEO., Tim, burbe, NellyDoll. S, FROOT, Haus)
|3| Batman| (Spadam, Fgiboy2511, Dobbo, Acidburn)
|1| Man of Steel| (Regina, Jay)
|0| Batman Begins | (Mack)
|0| Superman | (Lindsey ♌)
|0| The Dark Knight Rises | (Josh)
The entire Nolan Batman trilogy gets a mention here, sadly for Josh and Mack, the only one which scores any points is The Dark Knight, and of course that's the highest score here. A few people simply put 'Superman' and 'Batman', I'm not sure if they were simply naming the superhero themself, but I assigned them 1978 Superman with Christopher Reeve and and Tim Burton's Batman. The latter actually scoring some points.
The next question is a bloodbath, FIFTEEN (out of 24) members score 0 points.
I really hope I wasn't one of them (but I think I might be!). I should've gone for 'Battle Royale' instead though... maybe?
Question 8: Name a Foreign (non-English) language film
|5| Amélie| (Joe, Regina, Jay, Tim, NellyDoll. S, Haus)
|1| Pan's Labyrinth | (J▲hq, FROOT)
|0| Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon | (Chez Wombat)
|0| Asterix 3 | (Spadam)
|0| Amour | (Ultraviolence)
|0| Run Lola Run | (Lindsey ♌)
|0| A Serbian Film | (『bré』)
|0| The Passion of Joan of Arc | (Ninjabait)
|0| Volver | (THEO.)
|0| Enter The Dragon| (Leonardo)
|0| La Vita É Bella | (Dobbo)
|0| Ida | (burbe)
|0 | The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo |(Acidburn)
|0 | il Postino |(Josh)
|0 | The Dreamers |(Mack)
|0 | REC |(Jonjo)
|0| Les Miserables | (Robot) :')
What a mess this was, only a total of 6 points to give out on the entire round. So many films mentioned, some of my favourites too. Volver and Run Lola Run <3. Though I don't LOVE it, I went with Amélie as I feel it has quite a well known and commercial status when it comes to foreign language films, so well done to anyone else who got that one and to Froot and J▲hq who also manage to pick up a point in a very tough round! Robot gives me life on this round, naming Les Misérables, I think there are some moments in French, right?
Oh god, how have I got two pointless movies?
EDIT: I did!, I'm not mad, it was edited.
'Amelie' actually crossed my mind too! FFS.
I just HAD to go with my personal favourite though. '[REC]' is a classic <3
Yay at being a point scorer! Amélie was on my consideration list, I recall watching both that and Pan's Labyrinth in class.
I swear I just didn't see any of these top answers coming :/ Jennifer Lawrence's fall over the Oscar Selfie & The Artist over Casablanca/Citizen Kane, really? Amelie did admittedly come to mind, but that one was quite hard to guess a top answer for!
Yay me.
Question 9: Name Steven Spielberg film.
|9| Jurassic Park | (J▲hq, Chez Wombat, Spadam, Jonjo , Jay, burbe, NellyDoll. S, FROOT, Josh, Haus)
|6 | ET | (Joe, Leonardo, Ultraviolence1989, Mack, Fgiboy2511, Dobbo, Acidburn)
|1| Jaws| (Lindsey ♌, Ninjabait)
|0| Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom| (Regina)
|0| Schindler's List | (THEO.)
|0| Star Wars |(Robot)
|0| Jurassic World |(Tim)
|0| Pudsey: The Movie |(『bré』)
While Regina accidentally names the best Spielberg film rather than the most popular, most of us go for the two most iconic: ET and Jurassic Park. Well done to the prehistoric top scorers, you all get 9 points. None for Theo or Regine who are still correct. Rob, Bray and Timmy...Spielberg did not direct any of those films Star Wars, Jurassic World Or Pudsey: The Movie... :')
Les Miserables And Pudsey
I didn't know he did Jurassic Park
Yay! Jurassic Park, E.T and Jaws are all huge so it was a bit of a toss-up but knew the Jurassic World buzz from this year could play a factor.
Last question...

Question 10: Name a quote from Mean Girls
|4| 'She doesn't even go here!' | (Chez Wombat, Lindsey ♌, Jonjo, THEO., FROOT)
|3| 'Boo, you whore!' | (Joe, Robot, burbe, Josh)
|2| 'Stop trying to make fetch happen, it's not going to happen'.| (Leonardo, Regina, Jay)
|2| 'If You're From Africa...Why are you white?' | (Ultraviolence1989, Tim, Acidburn)
|1| 'That is SO fetch?' | (Dobbo, NellyDoll. S)
|0| 'Raise your hand if you have ever been personally victimized by Regina George' | (Spadam)
|0| 'I'm sorry that people are jealous of me. I can't help it that I'm so popular' | (Mack)
|0| 'Four for you Glen Coco, You go Glen Coco!' | (Ninjabait)
|0| 'I can’t help that I’ve got a heavy flow and a wide-set vagina.' | (Haus)
|0| 'On Wednesdays we wear pink' | (J▲hq)
|0| 'I hope the scummy little bitch gets what she deserves. Anyone in my family did something like that, I'd disown them' |(Bre)
Mean Girls is SO quotable. Gifs, tumblr, Twitter and even Buzzjack are often completely taken over by Mean Girls quotes. So which is the most iconic according to Buzzjack? Well it's 'She doesn't even go here!' 'Boo, you Whore!' is also very close, while Jak, Ninjabait and Haus name three of my favourite quotes which sadly score 0 points . If only I were giving out bonus points... Bray makes up his own quote...I think, which also deserves bonus points for sounding as if it was in Mean Girls. I had to Google it (twice) to double check it wasn't.
And that's that. Scoreboard coming SOON
BRE OMG
"She doesn't even go here" is the only quote I know off the top of my head. I've only seen the film once and I remember it being used in memes and stuff.
Great round Joe. Very nicely paced and the commentary really isn't bad!
Bre
I think I did better this time than last time!
Mean Girls is shit.
