BuzzJack Music Forum _ Movies and Theatre _ Buzzjack Movie Awards 2019: Nomination Presentation

Posted by: FUTURE NOSTALGIA 3rd April 2020, 01:07 AM

buzzjack 2020 movie awards have been fully counted up and tallied and the nominations are ready. I wanna do a presentation cos why not, we got time x

however which presentation option would you prefer:

1) Category Nominations - go through each category and reveal the nominations (see 2016 and 2017 for this e.g.)
2) Film Nominations - go alphabetically through each film nominated and you guess what noms that film has got before I reveal all that films nominations (see probs like 2009 e.g.)

lmk and hype up plz cos you're all stuck in quarantine so you got no excuses for no participation xx

Posted by: Jonjo 3rd April 2020, 10:13 PM

BIGGEST BOX OFFICE SURPRISE

Your nominees are...

Four $1billion blockbusters here + surprise box office smash Hustlers, which one will come out on top ohmy.gif

(I'm surprised Knives Out missed here, it's run in America is INSANE)

Posted by: Jonjo 4th April 2020, 12:05 AM

I can't remember what I voted for but low-key I'd probs say:

01. Aladdin
02. Hustlers
03. Captain Marvel
--
04. Avengers: Endgame
05. Joker

The bottom 2 aren't really "surprises" just that they managed to exceed and go the extra distance, where as the other 3 I didn't expect them to do as well as they all did. Aladdin I definitely didn't think it'd be anywhere near $1billion!

Posted by: FUTURE NOSTALGIA 4th April 2020, 12:08 AM

MOST UNDERRATED

Your nominees are...

omg 7 films that can actually be classified as underrated. one of the off years we got this right *.* and I stan 6 of them so I'm here for this <3

box office disaster up next! what's y'all predicts?

Posted by: FUTURE NOSTALGIA 4th April 2020, 12:14 AM

BIGGEST BOX OFFICE DISASTER

Your nominees are...

lol cats :/ the lego movie 2 was an actual disaster, was expecting that to be massive. and then we have franchises ending on whimpers, franchises that didn't need another entry and will smith vs will smith.

now onto worst film! what's y'all predicts?

Posted by: FUTURE NOSTALGIA 4th April 2020, 12:18 AM

WORST FILM

Your nominees are...

well this line-up is ehhh. The Laundromat 100% deserves to be here. It 2 was so disappointing as well. I LOVED Last Christmas so I am gutted to see that end up here, one of my faves of 2019 sad.gif and Cats and The Hustle are both objectively awful but I can't deny I had a fab time with both films lol. Anyway Cats is gonna sweep and I am ready x

the lego movie 2 and SERENITY robbed here x I'm just gonna guess y'all didn't see Serenity cos that was a f***ing trainwreck.

last up is worst performance and then our first BP nominee!

Posted by: FUTURE NOSTALGIA 4th April 2020, 12:27 AM

WORST PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR

Your nominees are...

and we have MORE Cats domination, whew we stan a nomination leader atm *.* Four utterly diabolical performances, and quite honestly Idris Elba, Jennifer Hudson and Ray Winstone are v. lucky they missed here cos they're as bad as most the ones that made it. (James & Rebel obvs being the worst). Talking of Rebel, she also appears here for The Hustle. I ironically love her in this, her post-credits scene is a HOOT. Anyway I think this is like Rebel's 900th nom in worst actress/performance, she always seems to make it for every film she has laugh.gif Gary Oldman is diabolical in the laundromat and I'm glad he made it here, shame Meryl Latina Streep couldn't join him. And whilst she wasn't anything great, Beyonce's nom here confuses tf out of me ngl.

Once again the cast of Serenity is robbed.

Posted by: FUTURE NOSTALGIA 4th April 2020, 12:29 AM

BEST PIC: NOMINEE #1

Your nominees are...

might as well start with one that was always gonna make it x

What's your predictions for the other nine? (We acc got a perfect 10 from the nom stage for once!)

Posted by: Jonjo 4th April 2020, 10:27 AM

A V E N G E R S

wub.gif

Most underrated is a good line-up. I could do without Escape Room & The Perfection though. I enjoyed ER enough, but the traps were kinda lame/boring. The Perfection, nah. It was ok, I guess. But nothing to write home about. I've not seen 'Greta', although having seen the trailer hundreds of times, I feel like I have. laugh.gif

I still think IT 2 gets a hard time. It wasn't scary, but I thought it was fun. Harsh putting Last Christmas in that category. I've only seen Cats out of the other 3, but I know that the other 2 are universally panned so..

Box Office disaster could have been the line-up for worst film too tbh laugh.gif Although I do have a bit of a soft spot for Phoenix, ngl. I don't know a better Worst Performance list tbh. I kinda get Beyonce's nomination. She was pretty hollow and phoning it in.

Posted by: FUTURE NOSTALGIA 5th April 2020, 05:41 PM

Your nominees are...

we love movie posters x

Posted by: FUTURE NOSTALGIA 5th April 2020, 05:52 PM

BEST VISUAL EFFECTS

Your nominees are...

the Disney category!

