10 ** 01 / Russ - Gun Lean / 10- banger! of course it was too rude for R1 though, shame as I really wanted to see the typical BuzzReactions in the chart thread
11 ** 01 / MJ Cole and Freya Ridings - Waking Up / 11- beautiful!
13 ** 01 / FISHER - Losing It / 13- Choon! amazed that it's actually a UK top 75 hit!

Hi Bré!

Nice to see E-Lo so high, I'm enjoying this Los Unidades project more than I ever enjoyed Coldplay! I prefer Timbuktu but this one is nice as well.

Great to see a song like Losing It get some commercial success, it's a great dance track and hope it can get Top 40 officially!

Giving your #2 a listen now... yeah not my thing kink.gif He's clearly very talented though.

Great chart!

Yes, glad you've finally returned to doing personal charts!

Glad Post Malone and Ava Max are in the top ten, and loving Losing It and Mo Bamba in here too! Interesting that you've got Los Unidades in the top ten though, I thought it was very meh and that's coming from a long time Coldplay fan!

Great chart!

Thanks Sergej! I kept a chart more or less continuously for quite a few years back in the day but have only posted about 3 personal charts in the last few years haha. I will hopefully be aiming to keep it up this time though!

'Wow.' was definitely far more instant than 'Sunflower' for me, I think that would have had a pretty slow ascent up my chart had I been posting it since the song came out whereas 'Wow.' would definitely have entered straight in at #1 (and this would have been its second week).

I was also disappointed at us being deprived of the BuzzJack reaction to 'Gun Lean' - hopefully we'll get one for NSG & Tion Wayne next week magic.gif

I actually didn't even realise Los Unidades had already released their EP oops, not really keeping tabs on this project, I've only just got around to listening to 'E-Lo'! Shall have to listen to the rest at some point. J.I.D is of course one of the many artists I have sent to BJSC that finished near the bottom of your rankings so yeah no surprise there magic.gif xx

I had very low expectations for 'E-Lo' given the pretty muted reception it's got and the fact I didn't really enjoy Coldplay's last EP thing (also as a long time Coldplay fan) but it was pleasantly surprising! Reminds me a fair bit of Disclosure's 'Ultimatum' with the African influences and that was one of my fave songs of last year so ~

'Mo Bamba' would have been a #1 in my chart had I been doing it last year, it's super old to me now but thought I'd better give it a token inclusion for my chart's return anyway laugh.gif same with 'SICKO MODE'.

There won't be quite as many new entries next week don't worry biggrin.gif (although I do already have a list of ~13 new songs that I want to chart next week so it's not gonna be quite as immediately stagnant as I feared).

I have only just listened to 'Joan Of Arc' via Jade's chart this week as well, alongside a bunch of their other album tracks but that one was definitely a big highlight!

~

I see FISHER is a popular one in here magic.gif

My chart survives to a second week *.* and a new #1 already as JPEGMAFIA climbs to the top with a short and aggressive banger, typical of his trademark glitchy sound (even though this one is not actually produced by him x). Donae'O claims the highest new entry at #2, Radio 1 have apparently been trying to make this song a thing for a while but it passed me by until now - glad I finally heard it tho cos issa bop. Produced by Calvin Harris as well, not that it sounds much like it (it just reminds me a lot of Giggs' 'Lock Doh' which Donae'O was also on). The rest of the top 5 is all fresh intake too, with a big climber for Flipp Dinero (a likely future UK hit, reminds me a bit of Fetty Wap lol, definite BuzzJack fave) and then two more new entries. slowthai matches his #4 position on Sound of 2019 with his punk-rap tune, a collab with Mura Masa (although again I wouldn't have guessed that without knowing it) and veterans The Chemical Brothers land in at #5 with their fresh nu banger. My top 5 won't always be 100% hip-hop after all.