I'm shocked TS4 made it here over big-budget blockbusters like Alita, Captain Marvel and Cats, as well as other animations like Frozen 2 ohmy.gif Oscar-nominee The Irishman also misses here! and Ad Astra was robbed

Posted by: FUTURE NOSTALGIA 5th April 2020, 05:59 PM

BEST LOOK & STYLE

Your nominees are...

and another category with 7 nominees!! from the amazing costumes of Little Women and The Favourite to Knives Out and Hollywood's production design, this is a v. strong category.

Posted by: FUTURE NOSTALGIA 5th April 2020, 06:02 PM

BEST PIC: NOMINEE #2

Your nominees are...

a classic *.*

What's your predictions for the other eight? (We acc got a perfect 10 from the nom stage for once!)

Posted by: Jonjo 5th April 2020, 06:18 PM

The set of Child's Play posters are genius.

Also, The Favourite is shit. Amazing performances but everything else.. awful. Soooo overrated.

Posted by: FUTURE NOSTALGIA 7th April 2020, 04:41 PM

the favourite shade sad.gif(

coming up now:
- best movie couple
- best scene
- bp nominee 3
- best hero
- best character

predict away!

Posted by: FUTURE NOSTALGIA 7th April 2020, 04:52 PM

BEST MOVIE COUPLE

Your nominees are...

this is the last year this category is happening because it becomes a bigger mess and changes meaning every year, so enjoy voting in it x

Posted by: FUTURE NOSTALGIA 7th April 2020, 04:53 PM

and lemme do a random post here so we can finally get off page stretching with the next category x

Posted by: Queefin' Time* 7th April 2020, 04:55 PM

FROZEN 2 TO WIN EVERYTHING!!!!!!

Posted by: FUTURE NOSTALGIA 7th April 2020, 04:58 PM

BEST SCENE

Your nominees are...
Avengers - Portals Scene
Hustlers - Ramona's Introduction
Joker - Talk Show Scene towards the end
Knives Out - Final Scene/shot
Midsommar - Cliff Scene
Midsommar - May Queen Scene
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood - Bloodbath Scene (y'all know the one)

I am avoiding pictures for this one cos of potential spoilers!

a pretty strong category! I am HERE for the double Midsommar nods <3 Ramona's iconic introduction pole dancing to Criminal or OUaTiH to win tho!

Show Yourself in Frozen 2, The Hustle's end credits, Booksmart's pool scene, Gabby Gabby's last scene in Toy Story 4, Spahn Ranch and Sharon Tate in the theatre in OUaTiH, Bombalurina in Cats and Ready Or Not's end scene all robbed x

Posted by: Jonjo 7th April 2020, 05:04 PM

All great scenes there! ohmy.gif

Couple is a strong category too!

Posted by: FUTURE NOSTALGIA 7th April 2020, 05:06 PM

BP NOMINEE #3

Your nominees are...

after two scene nominations, it's time to reveal the best horror film of 2019 as you're 3rd BP nominee!

Posted by: FUTURE NOSTALGIA 7th April 2020, 05:23 PM

BEST HERO

Your nominees are...

after 2018's line-up being just superheroes, this year we have a nice mix here! Ofc we have 3 superheroes making it her after Endgame's massive success, I'm shocked Iron Man didn't make it tho and Captain Marvel missing for own film. (other near misses in this category include more superheroes and Joker x). However we have three inspired noms *.* Queen of my heart Elsa makes it for Frozen 2, as well as Toy Story's lead character Woody and Marta from Knives Out is a fab nominee!

Posted by: FUTURE NOSTALGIA 7th April 2020, 05:30 PM

BEST CHARACTER

Your nominees are...

another really strong and inspired line-up! We have two classic avengers, Ramona from hustlers, Jo from Little Women, Dani from Midsommar and Forky from TS4! After Lady Bird's win last year, can another Saoirse Ronan character make it back to back wins ohmy.gif

anyway if anyone but Forky wins this, I'm rioting. The cutest character of 2019, the most iconic character of 2019 and the BEST character of 2019.

Posted by: Jonjo 7th April 2020, 05:49 PM

You also missed "Most annoying character of 2019"!!!

(He can be all them things AND annoying!!!!)

But two solid categories there! YES at those 3 Avengers getting in for Avengers. wub.gif Pretty inspiring choices. Black Widow got paid DUST after not having a funeral or anything in Endgame, so I'm happy to see she made it.

BEST SCI-FI/THRILLER FILM

Your nominees are...

this is a really interesting line-up actually and a nice blend of sci-fi films (Alita, high life, Star Wars) and thrillers (greta, hustlers & knives out). Some really inspired noms! High Life is v. leftfield for Buzzjack and it's nice to see Alita recognised. shocked none of the superhero films made it here.

Posted by: UltraReputation 12th May 2020, 03:11 AM

BEST DRAMA FILM

Your nominees are...

hustlers & knives out repeat their thriller noms here, joined by blockbuster Joker and smaller hits The Farewell, Can You Ever Forgive Me & The Peanut Butter Falcon. The latter two feel really random, I'm surprised they made it over a lot more of the high profile Oscar dramas.

Posted by: UltraReputation 12th May 2020, 03:23 AM

BEST HORROR FILM

Your nominees are...

this was a strong year for horrors and we end up with 7 nominees here! from critically acclaimed Us & Midsommar to netflix hit The Perfection to the strongly reviewed Ready Or Not & Doctor Sleep to fun horror flicks Crawl & Pet Sematary, there's something for all horror film lovers here. (and I stan six of these so I'm here for this lineup! It's a shame,e the iconic Ma or the surprisingly good Escape Room, Zombieland 2 or Child's Play couldn't crack the line-up aha)

Posted by: UltraReputation 12th May 2020, 03:33 AM

BEST COMEDY FILM

Your nominees are...

I love this line-up *.* ofc I am backing Booksmart to win, the best film of 2019. I'm glad Last Christmas managed to pick up a positive nomination here, so underrated. Good Boys was hilarious, Instant Family was cute (but worked better in drama-mode than comedy-mode for me) and The Favourite is lots of fun. Hustlers has some fab comedic moments and was submitted for the comedy categories at the globes so I'm here for it getting another nom. These six dominated most of the mentions for this category this year with this year lacking in many comedy hits. It's a shame Fighting With My Family couldn't get a nom and whilst not surprisingly, it's a shame I was the only voter for Support The Girls, one of the best comedy-drama's and films of the year with an incredible performance from Regina Hall. It's on netflix, y'all should watch x

Posted by: UltraReputation 12th May 2020, 03:36 AM

BP NOMINEE #4

Your nominees are...

already racking up a lot of noms so far, it's no surprise to see the star-studded whodunnit Knives Out as a BP nominee here.

(now y'all catch up and comment before I reveal some more x)

Posted by: Jonjo 12th May 2020, 12:32 PM

Not here for this 'Hustlers' love-fest. Probably the most overrated movie of last year for me. (Good, but overrated)

'High Life' is incredibly inspired and left-field! It's good, but not a fave of mine. Great to see some love for the incredibly heart warming 'Peanut Butter Falcon' wub.gif and great to see 'Knives Out' get so much recognition. Nice to see 'Joker' not get completely snubbed and get some nominations in too (seems to be a bit of online backlash towards it).

Get rid of 'The Perfection' and that horror selection is the strongest it's been in a long time. The comedy line up is hit and miss, but YAY for 'The Good Boys', 'Booksmart' and 'Instant Family' wub.gif

Posted by: UltraReputation 17th May 2020, 01:17 AM

BEST ACTION FILM

Your nominees are...

in exciting category of the year we have superhero film vs superhero film vs superhero film vs superhero film vs jumanji sequel. Can jumanji pull off a surprise win?

(and in shock me mode, I actually like 3 of the superhero films ohmy.gif ). Alita deserved a nom here and I'm kinda surprised Joker missed in place of Jumanji.

Posted by: UltraReputation 17th May 2020, 01:22 AM

BEST VOICE PERFORMANCE: FEMALE

Your nominees are...

and going from superhero to battle of the blockbuster Disney franchises as 3 Frozen voice actresses go up against 2 Toy Story voice actresses. Kristen & Idina return after their previous noms for the first Frozen, and are joined by newcomer to the franchise Evan Rachel Wood. They face off against Toy Story original Annie Potts and newbie Christina Hendricks. And in shock of the year, I'm going against my Frozen queens cos Christina better walk this category, Gabby Gabby is one of my fave characters in ages and her voice acting is perfect for her <3

Poor Joan Cusack missing out on this line up. :/

Posted by: UltraReputation 17th May 2020, 01:28 AM

BEST VOICE PERFORMANCE: MALE

Your nominees are...

And as we head over to voice performance's male counterpart, we see The Lion King join Frozen & Toy Story 4 for a complete Disney domination in these two categories this year. Josh Gad is the sole representation from Frozen 2, I'm surprised Jonathan Groff didn't make the line-up. I'm also surprising no one from the Avengers cracked the line-up but boo hoo. Billy & Seth were by far the best parts of Cash Cow: The Remake so I'm here for them getting noms. And with Frozen 2 three-peating in the female category, Toy Story 4 takes that honour in the main category; with franchise stalwart Tom Hanks scoring a nom alongside newcomers Tony Hale and Keanu Reeves. And none for Tim Allen as Buzz. (I'm surprised at that considering TS4's domination in this category). anyway Tony Hale for forky to sweep plz x

Posted by: UltraReputation 17th May 2020, 01:37 AM

BEST ANIMATED FILM

Your nominees are...

And this year we have six nominations in this category; with the three films that dominated the voice performance categories and 3 basically lone nominees (well Lego got into box office disaster x)

Frozen 2 & Toy Story 4 were obvs nominees here. It's debatable whether the live-action The Lion King is an animation but f*** it idec anymore, as long as it doesn't win I'm fine with it here.

Of the fresh nominees there is: Abominable which was one of the biggest surprises of the year for me, surprisingly warm & the animation was STUNNING, that film deserved better and I'm glad it made it here. Also making it is Oscar nominee I Lost My Body, another fantastic animation that's on Netflix. And then we have that flaming pile of crap somehow making the line-up ugh. At least it didn't pollute the voice categories like the first one & the batman spin-off did, a silver lining. I also forgot it was a 2019 release and not 2018 it feels that old and outdated already kink.gif

I'm kinda surprised at the above 3 all getting in tbh! Laika miss for the gorgeous Missing Link whilst sequels to previous nominees The Secret Life of Pets 2 & Shaun The Sheep 2 missed. I also thought both The Addams Family and Klaus could've sneaked in. And most shockingly, How To Train Your Dragon 3 misses completely after the first two dominated ohmy.gif I'm really surprised at that, esp with it being the closer film & having a good reception from fans of the franchise.