All this means Post Malone slides to #6 from the top spot which is making it look really frontloaded but it's not that I've gone off the song at all, just happened to be overtaken by a bunch of others this week. Two other songs enter the top 10, a new entry from the latest random afro-bashment hit from NSG (have found this one a bit more instant than most others of its genre) and MJ Cole & Freya Ridings sneaking in from #11 last week. There are also a further 10 new entries lower down. This high level of turnover probably won't be continuing. x

The third edition of my revived chart also has my third new #1 of the era, how long will this fast turnover continue? ohmy.gif Donae'O was challenging to climb to the top in his second week but has been blocked by a new entry from Sound of 2019 winner Octavian, I had never heard of him prior to being on the shortlist but gave a chance to one of his songs after his surprise win and turns out he is very up my street, with a somewhat leftfield spacey aesthetic that makes him stand out from other British rappers (I've seen lots of YT comments comparing him to Travis Scott which seems to fit well). Don't think he'll be getting much mainstream success but who needs it when you can have #1 on the Bré Forté *.* The top 5 as a whole doesn't have as much turnover as last week with three of the five songs being the same as last week (NSG and Tion Wayne climb from their #9 debut last week to #3).

Only one other song enters the top 10, a big climber from Anderson .Paak with a song I'm coming to like nearly as much as his previous single that featured Kendrick Lamar. It helps that this sound if anything sounds more like a Kendrick song than that one did. x I managed to find another pretty wide selection of new entries, with 9 more lower down the chart, many of which will probably climb next week as I listen to them more. Among them are 2 new songs by everyone's favourite mumble rapper Future, CupcakKe's new banger and a few more classy picks from the likes of Billie Eilish, Lana Del Rey and even Sam Smith (he's winning me back over this era, who'da thunk). Next week will probably see the first BJSC song invasion of this chart era. x

'Options' is one of the better rap hits we've had recently, glad that's taking off in a big way.
good to see 'Leave Me Alone' entering the UK top 40 too
looks like 'Gun Lean' did eventually get 2 R1 chart show plays then, and it should make a big climb this week thanks to the remix!
surprised you're into the new Jax Jones song more than I am too ohmy.gif
and new Sam Smith entering both of our top 40s, what is this alternate universe?
quite like the new Billie Eilish though she's still yet to make anything half as good as 'When the Party's Over'
never heard of your #1 until he won Sound Of, what a random winner. not surprised you're into it tho.

great chart!

Hello Bré!
I never this song from Octavian before, but I've heard that he won BBC Radio 1's Sound of 2019, hopefully he'll be interesting!
I like the debuts for "Hold My Girl" (Made it a single before Ezra actually made this a single) and "Dancing With A Stranger" (The collaboration between Sam & Normani is great).
Great chart!

Great chart!

I've actually quite enjoyed Options from what I've heard! One of the better songs of that genre (whatever you want to call it tongue.gif )

Giving a #1 a listen - not a massive fan but there's definitely worse so I'm not going to slate it.

Giving Like An Animal a listen as well, sounding quite nice! Where did you find this one?

Pretty surprising that Flipp Dinero has got to the top 40 here tbh considering it's still only peaked at #21 in the US so far, hopefully can continue to climb in both though. 'Play' is an easy highlight of Jax's discog for me (second only to 'Breathe'), I hadn't realised how low it was in your chart actually! And I was actually this close to charting Sam's prevous single as well, I'm here for this era being a redemption for him. I don't think 'WHEN I WAS OLDER' is quite overtaking 'when the party's over' as my fave from her yet but it's not far off actually, should be a big climber in my next chart as I charted it based on only one listen last week!

Thanks for the comment! I wanted to chart 'Hold My Girl' before this but it got squeezed out of my new entries the two previous weeks, finally made it in there this time as I got around to watching the music video which has helped it click with me even more <3

I believe it's called afro-bashment magic.gif

'Like An Animal' was the Radio 1 Introducing playlist song last week, I'm trying to keep up with all of the songs R1 playlists this year to not be missing out on some of the stuff they playlist that never makes any mainstream impact - the Introducing songs are normally nothing special but I really liked this one, reminds me a lot of MGMT's first album.

Thanks for the comments, new chart coming later today woo. I'll try and do some more comments on other people's charts as well.