Posted by: UltraReputation 17th May 2020, 01:40 AM

BP NOMINEE #5

Your nominees are...

and after it scored five nominations amongst the animation categories, it comes as no surprise that Frozen 2 makes the best picture line-up. Can it go one step further than its predecessor managed?

Nominees in Best Picture so far:
Avengers: Endgame
Frozen II
Knives Out
Midsommar
The Favourite

5 more to come. What are your predictions??? (and plz someone predict x)

Posted by: UltraReputation 17th May 2020, 01:40 AM

I'm gonna aim to do some in the day tomorrow so hopefully some people will be around to comment live then! (obvs no one would be at this time x)

Posted by: UltraReputation 17th May 2020, 02:11 PM

anyone around hahaha?

Posted by: Jonjo 17th May 2020, 02:27 PM

I am! All pretty predictable choices for these categories. Although I'm surprised 'Lego Movie 2' swindled it's way into "Best Animation"... erm... did the people who nominated that actually WATCH it? laugh.gif

I still NEED to see 'I Lost My Body'. Heard nothing but good things! I might watch it tonight actually.

I Lost My Body is great! hope u enjoy!

Posted by: UltraReputation 17th May 2020, 02:41 PM

BEST SCORE

Your nominees are...

We have 7 nominees this year for Best Score; including Oscar nominees If Beale Street Could Talk, Little Women & Marriage Story, as well as the Oscar winner Joker. Also showing up here is Ad Astra's fabulous score, Frozen II's beautiful instrumentals and The Farewell's memorable score. This is actually such a strong line-up, all 7 of these scores are fab and up there with my favourites of the year <3 I'm kinda shocked Star Wars missed and Midsommar deserved better.

Posted by: UltraReputation 17th May 2020, 02:52 PM

BEST SOUNDTRACK

Your nominees are...

another really strong line-up for the music category this year. We have triple Disney here; with the live-action remakes Aladdin and The Lion King making it. Aladdin's soundtrack was really good with new additions such as the stunning Speechless, and The Lion King's soundtrack contained all the classics and Elton John's new song Never Too Late is a banger (the less said about the #98-OUT flop the better x). Frozen II also makes it here, with bangers such as Into The Unknown & Some Things Never Change and ofc the movie highlight Show Yourself <3 It's not as good a soundtrack as the first one but it's still fab.

Another animated musical makes the line-up in the form of Kelly Clarkson's UGLYDOLLS <3 I haven't seen the film but the soundtrack is SFG so I'm glad it surprisingly made the line-up. Couldn't Get Better, Unbreakable and credits closer Broken & Beautiful are FABULOUS and there's fab contributions to the soundtrack from Why Don't We & Bebe Rexha. Also making it is the fabulous soundtracks for Booksmart & Hustlers. Booksmart has one of the best comedy soundtracks in AGES, so many bangers and songs that fit the film so well (including You Oughta Know, Lizzo's BOP boys and Nobody Speak). Hustlers soundtrack is also fully killer with many fab musical moments in the movie, from J Lo's introduction to Fiona Apple's Criminal, the stripper banger of life Gimme More, Janet Jackson's Control over the credits, Royals and even more <3 Such a well put together soundtrack!

A fab line-up on the whole <3 I'm gutted Wild Rose missed, the soundtrack is fantastic and really deserved a nom here. I'd also be here for Last Christmas making it (so many classic Wham bangers) and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is such a well put together soundtrack with many classics, I wish that it made the line-up. Also surprised the Ariana-led Charlie's Angels and musical biopics Rocketman & Yesterday failed to put up a fight.

Posted by: UltraReputation 17th May 2020, 03:21 PM

BEST SONG

Your nominees are...

Lost In The Woods is horrible but otherwise this is my runaway top 5 songs of the year so wd guys <3 <3

As with 2013, we have Frozen 2 domination here again. The songs are the main-push from the film and UK top 20 hit, Into The Unknown (the only Oscar nominee here), the showstopping Show Yourself which is LIG pt. II and rly should've been pushed and the Kristoff 80's ballad Lost In The Woods, which yeah really doesn't do it for me. Also in this line-up, Taylor gets like her 80th nomination in this category with the stunning & underrated Beautiful Ghosts from Disaster: The Movie. Can she FINALLY get a win here (probably not). And Speechless is a fab addition to Aladdin and Naomi Scott nails it vocally, it def seems like a wildcard contender here.

And finally we have the utterly stunning Glasgow from Wild Rose <3 <3 <3 y'all better listen to this (or even better, watch the film on amazon prime) before voting. Such a stunning song, Jessie Buckley nails it vocally, the lyrics are beautiful and this is an all-timer. This was unfortunately snubbed at the Oscars but I'm glad it managed to make it here <3

This was def on the weaker side of recent years for original songs, with only 11 songs getting a mention!

Posted by: UltraReputation 17th May 2020, 03:22 PM

BP NOMINEE #5

Your nominees are...

and following on from its score nomination (I probs should've saved Frozen 2 for this announcement with its domination of song/soundtrack/score), Joker unsurprisingly gets a BP nomination as it performs really well across the board so far across the nominations.

Nominees in Best Picture so far:
Avengers: Endgame
Frozen II
Joker
Knives Out
Midsommar
The Favourite

4 more to come. What are your predictions???

Posted by: Scene 17th May 2020, 05:05 PM

Joker ftw. wub.gif

Posted by: Jonjo 17th May 2020, 06:36 PM

Ugh. Avengers: Endgame was ROBBED in the score category sad.gif 'A Real Hero' is breathtaking and 'Portals' is spine-tingling and iconic!

Best song is exactly what I expected. Hoping 'Speechless' comes out victorious in that one, but 'Lost In The Woods' is fantastic too! tongue.gif

Booksmart
Hustlers
Little Women
Marriage Story

are my 4 predictions for Best Picture.

Outside chances for 'Farewell' & 'Ad Astra' (which I STILL haven't seen).

Posted by: UltraReputation 29th May 2020, 11:47 PM

hi.gif I forgot again x

attractive actress

BP nominee #8

these coming now as I aim to finish these before May x

Posted by: UltraReputation 29th May 2020, 11:57 PM

MOST ATTRACTIVE ACTRESS

Your nominees are...

and we have 7 nominees this year for most attractive actress *.* from category regulars Margot and Scarlett to newcomers Florence Pugh, we have 7 gorgeous and incredible women here <3 will Margot win this for the 90th time or will one of the other women win here this time round!

(we love high quality images x)

Posted by: Jonjo 29th May 2020, 11:59 PM

They're all very deserving! wub.gif

Posted by: UltraReputation 30th May 2020, 12:04 AM

MOST ATTRACTIVE ACTOR

Your nominees are...

and in the male counterpart we have 6 nominees *.* Henry Golding better win this, a MAN *.* Nick Jonas 'acted' in Jumanji 2 so that's enough of an excuse for buzzjcak to nominate him for a hot award ofc x regular category appears Evans and Gyllenhaal are here, joined by Richard Madden & Tom Holland. Shocked previous winner Timothee Chalamet missed, what a shame xxx Also thought more of the avengers would've cracked this!

Posted by: UltraReputation 30th May 2020, 12:08 AM

PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR

Your nominees are...

I kinda wanna scrap this category ngl. what's y'all thoughts?

anyway five fab performances. we usually have one nominee here that misses the acting line-up categories, will we have one this year ohmy.gif

Posted by: UltraReputation 30th May 2020, 12:15 AM

BEST ENSEMBLE

Your nominees are...

another bumper category with 7 nominees in ensemble!! such a good year for big star ensembles *.* we have films stacked with big name stars from Avengers to Once Upon a Time In Hollywood, films that were heavy ensemble players with loads of characters all getting stuff to do in Hustlers, Knives Out and Little Women, the breakout ensemble of The Farewell and the smaller but fab work of The Favourite ensemble.

Damn I love all of these ensembles bar Avengers, idek how imma choose my fave! Booksmart deserved a nom here and so did Support The Girls sad.gif

Posted by: UltraReputation 30th May 2020, 12:24 AM

BEST NEWCOMER

Your nominees are...

- Ana de Armas (for Knives Out)
- Elsie Fisher (for Eighth Grade)
- Florence Pugh (for Fighting With My Family, Little Women & Midsommar)
- Isabela Merced (for Dora & The Lost City of Gold, Instant Family & Let It Snow)
- Julia Butters (for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood)
- Kaitlyn Dever (for Beautiful Boy & Booksmart)

6 nominees and an all female category for newcomer, we stan *.* will any be able to break into the acting categories this year?

so many fab breakthroughs here *.* we have some actresses that've been around for a while but got some killer roles in 2019 and def seem to be on the way to bigger things, such as Ana De Armas with her breakthrough in Knives Out and Kaitlyn Dever with Booksmart. Florence Pugh went from being very unknown to one of the biggest stars of 2019 after leading 3 massive hits and Isabela Merced also had 3 hits this year in family-friendly flicks. And then we have two child actresses breaking out through Elsie Fisher's lead role in teen-drama Eighth Grade and Julia Butters scene stealing turn in Tarantino's 9th film. I'm shocked Zhao Shuzhen missed here and Jessie Buckley deserved attention too!

I think my pick here is either Dever (my fave performance of the year) or Pugh (WHAT a breakthrough year) but all six are fab *.*

Posted by: UltraReputation 30th May 2020, 12:26 AM

BP NOMINEE #7

Your nominees are...

on the back off an ensemble nom and Awkwafina's nom in performance of the year, The Farewell cracked the BP line-up! A fab and inspired nom that deserved this feat in real life, such a great film with a fantastic script, direction and cast <3

Nominees in Best Picture so far:
Avengers: Endgame
Frozen II
Joker
Knives Out
Midsommar
The Farewell
The Favourite

3 more to come. What are your predictions???

Ooh nice nomination for 'The Farewell' there. Such a lovely film.

YAS at all the Chris Evans representation *.* (also you say "Nick Jonas 'acted' in Jumanji 2" - but I thought he was genuinely brilliant and got Colin Hanks' expressions down to a tea! aha)

All those performances were indeed fab bar J Lo, who was "better than usual by her own standards" and that's all. Oops (but I agree scrap that category). I imagine (judging by your comment) Chris missed out on an acting nomination for it. That Ensemble list is great! Avengers (whether you love the franchise or hate it) was stellar!