For the third week in a row the previous week's #1 drops out of the top 3, in another very high turnover week - Octavian slips to #4, behind NSG who climb a place to a new peak of #2 plus my two biggest favourites from James Blake's new album 'Assume Form'. The beautiful minimalist closing track 'Lullaby For My Insomniac' goes straight in at #1 while the glitchy retro soul sampling 'Can't Believe The Way We Flow' goes in at #3. Donae'O completes the top 5 dropping three places.

James Blake has a third new entry within the top 10 with another stunner of a track in his ROSALÍA collab 'Barefoot In The Park' (and he has two more new entries in the top 40, it's quite possible more tracks from the album could chart next week and the existing ones might climb) and there are two more new entries in the top 10; my BJSC entry from In The Loop is finally allowed to chart and appears at #6 while another very chill and beautiful track from Laura Misch closes out the top 10 (a discovery from New Music Friday last week which I checked out due to her being related to Tom Misch who had a great song in Nuggets a while back). Another chill offering from Billie Eilish also enters the top 10. Chill is the theme of the week x (although not quite so much for the other new entries lower down, of which there are quite a few again).

For the first time in my chart's comeback, a #1 doesn't drop straight out of the top 3, in fact 'Lullaby For My Insomniac' hangs on for a second week at #1, unprecedented longevity ohmy.gif James' other top 5 entry last week drops down to #8 but he has two other songs climbing into the top 5 to replace it, as I am actually giving in more to my stan goggles for Travis Scott and ROSALÍA with more listens - 'Mile High' shoots up 11 places to complete an all Blake top 2 while 'Barefoot In The Park' climbs four places to #4. Meanwhile 'Chalice' remains strong and stable, back up to #3 in its fourth straight week in the top 5, and Billie Eilish sneaks into the top 5 with 'WHEN I WAS OLDER' (not yet heard her new song but look out for a new entry for that next week if it's anywhere near as good as her other recent output).

Metro Boomin has a second song climbing into the top 10 as '10 Freaky Girls' zooms up to #6, this is a song I was loving when it first came out last year but have a rejuvenated interest in it following its recent music video drop (even though the video itself is nothing special). The highest new entry for the week at #7 is the long-awaited comeback from Vampire Weekend with the lovely 'Harmony Hall', which could potentially climb further next week. NSG and Octavian close out the top 10.

It's yet another week with a bumper batch of new entries (perhaps this will be the case every week x) with 13 more entries lower down. This includes the first batch of BJSC new entries, I'm holding off on charting songs that made the final until after the results to avoid totally spoiling my votes but I've charted the three most undeserved DNQs from The Soft Moon, Ska-P and DJ Maphorisa et al. There's also a couple more James Blake album tracks entering, Bring Me The Horizon's unexpected but welcome foray into electronic music, a banger from Logic, a lovely downtempo instrumental from Bonobo, a trashy bop from SOFI TUKKER and ZHU (thanks New Music Friday again for those last two), a belated entry from Catfish And The Bottlemen who were narrowly cut out the last two weeks, J.I.D and J. Cole having back to back new entries following their Bré Forté smash hit together (the former featuring on Eminem's new labelmate Boogie, not to be confused with A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie) and finally another Radio 1 Introducing playlist discovery from The Orielles. Meanwhile my #1 from just 3 weeks ago drops out entirely oops, it would have had a good few weeks on the chart prior to the start of 2019 which would make its chart run look slightly less terrible but alas it's one I've not listened to so much the last couple of weeks so it falls victim to the fast turnover. x

Do I only get any comments on odd-numbered charts thinking.gif xx

These charts are about as fast moving as mine which is a refreshing change!

Of your new entries over the last few:
Malamente (ROSALIA), Vampire Weekend and potentially Mi Rumba & You Should See Me in a Crown (which hit me after hearing it in the brilliant Runaways) will be landing for me soon, as well as some of the James Blake tracks. Since I track by month brand new ones take a while to land.

A lot of new entries here but none that I particularly enjoy... oops
'7 Rings' from last week is growing for me a bit though, prefer it to 'Thank U, Next'.
Billie Eilish's new one is a lot better than the one in your top 5 so hopefully it enters high here!