And I approve of all those newcomer noms! I can't choose between Ana or Florence, personally (although I love the rest too)... I'll probs swing my vote to Florence due to Ana appearing in Blade Runner 2049 a few years back laugh.gif

I haven't seen Jumanji 2, I just used it as an excuse that buzzjack would nom Nick in this category even if he had like a 2 min cameo in one film released that year kink.gif and yeah let's scrap that category after this year aha x

I feel like I've known everyone in the newcomer category before 2019 (bar Elsie & Julia) but they all brokethrough for me in 2019 aha! I never saw Blade Runner and this was def Isabela's breakout year. and even though I nominate Florence and Kaitlyn in my acting categories before 2019 (Florence in lead actress for Lady Macbeth in 2017 and Kaitlyn in supporting actress for Short Term 12 in 2013), I hadn't seen either of those performances until last year!

BEST ADAPTATION OF A SOURCE MATERIAL

Your nominees are...

omg a category with just 5 nominees!! ohmy.gif we have comic-book adaptations Captain Marvel and Joker, the disney Aladdin remake, the shining sequel Doctor Sleep and the 78th version of Little Women.

My winner here is either LW or Aladdin, Gerwig's adaptation approached the novel in such a fresh and successful way and Aladdin really made the most of its source material *.* I'm shocked CM made it here over Avengers and Aladdin beat TS4!

BEST SCRIPT

Your nominees are...

and we are back to six nominees for the best script category *.* So glad Booksmart got in here, such a fantastic script that really deserved an Oscar nom (and was so close ugh) <3 the Knives Out script is also SFG and The Farewell & Toy Story 4 are beautiful and delicate scripts. As much as I love hustlers and joker, I'd say the script is amongst both films weaker aspects aha.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood really deserved a nom here, gutted it missed sad.gif also surprised we didn't get more Oscar contenders here (like marriage story, us, the favourite - especially shocked how badly the latter did when this feels like the ideal category for it!) and that Endgame didn't get in as the marvel films usually do rly well here.

BEST DIRECTOR

Your nominees are...

Three clap.gif female clap.gif directions clap.gif wub.gif

7 nominees here again and a great directing category! Olivia Wilde getting in here is a shock and my fave shock, such a well deserved nominee, her direction of Booksmart is SO good and I can't believe its her first film! We also have fab nominees from Lulu Wang, Greta Gerwig, Yorgos Lanthimos and Todd Phillips & the Russos complete the very strong line-up! I'm shocked Tarantino and Johnson missed this, it just seems buzzjack weren't massive on Hollywood but Johnson's miss is shocking considering Knives Out's success so far!

Posted by: UltraReputation 30th May 2020, 05:10 PM

I will do the big 4 acting categories + final two BP noms when ppl are around x

Posted by: Jonjo 31st May 2020, 11:17 AM

No Avengers: Endgame in Adapted Source Material? Lol FLUSH.

Doctor Sleep is probably my fave adapted out of those though! As much as I enjoyed it, I probably wouldn't have put 'Aladdin' in there over Avengers, but it's ok.

---

I'm not surprised to see Avengers miss script. Knives Out to win though! WHAT a script that was!

---

Replace Yorgos for Johnson and that category would be PERFECT. Russos > everyone else for me (lololol obviously). Excited to see how these categories turn out!

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS

Your nominees are...

the first of our acting categories and what a strong line-up!!

This is basically a best of the real life Oscar nominees with the ones that just missed nominations. Jennifer Lopez's triumphant turn in Hustlers deserved a real life Oscar nom but I'm glad she made it here! Florence Pugh was the breakthrough of the big Little Women ensemble with her scene stealing turn as Amy March. Laura Dern won the Oscar for her performance as a divorce lawyer in Marriage Story. Zhao Shuzhen was a wonderful discovery in the wonderful The Farewell. and Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz are delivering turns up their with their career bests in The Favourite.

I love all of these so much apart from Laura, who's good but idg how she got so much praise/swept everything based on that performance aha. J-Lo, Pugh & Stone are my top 3 of the year in this category. Zhao and Rachel just miss my top 5 for the year in this category but I adore them, they would've made it most years this decade but this year is exceptionally strong for best actress!!

The only person who came close to cracking this line-up was Scarlett Johansson in avengers: endgame. Maybe she'll have better luck with lead actress for Black Widow this year? Otherwise this was a very runaway top six. Other actresses mentioned include: Oscar nominee Amy Adams for Vice, BAFTA nominee Margot Robbie for Once Upon a Time In Hollywoox and Oscar winner Regina King for If Beale Street Could Talk, I'm surprised the latter didn't do better here! Billie Lourd deserved better for Booksmart, one of my fave performances of the year and such a scene-stealing turn!

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR

Your nominees are...

the way there's probs an argument for everyone in this category apart from REG to go lead kink.gif (tho personally I'd only push 1 or 2 into lead). and we're getting a first time winner as nobody in this category has won a buzzjack Oscar before!

Whilst supporting actress is a stronger category, this one does feel a bit more inspired!! Ofc with it being Endgame's big send-off, it manages to score two supporting actor noms as Robert Downey Jr's turn as Iron Man and Chris Evans' as Captain America both score nominations for the epic conclusion to this era of the franchise. This is Evans 3rd nominee for CA and Downey Jr's 2nd, with it being 11 years since his last nom for playing iron man! Can either get their first win? I'm surprised Richard E. Grant's acclaimed performance in Can You Ever Forgive Me got nominated despite him likely being the runner-up in the real life Oscars. A v. good turn. Oscar winner in this category in 2019, Mahershala Ali, also scores a nomination for his turn in Green Book, this is his first nomination at the buzzjack oscars! My fave thing here though by miles is Honey Boy overperforming out of nowhere and pulling off double supporting actor noms <3 Noah Jupe and Shia LaBeouf are both so f***ing good in this film and I'm so glad it got some of y'all attention for these noms to happen *.* It's LaBeouf's first nom finally, I would've easily nommed him about 3 times before this and Jupe's 2nd shock nom in a row! And rounding off this category is the most recent real life Oscar winner Brad Pitt for his star turn in Tarantino's 9th film and is probs the frontrunner here <3

I'm completely split between Pitt and LaBeouf for the win, both are my top 2 supporting actor turns of the year heart.gif Jupe is pretty close behind and I like the other 4 but none of them are amazing for me.

This was a pretty close category! I'm surprised Evans made it for Avengers over his scene-stealing turn in Knives Out. Nicholas Hoult continues to be underrated for The Favourite. Oscar nominee Joe Pesci and nearly Oscar nominee Timothee Chalamet (for Beautiful Boy) were also close. And goose got a mention.. x

Florence, Zhao, Emma & Rachel *.*

The other 2 are strong but really overrated!

Posted by: Jonjo 2nd June 2020, 03:49 PM

And all of those are solid supporting actor choices! LOVING the inspired Honey Boy noms! ohmy.gif

Noah Jupe is the Leo DiCapeio of this generation, I guarantee he's gonna be huge!

BEST ACTRESS

Your nominees are...

lol x whilst all the other acting categories we're really competitive for noms and all ended up with 6 or 7 nominees, this category was a done deal from the start with 5 performances WAY ahead of everyone else x

We have a mix of Oscar winners, Oscar nominees, two horror performances; with one being v. close to an Oscar nominee and a Golden Globe winner who was snubbed at the Oscars. such a strong group <3 Scarlett Johansson is fab in Marriage Story and it was fab to see her finally gain traction irl <3 I'm glad she comfortably got in here as I did think she cold've been snubbed! Florence Pugh is fantastic in Midsommar and means she's a double nominee in the acting categories this year <3 Awkwafina is also excellent in The Farewell and looks set to make her a major star over the coming years *.* Olivia Colman is hilarious and heartbreaking in The Favourite and pulled off the shock Oscar win against all odds in real life, one of my fave shock wins in ages! and Lupita Nyong'o is fearless in a fantastic dual-turn in Us and I'm glad she slayed the critics last year. 5 excellent performances <3

Can Scarlett finally get a win on nomination number five?? Will Lupita get win #2 on her 3rd nom? or will one of the first time nominees pull off a win?

My fave here is Florence as she's the only one that makes my personal top 5 aha (though Colman and Awkwafina both make my top 5 any other year this decade and Scarlett/Lupita would most years too). 2019 was such an insane year for excellent actress performances <3

Whilst nobody was ultra close to the top 5, quite a few performances received some attention! Melissa McCarthy's Oscar-nominated turn in Can You Ever Forgive Me unforuntately suffers from being in a stronger category compared to her co-star, Elsie Fisher got some notices for her breakthrough in Eighth Grade, Constance Wu couldn't ride the Hustlers love to a well deserved nom here, Oscar winner Renee Zellweger is surprisingly snubbed here as that performance is buzzjack catnip and I'm also surprised Saoirse Ronan misses once again for Little Women. In terms of performances that we're further away but still got mentioned; Kaitlyn Dever (my winner for the year) and Beanie Feldstein deserved better for Booksmart, both are FANTASTIC and are my top 2 <3 Regina Hall deserves so much more attention for Support The Girls, the film and her performance are outstanding, highly recommend (its on netflix)! I wish Jessie Buckley could've pulled off a shock nod here like she did at BAFTA's but alas I was her only voter for her star turn in Wild Rose <3 a few other names mentioned are more horror performances from Samara Weaving, Aisling Franciosi & Allison Williams and loads more people aha

DiCapeio *.* I agree though, I really feel he's gonna be such a massive star, he's such a good actor *.* same those Honey Boy noms shook me, I love it when we get random bursts of inspiration every couple years in the acting categories <3

BEST ACTOR

Your nominees are...

back to closer races with some clear-cut nominees and some that sneaked in

Christian Bale deserved so much more love than he got for Ford v Ferrari irl! One of his best performances and I'm glad buzzjack recognised this *.* Oscar nominee Viggo Mortensen in Green Book makes it here, he's fine but I'm surprised he got the nom here in all honesty. Knives Out finally cracks an acting category for Daniel Craig's performance as the inspector, I rly thought Evans & De Armas would get noms so I'm glad at least one person from the cast got an individual nom (I just realised Ana got 0 mentions full stop oops). and then we have Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix for Joker who swept everything all season, Oscar nominee Adam Driver for Marriage Story as that film repeats all its real life acting Oscar nominations and Oscar nominee Leonardo DiCaprio for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, one of his best ever performances and really deserved more recognition in terms of wins sad.gif

we have three first time nominees (Mortensen, Craig, Driver) and two previous winners (Bale, who scores his first non-Batman related nom ohmy.gif and 2x winner DiCaprio). However the frontrunner is probs Joaquin Phoenix, who's on his 4th nomination without a win yet!

DiCaprio is easily my winner here. I find this performance so underrated tbh and honestly in his top 3 ever, he is fantastic in this!! Bale is a close runner-up and Phoenix also makes my lineup for the year. Craig/Driver are in my top 10 in this category and Viggo, nah.

This category didn't inspire too many nominees aha. Ewan McGregor for Doctor Sleep and Oscar nominee Antonio Banderas for Pain & Glory were v. close to scoring noms, the former would've been such a shock nominee aha! Eddie Murphy deserved more attention for his fantastic turn in Dolemite Is My Name and I am shocked Taron Egerton didn't get in for Rocketman, that film really hasn't done well at these awards at all. Oscar nominees Jonathan Pryce and Christian Bale also received mentions for The Two Popes and Vice, thank f*** both missed x

BP NOMINEE #8

Your nominees are...

off the back-off nominations in actress and director, Us had enough strength to crack the best picture line-up! I expected Lupita to get nommed but I didn't think the film would! a great film <3

Nominees in Best Picture so far:
Avengers: Endgame
Frozen II
Joker
Knives Out
Midsommar
The Farewell
The Favourite
Us

2 more to come. What are your predictions???

Posted by: UltraReputation 2nd June 2020, 04:20 PM

the two final BP nominees will come later tonight alongside voting opening!

who will be the last two best picture noms, this is the lineup so far:
Avengers: Endgame
Frozen II
Joker
Knives Out
Midsommar
The Farewell
The Favourite
Us

Posted by: Jonjo 2nd June 2020, 08:35 PM

Best actress is so strong. I dunno how I'm gonna pick. 'The Favourite' isn't a "favourite" (hahahehehahaho) of mine, but Olivia's performance was impeccable. But she's up against a Scarlett, Florence & Awkwafina highlight and one of the all time greatest horror performances in Lupita... AAAAHHHHH!

SO happy Daniel Craig made it in for 'Knives Out' wub.gif A great performance by him (I don't rate him usually, but this... wub.gif) DiCaprio is strong, but not my fave of his. Solid-great performances by everyone though... actually pretty tough and I think it's one of the strongest years for that category we've had, right?

'Us' bagging that best film nom *.*

Hustlers & Little Women are my last two predictions for best pic. But I wouldn't be surprised to see 'Booksmart' "surprise" and knock one of them out.

But wait what about 'Toy Story 4'? thinking.gif Hmmmmm

BP NOMINEE #9

Your nominees are...

Jonjo u forgot Buzzjack's fave type of best pic nom, the superhero film that scores only like 2 nominations elsewhere in minor categories but somehow manages to rack up enough support to make best picture!! (at least this did better than Thor: The Dark World and whatever that X-Men film was that got like 0 noms in total apart from best picture). Whilst I wouldn't put this anywhere near BP, it's def one of my fave Marvel films and is so much fun!

Nominees in Best Picture so far:
Avengers: Endgame
Frozen II
Joker
Knives Out
Midsommar
Spider-Man: Far From Home
The Farewell
The Favourite
Us

1 final nom to come!! who's it gonna be?

Posted by: Jonjo 3rd June 2020, 07:55 PM

Oh wow! I definitely didn't expect that one ohmy.gif

It's a fun film though!

BP NOMINEE #10

Your nominees are...

um. okay buzzjack?? this is such a random nom that I kinda like it for its utter randomness?!?! I wasn't massive on the film at all though and it's in my bottom 2 of the line-up oops. I'm just still confused how this managed to easily get into a field of 10?!?!?! I know it has fans but it was a box office bomb that went under the radar

Nominees in Best Picture so far:
Avengers: Endgame
Doctor Sleep
Frozen II
Joker
Knives Out
Midsommar
Spider-Man: Far From Home
The Farewell
The Favourite
Us

yep all my f***ing faves came joint 11th mad.gif cry.gif I've done a bigger post underneath about the race!

Posted by: UltraReputation 3rd June 2020, 11:16 PM

so just missing out in best picture we had: Booksmart, Captain Marvel, Eighth Grade, Greta, Honey Boy, Hustlers, Marriage Story, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Ready Or Not and Toy Story 4

THE WAY SIX OF MY TOP TEN OF THE YEAR ARE THERE FFS?!?!??! cry.gif

Honey Boy and Ready Or Not would've been such inspired noms. I'm surprised Marriage Story and Eighth Grade and especially Greta (!) did as well as they did. Booksmart would've been such an amazing passion nominee but oh well :/ I would've def had Captain Marvel over Farm From Home as my 3rd predicted superhero film in the line-up, that really underperformed. Hollywood rly just wasn't popular on here :// I think my biggest shocks missing are Toy Story 4 and Hustlers?!?! I'm honestly so confused how both missed. Both are in the top 5 for most nominations this year and one is a beloved sequel to a previous BP winner and the other slayed so much

Posted by: UltraReputation 3rd June 2020, 11:19 PM
